WOWZY WOW WOW WOW Silv - she's a beauty!! CONGRATS on the new ride and DOUBLE CONGRATS on the retirement that's right around the corner!! Hope you folks TOTALLY enjoy the new way of life!! :ice_congrats-vi6886:ice_congrats-vi6886:You_Rock_Emoticon: CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE PICS AND FOLLOW YOUR ADVENTURES BROTHER Gonna do it myself next year and we been talking something similar. Only in our case, cause we are hard core tent campers, our move toward a more comfortable way to tour is gonna probably be an extended cab 4x4 with a topper so we can still camp in obscure places and get a little more distance between the older bones and the ground.. We have high hopes of back trackin on some of the two tracks in the mountains out west when we could go no farther 2 up on Tweeks to answer that common nagging question = what really was wayyyy up there beyond those mud holes in Colorado and out in the State of Washington

WELL PUT Rodney !!!!!! NOT SO FAST BRO - JUST HEARD WE MAY HAVE FLORIDA :dancefool::dancefool: and, get this,, even my home state has a shot in this possible revolution - been a long long long time since THAT has happened.. Would LOVE to be one of those nasty little deplorable fly's on the wall in the establishment HQers right now.. :stirthepot:.. Been watching the gamblers take on this = they just moved the probabilities up to +91 % for "we the people" :guitarist 2:.... Keep the Prayers Up DanL ---- I dont care what that guy told you about God not hearing your prayers = THEY ARE WORKING BROTHER,,, HE IS HEARING YA LOUD N CLEAR!!! PS - thanks for moving over n letting me pee on the fence next to ya:big-grin-emoticon:,,,,, worth the pain IMHO. Life aint so bad on probation when ya got someone to share the time with.... We get busted I'll buy first round on our way to lock up where we can sing that ol Johnny Cash song together = "I hear the train a comin,,, she's comin round the bend,,,, me n Dan aint seen the sunshine,, since,, we dont know when... Yea we're stuck in VR prison,, right where we beeelong,,,, BUT that ***** trains a comin - and THAT is worth this song..... When he was just young man,,, ol Dan was fit n firm,, he made the enemy shiver when he squished em like a worm,,,, my buddy served his country - and he did it well,,, (this is that spot where Johnny would "plunky plunk" on his geetar) now with his prayers he's right back at it, and only time will tell..... JUST HEARD THE GREAT STATE OF WISCONSIN IS ON THE TRAIN!! 232 with only 38 to go!!!! KEEP PRAYING DanL = KEEP PRAYING!!!! -

GOOD POINT BONGO!!! Chris,, I got extra coils your welcome to if ya need em and they will fit,, just give the word.. Not sure whether they are off an 83 or an 84 but I gotta hunch the coils dont matter - Bongo?.. Also got an extra TCI box,,,, all still mounted on the platform together.. Thinking the complete "unit" should be in good shape.. Also thinking the TCI is different from the 83 to 84's.. Seems like the only 84 I ever had (first Venture) had a vac line connected to the nip where ya hook the gauges for syncing, the rest of them - including Tweeks, had the usual little rubber plug there instead.. Bongo,, do you know whether or not Chris would be able to use an 83 TCI on his 84 if indeed his bike is different? ,, its entirely possible my train of thought is way out there,, if so,,, forgive my and you are more than welcome to what ever I got laying around here regardless.. Great to see ya home and tweekin on the scoots again young man - lets get er done so you and your kids can go play!!!! Ya know what,,, now that I think about this,, I think the unit I have on the shelf is actually off my 1st Venture:scared: (kids named her Beeg - short for "Big Girl).. I can post some pics of it and see if it matches what yours looks like - if it matches and yours is an 84 (I know mine was) it should be a complete quick bolt in.. Be HONORED to support your endeavor!!
-
GOOD ON YA COFF!! Looks like your chasing it down!! Might not be a bad idea to double check BongoBobs suggestion.. I have had numerous issues with Plug Caps going high ohm.. Not sure on yours but mine had resistors in em that can give ya all kinda headaches.. IMHO, if the Tach isnt acting really strange after cleaning the pins on the TCI there is a good chance your TCI is still doing its thing.. KEEP PICKING AWAY AT HER = cant wait to see that great big in a pic when Genesis gets his heart back

