@Freebird Thanks Boss!! Another one of things I always found challenging with the old sites tagging system was trying to figure out to tag people with a space in their name,, for some reason brother Murph always got me on that one.. It seems like any time I ran into one of those situations I would end up with multiple versions of the varmints screen name with everything from a space between their names as shown in their actual screen names followed by a series of "@'s" with that space being filled with those symbols found on the number keys and it was not unusual to still not be able to get anything to work . I, for one, REALLY like this new set up!! THANK YOU SIR, YOUR WORK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Another thing I found challenging was when working with my signature found on the bottom of each of my posts.. For some reason it seemed like I always ran out of space LOL.. This new contraption you have employed for the clubs enjoyment is much better IMHO.. Much more user friendly, again, IMHO.. I like it Don,, GOOD CHOICE, GOOD JOB!! Thanks again! Puc

Hi Kev!! THANK YOU for your time in responding to the question about the punch mark,, although sort of a let down cause I was really hoping there was some truth to the whole idea that Mom Yam may actually have had a recall on the tranny, in my heart I suspected your answer. The fact based truth is always still appreciated.. Now I am wondering though if maybe the Canadian bikes got different attention? Is that a possibility from your experience? Concerning "DenDen" and the info I have that he gathered about the bike.. Is there something I may have that you would like me to take pics of so you would have access to it? Larry ( @Carbon_One ), who is a good friend of mine and who was steward over Tweeksis between DenDen and myself, forwarded all DenDens info gathering work to me when I purchased her from him. I did actually call DenDen's home phone (I found his number on numerous reciepts) to thank him for all his attention to detail. Do to health issues on his behalf at the time I did not get to speak directly to him but was ablei to speak to his wife who told me she would pass on the huge "THANK YOU" I offered to him. The only thing missing in all the paperwork that Larry gave me is an Owners Manual for a 2nd Gen that I found in DenDen's Paperwork. After checking with Larry and getting the thumbs up, I forwarded that Manual to another one of the clubs members (another friend of mine named @videoarizona I believe, who is also a lop eared VR club member) who I noticed was in need of one. My plan is/was for all of Tweeksis's paperwork that DenDen gathered to remain with her as it is all such a great part of her history. While I have shipped a LOT of her sisters parts (the original Tweeks) all over the world by donating them to those in need so she could still be found, even if in pieces, still out CTFW - I have no interest or plans of doing the same with Tweeksis. It appears that she will be our last and final Venture, a perfect #6.. On another note, I noticed this earlier and passed it on to @VentureFar in another thread and he thanked me for it so I will pass it on to you. Perhaps @Freebird should pin this message so it gets noticed.. When you use the "@" symbol to summons your favored club member you can no longer just type in the @ and then the name. That wont work.. You have to type the @ and then watch under where you are typing and click on the name you want from the selection of names that will appear, after doing so the varmints name you are summoning will appear highlighted in your text.. In other words, @Prairiehammer does not = @Prairiehammer now.. Its a simple change, and actually a welcome one cause it makes trying to figure out how to summons people with spaces in their screen names simple, but one that probably everyone should be made aware of. Just an FYI brother.. Always a pleasure! Puc

This is enlightening,, have any of you lop eared varmints ever seen another MK1 1st Gen with punch marks indicating the tranny was repaired? One of my 6 had the Punch Marks but also had a failed 2nd gear tranny in it. It did have the upgraded Stator oil bath though so I was under the impression that the punch marks were to indicate the Stator update.. Does any one know if there was a recall on the tranny? If so, that is new news to me and great news!! A friend of mine owned the Yamaha Dealership here in Muskegon (Boston Motors) and I remember him having gobs of updated stator splasht plates to perform the updates on the MK1's with but do not recall him even mentioning having the same for the tranny. Lets get @Prairiehammer involved in this and see what he thinks.. Kevin knows a lot about this stuff.. I also have all the recall info associated with the MK1's that came with Tweeksis - her previous owner (person named DenDen) did a remarkable job of gathering info. I will take a peek if I get some time and see if I can find out anything there.. Wow,, I feel,, I feel,,, YOUNG AGAIN learning something new here if its true!!

