  1. Actually you guys, the shifter and rear brake pedal are attached to the foot peg assembly and follow the adjustment of the pegs. The rear pegs are adjustable too! Mom Yam put a lot of thought into making the MK1's the most awesome long distance touring bike EVER:thumbsup: - IMHO of course:stirthepot:!!
  2. Lack of oil bath cooling on Stator - upgrade available, plastic water pump impellar - upgrade available, frame breaking at swing arm - should be reinforced, brakes that seem to speed up the bike when you need em most - upgrade to MK2 forks and then 2 piston calipers, TCI's that get wet - relocate, funky fuse box - upgrade, stock fork springs not much more than ink pen springs that will sack out just from sitting - PROGRESSIVE spring upgrade, headlight improved by holding birthday candle in front of bike, front end wiggle at 40 mph, clutch pack that slips when she hits 4 grand in 4th and 5th gear - Skydoc or Barnett heavy duty springs, temp gauge calibration that will make a newbie think his bike is running hot, speedo's that get dry and will SCARE the living daylights out of ya when it SCREECHES on a beautiful sunny Montana Mountain morning while coasting down hill with the motor shut off and listening to nothing but wind go by and birds singing - keep speedo lubed:big-grin-emoticon: IHMO though,, all bikes are problematic - finding people who will admit to the problems and tell you the truth about em like we will here can be difficult Tuck - that is another thing that makes our club worth a buck a month IMHO
  3. COOL TRADER = GOOD ON YA BROTHER!! ,,,, thousand one, thousand two, thousand three,, Sticky to first could also be saw teething on the clutch, air in clutch system but DEFINITELY could be loose pins or shift mech somewhere.. Hope you are able to get that puppy back on the road Trader - just aint enough of those amazing bikes out there!!!
  4. and I am past 60 now!!!!!!! Makes one wonder who the Slayer was talking to with that comment Looking at the monkey in the mirror Bob:guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2:?
  5. SOUNDS AWESOME TUCK!!! Main reason I asked was those early Twin Cams had problems with the cam chain tensioners (premature wear caused plastic tensioner particles to contaminate/plug the oil pump). Best fix being Andrews gear drive cam's BUT Harley did have a tensioner up grade and oil pump upgrade.. Sounds like you ended up with one that has already been taken care of my friend = THAT IS AWESOME!! All the best in many many miles of smiles on that gorgeous new scoot!! 5th gear burnouts -
  6. Frame VIN stamp and engine ID number:
  7.,, now its my turn YamaGrl !! I stand corrected sister - those anti-dives in the picture on Craigs looked like the electric ones but YOU NAILED it - the bigger pic clearly shows they are MK1's :thumbsup::thumbsup: Bryck, @VanRiver is 100% on the label showing the VIN and all that BUT - it would not be impossible for someone to sneak a sticker from one scoot to another - if it were me I would look under the fairing on the front/right side of the bike - in front of the radiator and look up on the side of the neck. The frame is stamped there with the VIN and this is the one that the authorities are suppose to go by to check for legal stuff and really, you should too.. The engine "VIN" (which is not really a VIN at all - its an id number for the motor but these numbers havent been used as a VIN number for years now and actually never were on the Metric scoots) will be found on the left side of the motor - left as in sitting on the bike = the clutch lever is on the left side) on top of the bevel gear in front of where the drive shaft enters the case area.. That number would help in identifying the year of the actual motor which would also help in knowing whether or not it is subject to problems associated with the MK1's..
  8. It has the lock catch for the MK1 saddlebags and a MK1 rear bumper assembly like the one I just took off Tweeksis but appears to have MK2 forks on it (judging by the fork gators and the anti-dive's. Bryck, if it turns out to be a MK1 (83 to 85) with MK2 forks (which could be from an 87) on it, please be reminded of the 2nd gear, frame and other issue's associated with the MK1's.. I would also triple check the VIN on the neck and make sure it matches the title before paying for it.. Lots going on in that picture - it really does look like someone built one from parts - nothing wrong with that as long as the person who did it knew what they were doing.. If you are not real familiar with these awesome old scoots, I wonder if there might be a VR member near that location that could take a peek and share some inspection insight with you about the scoot.. I would do it for ya but Idaho is a fair distance from Michigan.
  9. WOW ZZZZZZZZZZZ WOW WOW WOW - she's a dandy Tuck!! :clap2::thumbsup: What year is it and how many miles?
  10. :Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday: AMERICA!!!!
  11. Oh mannnn,, you missed it brother!! If you would have made the trip here you could have met a couple of lop eared VR member Varmints from Wisconsin!! Got a short story all about it in progress for sticking in the Water Hole:thumbsup: but here is teaser for ya Raggy!! You missed a Spagetti Dinner and EVERYTHING!!!