Have visited a lot of countries over the course of my life,,, went there and had a BLAST by living by this rule = "When in Rome.....".. Respected their way of life, got easily accepted (even though crash courses in learning foreign languages never was one of my high points) and enjoyed the cultural differences.. Most, if not all, of the off shore places I have visited had boundries about becoming a Citizen of their land. One was even surrounded by guard towers with machine gun nests in them and mine fields so you couldnt get in even if ya wanted to and their people couldnt get out - really felt sorry of em,, watching em walking around over there.. Left those places HONORED to have met the folks I did, HONORED that they were willing to show me what life was REALLY like in their way of life.. Gotta say though,, I have never ever lost the "feeling" one gets when they return to their home soil.. Bottom line is I think the unique way of life we have here in the States has been so corrupted by cheap sell outs from some not so honest people and by foreign influences that have never understood (or appreciated) what its like to live in land where Individual Liberty is a way of life.. Those influences have eroded our homeland to the point that it's hard for even some U.S. citizens to identify with what we really are suppose to be - hard to expect modern day immigrants or foreigners to figure it out if even our countrymen cant.. It would AMAZING to see a return of our original way of life but thats a stretch when ya think about it. OldGoat,,, sorry for what your going thru brother and, IMHO, finding yourself caught up in the mess that I am talking about.. Gotta say,, I have TONS of Hispanic/Mexican friends who would NEVER act like that and would be first in line to stand against that type of disrespect. Wonder if you have discovered a hot bed of people who are illegally in our country..

,,, reading this stuff is heartbreaking to say the least.. Prayers Up for all involved and Rest In Peace to another one of our Nations finest!! TERRIBLE!!!

Way I figure it,, if I can wait all winter for riding season to start again my clocks can also wait to be messed with - I just leave mine alone. Come March, by the time @Flyinfool is done playing with his Wisconsin White Washer :snow::cold: and I am all done hibernating :draming:the clocks magically reset them selves to the correct time on their own which means its RIDE TIME again:happy65:!!

