Prayers for my Brother in Law
cowpuc replied to Freebird's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
WOWZY,, sooo sorry to read the followup updates on this Don - please know you folks have our deepest concerns and our prayers are with each of you thru this!! Don, have you thought at all about starting a "Go Fund Me" type drive for Terry's needs? I have never done one of those and dont know much about how they work (as far as how the donations are allocated and all that) but it might be worth checking out. I do know from experience that even with decent insurance, medical stuff like you folks are dealing with on Terry's behalf can get really pricey. Just a thought! If nothing else, maybe make a "drive" here for Terry? Give folks a chance to chip in as/if they can.. Take care of yourself boss and your family, we will be good and TOTALLY understand even if the site had to be shut down due to technical difficulties and we all had to figure out VR Face Book for a short time. FAMILY FIRST BROTHER!!!! Prayers Up and love you folks! Puc n Tip -
Right there with ya Dooie!! I personally found Cleeses comments kinda stupid and thought that was the point to whole thing - no politics needed !! Prayers Up for The Boss and family with whatever they are dealing with = ya got my thoughts and prayers Don!!

Hi Bently and to VR - I live in Michigan and have purchased many many "off season" scoots thru the years - GREAT PRICES but, as you mention - kind of raises the risk of purchase = I TOTALLY get your point!! IMHO, you have gotten really good advice so far from some of the best. As already mentioned, one of the maladies our V-4's can suffer from are carb issues from sitting. Its not just the jetting and other orvices that plug - slides get sticky and diaphrams crack.. If I were going to look at it and it were at a dealership, I would require them to move the scoot into their shop area to let me cold start it (and I would double check the jugs to make sure it hadnt been warmed up for me). Turn on the key and you will here the fuel pump "clicking" as it pumps fuel into the bowls, toggle the kill (not sure this works on the TD's - does on the MK1 Venture's) switch to keep cycling the pump till the bowls are full and the pump runs no more on recycle. Check under scoot for any fuel over flow indicating float valve issues. Chock on, touch start button - should start. After start up, resist urge to twist throttle, let idle on choke circuit only as long as necessary to maintain idle - move off choke as quickly as possible. Once choke is off, let idle a couple minutes on carb low speed jetting (no throttle twists yet), dampen a finger tip with spit and check each exhaust header (like checking a hot iron). Look for differences between cylinders in spit sizzle = you wanna make sure she's hittin on 4. Once happy with running on 4, wick it up quickly and see if she hesitates or responds quickly - this should REALLY improve as bike warms up to op temp. If, at operating temp, it does have a tendency to stumble, hesitate or sound funny in the pipe note - diaphrams or sticky slides can cause it. With the bike warmed up to operating temp, at idle - pull the clutch in one time and hold it - aim the scoot at a wall or door way and place it in gear. Any "creeping" or lunging forward could indicate clutch issues. Put bike back in neutral, let it idle, shine headlight on wall area - watch headlight brightness as you rev the throttle a little - you should see the light get a little brighter each time you exceed a couple grand on the R's indicating the charging system is working. I would also take a close look at the brake calipers and rotors. I have been riding MUCH older versions of the Venture for years and have always been amazed at how quickly Caliper pistons can become sticky (or stuck) from sitting. Check yours by squeezing n holding front brake - releasing while putting a forward push on the bike - it should roll forward fairly easily as caliper releases - same with back. Take a pen light with you and check the pads for wear. Also look at the rotors for qouging. Although there are no guarentees in life, most of us have found these motors and scoots to be AMAZING in their durability and performance = best of the best IMHO. Hope if all works out and you make the buy yours is EXACTLY that for you!! P.S. - ditto on the BEST 12 bucks you will ever spend by joining this group = there be GENIUS'S roaming around this joint who can solve ANY issue you may have with you scoot!!! Also lots of us normal folk who are just fun to n with too:guitarist 2:

OUCHY OUCH OUCH OUCH (back under the truck),, night 2 at home,,,,, who on God's green earth would have thunk that restarting a vacated pooping mechanism after a week could hurt that much.. After a longgg hard all nighter fight = back in the trenches again,, FINALLY at 11:45am that battle was WON!! Unreal,, just UNREAL!!!! I probably have lost some of my childhood memories of when I first started going #2 but if the initial startup was this rough ya sure think one would remember it!!! ,, sorry, kinda gross,, poor ol @Flyinfool (and all the rest of you lop eared varmints) is probably gonna rue the day that he started this thread and asked how I was doing and what I was up to :happy34: ,,, Putting a whoopin on cancer is certainly not for wusses (IMHO)... My HIGHEST regard for ALL have been there/done that in ANY form or fashion!!!!!
-
:crackup:,,,,, ya oughta check n see if your naught neighbor has a bigger problem than you do with em Raggy,,, maybe he thought of that before you did :stirthepot: ,, take balloon, stretch it over your fingers, grab a bunch and fold the balloon over em, tie it off. Make a bunch of em, we will tie the balloons in a tree up in Baldwin after a Hot Dog outing and have a shoot out - first stink wins!! Use to be done dynamite but stink bugs are more plentiful these days!!
-
You nailed DanL!!! Just like trying to pump up a Pan,, all's gotta be spot on - if that mag taint right she taint gonna go.. After he got me lit, I played around some with doing my own "lung stretchin" getting my starting technique downpat.. I noticed that for some reason the emptier I forced my lungs to go the more volume I could pull.. Only thing is, that also made me cough (WOW was that painful - still is) and the coughing brought up little hard mucus chunks.. Stuff was STRANGE - little tiny 1/4 inch piece between the thumb and index finger could be stretched to wide open of the fingers like a rubber band - never saw nothing like it = NOT GOOD!!! :think:Got asked by another dear friend about my love for "Cigars" today,, I smiled and said that "love" has disappeared - seeing what I saw put them on the other side of the front line in Enemy territory:stickpoke::stickpoke: Thought of your "flailed chest" injury Dan,,, cant even imagine Thanks again for the continued support - God is good brother!!

WOWZY!! Take a 5 day break and the whole world goes nuts!!! I still think that Polaris's screw up with the Victory line right at the very beginning of production is what ultimately killed the Vic.. One of the original dealerships in our area was owned by a friend of mine. When Polaris decided to turn their backs on the warranties of all those early model 92 inch scoots with all their problems, he tossed Polaris out!! Lots and lots of early purchasers were "stuck" with real problems and, in our area, Victory became a very very bad name and these folks never seemed to forget. I also was SHOCKED that Polaris had moved the sell point on the new Indians up another 3 grand by the time they unveiled at Sturgis (when they unveiled the engine at daytona the bikes were gonna come out 3 grand cheaper:doh:) - putting them in direct competition in price with HD:no-no-no: and no "prove" period:confused24: .. I am with Randy ( @rickardracing ) on this one,, I think if Polaris would have held their prices back on the Indian, given them a REAL chance at competing on the open market with The Motor Company = perhaps they could have carried the Vic line some to compete against the "metrics" like they said they intended to do!! I LOVE em all and it makes me sad to read another marquee has bit the dust = bummer!!

