  1. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW = TOTALLY AWESOME BROTHER!!!!!:dancefool::dancefool: OP is kinda busy on the 15th,,,, wonder if he would turn us in for vagrancy if, on his way out for work on the morning of the 15th of July he noticed a few lop eared auction going VR biker varmints camped at the end of his driveway:Laugh: Stick our heads out of the tents and wave at em on his way out the driveway = sure sounds like a RIOT!!! PS: probably should bring the car/trailer - I see a 45 inch flat head Harley:Bunny2: and side hacked 46 Indian Chief:Bunny2: that I would LOVE to drag home!!!!! Also LOVE those micro cars - would LOVE to land an "Urkle Car" Your right bossman - wish I was wealthy too!!
  2. Thanks Boss - I am sure the wise and mighty Mr. Owl will greatly appreciate it.. Something just occurred to me, I am not a Facebooker and forgot to try and post this over there so our members who Facebook and dont get on the site here have a chance to participate in this group card.. If you wouldnt mind and happen to see reference to this thread posted in the wrong place on Facebook - would you mind putting it where ever it is suppose to be placed over there? I have a tendency of messing this kind of stuff up sometimes (thinking of those I messed up on those "get well video's" we did for Dan ),, may be worth a moment to look over my shoulder if ya dont mind!!! ***** on a side note,,, I think I found the PERFECT envelope and protective cover to put our Group Get Well Greeting in gang ...
  3. There's a varmint in our Club named @zagger who did an AWESOME job of Chopping one, Zag's bike has a custom front end and some top notch - one off - very creative other features too.. I have always been a long bike Chopper fanatic myself, built a number of them (never a Venture though - always wanted to but never took the time) from Harley's and 750 Honda's - just never got into the bobber end.. Thinking you may find dropping the back end fairly easy by building a set of custom mono linkages - still be able to have rear suspention.. Of course, hard tailing is always an option.. Tank wise, with the bike already wired for a fuel pump - you could literally move the tank anywhere you wanted.. Pull the sub frame, remove the stock tank - open that area up and put a drop seat on springs down there in the hollow. As far as bars go - you can put "clip ons" on anything with forks or,,, a simply swap out to conventional bar mounts looks way doable to me.. Personally though - I have really come to like the custom look and design of the stock Venture bars (1st Gen).. Cleaned up and simplified a little so the pivot joints and major engineering designs of that piece work can easily been seen would look AWESOME on a Bobber IMHO... Ditch the fake cover over the battery, move the battery down below, disgard the airbox and either run pods or stacks. Built a set of drag pipes for one of my Ventures one time. made the pipes out of thin wall chain link fence pipe. took some tin - drew out a set of "fish tails" on it - cut it out and welded the fins together - banged the ends of the pipes in a little and welded on the fins - "tuned" the pipes by bending the fins together to get a little back pressure. Was amazed at how well they tuned out in the end = bike sounded AWESOME!! Even the Sturgis Harley riders were jealous of that beat up ol 200k mile Venture when I pinned it and they could hear it over their Big Twins!!! NOTHING sounds sweeter than a small block v-4 revving out when it is opened up so it can breath!!! Loose the front fender and you can get a LOT bigger tire on there.. Not gonna anything on the back end though by loosing the rear fender - swing arm space is limiting factor BUT - you will end up with pretty much a matching set of larger (150's maybe) tires by loosing the front tire. Ditching the fairing is gonna be somewhat challenging cause of all the lectrics happening under there.. aint no where near enough room in a headlight bucket to hide the stuff.. Also gonna be challenging swapping out the dash board cause a lot happening there too.. Thinking if it were me, I would build a custom electrical box with all the goodies in it - maybe mount it forward on the frame like to look like an old oil cooler like we had on our shovels.. Could also do something similar for a fuel tank - those tool boxes on the WLA's could be redesigned - enlarged and end up with a fuel bag that would look like a tool kit from the day.... I gotta a massive collection of Easy Rider mags from days gone by - lots of custom scoots in em.. I get a chance I will thumb thru em and see if anyone has done a bob similar to what your talking.. Most of that stuff is Harley based but hey,, ya never know! If you do decide to go forward with a bobbed Venture, you may wanna consider joining us as a club member here!! Lots and lots of really sharp people with many years of experience on the Yam V-4's.. Probably find this bunch of misfits an invaluable wealth of info for what your about to do!! Either way though, glad you found us, good job of for a first post and WELCOME to VR!! Puc
  4. ROCK ON!! If that happens David, ya oughta grab yourself 40 foot of shoreline and a sky hook - maybe help that varmint unload his scoot so he dont take another shot at hurtin himself!!! Being the professional camera man that ya are brother - we'll be specting lots and lots of great 's of the two of you and your bikes should any of the above take place:missingtooth: - another 1 from our list of who's who behind those masks!!!!