  12. Probably got a bug lodged in your ear causing a balancing problem and messing up your alignment = has happened to me more than once (had to have a doctor remove one once).. When your brain alignment/balance gets messed up it usually causes you to pull to the right or left (depending on which ear has the bug in it). Also, the bigger the bug the worse the pulling left or right and the tighter the circle you will ride in.. Judging by the circumference of your ride today - I would say the bug you have lodged in there is either a nat or a mosquito.. I could set up an emergency Puc's MGnEM for this Wednesday over here and you could get a map and make a 318 mile loop from your house to mine and catch me on your way around the loop.. I would be more than happy to remove the bug for you for free with some Needle Nose pliers and, as you already know, all the Hot Dogs you can eat would be provided for the small amount of bug removal recovery you would need.. Make sense Raggy?
  13. Long story shortened by a copy/paste from answering that one before Ron: Back in the late 80's I salvaged my first Venture,, an 84 Blonde Royale (whose side covers can be seen on 1st Gen #5 known as "Tweeks" with close to a million miles on em).. Bought it to take my kids cross country touring (was doing a lot of it on Dual Sports and stuff but needed KID time - grabbed an "estate sale special") to get some one on one with em.. Two oldest were already riding, used to camping (deer woods) and loved the outdoors.. Took my time with em around Michigan on the 84,, starting with the two oldest (7 and 8 year old daughters).. They named that great big beautiful blonde girl "Big Girl", which instantly became B G, which soon became BEEG - crazy world raising kids. Next summer I announced that I was looking for a rider to go out west on a motorcycle trip,, 1st born has always been the timid one, a precious little girl just a little timid,, always liked to let her younger sister "test the waters" before she would bite.. Looked at the 2nd born and teasingly said your too little,, still remember the look on her face http://i.imgur.com/BV4YY.gif We packed up, headed west, my 8 year old, always the brave one of the bunch,, little crazy like her dad, daughter of mine and I. As we cuddled up in a tent under the stars on the rim of the Grand Canyon we got chatting about biker life.. One of the things we talked about was weird biker names we had heard mentioned along the path.. She was really intriqued by those colorful names she had heard.. We decided we needed biker names and talked about "finding" them before the trip was over... One of the weird things that always seems to happen to me when I am touring has to do with cows.. I always manage to find and step in cow manurehttp://www.sovietsteeds.com/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif when we camp - still happens to this very day!! My daughter always laughed at me shaking the stuff off my tennis shoes.. Our kids were never allowed to swear, even "questionable" words like poop or crap were not allowed as youngsters (think thats bad - they were even forced to call adult neighbors by Mr. or Mrs. - addressing an adult by a first name was a no-no around our home).. My daughter had a "lisp" back than,, it was on more than one occasion that she pointed and yelled "dont step in the cow pucky daddy",, somehow I could never miss all of it... As a result, she figured I had earned the name of Cowpuc and it stuck One of the problems we had while crossing AZ headed toward Needles while on that trip was keeping a hat on her little head... I wasnt about to force her to wear her helmet in that heat (+115) but she had really really fine hair that absolutely had to have a cap of some kind.. We finally managed to figure out that one of my caps on backwards with a couple rubber bands poked thru it and wrapped under her chin worked!! I named her "Cappie" - that stuck too.. Other kids all wanted "biker" names but each understood the "biker code" = they had to "earn" their names,, 3 days of touring or more... Now Tip and I have an "Awawhoo" (1st born - woke up out in North Dakota with her singing to the Morning Doves), "Cappie" who you have met, "P-Dog" - son LOVED looking for and playing with Prairie Dogs out in South Dakota, "TOTR" (pronounced Totter), last born LOVES the Tunnel Of Trees up in Northern Michigan = Tunnel Of Trees Rider and TIP,, that Tippy earned her name after the kids were grown,, she stayed home many many times and watched over three little kids while the 4th one was out chasing around the country with ol Puc... She has been, still is and will forever be my "Treasure In Person".. Many years ago my oldest daughter had a shirt made for me for my Birthday.. I only wear it for very special occasions cause it means a lot to me .. She has taken it and added the shoulder patches as my youngest and Tippy earned their names.. You will notice the name "K-Puck" on the back,, a result of a young girl not wanting anyone to think of her pappa as poop.. Later in life she offered to change it but,, aint no way,,, aint no how.....
  14. sorry brother,, no idea,,, ,,,,,, ,,, maybe expand your search into side hack land:witch_brew::witch_brew::witch_brew: FYI - I use "Adhuntr.com" a lot to do a nationwide Craigs search....

