Ironically, I have had exactly that happen more than once Snype and both times were with me playing with Iridium plugs. My Ventures have ALL "favored" good ol NGK standard plugs. I will normally gap to the tight side of .032 so as the plugs wear and the gap widens it's still in spec. A little attention to not over choking so I dont blacken the plugs and its amazing how many miles I can get out of a set of "stock" plugs. Truly, I never did have any luck with Iridiums or other non stock NGK's.. Funny thing is too,, I raced and woods rode a KX500 for many years and that scoot was the same way - being a 2 stroke one would thing the smaller electrode on the iridium plug would be just the ticket to keep from fouling - didnt work = had the same thing going on with it with 10 $ a plug iridium - idle was funky and throttle response not as crisp = stock NGK = run like a top.. Kind of wonder if that iridium electrode was more fitting for high output auto ignition or something:confused24:

Well,,, I dont usually voice my opinion unless asked, but when asked I tend to give my own opinion regardless of how it fits (gets me into trouble sometimes) so Orlin,, now that you ask - here's my opinion .. I think we should skip the having shirts made up and instead have a "shirt signing time".. People could bring a spare shirt of their choice and we could have a time set aside for all attendee to sign.. May sound corny but my absolute FAVORITE of all shirts hanging in my closet are my "signed" shirts,,,,,,, again - just one of those IMHO.. If Tweeksis, Tip n I are able to make this one - I am gonna bring along a small bottle of ink cause I wanna a goat track or two on my shirt:happy34: as well as the "normal" lop eared VR varmint signage .. Ya know compadre' - this would make an EXCELLENT "Poll" question!!! Sorry brother, waivers and registration forms I dont have... If I had some I'd gladly mail em to ya brother!!!
-
If it were mine the first thing I would do is remove the cables from the battery. clean them really well (and the battery posts too), put them back on - tighten em down and try it....

I have done a fair amount of building/tuning the V-Twins BUT mostly Harley. Reason being, HD is one of the only manufacturers that has maintained a HUGE support for that cause. Even the now defunct Victory line never did come up with a "race tuner" that offered the parameters necessary for getting a good tune after investing time n money in cams, pistons, headwork, crank welding, pipes and on and on. Without a decent tuner - it's kind of all for naught IMHO.. Harley (and the aftermarket suppliers thereof) REALLY does a GREAT job of offering all the good stuff necessary for the modern day gearhead to build till the heart is content - IMHO.. Interesting you mention V-Max ride characteristics in this post.. I am right there with ya brother - one of the things I really never appreciated about my old V-Max (name was Crud) was exactly that - was no flogging that puppy in the twisties I tell ya!! I did have thoughts and intent of someday building a Maxed out Venture but ran out of time on my personal health meter.. I wonder if your need to build for speed and need to be able to "ride" what ya got wouldnt be more satisfied by following that trail? One thing about it, if ya did that there would be endless technical advice found in the heads of this group of lop eared varmints!!!!

Chew talkin bout Willis? Aint no Meet - Greet n Eat Meat I was ever involved in that Skidder aint been invited to bro!!!! Maybe we had some miscommunicatin happening cause I am sure the I made it CLEAR that ALL club members were always welcome!! I always plan for 12000 plus people because of that with the Hot Dog count and, so far, aint no one ever did go away hungry brother!!! Tell ya what, you n that side kick of yours have GOT to make the trip up here = learn what makes these Puc dogs so special AND get a chance to ride some of the purdiest riding known to man!!!!!
-
Nahhh,, not problem laughing = and :crackup:is a way of life brother = keep up the good work!! Kind of a strange thing though,,,, more like my "surgery" pains of pretty much disappeared and I have switched over to pin point pains so to speak. Definitely possible they are linked to "over compensating" Jeff. POINT VERY WELL TAKEN!! Hope in the end I don't have to compensate on my biking skills - I sure would hate to have to learn to ride "side saddle" = it seems like it took me FOREVER to learn to ride like a normal person - Lord only knows how long it would take to learn side saddle!!
-
Not me buddy,, if I cant con,, on mean get it one a straight up bet as to when the bugs meeting his 72 Virgins - I dont want one :rotfl:!!!! ,,, Raggy,, you did double check Stinky and make sure he wasnt just in a deep sleep didnt cha? Thinking an autopsy may be in order here - I mean,, after all,,, look whats at stake!!!!!
-
INDEED = RIP STINKY!!! ,,, must be something wrong with me inside,,,,, I actually feel sorry for me more than ol Stinky,,,, I was REALLY looking forward to scamming an ice cream cone from Raggy out of this one ... Oh well,,, guess the moral of the story is, never trust a stink bug when it comes to winning the bet for an ice cream cone ..