Lookin good there Mr. Nelson, lookin good!! As far as west Michigans lake shore, mow shmow,, how bout s&*w? Fool thought he had me on that one 😛 !! My mowing has been done for month now and about 40% of our leaves are down. We are now in the phase of the battle between the leafs and fools WWW.. Twice now we have been covered with WWW but,, you know Jeff he likes to tease and not send enough to nock down the rest of the leafs. This leaves everyone here wondering if our raking/blowing techniques are going to have to start including raking and blowing up in the trees where the bulk of the leaves remain if we dont want to end up with an unrakeable, unblowable leaf disastor come spring.

Forgive me if I am asking this way to soon as these are issues just not addressed yet @Freebird OR if these items missing are just another one of my still learning where stuff is located, but I am curious.. Are our "Friends List" that use to be located in our profile area and being able to befriend someone a thing of the past? Also, what is the new "followers" item in our profiles, is that the new Friends List? Also, the same question concerning VR Honor Badges honoring those who have served and also our clubs Award process for honoring members special accomplishments. Are these items something in the making Boss or a thing of the past? Also,, are we still able to PM a member.. Thanks! Brain dead Puc

Thumping from the floor boards
cowpuc replied to dragonstorm's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Double check your tire air pressures with a gauge, do not depend on your TPMS if you have one. Check the tires when they are cold, what pressures are you running and what pressure does it say on the tire(s) carcesses?. Are you by any chance running balancing beads or run flat or anything else inside the tire? Does it make a difference on what road/road surface you are riding on @dragonstorm? Try several road surfaces noting if there is a difference. If you look at the sidewall of the tire(s) where they meet the rim you will notice a raised edge on the tire, that is an alignment edge to show the mounter of the tire that the tire is mounted properly. Examine your tires and make sure that little edge is exposed all the way around the wheel so you know the tire is mounted properly. High speed, 70ish mph, "wobble, wonderings" are often attributable to neck bearing setting. Personally, I have my own method for setting neck bearings that is NOT "by the manual" that has served me well thru the years so I cannot speak to your torque spec for your bike BUT, you should be able to find that setting in a service manual. Is it possible that the dealership loosened or changed the neck bearing adjustment when he loosened all those bolts? Did you get a reciept of any form stating what was done? If so and it were mine I would look carefully on that receipt and see if such an adjustment was done. If so, it really might not be a bad idea to have that checked at another dealership as all dealership are not necessarily created equal,,, ALL IMHO of course.. Puc -

You are so much more than welcome brother! I am only part way thru this latest example of another one of your EXCELLENT reads!!! So far, both Tip and I agree,, that pic of you in that gorgeous orange helmet is the bestest part of all!!! That being, cause as you know, when ever her and I feel the need to yak while we ride I just tip my head back, look er in the eyes and say, HI HONEY - WHATS UP!! And if we need to listen to music we just set back with my head in her lap and sing some Willie or some good old gospel hymns.. And if Tweeks decides to take an emergency break to rest a flat tire or something,, I dont reach for no blue teeth thingy,, I reach for that great big nasty pair of 16 inch Channel Locks in her maintenance dept and scare away the road gremlins!! All that said though,, we are all three 100% enjoying the read!! THANK YOU for keeping us in the loop!! Love you! Tip, Tweeks and of course,, me,, your brother!! Puc- 5 replies

Hi Patch, would mind explaining what you meant by you "causing this to Poof?".. Thank you! Puc
-
As a club Moderator I think you can openly speak for others but in so doing, would you mind defining what was stated as a warning by a non Moderator @Marcarl? I think I understand what you are speaking of as "Poof" but am still unclear as to what @Patch was referring to.. Could you please explain for him?

