  1. If at all possible - health wise - Tip and I are planning on riding out and back... Will post up on your thread here if we do Rick - WOULD LOVE TO SAY HOWDY OUT ON YONDER PRAIRIE!!
  2. Hey Greg,,, and WE are glad to have you aboard:thumbsup:!!! Its always a pleasure chatting with and making friends with "new" members - ALWAYS!! Whats its all about around this joint - IMHO.. I personally thank you for your kind words my friend and would like to join you in your thankful spirit (also been helped by this bunch of lop eared varmints many many times over) - this place is really amazing and a fun place to hang out. Probably sounds crazy but, to me, a big part of what makes that so seems to be found somewhere between those that are so willing to help and those that receive that assistance and are openly willing to acknowledge and say "thank you" like you so eloquently did... Thanks for the spirit of a true grateful attitude! Puc
  3. HOKEY SPAMOKEY @stanG :scared::scared: Stang (maybe we should nick name you Sting now that you, THANKFULLY, made it through that ordeal) - just read your bee sting story to Tip and we are both :scared::scared: and so happy/thankful to hear from you brother - THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE!!! Talk about scary stuff my friend ... SOOOOOO GLAD YOUR OK BROTHER!!
  4. Might be thinking of "Chem-Clean",, = GOOD STUFF!! Did an experiment one time using "Chem-Clean", spray carb cleaner from Auto Zone, Sea Foam and Tech Tron injector cleaner. Took a bank of carbs in really nasty shape from an old 750 Honda that had been left setting with the tank about half full and the pet cock on - carbs were NASTY!! Took the bowls off so the internals were exposed - dropped each carb and bowl into a bowl of each product.. Results were: 1. Chem Clean - stuff was CLEAN in 2 hours, even the jets came clean with air pressure 2. spray cleaner worked second best - took over night for shellacing in bowl and on float to come clean with out assist - jets had to be wired to clean even after over night. Another note - this cleaner was some of the old stuff (Yellow and White can) that used to burn like crazy if you got it under your wedding band - this new "dechlorinated" (or what ever they did to the good stuff) is NOT EVEN CLOSE to as good.. 3. Tech Tron almost same as spray cleaner.. 4. Sea Foam.. Gonna be the most hated person on the planet here but gotta say - I left the carb in the Sea Foam there for over a week and it did = NOTHING.. Well,, maybe it did loosen the shellac enough to make it scrapable clean by using my finger nail after 3 or 4 days but it didnt "dissolve" anything.. jets were still plugged solid... I was really surprised because this was with straight up Sea Foam - was expecting a different result but,, thats the way it happened with me... Oh,, for another experiment I left an o-ring in some Chem Clean overnight one time - WOW = WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY COOL!!
  5. I have used a lot of cheap spray foam Oven Cleaner from the Dollar Store thru the years - stuff worked about as good as anything I have found - spray it on - let it set and wipe off the carbon.. Another amazing cleaner that I used a lot of in bike restore for cleaning up hard core long term grease and grime is a product called "Grease Lightening" - that stuff is AMAZING - the only downfall about and warning I will tell you about Grease Lightening is it will stain aluminum pretty quickly if its left on.. I would not be surprised that Grease Lighting would also work well for decarbonization, never used it for that particular purpose - always saved my more expensive "Lightnin" for other projects and robbed the wifes oven cleaner for head work prep/clean up
  6. I think this is like that 100 millionth time this year that I typed something, clicked send and found Bongo's answer slid in right before mine and it being a similar answer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you have Fool sneak in here and install a camera or something Sir Bongo - your starting to scare me here :rotfl:
  7. Never did it but I was always under the impression that it was very doable but you had to swap out the whole rear "subframe" as the mounts are all different.. I was recently told by a friend who was working on his MK2's drive shaft/swing arm assembly that the MK1's assembly is considerably shorter too (like by a couple inches). From that I would surmise that dropping the MK2 bags and subframe would be easier cause you would just have some xtra overhang BUT - if you were going the other way around - putting a MK1 setup on a MK2 - thinking you might run into clearance issues. Another interesting point in all that is - if Mom Yam did extend the wheel base by a couple inches by lengthening the swing arm,, what affect in handling did it have and on and on...
  8. Yaohzy - having bucoo phone line problems - things keeps going gazzzzeeeeaaahhhoooozzziip - got the phone company repair dudes coming but cant be here till 8/2,, will have to make this short and see if I can get it to take!! Missing a LOT of phone calls too - get about a half a ring and it stops.. All started at last HUGE thunderstorm.. Thing even self dialed 911 - came home the other night and neighbors said the Police had been at our place.. Anyway - LOOKING AWESOME THERE RIV!!! Soooo exciting and fun!! That AZZI-MAX is gonna be a real shweeet heart!!
  9. Dear "The Tooch": The staff here at VR searched our archives and finally were able to locate your registered name herein. We noticed you ride a Yamaha Super Tenere - is there a chance that - in your memory - you recently took an extended trip on your motorcycle? The reason you are being asked this question is that "VentureRider.org" was sold to an all Harley group 11 years ago and we are all wondering if you may have time warped on your machine during a recent ride. The reason the site was sold is that Mother Yamaha never did fulfill her obligation to her dedicated Venture riders and 15 years ago one of the members on the original VentureRider site won 8.9 billion dollars in a lottery and purchased all remaining 1st and 2nd Gen Ventures and he with all remaining members of the original site are now living high on the hog (no pun intended) in some remote area - his name was "YamahaDan" or something like that. Due to past and about The Motor Company - we no longer allow anything but Harley's on this site.. We encourage you to remount your Super Ten and redo the ride you recently returned from in the opposite direction which you initially rode the trip - hopefully this will return you to the world that you know and obviously loved. Sincerely Yours Kowmanure
  10. Sup Vaz!! Thanks for the get back!! How far from Riv do you live brother? Is he toward Jerome from your house or other direction? Is that your scoot your standing behind or is that AZZI? GOOD LOOKING MACHINE EITHER WAY!!
  11. GREAT 's RIV!!! I see you guys found a way to distract your lovely bride from the fresh outcropping of "viral matrimonial endangrial partiteous" that is occurring in your garage.. Having a good spirited lop eared fellow Venture owner varmint like Vaz stop by and be found by her listening to your shocks air line and then be seen talking back into it while your bride walks past - YOU TWO VARMINTS ARE BRILLIANT,,, the PERFECT distraction = "Honey,, there's a guy standing in our garage having a conversation with your motorcycle:hihi:" is FAR superior to "WHAT DID YOU DO NOW?:buttkick:" !!! Gotta remember that one Riv and Vaz!!! You two partners in grime are my kinda varmints! PS - wish I coulda been there to supply massively superior supervisional instruction on the motor removal (never did it - have no clue) and supplied you both with ice cream (now THAT I have some experience in) PS/PS - SHARP 79 XL250 in the background - PERFECT emergency escape vehicle if a brother like David doesnt make it over in time!! Guy can have a TON of fun on one of those classics!! "hills n trees n flowers n bee's all lookin like a picture post card,,,, get yourself a Honda,, = from mighty to mini = Honda had it all (cept for a bike that would run with a 1st Gen Venture:guitarist 2:).. Seriously - 560 Chin Shin full knob on the back of that puppy, 2 down on the front sprocket and it WILL climb walls and wheelie like gravity went on vacation Great you two got together - THANKS FOR SHARING WITH US! Puc
  12. :scared:Absolutely GORGEOUS Cabby!!:clap2: Can see by the (which I thank you for!!) that the PO owner did his scoot proud by switchin over to an SnS carb - I have always LOVED the look of the SnS "teardrop" breather too BUT - that carb system is an AWESOME improvement. That EVO big inch motor was/is a sweetheart - one of The Motor Company's greatest moves IMHO (kept em after the cumbersome "AMF" days). They (HD) maintained the awesome sound of the Shovel with that engine but definitely increased the durability therewith. Looks like a nice, well cared for scoot at a really good price with TONS of potential for many miles of pure potato poppin fun - hope the two of you experience just that!! PS - if that were my gorgeous Dresser, the first thing I would do is give her/him a name.. I know it sounds crazy but I can tell ya for a fact - no name & Burnease will be on that ol Harley right from the get go. Give it a name of love and respect and the two of them will be :biker: like two peas in a pod:banana:
  13. AWESOME!!!:thumbsup::clap2::clap2: Another deep insight into why VentureRider.org has become the BEST forum in existence - you ARE da man brother!!
  14. All this brings another question to mind for you two guru's... I was always told that with non-contact point ignition it is really hard on the ignition system to not have the spark plug(s) grounded to allow the coils to discharge a spark across the air gap if you are doing engine work and need to spin the motor over with the ignition on (for doing a compression test ect..).. Is there any truth to this or is it ok to just leave your plug wires hanging empty with no plugs in them and opportunity for the coils to discharge? Any of that make sense??? After reading all the stuff about Snyp's situation,, I cant help but wonder if it's a coil problem OR, maybe a bad connection at the 12 volt input into the coil's,,,, Snyp,,, can you take an ohm meter - stick it on DC Volts and check the leads going to your coils - maybe your just dealing with a corroded connector somewhere...
  15. That VideoAz cut the line Riv - my "",,,, :You_Rock_Emoticon:RIV!!!"" is suppose to be pointing at your post about Jay's Festiva and not at Vaz's post about ticulating scooters (although I do find his post about ticulating scooters interesting,, maybe cause I am getting a little more mature like David ).. I think we need a line cutting little icon thingy around here to match our icon thingy.. Did I ever tell you guys I love those little icony things - just having access to those is worth every dime of our club dues,,,, ,, ,,, and - as the saying goes = getting to and with them around here is PRICELESS
  16. :sign yeah that:,,,, :You_Rock_Emoticon:RIV!!! thats the one Riv = wayyyyy cool!!! Should have known Mom Yam would have had her fingers in there somewhere - she seems to be involved in ALL the cool stuff .. Those were such fun little cars, even with the little stock motor. One of my daughters who is out in Sacramento - drove one of mine back and forth to College (about a 1 hour drive from our home) years ago. She also worked for Hospice at the time and would spend her "off school" hours doing in home care for them. She put over 60k miles trouble free (other than brakes - they put brake pads on em about the size of a MK1 1st Gen) on that little car in less than a year chasing around in it - AMAZING little vehicles. Below is a shot of her little go getter on its way to the scrap yard with a total of 290k miles.. Ohhhh the memories:missingtooth:.. ,, did it again Riv - ... Got all excited and my fingers took off like a V-Max modded Azzi ..
  17. OUCH - that sounds like NO FUN Jamsie!! Thoughts and Prayers Up headed your way!
  18. Yea,, I always liked that Jay Leno feller,,, seems like one of us only with a WHOLE LOT OF MONEY TO PLAY WITH Years ago I drove Ford Festiva's - always had a blast with the little buggers.. Even had em for go carts for the kids - lots of fun.. I always said if I had the time and money I would like to turbo one out or stick a big motor in one just for kicks.. Seems like that thought had no sooner crossed my mind than Leno was showing off his "garage" one day on TV and there sat a Festiva with a big motor stuffed in it - he actually mentioned that it was one of his funnest cars.. GREAT video Riv - THANKS FOR SHARING!!
  19. Hearing ya loud and clear Randy - was like living in a terrarium here Saturday with major heat and humidity for our Hot Dog Party - then it rained buckets last night and cooled off some - then it was still raining a little around noon yesterday but below 85 - then another Southern warm front came in from the West later today carrying more mugginess that it somehow found on while visiting the South - now its back to being a warm sticky night that actually feels warmer than it was at noon... Funky weathers got me all, as Yammer would say, cornfused
  20. Probably sound simplistic but most, if not all, of the back firing and exhaust popping I have experienced with the MK1's have been leaky exhaust gasket/cracks in collectors/rusty pin holes in muffs and stuff like that. Any spot that will allow air into the exhaust system so unburned fuel can ignite has the potential for causing issues of popping/backfiring IMHO.. I mentioned that crazy sounding idea to another member (think it was @T.J.) a while back as he was having similar issues with one of his scoots.. After playing around with the nausance for a while he tried regasketing his exhaust system and, if I recall correctly - it worked (even a Puc gets one right once in while ). Might be worth a quick check for air leaks in the exhaust system.. As far as cracked - disconnected or pin holed slide diaphrams,, I have had my fair share of those puppys happen and, again IMHO, those problems have usually shown up in lack of performance (the go grip loosing some of its go) and not usually associated with exhaust cackle - again, IMHO.. Speaking of "lean conditions", there is a little plastic box sitting right below the TCI that I, because the correct name slips my pea brain right now, will refer to as a vacuum balance box of sorts.. I have had to repair/replace/ work on a couple of those thru the years that, and this is a theory, have deformed and allowed air leaks because of riding in extremely high desert temps for hours and hours on end - sort of cooked the things if you will.. Air leaks there will cause some funky lean conditions and performance issues but, and relying on my somewhat challenged memory of days gone by, I dont recall even that being exhaust cackle related.. Might take a peek at the "seams" along that box too though.. @yamagrl,,,,,, what the heck is the proper name for the black plastic box of which I speak,,, I keep racking my brain and am getting a headache:doh:.. Messed up this thread enough,, onward to the next one Puc
  21. Same venue as last time Mi only they didnt have the barricades up so we could get in this time.. Worked perfect!! Larry n Joyce (smartest ones of our bunch FOR SURE) actually caged it over but Raggy n Jamie rode the scoots - HERO'S FOR SURE!! Raggy and Jamie were a little late (I know Raggy - paybacks ) cause they stopped at Grattan to watch Jay's daughter rip up the track there - she is a ripper that girl!! I was like ,,, betcha that was a tad warm out there on the tarmac!! Raggy commented something like - yea,,, and having to wear full leathers in that heat, can ya imagine:scared:
  22. NOW WE'RE TALKING RIV!!!:dancefool::dancefool: Sounds like an AWESOME deal brother - ya done GOOD!!!
  23. You betcha Mr. Tamale King Sure sounds suspiciously like a shift drum detent mechanism issue to me.. The shaft that you bikes shifter attaches to on the left side of your scoot passes thru the engine and reappears on the right side under the clutch. It is entirely possible that something has come loose in that mechanism and that is what is causing your problem. Go to this link - look at picture in post number 10 and you can get a good idea of what I am talking of: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?121678-Clutch-basket-remove Also might not be a bad idea to read DNA's whole thread there as it would give you some insight into what all is involved in getting to it.. +1 Tamale :big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon:
  24. Missed you folks too brother but TOTALLY understand!! We had a GREAT turnout with lop eared varmints coming from as far away as the east coast of Michigan (hi Carbon One, Joyce, Raggy and Jamie!!).. Like Raggy with the Rag Top (not just his 69 Grand Sport either - watch video,, thats that varmint Raggy with his back turned to the camera) has attested - it was a warm one but we still got er done!!! The featured video is actually about a very intelligent man who was DEFINITELY headed in the right direction - back to the DQ that we settled into last year! Dave - you got my thoughts and Prayers Up for your lower back brother - aint no fun not feeling well! Get feeling better and I hope to see you two at the next: Puc's Meet - Greet and Eat Meat!!!! INDEED,,, hot and sticky - think I dumped more water over my head than I actually drank !! Got all the staff up by the stage to for Leroys last song with us and then,, guess what? Leroy came over and signed Tweeksis!!! :dancefool: I think we all made a GREAT impression on Leroy and his band "L.C. Smoove" because he said they are looking forward to returning to us in 2017! THANK YOU to all you varmints who were able to make it - it was GREAT seeing everyone!!
  25. I am not even exactly sure what bike we are talking about DanL so dont feel bad Thinking we might be talking 2nd Gen but - iff we are in fact talking about a MK1 or MK2 then maybe I can help.. That harness with a set of 3 white stator wires inside it should have a 3 spade terminal attached to the frame spar above the forward bevel gear on the left side of the scoot (left if you are sitting on the bike). Gotta remove the plastic side body panel to see it. Lots of us old timers have removed that terminal and hard wired our stator harness cause we got sick of that puppy causing issues.. I actually had a BRAND NEW high amp terminal fail me there once - melted internally - blades touched together and POOF, stator went on permanent vacation.. I got fooling around one day playing with my ohm meter.. I know factory testing on those leads is like 3 to 7 ohms tested across each other and then testing each to ground = ya want infinity.. I also discovered that (going from memory here and its been a while so dont declare triple probation on me if I am wrong) if I left the terminal plugged in and started the bike - with a good stator I would read 11 or 12 volts AC across those leads - seems like that peeked at like 14 volts on the revs.. A bad stator I did the same test with tested like 8 volts AC.. WHEN PLUGGED IN TO THE TERMINAL.. (ya gotta test under the terminal with the little poker on the end of the test leads).. Not sure exactly what all that means cause I dont know squat about lectricity and I know there are easier ways to tell if your stator is gone (like look at your volt gauge on the dash - if its working backwards when ya rev the motor it's probably a good idea to check the connector we are talking about and maybe even stator time) but I that was fun typing that non the less:missingtooth:.. Thinking the 2nd Gens might be different with that infamous 3 blade terminal no longer in existence and the terminal now being down on the rectifier.. Stators being stators - seems like even of that is so, the testing should be about the same...