Lets talk about ride techniques for flat tire survival. DEDICATED TO SNIPE!
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Yep Snipe,, maiden voyage for a break in ride down to Tail of the Dragon and on down to Florida. Hadn't even earned her first stickers yet, just figuring out whether or not the old girl still had it in her.. -
Lets talk about ride techniques for flat tire survival. DEDICATED TO SNIPE!
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Even though I religiously check air pressures in my scoot tires and all that, I have had my fair share of flats - thankfully more rear than fronts. While never actually having gone down on one of my 1st Gens from such a malady I gotta say, just riding one down with a flat is enough to give me an adrenaline pump that will cause my heart to over rev for 2 days so I am avid about the air pressure maintenance and gazing at tire tread looking for problems (like nails or delamination) even when just getting fuel. Matter of fact,, I dont enjoy that type of excitement so much that I have even developed my form of monitoring my air pressures while in motion. I like to watch for cracks in the pavement and "listen" to the noise my tires make while passing over the cracks. By being mindful of the tires "normal" sounds - its amazing how one can detect low pressure just by hearing a "thump" instead of a "thud".. All done in an effort to avoid the need to go thru the hair raising, blood pressure increasing flat tire ride. Rear tire flats. I have noticed with modern spokeless wheels that the probability of having a tire seperate from the wheel (break the bead) is greatly reduced. Had a blow out on a fully packed Harley with spoked wheels at speed out in Ventura California one time that took 4 lanes of highway to get er stopped - mainly because the tire came loose and half of it came free of the rim and the tube got tangled in the sprocket = what mess and what a handful. The several rear flats I have had on my MK1's have been no where near as exciting, as it were, do inpart to stiffer side walls but also to the "beads" IMHO.. Even on a complete instant blow-out like what happened to our scoot in the pic below (a 2 x 1" x 3/8th inch piece of steel went right thru a brand new Shinko near Johnson City TN - the steel was inside the tire when we broke it down) the ride down to safety was the same. Heard the "pop", felt the wiggle, leaned back and told Tip to set still we had a flat, bike was fairly stable (enough so that I reached up and turned on the 4 ways), apply no braking - let the engine braking bring it down while motioning traffic we had problems.. As usual - the excitement didn't begin until about 20 miles an hour - THIS IS NORMAL IMHO.. Ya get down into slower MPH and the bike wants to "drift" into a dog trackin fashion. This is where it would be real easy to try and steer out of it and over steer can be deadly. I like to just lightly feed counter steer into the dog tracking drift and lightly lead it to drift in the other direction. Generally speaking and after having several flat rear tires on the MK1's over the years - I have found that by tenderly guiding and controlling the drift a person can maintain control within one lane under most circumstances even when fully loaded and 2 up. Tip n I had a rear flat on our Honda Helix a couple years. A Helix is just a little 250 "scooter" that is low slung and amazingly comfy for what it is. That flat tire taught me something about how bike design really does effect flat tire ride out.. I have had flats on everything from mopeds, dirt bikes, choppers, cruisers and full blown touring bikes and gotta say - THAT THING WAS A MONSTER!! Took ALL of a two lane road and then some ditch time to get er stopped without going over.. My fully loaded 2 up MK1's have been WAYYYYY less drama. After thinking about it and remembering my low riding, forward controlled Harley experience in California, I came to the theory that low center of gravity combined with forward controls is comfortable (I like both = gotta have my midship pegs cause I do like to stand up) but this may not be the best design for flat tire survival. The tire on the Helix did stay on the wheel and did not break the bead but WOW was that a rush.. Front flats are quite a bit different. Because its on the steer tire (I think) I never found the front to insist on doing the "drift" like a rear flat. More of a strong tendency to head shake/wobble at the bars and, once again, it worsens as you chop speed and load the front end. We have a "draw bridge" not far from us with steel grating on it,, a lot like the steel on the Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan that I LOVE riding on the steel section and peeking down thru the grating at the water far below.. Anyway,, probably sounds nuts but I compare the "feel" of a front flat to the "feel" of riding the grating - especially when flat at high speed. Lower speed or when things get dicey, what I do is lightly apply rear brake and work it against the clutch while keeping power on it so I can control front end rise. Its amazing how instantly you can control head shake and keep the bike up right by lifting the weight off occasionally. Having a tire break bead and or come off the wheel at speed is a TRUE monster. Had a 752 Dunlop on my KX500 split a side wall at speed down a powerline and it was an instant endo - I am sure there are talented folks out there that coulda pulled that one off but gotta say, it was WAYYY above my paygrade if possible.. The biggest thing with all of this, front or back (IMHO - consider the source), is to keep reminding yourself that your not in hurry to get the bike stopped - what your trying to do is get it stopped SAFELY and if it needs or takes some extra footage to get it done - take your time and ride it down.. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!! -
Are you getting tired of TV commercials that Stretch The Truth?
cowpuc replied to baylensman's topic in Watering Hole
Aint never had nuttin but antenna TV somewhat because of all the commercials and junk but cost also plays a part .. Picked up one of those 60 mile amplified digital antennas and it does a good job.. With all the "streaming" available online = aint even messed with that in months... :think:Then there is my VR addiction,, greatest show on earth right here so I dont even stream much either ... LIVE news, commentaries, documentaries, sit coms, soap opera's and endless technical programming - all with NO commercial interups and a measly buck a month:bowdown:.. Now if I could just stay off probation -

cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Your welcome on the thread Snipe, was hoping you wouldnt take offense to me posting it up. The subject matter that you asked about is VERY interesting and one that I dont remember being talked about much - she's a good one IMHO.. Never really did get caught up in the spectator side of MXin Snipe - more of the participant type - spent many years (and LOTS of :mo money:cause I was never good enough to get a factory sponsorship) on the Motocross Tracks. Raced 68 to 73 on an early UGLY (it was WHITE of all things) DT250 I had converted to an MX bike. Running forward mounted shocks, webber reed valve (this was before Yammy made the reed block OEM), Wisco pistons drilled for porting, portin n polishing, Bassani pipe and on and on all of my own doings = just as much of goofy gearhead as I was into scoots. 73 came around, got a job spinning wrenches at a local Honda shop (they did help with my MX addiction - buying parts at cost help A LOT) and Honda came out with the CR250M Elsinore -:dancefool::clap2: - ordered and recieved the very first one in West Michigan and brother - did it KICK BUTT!!! 5 gear wheelies at the fingertips,, anytime - anywhere (being able to ride er on the back wheel is an MXer/dirt riders best item in their bag of tricks, so to speak - hit obstructions or obstacles with the front end up and you would be amazed at what you can go thru). Wore out that 1st Elsie in a two years and bought another new one. Quit racing when I got married and had kids BUT still competed amature occasionally with our local Club. Lots and lots of Enduro's and Harescrambles - occasional MX.. Always LOVED flyin the jumps and doublin whoops.. Jumped over to big bore's in the 80's - big ol torquey 2 strokes and LOVED their HP. Ran a KX500 I had made "street legal" till 2003 when I broke my back in a deer/car wreck. Had to divert to street only to stay out of a wheel chair,, mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.. Sheesh,, got me side tracked yakkin dirt and ran out of umph to even begin writing an essay about my opinion on riding out a flat. ,,, = pulled a MiRider and my thread :cool10::cool10: Side note - I was pretty strange back in the day - here is a pic of my High School Graduation pic. ONLY way I was willing to get my pic taken -
Been long enough that I am not sure where it was even at but Snipe asked this prudent question (IMHO) in another thread.. Thought he might post the ? up in a new thread here in the Water Hole but I dont see it AND, me being impatient me and loving to and :Im not listening toabout bikes - thought I would post it up,,,,,,,,, dedicated to that lop eared varmint Sniper of course!! The question at hand is what works for you when it happens - how do ya survive a flat.. Front? Back? Both? Gotta go crash (this type = ),, cant wait to compare notes about this one..