"ROSIE" = PERFECT (IMHO),, I really think she's gonna LOVE it Odie!!! I have spent a fair amount of time on an assortment of the Twin Cam's (have owned, buy/sell, a few of them too - including an 03 88" that I stuck a gear driven supercharger on = FUN!!) and gotta say - Harley has come a LONG way's working the shakes out of the 45 degree V-Twin. Compared to the Shovel Head days that I grew up in = wayyyyy better and NOTHING like the familiar "buzz" of the parallel twins (grew up on Honda 350 Motosports).. I think they have about perfected production crank balancing and hit it pretty close on their piston matching too. Also, modern ignition and injection helps a lot IMHO.. Using a compensator on the crank has helped a ton too as does belt drive. They some how have driven that old school "shake" right down to the bottom R's and, again, being an old school Shovel fool = I gotta say,, very smooth once off idle - IMHO.. Still gotta lock tight em out if ya split em apart to drop cams or some head work on em though!! Only thing I really dont care for about this newer stuff is some of the loss of that familiar "tater dee tater dee tater dee" cause ya cant get em idle low enough - part of the disadvantage of having EFI and being a carb guy I rekon.. Havent had a chance to ride a new "8" yet Odie.. Not been feeling best the last bit of time and totally missed the opportunity to test ride one when the local dealership had demo days at season end last year = REALLY REALLY wanted to though!! Snype, yea,, that sure sounds like the ever popular - BEST SELLER - Street Glide you be talking about = SHARP SCOOTS!! So sharp that HD has been able to bag top dollar out of em for eeee - ons!! I remember a few years ago getting into a discussion with one of our local HD salesmen (guys my neighbor - knows I love to motorcycles and hang out at "the shop").. Sticker on the Streetglide matched the Electra Glide sitting next to it - got lookin, SG had same frame/motor = same basic bike only was missing the tour pak (2000 dollars worth of parts) and some other stuff. Told the salesmen I was SHOCKED more folks didnt buy the EG - strip it and save the parts in case they ever needed em.. He laughed and said "thats cause most new bike buyers dont "think" like you do:missingtooth:.. Gotta another neighbor (really good friend) who has a gorgeous 2010 Ultra Limited that I helped build the motor on when it was brand new. We also stuck a detachable tour pak kit on it. Now he rides the thing more with out the pak than with and, I gotta tell ya,,, his "bagger" is one of the sharpest "Street Glide" looking baggers ya ever did see!! We massaged it out to 105 horse and 103 foot pounds on the dyno and it FLIES too!! PLUS - he can instantly snap on his OEM color matched tour pak and presto change o" - instant touring scoot!!! GOOD GRIEF ODIE - THAT ROSIE IS SO PRETTY SHE ALMOST MAKES MY EYES HURT FOR STARING AT HER

I gotta tell you guys something about my personality type,, I really dont respond so well to Fryin Pan therapy - just never did .. On the other hand,, OUCHY OUCH OUCH OUCH = Randy,, that story makes me :95:for ya brother = OUCH!!!! Sorry to read this but SO glad you got thru it all my friend!!! Stuff that like right there,, now THAT I learn from:thumbsup: - THANKS FOR SHARING THAT!! Strange thing about all this stuff, into week 2 of recovery and it seems like I am going slightly backwards in my progress.. No idea what that means and nothing really bad going on - just considerably sorer than I was.. Must be some kind of delayed reaction thing or something.. Tip dont need no fry pan, even without Randy's explaination of what can happen = gonna lay low for a bit!!
-
must of been posting this while I was typing that last message WOWZY WOW WOW WOW = SHE IS GORGEOUS Ode - absolutely GORGEOUS!! CONGRATS!!! Better be thinkin of a name for her - dont want no opportunity for hard feelings to start setting in - treat er like part of the family and she'll do the same (IMHO)!! Ya know,, NO ONE,, I MEAN NO ONE paints a scoot like those folks at Harley - them boys got it down!!!!!
-
A HUGE and a GIANT WOWZY WOW WOW WOW to ya Odie!!!! Thank you also for addressing the 's issue so the dont have to be called in = CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE HER!!!! Buddy traded in his 2012 Ultra Limited on "The Low" last fall = = gorgeous scoot!! I have already spent a little time on it (got a BUNCH of gear heads around here - we are always stealing each others rides) = I am considerably taller than Dave - the owner of the low - and found the limited to fit me better. Tell ya what though - the low fits him to a T:thumbsup:!!! Gotta hand it to HD, they go ALL OUT to make that perfect fit happen!! Bottom line my friend, hope you folks enjoy the living day lights out of your new scoot - if it were ours we would ride that sweetheart till the wheels fell off - take er in for warranty wheels and start over (teach The Motor Company to sell me an unlimited miles extended warranty ) - hope you do the same!!!!! Now,, about those 's,,,,

