Yamaha fires back on why they didn't use the vmax v4 engine
cowpuc replied to RandyR's topic in Watering Hole
EXACTLY = practice, practice practice,,,,, and not in active intersections either,, find a vacant parking lot and practice, practice, practice.. Practice alone on your scoot till it becomes habit,,, then practice practice practice with your best friend on the back,,,,, practice practice practice,,, then load the scoot up like the 3 of you are gonna be gone touring for months and practice practice practice... At this point its time to put the practice to work,,, now ya can putt in parking lots and slow ride around fuel pumps and even places like Main Street Sturgis without even thinking about it,,, just think,, at this point you can use ALL your focus on double checking what the other person is doing with the car while they are texting or talking on the phone.. Practice, practice practice,,, may just save your life,,,,, practice practice practice.... Get to LOVE practicing!! -
I LOVE you guys's version of "Baggers" and glad everyone has one but gotta ask,,, WHERE IN DAH WORLD IS while all this is going on?? No ??

EXCELLENT IDEA GARY,,, ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT!!! That would be the greatest win win of all time.. 1st win would be Mom Yam selling the bikes,, second would be,,,,, lets see,,, hard to explain,, maybe a picture story with ":moped: = + new Venture" and ":bikersmilie: = Tip, Tweeks and Puc"... Here we go: ,,,, = what was that?,,,,, :bikersmilie:,,,,, = bike 31 to headquarters do you read me over,,,, go ahead 31,,, = need to report UFM ( unidentified flying motorcycle) - never did see nuttin like it - 4x faster then this thing you gave me,,,, :bikersmilie::bikersmilie:,,, = there it goes again,,, I got it on radar but unable to respond on present vehicle,,,, = wait,,,,, wait,, think its coming back,,, ,,,,, = never mind HQ = 2 kids in VW,, gonna pursue,, no idea what happened to ,, probably in next state,,, what ever UFM was - same should still be available as new.. The End :bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie:

Yamaha fires back on why they didn't use the vmax v4 engine

I never did quite get the whole "top heavy" thing with the earlier Ventures... Fact is,,, one of the things I noticed right away when demoing the new one was its weight coming off the kick stand - it was heavy,, more so than my fully loaded 1st Gen IMHO... I like factual evidence A LOT,, I think a really cool test to see would be an actual pull weight measurement going from kickstand on level ground to centerline.. Wouldnt be hard to do... Anyway,, here is a small demo of slow riding that may or may not demonstrate the actual top heaviness of a 1st Gen Venture, two up and fully loaded (maybe overloaded by somes standards) for touring.. It may also demonstrate the original Ventures prowness for usage in parking lots and so on.. All depending on your perspective of what top heaviness is and what effect it has on slow speed handling I guess... -

Yep,, that last line Kretzer,,,,, that last line explains A LOT IMHO = right there with ya!! Personally,, I really like the new scoot,,, I LOVE the 113 motor (personally perfer it in a chopper platform like the Raider - maybe with an 18 over Springer though ) and flat out consider it a worthy piece.. I think the whole idea of having "parking assist" is a HUGE + for many.. I even like the futuristic look of the machine (I LOVED the "George Jetson" appeal of the Polaris Vision too ) .. Back to your point,,, bottom line,, when telling us that they were gonna turn the touring world upside down, then billing the machine out as a "Venture" = flat out told a few of us that high performance - Gold Wing/BMW stomping - fire breathing water cooled shaft driven tourer with the heart of the new V-Max was on its way and that our version of the touring world better stand up and pay attention,,,,,,, just a simple matter of misinterpertation or communications break down or something.. Fact is,,this new one really is a GORGEOUS machine that is gonna fit in nicely around here for many many future CTFW riders.. -

Its so strange you bring up the whole Victory thing Lenny... After hearing the sound of a V-Twin and saying "ohh poop" when they 1st started them at the unveiling and they pulled them forward to where they could FINALLY be seen IRL,, my second response to my wife, Tip, was,,,, "someone from the now defunct Victory line (like Arlen Ness) got a job at Yamaha = IT"S A VICTORY".. This inspired me to follow on "The Vog" like you are saying.. I noticed right away that there were more than one comment on that site referring to exactly what I had said to Tip = so I knew I wasnt going nuts ... Fast forward to Sturgis,, bumped into more than one Vic rider there who CLEARLY believed they found a new home in the new Venture - one I have on vid that I will be postinhg up as I continue my report thereof.. It's almost like Mom Yam knew that Polaris was gonna turn her back on her faithful Vic riders and Mom Yam was intending to scoop em up.. Lots of disgruntled Vic owners and Vic dealership owners out there who really did not appreciate how Polaris chose to handle that mess.. That said,,,, the only problem (if there is such a thing,, consider the source of who is writing this comment you are reading) the above if there is any truth to it is that I think Mom Yam may have missed something very important here = the reason WHY Polaris closed their Victory line = THEY DID NOT SELL:confused24:... They (Polaris) tried for almost 20 years to dip into the HD market with the Victory motorcycle of theirs and it didnt work and they (Polaris) was/is a "Made In America" company (I have been and ran with HD Riders for years and "Made In America" is one of the unshakeable marketing tools in their corner for securing their 50% + of the V-Twin "touring" market). -

I dont know Vaz,, you sure Mom Yam was listening to any of her faithful Venture riders??? I went back over to our lists of what we were looking for in the new Venny and found that 99.9% of the responders in those threads had an agreement with the one I quote below in that they wanted at least a V-4, watercooled, shaft drive scoot. :stirthepot::biker: -
Back in my day our school classes all began with prayer and the pledge of alligiance to The Flag of The United States of America. Schwinn bicycles had solid steel fork tubes that would perfectly slide inside of the cut off forks of a Huffy bicycle giving even the poorest of children of my day a chance at building and owning a chopper that not even the coolest 5 speed Lemon Peeler, Orange or Apple crate machine could compete with - CUSTOM'S RULED the planet in my day!! The second half of The Wizard of Oz had not been adapted to color yet and The Lone Ranger could still be heard on the radio. Ben Cartright, Marshall Dillon and The Rifleman taught respect for self and for law and order on TV back in my day and taught us children that all lives matter. People young and old actually listened very carefully when our President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, spoke to them about threats from within our country that were trying to change our way of life to that of Communism or Socialism and those same people, young and old actually cried when his life was taken for his stand for Freedom and our way of life. Those same people would shed more tears as his brother, Bobby, was also slain and another great lover of American Freedom, Dr. Martin Luther King was also assassinated. Adults were always addressed by Mr. or Mrs. back in my day and even blood relatives were addressed with "Aunt" or "Uncle" before stating their 1st names. Even the rolling of the eyes at a School teacher would earn you a sampling of how much a Cedar Paddle could sting and, upon arrival at home,, that sample would be reinforced by a contest between your Dad and the Teacher of who could make that paddle sting the worstest.. Real soap was used for cleansing of the tongue if curse words were heard slipping from the lips of a kid back in my day. Sonic BOOMS were common place as the best of the best of our Armed Forces broke sound barriers to constantly assure those of us below that they were there for us. Back in my day everyone knew everyone and social events like Trick or Treat started when you walked out the door of your house in your neighborhood and didn't stop until the last paper sack was filled for the night. Older kids who picked on little kids, even during trick or treat, got beat up by kids bigger than them cause at that time picking on someone your own size meant something as did the signs on bathroom doors back in my day. Boys went to battle on the grid iron and girls stood on the side lines and cheered for their school mates of the opposite sex to win for their team. If needed, after becoming grown men, some of those same boys went to war to protect and defend their families at home and way of life while some of those same girls who were cheerleaders became Mom's and proudly stayed at home and continued the making sure that the families who their men were off fighting for continued to get the upbringings that their children deserved. Back in my day dentist offices had really small porcelin toilet shaped bowls with water swirling around in them to spit blood into but only kids who didn't tell their parents that their tooth hurt knew about this and T.B. tests at school didn't really hurt that much but some kids would yell as loud as they could when they got tested just to draw attention to themselves. If you got hungry before lunch time during your stint in elementary school back in my day, you could always get by on eating class room paste, it was very plentiful and none of us boys believed it was made from dead horses like we were told back in my day but we always reassured the girls that it was. Speaking of girls back in my day, they wore saddle shoes and boys went bare footed during the summer.. Girls also wore dresses during the summer and boys wore cut off blue jeans and old tee shirts if they wore shirts at all. Later in life those same girls wore these things called "Mini-Skirts" (I really like those Mini Skirts) and the boys still wore jeans and tee shirts but by then it was no longer cool to cut the legs off em so we all wore em long legged - another thing that changed was our haircuts,, all of us boys started wearing our hair like "The Beatles" from a far off place called England and stopped wearing Princeton Haircuts.. I am not sure if I wrote this already but I like REALLY liked girls in Mini Skirts and was saddened when that phase of girls dresses stopped later in my day.. The FM radio had not been invented yet back in my day but AM radio's were everywhere. My favorite local disc jockey had a really low bass voice and I always imagined him as 6' 5''inches tall with great big muscles but, when our high school sponsored a Donkey Basketball game between the faculty and local prominent people - I found out that my favorite disc jockey radio hero was actually only 5' 3'' inches tall and had a HUGE Adams apple. This taught me a life lesson that just because you think something is so does not mean it is so - a very valuable life lesson from back in my day.. I also learned, at a very young age,, that Donkeys or "Jack Asses" of my day really couldn't play basket ball - they weren't that smart. I am not sure if the Jack Asses of today could do any better but,, considering how much things have changed comparing my day to today's day,, I have a hunch that modern day Jack Asses could not do any better.. The End

WHAT IN THE WILD WILD WORLD OF END OF SEASON MISHAPS IS GOIN ON AROUND HERE!!!!! Last time something like this happened the whole east coast ended up getting buried under 20 feet of snow,,, Florida lost over 20 million dollars in crop damage due to the HUGE walk-in freezer the state had become, the southern folks had to walk to work cause they had no form of White Wash removal equipment in their road maintenance fleets, clothing sales in far off places like San Diego come to a complete stop as Canadian Winter clothing had to be shipped in for their survival needs and us folks along the Lake Michigan lakeshore were half done with cutting our own version of that ice highway up in Alaska across the pond so we could hunt down the lop eared "ice in his vains" varmint who was responsible for the mess... And all THAT was done in response to a "dare" by someone down yonder making a comment like - naahhh nahhh dee boo boo,, Fool and his Wisconsin White Washer cant get us down here = now that same lop eared varmint HAS to sit idle with nothing to do but tittle??? NO WAY!! A short letter to Fool's foot doc and PT: Dear Doc: YES - Jeff heals VERY quickly! PLEASE fix the thing BEFORE those Canucks start sending their cold weather southward waking up the need to harass his neighbors that lies dorment in Fools sinister blood during the summer.. NOW = sew that tendon back on,, ship him to PT,, PT people = bend him and stretch him - dont let his squinty little beady eyes fool ya makin ya think he cant handle it,, that squint is hiding thoughts of planning what he is gonna do to us,, his friends,,, if he isnt better before winter... FIX HIM = NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry to hear about this Jeff,, Prayers Up brother - hoping and praying all goes well neighbor!!! Puc

I am with Bongo and totally speechless Dan.. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you folks as you work thru this tragic event... Please let your brother know we are thinking of and praying for him.. Has he got an immediate family,, wife/children? Prayers Up Puc

Yea BUT,,, at least when ya get nailed from the back ya usually dont see it coming so ya dont get tramatised by having your life pass before your eyes like ya do when it all happens right in front of you - something else I learned in my extremely hazard filled growin up years Fool!! I think the real question here may be,,, is it funner to get pushed or is it funner to get pulled??

Yamaha fires back on why they didn't use the vmax v4 engine
cowpuc replied to RandyR's topic in Watering Hole
I am totally right there with ya Mike,,, makes no sense at all,,, just makes no sense,, unless,,, maybe it has something to do with actual Market size.. If "O" = the size of the market that HD own's 50% of and "O" represents the size of the market that Honda, with its Goldwing has 50% control over and straight up potential for profitability is what Mom Yam was/is looking for then I can see why they may have seen more $$ potential chasing the HD market.. Fact is,, out in the real touring world,, things have really changed.. Long story but Tip n I spent an over nighter with an Over The Road truck driver (owner/op) while out CTFW in Wyoming during the Sturgis Rally. This trucker was on his way to his home in Missouri with a Motor Home he had purchased in Montana - he noticed Tweeks grazing at a fuel station and walked over, got yakking with Tip and I and ended up inviting us to camp in his Motor Home for the rainy night - of course,, who could turn down such a thoughtful offer.. Anyway,, in discussing with him what we are/were all about - his comment of "I spend a LOT of time on the roads of America and gotta say - its a real shame but you folks are a dieing breed".. IMHO,, he nailed it!! Fact is,, the whole motorcycle "touring" idea has changed.. Not that we dont see a TON of HD Ultra Limited or Road Glides out there (HD's version of a "touring" bike IMHO) and a fair amount of Gold Wings and the like BUT - in almost 99% of the sightings - they are found in local traveling circumstances = even what the old timers may call "bar hopping" scenarios.. If what I am saying holds any truth at all,, then possibly the need for an extensive dealership network to service real touring customers who are on the road and needing service is actually also passing.. Perhaps,, just maybe,, companies like Polaris with their 1 dealership MAYBE in ever State/Province to service their high dollar Indian "touring" bikes and Yamaha's lacking in that arena is actually a planned item by those companies.. Maybe they realize that, as you say,, there is far more involved with what makes up a sellable/wantable "touring bike" then there used to be.. -

In this episode Tweeks sniffs out a really cool genuine Detroit Tiger Baseball cap while motorcycle treasure hunting in Upper Michigan. Our oldest daughter (biker name = Awahoo) can testify to the lifetime of enjoyment a person can get out of a reclaimed hat like this (she still wears one that her and found years ago) and we hope our youngest daughter (biker name TOTR (aka - Tunnel of Trees Rider) enjoys this recent find to the fullest as well!! We KNOW that TOTR and her amazing husband - Nate - really enjoy watching Tiger Baseball and know they will put this latest treasure of the road to good use!! Love ya TOTR and Nate!!!

WAYYYY COOLLL!!!! Had no idea the company existed = THANK YOU for the thread and thank you for the link!! Watching the vid,,, it brought back a lot of memories of my high school years.. A buddy and I built a VW Trike in shop class back then - sort of the same design but I am sure no where near the quality... One of the things we discovered back then was how intrusive having the engine/tranny mounted behind you can be in the case of a front end crunchy.. We lost brakes and crashed er into the side of the high school - wasnt going real fast but WOW did that front end fold up as the weight of the back end drove itself forward on impact with us between the forward moving drive train and the brick wall of the building - sort of like a trailer might do to a bike towing one if it didnt have trailer brakes and was involved in a head on collision... I suppose a good engineer could explain this effect better but I came to the conclusion back then (from that experience) that, at least in my case, I prefer having the engine in front of me so it can take any impact in my stead instead of pounding me into oblivion like always happened to my buddy Wile-EEE Coyote during his ACME Rocket Skate testing back in the day...

PLEASE! Tell me we aren't losing the desire to ride!
cowpuc replied to BigLenny's topic in Watering Hole
Easy does it Lenny,,, reach back carefully and hand me your shirt sleeve,,,, now grab this throttle cable while your scoot tightens the slack and gently tugs you back to reality.... Phew,,, THAT was close.... Got it?? Ya ok now??? Here,, take a sip of the 20/50 Supertech and relax while ol Puc tells ya a story... Right along the trail way you are talking about traveling with your lovely bride lies one of the most delicious bike routes known to man.. Just south of Flagstaff (aka Flag) Arizona is an old pathway thru the canyons known as 89A - ya jump on that toward the end of the day cause ya don't wanna be caught in the high desert at night sleepin in a tent = then ya gotta wait till after 10 for things to warm up in the a.m. and no real man wants to treat his lady like that - or his ride partner either (I have found that both my bike and my wife love early morning CTFW).. Enjoy the evening ride down the canyons, the ponderosa pine smells in the evenings are intoxicating and the warm cross winds off the high desert canyon walls serve as almost a small turbo boost of pressure on the nostrils with just enough push to make a person not have to strain to sense the perfect odors against their own breathing - it's just a natural part of motorcycling and NOTHING is as fulfulling as sharing the moment with your best friend.. Before you cross out of the Pine region in the endless beauty of the canyons right at the bottom of the foothills - pull over and drop the tent for the night.. The ick-spressway (I think its I-17 or 15 or something like that) where people stressed out with trying to get home from work and traveling in their cages will be traveling - will be far enough away from you folks that even the pointless drones of the occasional Semi wont be heard - only the tap of the lonely woodpecker diggin a bug out of the side of that great big beautiful Ponderosa and the sounds of wind sneaking thru the Pine Boughs will be your company till the two of you drift off.. When you wake up,, toss on a couple of those old sweat shirts you rolled up and stuck in the Clothing Department (trunk on our bike) - roll up the tent and finish CTFW down into Sedona,, oh my gosh,, SEDONA two up on a motorcycle just in time for breakfast ... When your done cramming food in so your bellys quit complaining (by this time in your trip will have long sense discovered that eating is wayyyyy over rated - with all that endless beauty out there and very little time to explore it - eating almost becomes a necessary nuisance) and after exploring the endless cake like sweet beauty that Sedona offers - put the icing on that cake by scooting back out to 89a and finding your way down south and upward to the sleepy lil mountain town of Jerome.... OUCH,, ok Tip,,, ok,, I will stop,, this is totally wrong what da heck - Lenny asked me to do it,,, sorry Lenny,,, didnt mean to ,, Tip says I,,, I mean I really gotta apologize brother... You folks need to ride your ride (seriously here) no matter what that is,, if its cagin dont matter,, riding mopeds - dont matter,, hiking thru the mountains - dont matter,, the key is = using up your precious hours together as the two of you see fit - to that cause I bid you both NOTHING BUT THE FINEST VACATION POSSIBLE MY FRIEND - WHAT EVER YOU CHOOSE FOR THE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION IN DOING SO!! Puc P.S. = THANK YOU!! Your question here reminded me that I gotta get back to finishing my summer ride story on You Tube - that older grandson of mine out in California is gonna think his grandpa forgot about him (he LOVES watching those vids),, THANKS BRO!! -

As long as your in a hurry to put your scoot away,, could you please get in really big hurry and knock that infamous flake shaker off its stand in the shed and accidently crush its irreplaceable nozzles so it cant function for a couple years??? Pretty please?? With cheese flavored Rum Balls on top? P.S. - dont forget to drain the carbs on the ol girl!!!

I am positive that Zudey will have some important info on this too but I wonder if our member @videoarizona may also have some helpful info pertaining to your question.. He and I have spoke at considerable length about the 2nd Gens and available windshields and wind buffeting there of.. It will be interesting for my wife and I to hear what these experienced riders have to say concerning the question(s) you propose.. Hopefully several of our other experienced 2nd Gen riders will also chime in as "the more the merrier" usually applies quite nicely when considering gathering info about the purchase of a new scoot!! Hope this helps Brew and WELCOME to VR!! y

****** Any one following this thread is gonna wanna read this AND follow thru by clicking on the link here and READ post 6 by Condor in that link!! Seems my good buddy @Flyinfool knew EXACTLY what he was talking about here = I had NO idea that a "wire" of any form was involved in Mom's Yam's update on the stator - I have been living on her "1st" update apparently and - as @Condor shows in Post 6 - I was wrong! I strongly advise that anyone wanting to update the stator on their early 1st Gen (MK1) READ and heed Jeff's/Condor's advice herein!!