    Vmax

ROCK N ROLL :dancefool::dancefool:,, I LOVE your suggestion Kirby - even though I am still over Crud! I think it would be AWESOME to have a V-Max area cause they are AMAZING scoots,, PLUS,, maybe it would be a really good spot for a gathering of the minds on swapping out V-Max parts into our Ventures.. I got a BUNCH of V-max parts I am gonna be selling and whoever ends up with em is gonna need all the help they can get = before, during and after they mount em on their Venture
  16. Sorry Mama,, just had a couple a Cheeseheads leave this morning after picking up a bike, dismantling and picking parts off a couple parts bikes I have outback, eating spagetti and sitting around laughing our insides out for 2 days.. Even had a couple local members stop by to meet them and some neighbors stop by too.. ABSOLUTELY nothing boring about all that so I am a total looser in this thread... In this case though,,, losing is AWESOME
  17. :lightbulb:Hey Bob,, DanL's onto something here!! You guys could skip a couple of those 6 dollar burgers, ride/drive/fly or hitchhike up to Michigan for a Puc's Meet-Greet n Eat Meat = all you can eat FREE 1/4 pound Hot Dogs and never miss a meal to cover your club dues:thumbsup: Glad your hanging round brother!! Maybe you could take the time while your bikeless and write some more of those awesome ride stores about rides of yesterday while your waiting for your next scoot to find its way into your life
  18. Beej,, a bruised or irritated sacrum can be extremely painful for a good while. Like Bongo said, Eleve works better than Ibu IMHO but I found that 500mg of Naproxin a couple times a day worked a little better in my case. IMHO - because you did not mention pain down your legs or in your hips it doesnt sound you have a disc issue at L5/sacrum (I destroyed that disc and ended up in a wheel chair and 5 back surgerys over that one once). Might also try a piece of memory foam on the saddle of your scoot to soften the vibes on that gorgeous HD of yours so you can keep riding.. I spent a period of time having to ride my bike sitting with one cheek of my backside on the saddle because of an issue like yours - hopefully you dont end up having to do something like that to make the Pie Butt 26.2 this year!! Thoughts and Prayers Up that you get feeling better my friend!!! Puc
  19. Capy,, hopefully I am reading your post here correctly - if not and my response is way out in left field - just throw it out.. By Blue dots, I am taking it that you ordered two piston calipers thinking you could do the caliper upgrade that everyone talks about? If so, that upgrade is only doable on a M2 1st Gen - your 84 is a MK1, totally different critter.. To do the caliper upgrade on the 1's you have to swap out the fork sliders so you have the right mounting brackets.. By what you are describing, sounds to me like you were not aware of that? If I am correct on my assumption here and that were my bike, this is what I would do.. I would go back to linked brakes and regain the usage of the front left disc (could go ahead and link up the front pair to work together but this is the simplest way to get cha back to ok brakes). I would run the pistons out on all the calipers at least a full pads worth and clean the pistons really well so they have no stickyness in there movement, you can completely remove the pistons but I have found it not usually necessary.. I would flush the systems and get fresh fluid in em.. Your front brake is spongy because it's got air in it - I would bleed until I had a solid lever/peddle - there are some tricks to it - ask if your having trouble bleeding.. I would clean up the rotors with brake cleaner and put new pads on all the way around. If you have or have had leaky fork seals = ANY fork fluid dripping onto the calipers = the pads are shot and not saveable. My current MK1 came with braided hoses - my first time experiencing them - WOW what a nice feel,, I have a good stopping - one finger front brake now. You might consider consider going that route BUT I personally wouldnt go there until I KNEW I had completely chased out all the bugs on the original system and seen how I liked it at its best. It is possible to come close to that "feel" by plugging off the anti-dives and shedding the hoses that feed em, IMHO.. Sorry I got so long winded, hope something in there helps some how..
  20. Yep,,, right there with Don - some do/some don't.. I am one of those who LOVE the way the 1st Gens sit!! Other than a Santee Softride Chop with an 18 over Springer and a set of 4 bend pullbacks - 1st Gens are the most comfortable long hour scoots I have ever ridden - bar none.. One of the HUGE things I have never cared for about the modern day forward control scoots is that you cant get up on the pegs when ya need to, plus the added variety of being able to move my feet from crash bar mounted pegs to mid pegs to passenger pegs makes it possible to stay in the saddle for sun up till sun down ride days for my beat up old back.. I also LOVE the adjustable bars on the 1st Gens.. I run mine full back and full down so I can lean back and enjoy the ride. Bella, you might try ditching the boards, going back to pegs and playing around with the bar settings - you may find that repositioning the bars will really effect the sitting position your struggling with.. Also, if you havent got a back rest on your scoot, might try sticking a sleeping bag behind you to lean on.. As far as riding up on the passenger seat - oh yea - climb up there - lock the throttle - lean back and enjoy the scenery
  21. Thanks DanL!!! Kinda sorta wanted to make sure I wasn't dealing with that same rascal - anyone who would do that to a friend of mine is,,,,,,, well,,, no friend of mine ... @PSTERLINGJR, I have an extra TCI - PM me or post here if your still in need..