83 venture vs royal
cowpuc replied to Matt_P's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Let's see if I can help some here and not mess up Bongo's EXCELLENT advice (IMHO) he has happening... Looking at the pic you provided Matt, notice the exposed bearings up in the triple tree in the pic? Those bearing needles will have an inner surface that they roll on and that circular surface will be mated onto the stem that runs top to bottom of the tree. Inside of the tube on the neck of your bike will be another set of those same surfaces where the outside portion of the needle bearings roll. The inners surfaces would be the inside races and the outer ones found inside of the neck are outer races. I have never needed a press for doing this work, usually come apart fairly easily. I have encountered some difficult races before and used my Dremel tool to carefully cut thru them to releave pressure (common with Timken's on auto wheel applications).. Some bearing surfaces that I have done in Tranny work and engine work have found a small press fairly handy but not always.. Also, there is a bearing puller that can be used (might check Auto Zone or even a tool rental place for a "borrow" if you find you need one).. I totally agree with Bob,, may as well go right thru it while ya got it down - NOTHING worse than a notchy neck bearing on a scoot - NOTHING like brand new and adjusted properly. Those black boxes are the electric solenoid fired anti-dives you may have heard of on the MK2's. Our MK1's use a hydraulic system for this. Never did the swap out and no idea if just leaving them unplugged will mess up your build. Personally, I have had MK1's with those anti dives covered = non functional and - with the addition of the Progressives (I have ran them on ALL my bikes = cant stand sacked springs) and a good 12.5 weight fork oil - never really missed em. Not even sure where to go with a grease suggestion.. I have used Mobile axle bearing grease for years and not even sure what it is - thinking its some kind Mono,,,something or another - can find out if one of the lube pro's around here dont jump in and set us straight.. Do know one thing,, if it were my bike and I was into it that far - I would also look very carefully about grease zerking the neck so you can push new grease in without removing the whole thing again.. Cant never have enough zerks I always figure!!! LOOKING GREAT - love where your going with getting GOOD brakes - all the best wishes with the project!! PS - no such thing as a dumb or stupid question!! Cant say the same about answers = hope Bongo or one of the other guru's jump in and correct any "dahh"'s I made in the above!! Puc -
As normal and as totally expected from a highly advanced intellect such as the creator of the Wisconsin White Washer - very well put Fool,,,,,,, BUT,, and in the spirit of "NOT SOOOOO FAST HERE",, so,,, from a basic gearheaded back yard mechanic type - I must reply,,,,,,,, not so fast!!!!!!!!!! Lets say I had a 30 pound box of Venture parts on the garage floor that I needed to put on my work bench and I was on a 10 pound weight lift restriction... While lacking somewhat in cognitive cause n effect techniques like you so elequently stated I do know that the doctors had to have had a pretty good reason for the weight restriction (your input sounded VERY good brother!!).. What I would do is take a small pulley and hook it to the rafter above the box, tie one end on the box and then wrap the other end around and under my butt. Then I would use my weight to "sit down" and lift the box to where I needed it. This would not only accomplish the task of moving the box BUT, by your definition, I would be relaxing - not contracting - my muscles so I should, in theory, be helping myself heal faster by moving the box. Dont feel to bad that you got outsmarted this time Fool, this is the kind of reasoning that has got me out of trouble many times with Tippy and should you ever get a chance to meet her IRL - she can verify it if needed:happy65:!!! Will agree with one thing for absolute sure though,,, that Surgeon didnt even bat an eye when he climbed on top of me - drapped a towel over my abdomen - grab it by the ends and started messaging my lungs to inflate em - I looked him in the eyes and firmly reminded him that that HURT LIKE CRAZY!!!!! He looked right back at me and said - it's gonna!!! Would indeed not like to test his resolve of figuring out a way to give me a little something special if I messed up his work:doh:
-
:rotfl: I know brother - I can be such a dork wad sometimes and I dont even have to work at it :rotfl: I think I found the vid your talking about, fast forward to 1:10 if ya dont wanna watch the whole thing and watch how I mess up that precious Sue's intro so bad!! Thankfully she is such a forgiving, easy going person = took it all in stride and even kept coming back for more Rallies and even out to the house a number of times!! Tip n I LOVE that Sue!!!