Unless @StarFan and gang happens to be in town Roller ,,,,,,,

Thanks Lewis - greatly appreciated my friend, thought a LOT about our kids down at St. Judes this week brother. I just scrapped the tip of the ice berg on whats going on, thinking of those little ones in the trenches doing battle with this stuff made me shed a lot of :95:this week!!! Thanks for ALL you (and others) have done on their behalf too brother!!
-
I think its a Pine Beatle or "stink bug" as mentioned Raggy.. Had our share of fun with them thru the years too.. Had one land on my forehead one time while trying to catch a snooze - smacked it thinking SPIDER - wrong!!! I have found that if you gently pick em up in your hand with the tenderness of handlingly a butterfly and toss em outside you can save a lot stinky!! Sniff your hand when you do and you will smell light piney odor when you do!!
-
:thumbsup::thumbsup: read post above bro!!!! Got er done!!!!
-
Beautiful (repeating Tip!!)!! Thanks Rand (and ALL) for being there!! WE KNEW IT!!!! Actually Snype they are being REALLY easy on ya!! This bunch of lop eared varmints has spoken in "code" for years and I have fought tiredlessly to decipher a lot of it - no breaks for those ol boy!! Do me a HUGE favor and anytime you feel the need to ask something that seems silly,, just ask it brother - YOU are on a roll that can benefit ALL of us Yep, "CTFW" has its very roots solidly implanted in non other than YammerDan!!! We all participated in it functionally but my buddy down yonder in West by God (another Yammer special) is the one who put a tag on it in an effort to help us understand what we were doing :biker:
-
The short version - be it ever so humble,, their is NO PLACE LIKE HOME and we are here!! The long version for the more daring: Well, THANKS to all your support and by the grace of God we made er folks!! The surgeon prayed with Tip n I (kinda rare these days), they nocked me out and the surgery took about 5 hours. Although I have surgery followup next week at his office, he informed us when he signed me out at the hospital that it will be a full 5 weeks before we have a definitive answer as to whether or not more parts will have to be removed. Of course, we are hoping/praying that they got it all and we dont have return to front line duty in the war against this nasty stuff for a good while! Surgery recovery went well until it was time to get up and walk around - thats was not much fun. When that all started I was feeling like my hero Wile E Coyote!! Picture him getting splattered on the grill of a semi out in the desert somewhere.. Arms and leg spread out and his torso goes SPLAT and he slowly druels down the front of the truck.. His body bumps off the pavement a few times before it disappears under the truck, bouncing up and down in a good ole fashion well learned coyote body roll, the type still used by bikers out practicing their high speed wheely riding technique. Then Wile E's work apron gets caught on a driveshaft under the truck and the body contact he is absorbing each time he bounces off the ground are now increased exponentially as he finds out the undercarriage of the truck is just as hard as the pavement below him and the rpm's of the driveshaft increases the "bounce" to more of a painful vibration than an identifiable "THUD THUD THUD" of just bouncing under the truck.. Finally the leather apron string lets go and Wile E is deposited like a deflating basketball under the 53 footer being pulled by the tractor.. Before FINALLY being freed from the battle zone he had found himself in, Wile E's hanker chief wrapped around his neck gets caught on the Dock Bumper on the trailer and he is dragged an extra 5 miles just for "kicks" before the noose finally gives way... As that pesky Coyote rolls off the side of the highway in a heep a small thought balloon appears above his head that reads "Ouch"!! Dear Mr Coyote = I can relate = ouch!!! But just like my friend Wile E = I am still here to harass you guys and, very similar to how quickly he returned in seemingly decent condition - my pain loss is almost noticibly better by the hour!!! With the bad parts gone, other pieces on their way to be dissected, having had nothing to eat since Saturday night and having had very little sleep = I was looking forward to being released Tuesday but that was the day they found out I had a collapsed lung. After a number of trips to X-Ray and then a REALLY interesting one to the CT Room for a "flash" view with stuff that glowed (WOW what a story = you guys will LOVE it!!), it was discovered that at least I had NO blood clots in my lungs causing my breathing issues!! Ok, the CT story.. To get released from the hospital ya gotta be able to suck a vacuum of "1500" and have over "90" on your blood oxy level.. Blood oxy level was at 80 and I could just barely make the needle on the vac gauge work. Felt like I was hydrolocked. X-rays revealed the lung collapse, a nurse comes in to "flush out" the artery right on top of the muscle on my right arm just before sending me for the CT "flash view" which has to be done exactly correctly with a good flush in order for the stuff they inject inside the lung vessels to see if they are clotted.. She flushed it out, capped it off and away we went. On the way down to the CT room I got talking scoots with the guy pushing my table down.. Fellow gearhead!! We pulled into CT, the tech came right out, got up me on the machine and positioned me, he hooked up the IV, I got my hands in just the right position = he told me to let him know when I "felt" the familiar warmth of the injection,,,, slid in the machine, said I "feel" the injection but it "feels" strange (not the normal zingy around my teeth - more a cool dripping feeling down my arm n back), he comes out, looks and see's the fluid running down the side of the bed under the table I am on.. Rapid Traverses me out of the CT Hub, looks at me and says the IV Valve broke!! He said "I think if we are really really careful, we can work together and replace the valve and redo the injection and still get a good view (alternative being a lung reflush). I said = OH HECK YEA - now your in MY mancave!!! The 3 of us worked together and after the successful read, we all "fist bumped" and I nicknamed the tech "macgiver" which he LOVED. He looked at me as I was being wheeled out the door and said - thanks for making a mess all over my CT Table - I laughed and told him just the thought of that made my day - grease rags and oil dry are in the corner!! Still hydrolocked, my surgeon finally was called in.. He looked at everything, talked to me about how I was "feeling" and gave me the news that I had to hang around until all this was resolved.. Said he REALLY thought I was NOT suffering from lung collapse but from lung compression from being filled with air for surgery.. He grabbed a pillow, draped it across my abdomen, grabbed both ends of the pillow and told me to breath in and out the best I could. As I did he "messaged" my innards with the pillow by pushing in HARD against my abdomen! Talk about WOWZY painful!! With eyes tearing up I told him FIRMLY = THAT HURTS! He looked me right in the eyes I said "I KNOW - BUT I GOTTA DO THIS - JUST WORK WITH ME A LITTLE LONGER!!", nuther few minutes (seemed like FOREVER!!) or so and BINGO - my lungs reformed some and I was sucking just under 1000 on the meter (not good enough but wayyy better) and my oxy came up by 3 points (to 83). After an extended stay and thru LOTS of walking, I passed the test and am now home!! The inside of the operating room looked like something out of NASA!! Wayyyy cool!! I talked with the Anisteesia people about a REAL concern of being strapped down and "irriating" my sciatic nerve damage suffered from back injury years ago. I was told that should be NO problem with this "new" surgery room technology = guess what, THEY WERE RIGHT = not bad at all = got offered Norco painkillers for a take home, felt good enough to pass on em (I dont do well with them anyway - they REALLY tare up my insides), only have taken a few Ibuprovins since home for pain - living on your thoughts and prayers for pain has me feeling pretty dog gone good = THANK YOU and THANK GOD!! On the other side of that coin, something I never really realized was how painful little pockets of air working their way out of the areas around internal body organs can be. I know,, I know that I am known to be hard to follow on my discription of stuff but I swear that somehow that air moved up into my shoulders (right side first). Up my back and into the muscle area of the shoulder!! No drugs = walking and movement seems to help the most!! So, a general flow chart , how am I feeling (in case your wondering).. Having all those inside parts outside and gone and outside pulled inside and sewn up and peeing into a bag aint the worst thing in the world I tell ya!! I am FINALLY able to sleep more than 2 hours at a time (been a long time) PLUS, if this is permanant - driving/riding cross country and not stopping to pee is gonna make Iron Buttin a piece of cake!!!! Thanks again for ALL the support - a more compassionate group of lop eareds there has never been! Love ya'll Puc PS - a special thanks to FlyinFool for holding off on the powder this week!! PsPs - to ALL people fighting in the war against Cancer - I learned alot - my thoughts and prayers are with each of you - thank you if you are a Medical person for being there too!!
-
Thanks again brothers and sisters!! Will update as soon as I am able!! See you soon with a cancer free, faster, smarter and even better looking Puc than ever (cant lose with all the love found here!!!)!!! Love ya'll Puc

On ebay right now, will post the ad up in classifieds so ya'll can see some pics too but thought I would stick a copy of the ads copy in here: ""1994 Yamaha V-Max, with EZS Sidecar. Very fun, practical, and fast. One of the few sidecar rigs that you can burn rubber and do 100 MPH on if you want to. Or, just ride around town, haul your groceries, take a trip with the family. The previous owner road this rig from Illinois to Alaska with his two sons in the car and he and the wife on the bike. Sidecar seat is about 30 inches wide so can easily accommodate two children or two small adults. Huge trunk on the car. The interior of the trunk measures about 27” X 24” and is about 22 inches deep. Trailer hitch on the sidecar and is already wired to pull a trailer if you need more space. Two auxiliary gas tanks under the body of the car hold a total of 11 gallons. With the 4 gallon tank on the bike you have a total of 15 gallons of fuel. A valve on the fuel lines let you select fuel from the bike or fuel from the car aux tanks. A visual fuel gage on the car tanks let you know when you’re getting low on gas. Brand new windshield (still with protective wrap on it) for the car included. All lights, horn, turn signals function, except one marker light on the car, The bike is set up for a serious sidecar tug. Leading link custom front end from England. Front wheel is a modified Saab car wheel. Automotive tires on the front and back wheels and on the car wheel. Billet-6 (6 piston) calipers on the front and rear bike brakes. Brembo brake on the car. Braided steel brake lines all around. 12 volt Powerlet style power outlet on the bike. Two seats for the bike. The original, stock seat and also a custom touring seat with back rest made by Corbin Seats. Full Hannigan fairing with lowers and storage on each side of the upper section. This is one of the last fairings that Dave Hannigan made before he sold that portion of his business to concentrate on making just sidecars and trikes. Carbs have been fully disassembled and cleaned New carb intake tubes New spark plugs Bike brake calipers just rebuilt with new pistons, seals, and brake pads New battery Fresh engine oil, final drive oil, brake fluid, and coolant change New final drive about 6,000 miles ago New clutch about 10,000 miles ago Approximately 76,000 miles on the bike. With the modified car wheel on the front the speedometer/odometer runs about 15% fast so odometer mileage is not exact. Issues: Car seat in good condition, but overall interior needs updated. Canvas top for car is still usable, but showing some wear Touring seat cover showing wear on the left side only from rider and passenger getting on and off on that side only. Carbs still need some sorting out. I disassembled and cleaned them, but I’m not a good tuner. Sidecar brake currently inoperable, but not really needed with 3 great disc brakes on the bike. Normal cylinder compression for a V-Max is 199 psi with 170 psi a minimum. A recent check on this bike showed: Cylinder 1 - 187 psi Cylinder 2 – 157 psi Cylinder 3 – 185 psi Cylinder 4 – 162 psi When I put a small amount of motor oil in the plug hole of number 2 and 4 the compression reading went up to 175 and 195 respectively. Other than that, this is a great sidecar rig with a lot of potential. I hate to see it go, but I’ve got too many bikes now and have already purchased my next sidecar rig to play with.""" Lots going on here!! Cant wait to read any thoughts you varmints may have on it later in the week!!!! One last for a couple days!!!!! ur ol buddy Puc:missingtooth:

I picked up one of those little HF Bead Breakers a number of years ago for $15 after using one of those HF coupons. After breakin beads with 2x4's, car method like above, C-Clamps, 16 inch Channel Locks and even beating them loose by standing on the tire and using a heavy wrecking bar - gotta say that little bead breaker is the best 15 bucks I ever spent.. Sure makes the tire change routine a lot easier I tell ya cause those beads can be a formittable challenge unless your !!

,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,:scratchchin:,,,, ,,,,, many years ago when I was heavily into snowmobiling (LOVED MY T-CATS = 1000cc's of pure 3 cylinder 2 stroke horsepower = 165 horse right out of the crate = make those ski's stand up and dance ) and could handle the cold, I made a box under the hood that I slow cooked Hot Dogs while I was ripping up the Michigan trails. Ride for an hour n instant Hot Dogs for everyone!!! ,,, not sure why I wrote that David,,, maybe some kind of twisted self defense or something,,,, think Tip n I should move to Jerome - might be time to suck in that BEAUTIFUL dry heat out there!! I do LOVE the desert too!!:cool10::cool10::cool10:

Never had the pleasure of owning a Vision but did help a buddy with some carb work on one years ago. The slide/diaphrams in his looked awefully similar to those in my MK1's and I would not be surprised to find out Mom Yam did a little parts sharing between the two. If you end up with the bike and need those parts or are having a problem with hesitation on throttle up, maybe do some comparison between parts if you find you need them. Also, maybe doing the needle height shimming like we do on the V-4's to fatten it up a little.. I know,, confusing BUT - might be some relevance, maybe,,, PS - it goes without saying - I REALLY like the looks of these "baby Ventures".. Definitely a style I like:Cartoon_397:

MAJOR congrats Rick on the retirement and on the move brother!! Hope you folks find exactly the place your looking for down yonder and that your retirement years are nothing but the GREATEST!!!
-
EXACTLY my experience!! Back when I was a kid I was so broke I couldn't pay attention and had to do EXACTLY what you two lop eared varmints are talking about!! Then one day I learned to "hop cars" (hide behind a snowbank, grab the rear bumper and slide on the icy pavement) = straightened those hills right out!!
-
Wishing you all the very best Raggy on this upgrade!! Hopefully it works out! Please keep us updated as to how it goes brother! PS - I been using "gmail" for my e-mail services for a good while now and have found that by doing so I dont have to switch email stuff around in the event of switching service providers. My current provider (Frontier) offers free email stuff but I avoid them just for that purpose.
