My very first MK1 1st Gen was a true 84 Royale purchased in 1987 and, out of the 6 of the 1st Gen MK1's I have owned since, the only Royale I have had.. Please consider this while I travel back in my remaining memory and make comment from those mems.. My Royale had a different Computerized Monitor up on the dash board - there was a "gear counter" on it's monitor. The monitor I see is duplicate of my other 5 1st Gens = no gear counter = Standard. There was a totem pole of switches on the left handlebar perch above the clutch/blinker/horn controls for control of the audio system and cruise control switches on right side,, = not seen in your pics = Standard. Yours does show a friction cruise (have one on both my current 1st Gen and on my R1) and this is not OEM Cruise on a Royale. I think the fork schrader to the left of the key switch in the pic is typical of all MK1's but not sure,, I know all my Standards have this to put air in forks but my Royale may have had it too in order to adjust them without using the class system... Now lets see if one of the real 1s Gen guru's around here can step in and correct my error(s) LOL..

Some interesting thoughts on the new Venture from others who CTFW...
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks Lenny,,, very well put and very interesting perspective brother... Noticing your comment above about ""making the bike kinda of straddle the design of the victory instead of trying to match the Harley is a very smart move by Yamaha"" really hit a nerve with me.. I noticed, which appeared to my untrained eye as the Polaris Victory "look" right away at the unveiling,, matter of fact - after getting over the initial shock that indeed, my hope for the Mom Yam to roll out a new Venture with a 1700cc V-Max motor in shaft drive had just been dashed - I spoke those exact words to Tip = "looks like someone from Polaris Victory - maybe Arlen Ness - has jumped ship".. After things set in, we got home and started reading on a variety of sites = I noticed the gang over on "TheVog" also seen what I saw and were wayyyyy excited about it - they REALLY felt betrayed by Polaris and many seem to see what they had hoped for in the next stage of Victory that Polaris had turned their backs on sitting there in the form of the new Yam... I write all this to confirm and clarify that I totally am right there with ya.. Only thing that I simply still dont get,,,, that being that the very reason that Polaris ceased ops and manufactering the entire Victory line is because it did not sell - it flat out could not compete with the owner of the huge, air cooled, V-Twin market = HD - proven after a very long 18 years of attempting to do just that... Now overlay that thought with Mom Yam's lack of success with the Strat/Roadliner/Raider line itself in competing with HD.. Many of those bikes sat idle as NOS as a highly discounted product on dealership floors for years,, just like the Vics.. There were some great deals out there (may still be) with 1/2 of MSRP not unheard of and they still didnt sell.. Now,, years later,, a person can find some REALLY sharp examples of these bikes on the used market for CHEAP... Not saying I dont think the 113 Yam is not a great platform - personally - I LOVE IT but facts are facts... Am I missing something here?? Could you expound on why Mom Yam straddling Victory is a positive?? THANKS BROTHER - YOUR THOUGHTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Puc -
1 + 1:think: = It's the little :moped: memories that are ALWAYS so and endlessly !!!! THAT is priceless Zude,, absolutely PRICELESS!!!

If that bride of yours takes any likin to British sports cars you probably will want to keep her away from Provo Utah where these puppies are being hand built.. ,,,, your welcome Boss,, always happy to help,,,,, in a light hearted way of course...

Yep,, if it were me I would do signs (I have seen "Area Under Video Survailence" signs for sale) as well as temporary flood lighting to keep it well lit at night.. Trash also dont care much for well lit places,,, maybe even put lighting inside on a timer... Keep em guessing as to who is around.. Like you said,, what if the video stuff burns,,, maybe consider a game trail camera set up = make it look like the area is video covered but instead use game trail motion sensitive camera(s).. Not sure of $$$'s for such things but know they work REALLY well - buddy use to get some awesome shots of deer in his yard while he was working using one... Maybe a cheap set up video deal,, thinking I have seen them recently advertised at Harbor Freight ran off a motion detector.. Then a good backup with a deer trail camera??? Another thing,,, you really should be carrying a camera at all times Dan,, I personally would think that pictures or video that shows the vermin scampering near your brothers house and, while he is incarcerated, continuing to harass other family members (whippin ya the bird and such) of his may show a jury their true intent - if they would do it to you,, hard telling what they did to your brother... Gotta think about being smarter then them in building a supportive case for your bro.. Things like - proving that they have been pursuing your brother for a long time - proving they have intended to do great bodily harm to him and on and on.. Biggy that you dont let your emotions get the best of you brother,, THAT is what they are after.. Lean on God,, talk to THE Man Dan A LOT...

Still thinking of and praying for your brother and all involved here Dan.. What a terrible situation to say the least - hopefully things calm down and truthful/honest and fair justice somehow finds its way before more disastor sets in... Prayers Up bro!! Puc

Just read this to Tip,,, Tip and I want to be the 1st of the family to congratulate Eileen on her new scoot and welcome her to the VR riders circle... Please let her know that now that she is getting her own bike, she does not have to wait for you to bring her up for a Hot Dog - she and her new machine can just come on up!! Tweeks and Maggie also want Eileen to know that they will scoot over and make room in their garage for an overnighter with her new baby should Eileen and Tippy decide to go shopping in the area resulting in it getting to late and the need to sleep over come about after coming up for a Hot Dog... :big-grin-emoticon:

NICE Deeej =REALLY REALLY NICE!!! Few years ago ,, ...... Now adays its ,, =lets stick em with another needle and = gonna ride more and work less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Turnin into a professional bucketlister :7_2_104[1]: Sure does bring back memories though... I have a few unfinished yet to sell myself.. Had a guy stop to look at an old Suki 250 Savage I have downstairs and while him and I were yakkin numbers on it another guy stopped and asked if I had any links I could pass along on an early "Lil Green Apple" Honda CT70 (very rare color).. Was telling him that I had redone 3 of them back in the hayday and each went for over 6 grand = if he did find one and it was anything close to being a "10" expect to pay in that price range... Saying all that to say,,, the price on that Lil HD is probably not out of line = at all... THANKS FOR THE LINK Deej = enjoyed it!! Puc

I love reading what others riding other breeds of touring scoots are thinking of the new Venny... I found this one earlier here while surfing = over 50 pages from what sounds like folks who may be touring riders: http://gl1800riders.com/forums/4-general-mc-message-board/351121-new-yamaha-tourer.html and been picking thru it.. Pretty interesting insight IMHO... This comment was written by someone before the unveiling,,, never occurred to me that Kawasaki went thru a similar situation when moving from their inline 4 Voyager to the V-Twin... Pretty interesting read: """In 2003, Kawasaki did a survey primarily from the American Voyager Association membership, on what they'd like to see in a new Voyager. Most members at the time were on the Voyager 12 (I had bought my '90 XII in November of '02), and a few on the old space shuttle technology 1300. They had posted the results in one of the newsletters. In 2004, Kawasaki had basically said, that the new Voyager was a go, but all they would say at the time (if I recall correctly), was that it was going to be fuel injected and not a V-twin. The chairman/liason had been to Kaw in California, and had seen the engine. But mum was the word. Many had been holding off jumping ship and going with a Wing, to see what Kaw was going to do. Hopefully, a Wing killer, or at least, a Wing competitor. The only reason a Kawasaki dealer ever sold a Voyager 12, was when someone came in looking for a Wing, and couldn't afford it, didn't want to spend it, or was intimidated by it (either the 1500 or 1800) and the dealer says, "Oh, we have this thing over here in the corner/warehouse. And it's cheaper." At the 2005 AVA rally, there was no news on the new Voyager. Shortly after, it was announced that Kaw was shelving the project indefinitely. The first wave of Voyager owners jumped over to GL1800s or anything else. Mainly Wings though. 2 or 3 years later, they said the new Voyager project had been renewed. But they absolutely let no info out until its debut. And I can't blame them. When the V-twin Vulcan Voyager 1700 was released, the second wave of Voyager owners left. I felt let down. Betrayed. The bean counters had won. They saw the money that Harley was raking in with their, ahem, "motorcycles", LOL, and decided that they too, could rake in the dough. But what they failed to understand was, that if I, or others, really wanted a V-twin cruiser/tourer, we'd already own a Harley. With their dealer network, I mean, it's like McDonald's. They're everywhere! I hope Yamaha did it right. I won't buy one. But I hope they did it right. If Yamaha gets away from the Royal Star bagger tourer and goes full tilt mega-flagship, then maybe someone at Kaw will wake up. They'd better hurry though. The '03 GL1800 I bought a week and a half ago, has already started moving its own stuff in. Like it's going to stay a while or something. I'm not ready to share a toothbrush.............yet."""

Oppssss,, my bad,, going with Fool on this one!! That switch failure on the 2nd Gens could/would probably act just like tossing the kill switch on/off going down the road = KAABOOOOOM as the muffs fill with unburned fuel and then relight when switch makes intermittent contact... Known issue with the 2nd Gens.. I would head there!!

Oh yea,, another thought,,,, dont I recall Dana injuring his leg a year or two ago at Vogel?? Seems I remember pics of him sitting in a chair getting spoon fed and babied by beautiful women with his leg propped up... Was this another one of those instances? Lets see,,, remembering that and thinking my feeble brain is still functioning to the point that it DOES remember that correctly,,,,, and that we are suppose to be guessing who fell over here,,, I am gonna guess that somehow it involved Rokon goofing off and trying to get someone to spoon feed him while he is on vacation.. :big-grin-emoticon:

Back a few years ago Tip, Tweeks and I made a journey down south to look for Vogels.. Found em too.. Shortly after finding a Vogel,, and in the dark,, Dana and Jamie took the three of us trail riding up into the high country of Vogel to where "Fozzy Bear" lived.. I think Fozzy's home may have been one of the little cabins we are reading about here?? I know it was REALLY fun trail riding up there in the dark and I ended up balancing Tweeks on a rock and blocking her rear wheel with another when we went inside Fozzy's Place to tease em.... Anyone know if this was the same cabin = #30 ?? Or was this latest happening in a totally different than that which we experienced down yonder?? Either way,, glad everyone is ok,, and the gremlins associated with "Number 30" have since left the area and are not headed Northerly.... On another note,,, Skid said Superman was there?? Did anyone take a of ??? We folks who had to miss all the fun REALLY need to see ,,, :guitarist 2:

Good idea Don but,, as always,,, I gotta couple questions about it.. One of the things I have really enjoyed about our club dues is the fact that it can be a form of a barrier of protection of sorts... Not even sure that I am saying this correctly but I actually like that little probationary sort of "feel" about folks going thru a trial period before having access to phone numbers and addresses (locations as shown on our balloon map thingy)... I know,, sound selfish probably but thats one of reasons I stay away from Face Book and the like.. All that said,, and ONLY for the "spirit" of what I am trying to say,,,,,,, gotta ask,,, can anyone now sign up as a trial member and instantly have access to all of the above? Sorry about always being the one who seems to about stuff like this brother...

NEVER a good thing!! Thoughts and PRAYERS UP for that Grand Daughter Holly!! Got a 1st name you can share (makes it more personable when talking to the Lord about situations like this).. Regardless,, more than happy to bend the knee for the little one!! Puc

I have had situations similar to what I think I am reading here with Stator failure, once the stator (or Voltage regulator) drops off the bike is running on battery power only for its electrical needs, as the battery goes dead - strange things start to happen.. Of course, a bad fuse or wire breakage or "open" in the electrical system can cause strange things too.. With the little info I am reading, I think the first thing I would do is: 1. If the bike will now not roll over when you hit the start button and reading what I am reading, I would see if I could get someone to give me a jump start from their car.. Turn the car off, hook up the cables (negative post last) and WITHOUT starting the car - see if the bike will start.. If it does, disconnect the negative cable at the bike battery and glance at the Volt Meter on your bike.. Is it acting normal = 12 vlts + at idle, come up to 14 volts when revved??

Yamaha fires back on why they didn't use the vmax v4 engine
cowpuc replied to RandyR's topic in Watering Hole
Yea,, as hard as I try not to be,,, I'm still pretty miffed too... That whole Sturgis thing was fun and all but I walked away from it with even more questions than I went with,,, wish I coulda tempt check em and all that... One of the things that I cant get out of my head has t do with a couple of the last real deal touring bikes out there,, The Wing, = the engine heat associated with the boxers/flat engies.. The Guzzi Air Heads stuck those jugs right out in front of your legs = talk about hot,,, but the early flat Wing motors (cant say much on the 1800's = never rode/owned one) got me even worse on feet and ankles - someday I will ride an 1800 and see if its the same - this design also held limitations for being able to stretch out for me... That said,, one of the things I REALLY wanted to test on this new one with my temp gauge was Stator Heat.. Something I have always loved about my 1st Gens and thought that Yam was gonna smack it out of the park with a new breed 1700cc Vmax Motored fixed fairing Venture was the idea of being able to have the engine entirely concealed within the confines of shrouding and air foil.. That said, one of the intrensic hot spot's that always got me as a rider of the 1st Gen was the Stator area on the left side of the scoot.. That area is directly forward of the riders footpeg/shift lever and,, in warmer tempts - would get hot enough that resting of the foot on the crashbar would almost be manditory if thinking about more than using the scoot for buzzing around town.. I also use that upper stator area A LOT for perching my foot on when doing longer then 12 hour days in the saddle and, in so doing,, have noticed many times in desert riding that stator cover its way to hot to rest even a covered foot on for any extended period... This new one, now having not one but 2 Alternator/Stator assemblies (one on each side) mounted just forward of the riders feet/legs really has me curious concerning heat management with this added heat source. Having experienced a fair amount of discomfort associate with the 1100, 1200 and 1500 Wings with heat production in that same basic area has me about it all... More questions than answers I reckon... -