  5. I am hearing ya brother!! Just cant get my head around belt or chain drive for longgggggggggggg distance CTFW fun - sort of a step back in time and way to spoiled by my experiences having worn out 5 shaft drive 83's... On the other side of that coin though,,,, it is sort of disconcerting to know that Honda REALLY took a HUGE shot at the "shaft drive, water cooled, Big Twin" with that VTX1800 and it just didnt work (lousy seller). Have seen LOTS of em on the used market for cheap!! Maybe a full blown fixed fairing version of such a gritter would be able to compete,, for some reason I have my reservations about it.. Bottom line though for me (like you),, I would have NO PROBLEM putting such a sweetheart to the test cause I am always open to easier maintenance, be rid of the carb issues, loving on the sound of V-Twin and feeling the freight train like TORQUE of a massive pistoned Big Twin water cooled Mom Yam Venture!! ,,,, Mom Yam - if your reading this,,,,,,,, would rather have a 175 horse, 1700cc, V-4 V-max motored 3rd Gen Venture though ,,, I have seen a picture of that lop eared varmint before,,,,,,,,, isnt he one of our Club members?
  6. Remembering that little one in thoughts and prayers again today Rooster!! Thanks again for keeping us updated on how he is doing brother!!! LOVE WINS!! Puc
  7. :sign Rock On::sign Rock On::sign Rock On::sign Rock On: and Doug - next time we bump into each other at a Rally,,, remind me to compare notes with you and tell you HOW MUCH FUN I AM HAVING FULFILLING THE CALLING OF THAT SHIRT BROTHER!!! Doing my very best to find my place with all my "Papa" brothers who have traveled that route before me:grandpa:!!! Here is a recent narrative between Tip n I of last week: Tip on Monday: How would you feel about me going down and helping Becky (Sam's mom = our daughter) for an overnighter.. Puc: I know what cha mean,, The Kid kinda grows on ya dont he,,, I feel the same way - like every time ya look at em ya love em more.. Tip: Becky said she can really use the help.. Puc: If I wasnt in the middle of recovering from that surgery I would move in down there.. Tip: So you think you could survive around here for a couple days if I went down and played with,,, I mean helped out daughter.. Puc: ahhh yea,, matter of fact,,,, I will take you down there,,,, give me some rockin chair time with The Kid too!! 4 days later: Becky: THANKS Mom for cleaning the house, doing the dishes, changing his diapers, washing the clothes and cooking dinner... Thanks Dad for rockin Sam!! Tip n Puc: Your welcome sweetheart - see you next week (as we are walking out the door).. Becky: ummmm,, arent you forgetting something oh father of mine? Puc: ,, ,,,, Becky: Sam,, ya gotta give em back,, ya dont get to keep em Puc: Puc to Sam as I hand em back to my daughter: We'll keep playing that tune till we get it right buddy!! By the way oh daughter of mine, ya might wanna check his diaper,, I think my buddy just left a surprise in there FOR HIS MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. LOVE IT!!!! Right there with ya Bum ,,, I always called em Weed Eaters,,, never really bothered me much to have em around (but,, I wasnt trying to provide for my family by running an awesome specialty meat shop like Carl with Weed Eaten neighbors either) cause I always figured - the more weeds they eat,, the more meat there was for me to hunt/kill/and DEVOUR!!