Heyyyy,, look what the wind done blowed in Tip!! Hi ya sweet brother of mine!! How's life? Looks like you been REAL busy again producing another AWESOME read for us - GOOD ON YA!! Before I head over to explore your most recent adVenture in sorting out the good from the bad for us (is there any bad in biking or bikin stuff ya lop eared varmint?) I thought I would give ya a quick heads up on something I discovered about our new clubs site,, that being when you want to summons someone using that "@" symbol way of sending smoke signals you can no longer just type in my name with the @ in front of it like you used to do.. Now when you are typing it in you will notice a list of applicable names come up below where you are typing. You have to click on the name in the list that appears and let it fill the space you are typing in, easy peasy.. Make sense? In other words, this @VentureFar does not necessarily equal this @VentureFar LOL Just trying to help cause I always look out for my brother!! Me Now,, where did I put that link to your next instal....- 5 replies

Sounds fair. I would still appreciate an explanation from @Patch on exactly what he meant in his warning to me @Marcarl just to get us all on the same page but yeah,, that sounds fair IMHO.
-
Sorry if I hurt your feelings again @Patch, as my response was clearly stated to @saddlebum and not yourself and in response to some of the statements he made in a previous comment to myself. I make no apology for you reading the material as that is your right but I do apologize for you having any hurt feelings for having done so. I was simply responding to a post by a friend of mine to help clear up any misunderstanding the two of us may have about each others opinions of the matter. I am not sure what you meant in your warning to me. Perhaps you would care to explain what is meant by being able to "make this Poof"? Is that something you learned back in your day of being an enforcer for the mob that you told me about in chat a while back or is that something accomplished thru asking @Freebird or @Marcarl to close this thread? Please explain?

Still running hot, any advice?
cowpuc replied to circa1968's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Circ, unfortunately due to air movement over pipes when riding (front to back) it is entirely possible not get the best readings for diagnoses BUT it might not be a bad idea to look under fuel tank and other air flow areas for blockage of airflow - look for plastic housings that have came loose ect. Please do this BEFORE you do the carb sync. With bike cold, 1st start of the day. Maybe grab a pad of paper and jot down some notes. Take temp readings at matching locations on all headers. Starting with the bike cold, as soon as bike will begin to idle after initial start up from cold begin taking temps. Write down length of time idling and temps. Do again as bike warms up without touching throttle. After bike gets to operating temp so it will take throttle, rev bike while in stationary position two or three times and immediately take temps and continue writing down findings. Does this show hot header on #1? If so, when did the heat difference begin? Also,, what octane of fuel do you use? Do you use any fuel additives on a regular basis? It is possible that you have carbon gathering in the header that is serving as a heat source,, thinking out loud here.. More on that when you answer these questions. I am eager for you to receive your sync guages so you can check sync. What are you getting for gauges? It will be interesting to see how far out your bike is and what effect, if any simply syncing your carbs will have. Dont tear anything apart until you get your gauges.. Puc -

Geo, are you making the check during riding/stopping to check it or monitoring it during start up/warm up before riding it? NICE lazer temp gun!! Side note, I took my temp gun (similar to yours) with me out to Sturgis back in 2017 when Mom Yam released the new Venture cause I wanted to take some heat tests on the rear pipes/heads while there cause Mom Yam had said she had conquered the heat issues normally associated with Air Cooled bikes (I been into HD's for years and was amazed to hear someone had found a way to mitigate those hot leg issues Big Twin riders had suffered with for years) and I wanted to document what they had come up with.. They absolutely forbid me from "shooting" the new one with my lazer temp gun, they must have heard of the accuracy of those guns cause now I have heard of many new Venture owners are not being happy with what ever method Mom Yam had come up with for heat mitigation. In the old days it was common to "spit check" our headers to accomplish the testing task,, YOU are definitely on the right track IMHO!! GOOD STUFF!! -
wayyyyy cool brother!!!!! wayyyy cool!! I was just watching this one,, NEATO!! TKS Joe!!

So what are we looking at here you two? Are talking a "sleeve" that has solder molded right into it so all you do is trim the wires, slide the sleeve over the trimmed wire and then touch the sleeve with a solder gun? Is the sleeve crimped on the wire before soldering? Define please.. Pics too if possible..