Pipes popping
cowpuc replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Gary,, I have played with scoot motors some thru the years.. Built a number of em with Valve overlap in the camming, high compression stuff where being piped for scavenging was essential and, knowing the valve timing of our Ventures (no overlap) - I really dont think that is an issue. I have also ran (before getting home for test n tune) Ventures with carbs plugged, diaphrams torn, air filter holed from mice, muffler missing on one side and on and on and generally speaking,, what you are describing just doesn't "fit" for some reason.. Tell you what does fit though,, having an exhaust leak up near the head.. That'll do it IMHO.. If it were my bike and I was chasing what you are - I think the first place I would begin is making sure the exhaust system is sealed, especially back to the muff joints.. If its loose on the muff seals it will probably snort fire when ya wack er up and chop er BUT, because its pulling fresh air AFTER the collector all the cracklin will come out the chopped muffs ya got on er instead of internal of the collector... -
:dancefool::clap2: ,,,,, hey Rand,,,, what kind of night time temps did you and Linda experience down yonder brother? Getting some frost up here:doh:

Actually Sylv,, you are 100% full correcto mungo brother so just keep swinging that bat brother... Only connection I made with the Rocket 3 was current Trumpet Rocket 3 (COOL SCOOT!!)... Got myself all confused again,,, THANK YOU for keeping it from spreading like Cow Puc

GOT THAT BRO!!!! Tip says LOVE YA and sends a :bighug:right back at cha DanL!! She's a keeper that young lady is ,,, hear ya brother!! Buddy and I are out playing on the scoots - Tip n his wife were out doing lady stuff, he and I played hooky from yard work and went riding.. Time slipped away, found ourselves a good ways from home and decided we best jump on the ickspressway to beat the ladies home. Got bookin down the ickspressway, locked Tweeks throttle and slid back on Tips seat, let go of the bars - sat back and relaxed.. Buddy was :crackup:his heart out, soon he was doing the same on his Ultra Limited. Knee steering around cars, lots of ... When we got home I told Dave (my buddy) that it would be really cool to get a couple of those pump up dolls to carry in our trunks just in case a situation like that ever came up again. Blow em up - duc tape their hands to the grips - sit back and enjoy the ride:big-grin-emoticon:.. Didnt do it cause of what Dan pointed out:big-grin-emoticon: ,,,,,, wonder who would get the ticket if "the doll" got caught speeding:stirthepot:

Are you getting tired of TV commercials that Stretch The Truth?
cowpuc replied to baylensman's topic in Watering Hole
One nice thing about it,,, we can always push that little off button and go riding... IMHO,, riding doesnt have near the commercials.. Unless you happen to stop for gas at one of these new fangdangled stations with the pumps that have a built in TV in them with the commercials playing there too.. ,,, even when that has happened to me though it just makes me down right happy that my bike only holds 5 gallons of gas so its not that bad -
"Tinker" got my vote,,,, takes lots of tinkerin to keep these ol sweethearts churnin..

AWESOME ??'s there Snipe!!! Thinkin ya oughta copy/paste this into a new thread in the Water Hole and in there a little ... Had my share of flats on these scoots thru the years and would LOVE to participate in the subject matter and hear what others have to say!! Keep the air pressures up on the tires, run the mono up to 73 pounds, set of Progressives up front and pack er up and head for the Bonneville Cammy... No weaving or wobbling all the way up to top speed...