  9. shoot - that aint nothin brother,, I recently tried to convince Yammer Dan that his shaft drive Maxim was chain driven:yikes: Swear to great gods of the brotherhood of the wrench my friend - someone switched the final drive's on all those Maxims during the years cause in my mind - they came from the factory chain driven Bottom line brother - good thing we live so far apart cause if us confused wrench spinners lived closer together in bunch,,,,, well,,, your a Vet,, you know all about that "one granade" philosophy
  10. Ok Red,, seems how you continue to be open for more brain strain - here's a couple more items accumlated from my short time of torturing the 83's.. I have found new pads dont always fit the calipers as they should. Bottom line - once installed, pads should hang freely on the pins and move effortlessly between the edges of the caliper where they ride. I usually take a file and clean edges of the pad backing (even have to remove paint from new pad edges at times to get good results) and clean the caliper housing where the pads ride. Bottom line - sticky pad contact can cause brake hangup enough to get the system into an overheat and result in a total lockup.. Another thing to look at is that little springy thingy cover that slips under the pins and rides on top of the pads. Make sure that is in good shape and back together correctly - if memory serves me correctly - the long end of that keeper goes forward. Here is an interesting bit of info,, maybe,, maybe not.. If your pads were wearing at an angle or having sticking problems all along (just being sensitive) - its possible that your bike's rear pig was not aligned properly from the factory. Back in the day, Mom Yam offered an angular shim to adjust this alignment. basically the shim was placed at the end of the swingarm/drive shaft housing to bring the pig into alignment.. Also remember,, there is no return spring pulling the caliper pistons away from the pads - all your have there is a backing off of hydraulic pressure. Just like automotive disc brake's - there will remain a slight amount of contact between pads and rotor even in the best of situations. To help gain a "feel" for what I am talking about - you could raise the bikes front end, spin the front wheel and stop it with the front brake and then spin it lightly to feel the pad drag - now take a rubber mallet and smack the caliper(s) to fully release the piston contact on the pads and spin it again - check it out,, you may be surprised at the "normal" amount of drag present.. Couple that with the resistance to "free spinning" that the drive shaft components produce at the rear wheel and you will easily get a fair amount of drag back there.. Just a heads up for you guys so your not fighting something that is "normal".. ,,, any of that make any sense?
  11. All though you are a joker at times Robin - you are definitely NOT "THE JOKER" - just not diabolical enough in your jokerisms... By the way,, thanks for your assistance in the for our pursuit of truth, integrity, honesty, and standing against all those evil ,, ,, who continue to undermine us or bury is in many feet of Wisconsin White Wash!!! -1 from the list of who's who!!!! That fly in the ointment Flyinfool (aka mr. Freeze) DEFINITELY has ice for blood!!! It's Buyer Beware when dealing with that one Boy Wonder!!
  12. Bump for that even bigger that all your well wishing will put Black Owls mug!!!! Not trying to be pushy or nuttin like that but times running out on this grand opportunity ya bunch of lop eared varmints - PLEASE get your responses in here brothers n sisters!!! We got a family member in need!! Freebird,,, hey Boss - thinking about a "cover page" for the "get well book" these club members are writing. Is it ok to use that really cool Club emblem (the one that has "lifes a venture - get on and ride" on it) as part of that cover page or would I be put back on probation for violating a copyright rule if I did that? *****Also, I'm not the most creative lop eared varmint when it comes to this puter stuff - if anyone reading this would like to design and include/post a "cover page" herein - I would be happy to print it and use it as such!! Hang in there with us Black Owl - we's a coming brother!!!
  13. Sounds like a really good plan Snype, I get back to feeling normal again - that is something I would enjoy doing! Like most of the other lop eared "Brothers Of The Wrench" varmints around here - I love finding out whats behind door number 3!! That said, if you do decide to seek stated adventure brother, ya might do so with caution! If there really is high pressure Nitrogen Gas contained within that puppy - trying to pull the shock apart without releasing that gas could have similar results as pulling the pin on a hand granade before trying to dismantle it!!!! On another note, Besides supplying us with one heck of scoot, Larry (Carbon One,, the fine young man who I purchased our new 83 from)also passed along a lifetime collection of paperwork that the previous owner (who was definitely a gearhead) to Larry had accumulated - stacks of stuff! I get time here, I will dig thru that paperwork and see if I can find anything out about the rear mono. I know that previous owner to larry (racking my brain hear I mean HERE, trying to remember his screen name - think it was "DenDen") purchased and installed a new Progressive Rear Shock on Tweeksis - would(n't) surprise me one bit to find info about all this somewhere in that 3 foot stack of paperwork!!!!
  14. Now THAT'S what I am talking about brother = absolutely, undeniably, 100% TOTALLY awesome Grandpa MiRider:thumbsup::clap2: What a gorgeous family my friend = ya done been blessed!!!:dancefool: and yeppers,, thinking those shirts would sell like hot cakes with all us baby boomers living the high life of playing with the Grandkids!!
  15. Thanks for the info Teeg and THANK YOU for the congrats on "The Kid"!! Come by and have a Hot Dog with us sometime TJ!! He was 3 weeks early (a pre-premie), not even a week old yet and already scowl's when his grumpy Grandma tells him stuff like "you probably should learn to walk before Grandpa teaches ya to ride that mini bike he bought cha".. Smart kid and VERY good judge of charector!!
  16. Yep,,, Bruce,,,,, Bruce Wayne here,,, made it in plenty of time to wish Rbig1 a very fun, safe and adventureous trip out there!!! Good turnout - even got to with the Joker, the Penquin and Mr. Freeze some - Cat Woman was gone when I got there and she was sorely missed !!! I will leave it up to all you lop eared varmints to figure out who's who behind all those varmints are behind those masks but rest assured - the Caped Crusader did ya'll right again!!!
  17. You got it Rooster - PRAYERS CONTINUE GOING UP FOR THAT LITTLE ONE!!!!!!
  18. Awe,, thanks brother!! And sure hope he grows up soon enough that you and I can take em out and teach em the ropes of becoming a drinker of the wind my friend!!!!!!
  19. ,,,,,, yes you did bro - yes you did!! TOTALLY!!!!:cool10: XJ = Yammer nailed it brother - maybe you should reconsider - look how fast things can get out of hand around here when left following our own advice!!
  20. ABSOLUTELY BROTHER:thumbsup::thumbsup: THAT RIGHT THERE SAYS IT ALL MY GOOD MAN!!! ,,,,, wait a second,,, wait just a second,, having me one of those epiphany thingys ,,,,, screen print it on matching sleeveless biker tee shirts for KidPuc and me,,, all I gotta do is add "Like Mine" under "Grandfathers" on The Kids shirt and we'll be all set brother!! I like it Dave = NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just take a real close read on what's going up in The Kids nursery and on our matching shirts ya lop eared Canuckian varmint :rasberry::rasberry::rasberry: ,,, he is a cute little future ice cream nipper aint he brother ,,, sure am glad he took after his mommy who took after her mommy cause I gotta tell ya - the thought of any other way kinda skeers me too
  21. LOOKING GREAT BROTHER:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::clap2:... Any chance you may have tried loading in backward so you could drive it out? Completely doable with the winch... Couple ideas for unloading down yonder - if you can find a ditch, high spot or even a curb to put your ramps on for unloading = makes it much easier - I have a high spot along the road in front of my house that I have used many many times to ramp full sized bikes up into trucks (even lifted ones) with - works great!! Always make sure that pin you got on the nose of the ramp is secure when unloading - great move pinning it Rodney:thumbsup2:. Another thought - if ya get where your going and its any where near a group of these lop eared VR varmints you could call for a Meet n Greet and then trick everybody into helping you unload (that's what I would do )... I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for ya Rbig!! Cant wait to hear the trail tales of you CTFW!!!! DONT FORGET YOUR ,,,,,,,,, those desert region states are LOADED with !!!! Your ol buddy Puc
  22. Got a link, business name or a phone number Teeg? Buddy mentioned to me again the other day that he is still thinking of picking up an "Octane"? Was talking about it last year at our Bike Time festival, he said recently he found one - brand new - in South Dakota for 5800 bucks (guess thats less than half price?) - maybe a quick call to the people who sent you the sale info would save em some money - if nothing else = shipping... Tell ya one thing brother,, I test rode a Vision 8 Ball a couple years ago - nicked named the "Weeble" (weebles will wobble but they wont fall down) because of its AMAZING stability - told the sale guy all motorcycles should ride that stable!!! If a guy could grab one of those puppies brand new for a few grand - it would almost be worth taken the risk to see if Polaris will actually come thru on their 10 year promise .... Thinking I maybe should not have invested so heavily in Medical Technology recently :big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon::big-grin-emoticon:
  23. Still praying for you little one - YOU are loved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Hey ya gull durned lop eared wing dinging snow flinging varmint - Sam wanted me to tell ya he and I are tighter than the end gag on a piston ring end on a freshly built CR500 - he said he will try to get a good Kidpucin dirty diaper going at 8:00 pm tomorrow night so as to give his Grandpappy a break from all the fun we been having = see if we can con his mother into performing her parental duties at that time:missingtooth::missingtooth: Definitely,, absolutely POSITIVELY positive - had I known this I would have had "The Kid" first!! Will do my bestest to be there Mama!! I just got home here from visiting the new Grandbaby - I left Tip (she is downright sucking down every moment she can with her first born Grandchild - (GO TIPPY - GO TIPPY - GO TIPPY ) down there. Its about 3 hours to their home (just rolled in here myself) and I may have to roll back down there tomorrow - I highly suspect not but if my daughter kicks her out I gotta go get her .. Anyway, will do my bestest to check in at the party Sister = THAT RODNEY/RBIG1 IS GOOD BUDDY OF MINE = GOTTA GIVE HIM THE BIGGEST AND BESTEST SEND OFF POSSIBLE!!!! PS Mama = thoughts and Prayers Up for that Daughter of yours and for your journey/time down there!! Please give her a :bighug:for Tip and I and let her know we are thinking of and praying for her!!!