If it hits 50 here on the Lake Michigan shoreline on Sunday this week, I am gonna drag Tweeks out by her horns and make her take me around the block:happy34:!! As far as learning to live on Seal,, no problembo - cant be any worse than greasy Racoon or Possum like me n my grandpa used to digest!!!!! Besides, ground up into a Hot Dog - probably pretty tasty!!!

So you guys,,, Dan,,, is that "Earl" the same guy as the famous "Skydoc" who has helped so many around here.. I am wayyyy terrible with names and connecting them with people I have met = MAJOR flaw in my charecter - but if pushed in a corner and had to guess,, I have a hunch that he is Skydoc.. Gotta be careful with all that though cause i once got busted for calling,,,, I think it was USA1 (Mike?) "Earl" getting stuff all must up... :scratchchin:It's not easy being a Puc I tell ya!!!
-
The high speed lense of Patricia's camera did in fact catch a look alike image of what most of believe to be "Yammer" - Barrycuda mentioned this phenominom earlier and I concurred = if Yammer is in that pic, he is on the far right of the photo to the right of my dear friend Barry.. One can never really be absolutely sure about Yammer Dan though,,,, its very difficult to make an absolute fact of something when that something (or someone in this case) really has a hard time with self identification!!
-
ABSOLUTELY NOT NEEDED BROTHER!!! Dont even bother risking a walk out to the shed to mix the Chems - Tips got me collared and hog tied and gives me the evil eye on an hourly basis - no need to mix it up brother!!!! PS - sooooo glad to hear of your "release"!!! Looking more n more like you n I may actually be able to pull off a little International or MD this year:fingers-crossed-emo!!! Got a lot of catching up to do!!!
-
WOWZY WOW WOW WOW:doh:!!! Linking arms with Randy and offering Prayers Up for all affected by this!!! WOW that is a LOT of rain!!

Comparing notes here DanL and taking all this advice about being careful seriously.. I know they had to reattach what was left of my urethea (tube that pee flows thru).. So,, yesterday I am on the phone yacking with my neighbor (phone weighs way less than 10 pounds ), get this strange overwhelming need to go.. Told him I had to hang up - NOW.. Go in the potty and pushed a little,, got fairly long stringy blood clot thingy to come out = wow was that strange.. The doc told me I may get episodes like that so really not scary but still,, ok,, kinda still scary..... Back when I was avidly bow hunting, I would shimmy a tree, climb up there to 30 or 40 feet, pull my bow up, stand on a 2' x 2' board on a home made stand, turn backwards so the tree was in front of me so I could shoot off sided and stand with my heels hanging off the board = total confidence. Now adays with all this stuff happening - my inner balance is so messed up - having happen to me what happened to you n Silver aint so far fetched Dan... Will DEFINITELY heed the warning brother!!
-
I KNOW bro - wouldnt it be an absolute blast!!!
-
WOWZY that was fun!!!! Not only got to witness some pretty healthy and fun loving from a GREAT bunch of lop eared Wing eating Rum Ball munchin varmints - also had the pleasure of getting to hear from Mrs. Vicco - That was awesome!!!!! It was interesting that the flow somehow seemed to be tied with the bike types all rode in.. The 1st Gen riders were there in droves, followed closely by the slower 2nd Gen's. Later in the evening, as Mirider mentioned, the Harley riders (Dave, your not a lone mirage out there on Candy = BJ rides a GORGEOUS Road Glide an he came in late too) were a ways behind.. Its to bad too cause I KNOW for a fact that those Twin Cams can be tuned to 105 horse at the real wheel fairly easily (little head work, cams, pipes and a now illegal race turner) and WOWZY = no more being late = probably run somewhere between the 1st n 2nd Gen Ventures ... It was GREAT gang = lets do it again soon!! PS - Fool,,,, sorry about leaving no crumbs for ya,,,, Mama's cooking dont leave much room for left overs - even in the form of crumbs:rasberry: :bighug::bighug:
