100% percent right there with ya Riv!! Hopefully by that time the confounded things are also smart enough to fix themselves too cause by that time I gotta hunch that the back yard mechanic days will be a thing of the past... To start another rabbit trail like I have a bad habit of doing,,,, couple this with that little video someone posted about new Drone technology.. I personally cannot wait till someone makes an affordable 2 seater drone that flies as simple and as safe as this bike... I spect we're gonna all be @Flyinfool's when that happens... Amazing time of life!!!!!!!!!!

That number would probably be dependent on parts needed (if it needs slide diaphrams = kinda pricey) and whether or not you are removing the carbs from the scoot and just bringing in the carb bank in or if the shop has to do that too.. Also, there are getting to be more and more shops (at least in my area) that refuse to work on older scoots (especially mainstream dealerships). You might make a few phone calls and get some info but my guess is going to 200 to 500 off the scoot depending on parts and 400 to 750 on the scoot... Can always have the fun of doing it yourself = TONS of info around this joint PLUS I have recently watched a couple complete Carb rebuilds on video someone posted up on here.. Another alternative is picking up a set of carbs off e-bay - problem with that is that even though the ad may say "ready to go" you are still subject to private interpretation to what exactly that means @Micarl runs a bike shop,, be interesting to hear his thoughts on this..

Sheesh,, talk about taking all the fun out of scootin.. I betcha that Motorcycle LEO in California who gave us a ticket cause Tip's helmet was White and looked to much an Officer's Helmet wouldn't even bat an eye about writing the helmetless rider of that scoot a ticket for no helmet no matter what the manufacture says Same token though,, I would LOVE to take that concept scoot out for a rip!!!! BMW is amazing in their RnD (putting you to SHAME if your reading this Mom Yam). My nephew just picked up a brand new BMW dual sport adventure scoot.. BIG money for a trail bike IMHO but WOWZY does it have all the whistles and bells.. Got some kind of electronical traction control that you can wick it up as hard as you want = front wheel will lift about and an inch off the ground (and its a 1200cc) and it will NOT spin, will lift the front up about an inch and stay there = NO WAY TO GO OVER BACKWARDS IN THAT MODE.. Put er in "normal" mode and 4 gear wheelies any time.. Good article Jack - definitely a worthy chat point!!

,,,,,,,,, more like = "that sweetheart is my - POE AHEAD GUNK MAKE MY DAY - apparatus,, jump on my scoot we'll see if we can find some gunk to test it on"

yea,, stop squishin me Fool,,, Been running those Historic/Antique plates for ever.. One of the great advantages to riding a scoot half most of your ages:yikes::duck:

Amazing how deathly quiet it gets around here when the Saddle Fly's start their yearly infamous activities!! :witch_brew:

New bike dealerships are not all created equal IMHO.. When it comes to Trade In allowances a lot can be influenced by their volume and by their Franchise agreements - some places are controlled right down to exact floor plan outlay and held to exact year and models of used/trade in bikes they are allowed to have in the building.. Its not always as it seems in the bike business world.. Never hurts to shop around...

I know on my 1st Gen's its the dampening adjustment that shows the biggest difference in stiffness of ride. The air pressure increases the ride height but the dampening is directly affected by a different adjustment. I have never owned or fooled with any of the newer Ventures so I am not sure if they are damping adjustable (seems like they would be) but you might look closely and see if they are.. On the 1st Gens there is a small knob beside the shock shrader valve (on the non-compressor scoots) where you select for dampening..

Gotta absolutely LOVE the spirit of familiness around this joint!! I LOVE OUR FAMILY!!!:clap2::clap2: Now,, as far as ol Murphy and his strange concept of law,, as far as I am concerned,, something should have been written in those laws pertaining to being applicable to age.. Meaning that once a person gets over 60 years of age there should be a addendum therein that requires Murph to back off a little

AWESOME!!! Bama,, if the scoot has been setting for a while (actually - I would do this regardless) might not be a bad idea to start it up from cold, let it warm till it will idle and then spit check the headers to make sure its running on all four.. These V-4's will run remarkably well on 3 cylinders and, especially to someone new to them, can be very deceptive in detecting if they are running 100%. Just dampen your finger tip and test each header like your testing a hot iron. Depending on asking price for the one you are looking at, a carb job can be a pretty good place to dicker = I would deduct a couple hundred bucks if its only hittin on 3.. Also, common to the 1st Gens, are sacked fork springs. Relieve any air pressure in the forks and make sure you have a good 2 inches of travel in the springs. Easily repairable (and VERY common to need them) = Set of Progressive Springs that will run you around 100 bucks.. A good running 1st Gen MK2 should easily see 200k miles and 300k if ya take care of it.. THEY ARE SWEET SCOOTS, hope it works out for you!! Puc PS = if you get it = 's are mandatory around here (gotta a few lop eared varmints here that cant read:big-grin-emoticon:)

Guess even a server needs a good boot once in while too ey Boss!!! THANK YOU for your hard work on our behalf brother!!

Hi Tom, First off to VR!! Gotta agree with you, this is one interesting place! Lots of great folks with a tons of knowledge about scoots, especially the Ventures but certainly not limited to the Yamaha line.. Dont be afraid to ask about other brands too = all welcome!! Noticing you are from the great state of Texas? You might want to check our classifieds (found here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/ ) as I am almost sure you will find one in there well below your price range. By forum rules we are not suppose to openly sell here in the Water Hole but I can tell you this, those scoots that are posted in there are scoots that belong to supporting members here, just that fact helps A LOT cause you KNOW you are not being scammed.. A quick over view of that classified section. 4th line down = 1st Gen Complete Bikes. Those are the early model scoots with fixed fairings. Lots of us are still riding em and those old scoots hold a lot of passion around here even though they are old (like some of the lop eared varmints around here). GREAT bikes but not without their own little quirks BUT total recall about ANY of those quirks can easily be found here on the site. 5th line down is the 2nd Gen Complete Bike section. These are the later model Venture that has the Bat Wing fairing. You might want to look closely in there as I am sure there is one for sale in Texas well below your price range of 6k.. 6th line down is the "RSTD" line and this is the "cruiser Venture" with no fairing but a removable windshield. There are no bikes for sale in that section just for your info.. If you need more info on which is which you can also click on the "History" tab found on the top line of this page or,, if you wanna have some real fun - just post up any questions you have here in the Water Hole and we would be glad to talk your ear off:big-grin-emoticon:. Any way,, wanted to say HOWDY from the great state of Michigan and wish you all the best in finding your next steed!! Puc

:clap2::dancefool::thumbsup: Right there with ya Mike,, RIGHT THERE WITH YA!! Few years ago my BFF = Tip n I were out CTFW following the back roads of America.. After passing groups of guys heading toward Sturgis she leaned forward and said, "are you sure you wouldn't rather be riding with "the gang" - I padded her left leg, leaned back and told her there is NOTHING like having your very best friend chasing the wind on a motorcycle with ya.. Few days later we had stopped for gas out in Yellowstone when a large group of riders pulled in around us.. One of those guys came over, admired our beat up ol sticker covered 1st Gen with a Tent hanging on the back and says = "I would give ANYTHING if my wife would be willing to do something like that".. I , looked at Tip and then ask the guy = "even if you had to give up riding with the gang"? He laughed and said = "we are a close group and really good buddies but NOT THAT GOOD :big-grin-emoticon:".. Thousands and thousands of miles later and Tip never brought that subject up again

Hey DanL',, I took liberty and did a real quick "market study" by using Adhuntr on the Triked 1800 Wings.. Everything I spun up on there came out above 20k and most of those were way higher mileage scoots than we are talking here.. I did find one of the same year you are talking about - take a peek http://rmn.craigslist.org/mcy/5713350334.html (but hurry before the Boss catches us talking bikes for sale in the Water Hole again ).. Gotta be realistic though and remember that just because they are asking 21k doesnt mean they will get that number.. Thinking 15 to 20 has gotta be about right for this time of year - maybe, maybe not.. 6k miles bro - WOW, that is almost embarrassing to say about a scoot thats 14 years old aint it You can go to Adhuntr.com ,, type in Goldwing trike and you will find all the Craigs list trikes across America.. Its a good way to at least get a handle of what others are asking.. Make sense? Sorry if not.. Trying to help bro - all the best in your endeavor!!