Personally I do not see either side or anyone I know laying down our weapons, sticking our heads in the sand hoping the enemy just walks away Ben. There is a big difference in approach to Communist China's open attack on the free world by each party in the U.S. though. Personally, I am privy to a lot of the science behind the virus (I have a daughter who is front line on the research and development of tools for handling it) but I truly have no better access to this knowledge than anyone who wanted to trash listening to Gov propaganda and do their own research. Just to bring you up to speed, cause I love you too, this wearing a mask thing is nonsense UNLESS you are properly wearing an N95 mask or better. Wearing of anything less has zero effect in protection. Also, any facial hair must be removed and the masks must be fit properly. Actually, the make up of this weaponized virus is of such that a proper fitting full blown resparator is about your surest way of protection with wearing a full blown haz mat suit with resporator and decontaminate shower between changes and then living in a bubble protection environment being about the way of absolute protection. Like it or not,, all of that is fact.. One of the things that we Americans have always enjoyed about the freedom/liberty the blood of our countrymen/women has purchased for us (I have a hunch that we should all take another peek at the true definition of Liberty - IMHO, many have forgotten what it really is) is that many of us in America who have grown to love and treasure the Freedom/Liberty our Constitutional way of life affords us do not appreciate Government controlling our lives. Passing on vital information such as I wrote above - yes,, closing down our country and locking us inside "for our own protection" - absolutely NOT.. Individual Liberty is lost when that type of socialism peeks its head out IMHO. Perhaps what you see as running and hiding/sticking our heads in the sand hoping the enemy will just disappear is something some of us Americans see as boldly facing the enemy and not allowing those who have sold out our country and have authority over us to trick us (thru propoganda) or force us into surrendering our individual liberties and freedoms by allowing something like the Covid virus to dominate our lives.. Something to think about.. Puc

Likely spots for left side oil leaks,, hmmmm.. Ok @Geobob,, here is a quick draw McGraw rundown of who/what/where when I would look if it was doing such on one of my 83 MK1s: 1. Make sure the leak is not coming from uptop. Overfilling the case, filling above 1/2 way up the site window for case oil always caused excess breather oil to gather in the air box and then leaking out of the #1 carb (left rear - right above where you say your leaking)/air box boot, running down engine and onto ground - could easily gather on Health/Beauty Aids Saddle Bag (left bag). 2. Check oil filter cover. 3. I would make sure it is not coming from the crush washer on the oil drain plug.. 4. I would make sure my oil level switch is not leaking while laying on my back looking at the oil drain plug. 2. Make sure I put the copper crush washer back on the bottom left screw in the forward bevel cover last time I had it out. I would also double check screws for torque on that cover and stator cover all while looking carefully at the screws in the stator cover because I am pretty sure that it is possible to get to long of a screw in the wrong place when replacing that cover and that over tightening to long of a screw can actually force the screw into the cavity after fracturing the aluminum in the bottom of the screw hole and that oil can then find its way out of the case and out of that screw hole - does that make sense at all? 3. Knowing the drive shaft seal in the forward bevel is covered by that boot that connects the swing arm to the forward bevel and that boot will capture oil drippings I would probably write that off and go directly to the cavity between the forward bevel gear and the stator area. The forward bevel gear cover covers this area and is the cover that has to be removed to swap out the clutch slave.. Do you know the area I am speaking of? I will attach a video that shows what is under it. 4. I would take a pen light and mirror and examine that cavity and see if it is saturated with oil seepage. If so I would pull the forward bevel gear cover and clean area real well with carb cleaner. 5. I would then start the bike while sitting on center stand and watch for oil leaks.. I would leave the forward bevel cover off so I could watch for leaks thinking the forward bevel area is no part of the oil pump pressurized system but is lubed by loose oil carried on the gears in the tranny but I would be prepared with a rag just in case LOL 6. I would not be even one tiny little bit surprised to find the stator wire harness grommet leaking where the grommet contacts the cover and where the wires run thru it cause Murphy likes to do that to me. 7. I would not be at all surprised to find oil leaking from the neutral switch on the wall of the case cause Murphy really does like to trick me. 8. I would look at the shift shaft coming out of the engine for leakage there because,, you guessed it,, Murphy.. 9. double check the clutch slave gasket,, very very unlikely but possible IMHO There,, that should keep ya busy LOL Here is that video I mentioned but before I go, I bid you all the best in finding your leak: Puc

Puff of white smoke and milkshake in my oil.
cowpuc replied to Popsnana19655's topic in Watering Hole
Looking good my friend,, looking good.. From what I can see here on my laptop it does look like the #1 pot,, left rear, was indeed probably the one taking on coolant, at least from what I can see of the color of the piston top. As far as the cam lobe wear, I have seen similar wear patterns on bikes whose owners had let them set for extended periods of time and then failed to prelube the cam journals before start up. Ending up with cam journal smudging and then failure allowing the cam to actually move in the journals. If I were you and I was going to rebuild what you have I would check the cam in its journals for movement.. I would probably just go ahead and pull the cam caps and take a peek at those journal saddles and make sure they are healthy. Hey Pops,, I envy you,, we are in the middle of a snow storm here. We just got from Fremont Michigan and it was literally a white out up there,, NICE to see someone has decent weather to play in!! Keep the faith! Puc -
You bet brother!! Quite frankly, YOU are one amazing individual that deserves a standing ovation of the 5 star type for all you have done, past/present/future, in creating such an amazing adVenture for ALL of us who call your creation home!! You are appreciated and loved for all you are and all you do @Freebird!! I am also 100% all in with @Squidley on his from the heart/soul advice too,, for those who are not pleased (and I know it happens) looking elsewhere on the net may be best thing for them but I wish them the best in finding the family type environment you and your staff seek to create and have been successful in creating here on VR. Picture a man,, laying in bed peeping thru tired eyes and just finishing up watching the news thru his Fire Stick stream on YouTube on his bedrooms 52 inch tv when his mind starts wondering if his clubs new site is navagational thru the Fire Stick web browser thingy.. Being the curious type, he punches in Venturerider.org and WHALLLLAAAA,, he is home... Now he notices the Boss posted a new thread about the clubs site update he has been slaving over so he runs the little blue Fire Stick ball over to that thread and gives it click. He likes what he sees and desperately seeks to type in a response that reads "heyyyy you lop eared @Freebird varmint, is the club still going pass out awards and honor badges to those who have served or is that a thing of the past?" when he discovers that for some reason, his Fire Sticks keyboard does not pop up.. Being one to never wants to (insert the little pot stirring guy cause that same person, me, still aint found that little icon he loves) cause the Boss more grief than he has already got himself into by tackling such an undaunting task as this updating thing is, the varmint just aborts the entering a message process and shoots the little Fire Stick blue ball up to give the thread and its creator a 5 star standing ovation. Being stubborn, that little blue ball is not exactly over the 5th star but, due to that Fire Stick having a mind of its own,, the ball was over on the 1 star on the left instead of the 5th star on the right when I clicked it. Being tired and perhaps even a little lazy I just shook my head and went back to sleep. I am back on my laptop now and just tried to correct that rating but am not sure that it worked. Either way,, know that you are a 5 star Bossman if there ever was one!! @Squidley,,, pretty tough talk from a varmint picking on a varmint who has a direct com line with a varmint on the other side of the pond from him who is in the process of producing a large supply of finally perfected WWW that does not melt until it reaches 65 degrees especially when the varmint your pickin on is heavily invested in that particular concoction that @Flyinfool has now perfected..

Sounds like fun Bob,, will be watching this thread for your followup,, with Pics if possible?? This place never has enough pics for my liken lol ALL the best in your stator adVenture! Puc

Before I get to far into this post in an effort to explain what is going here to any new comers to the club,, I want to draw your attention to the little adVentures in S%$w (NEVER EVER SPELL THAT FOUR LETTER WORD OUT< DOING SO IS INVITING DISASTER!!) above.. The little plow guy in his wayyy cool truck is special BUT watch the little feller with the paint can very carefully!! Notice the detail!! That my lop eared fellow varmints defines the type of person we are dealing with here.. Never under estimate Fools capabilies.. Do not think for one minute that just because you live in, even say Australia,, that you are out of reach of our friend @Flyinfool and his WWW when it comes to doing to you that which the video below shows he did to Tip and I. Here is a copy/paste of the description of the attached vid from Youtube: I live in West Michigan right on the shoreline.. My friend, FlyingFool, lives in Wisconsin and has an addition to his Wisconsin White Wash Machine (makes s*&w) that he recently built (the "Fool" is NO FOOL!! - very talented!).. This new add on device is called a SnoperCharger.. He finally got it sorted back out after a minor setback with this little video showing the results..

Not sure but maybe it's cause the Boss knows your an awesome DJ and the porch is where the club's turn table is located?
