IMHO = here is my guess on why the hold = click vid and go to 2:25 and watch - I actually told Tip after this happened that the issue shown there was gonna be a problem. Randy, the Demo ride leader who was kind enough to bring one of the new ones out into the parking area the day before demo rides began so we could get some shots of the new one next to Tweeks hit a glitch in the electrical system = never did figure out what happened.. I got a gut feeling that this is where the hold up is,, make sense? Personally I think it is honorable of Mom Yam to do what they did here.. Back when the 1800 Wings were first released, Honda released them with weak frames. I had access to the back room of a Honda shop at the time and remember vividly brand new Wings having their frames welded up at the shop = should have been a hold back. Polaris had MAJOR issues with their first year Vic's - a HUGE catastrophy when they sold bikes with junk trannies - not only did they not hold em back till the issue could be resolved = they sold em and refused to honor warranties on em = NIGHTMARE!! Even the biggy HD is known for using us customers for Beta testing.. While not defending Mom Yam in the least for the stunt she pulled with all the hype and naming the new touring Stratoliner a Venture,,, I do admire her for not putting out junk when she knows something is up...

Tweeksis has a Marks Collector under her.. I like it cause it seems a LOT tougher then OEM... Tweeks OEM collector is more braze from repair than actual metal - using it for a skid plate has its disadvantages so no usable collector there unless ya want me to it off at the headers and a person could braze it the whole exhaust system in.. I do have two other 83's that we CTFW's off of and are now parts bikes out back but I am sure their undersides aint much better than Tweeks (probably be scary just to look under em),, those bikes even had a rougher life cause I was younger back then and more apt to CTFW in obscure off road places = I have matured... All said = nothing extra layin around this joint for spares at this time... :lightbulb:Hunk of brazing rod and a 1/2 hour with a torch gets my vote = folks may be surprised how many miles per brazing rod one of these old scoots can get!!

My oh my!!! If that isnt a M1 1st Gen Venture than I am going blind - right down to the Clam Shell bags, rims and looky looky at those single piston calipers ... And that motor,, oh my goodness,, look at that motor... Not quite sure what the cam cover is all about though,, almost looks gear driven instead of chain.. Looks to be air cooled,, unless they hid the radiator real well... Interesting Randy = THANKS FOR POSTING THIS THREAD!! and for the link(s) = now I got more I gotta read about!!

Most folks that know me know I am a pretty thick skulled lop eared varmint.. As a matter of fact, so thick skulled that even my methods of CTFW are about as ancient as they come = I still trust my own backyard mechanic abilities and work on my own bikes, swap my own tires and even actually prefer to sleep out under the stars instead of Moteling it. I am a block headed purist with a deep belief in function over form = I really truly do prefer my steeds to be as basic as possible (I am known to remove "bling" if it is likely to get in the way of ease of maintenance while out scouting the back roads of American on a beat up old scoot - talk about being a bone head.. Anyway,, I was just reading another Magazine article titled [h=2]""The 5 Best Touring Motorcycles: Bikes For Doing Distance""[/h]While reading this article I ran across the 2nd machine on their list (right behind the Beemer GTL1600) = the Polaris Indian Road Master.. Tip and I had parked Tweeks, our lowly 1983 MK1, 1st Gen Venture that is covered with stickers that Tweeks has earned by hauling us and our camping gear on her back to all the places represented by those stickers, long enough to actually demo one of these 2nd place modern touring bikes.. I remember vividly telling Tip after the demo ride that I thought the Roadmaster was somewhat hotter (I truly had no way of knowing at that time, like I do now, that its ability to burn its riders was actually a desired characteristic so I spoke of it as a negative thing) in its ability to burn us then the Harley Davidson Ultra that belonged to friend who allowed us to ride his 2012 Ultra any time we wanted. I also remember mentioning to her, right after recently riding the new Star Venture (the article doesn't mention the new Star Venture - the article was written in March of '17 and the new Venture had not been released yet - perhaps the new Venny would have taken the place of the Beemer and sat in the #1 spot on the list as the Venture is also an enormous V-Twin with the much desired and necessary heat associated with the new touring bikes) that I had placed the new Venture right in between the Indians extreme heat and that of the lesser hot to the legs Harley. As I considered all this and continued reading, something jumped out at me like a spook in a cemetery when I read the first line of why/how the Indian was chosen for this honor - I read: "" the rumble, heat, and heft of an enormous V-twin is a necessary part of the road-trip experience."" Reading this is when it all began to FINALLY makes sense!! In other words = I FINALLY figured it out = how could I have missed something so simple!! Let me explain - but before I do,, do yourself a favor and reread that line above and see if something jumps out at you too: "" the rumble, heat, and heft of an enormous V-twin is a necessary part of the road-trip experience."" Not happening??? Read on and see if this helps: A number of years ago when I was in High School and just a young Puc, us future touring bike rider teens used to play a game where we would wrap a friends dollar bill around our wrist, take a lit cigarette and then attempt to burn a hole thru the bill without raising it off our wrist = burn a hole thru the bill and into your arm = keep the dollar bill and earn a burn.. Sounds painful and, as memory serves me,, it actually was VERY painful BUT - the pride that came with having a great big ugly nasty infected cigarette burn hole in ones arm during those priceless days was unbelievable - this pride was so powerful that,, if you had a "burn" (which most of us did) you were instantly accepted into the formidable and hugely desired group that I hung out with at that time,, no burn = not a real member of the team = a wanna be at best.. Fast forward to the current day and age of Tip and I spending some of our time out CTFW on an old motorcycle... Having long since forgotten about those days of yesteryear where real men (and ladies) wore scars to prove their worth,, neither Tip nor I totally understood the actual importance of what we discovered in the last couple years of demoing the newest, most technically advanced touring motorcycles in the history of the world, like the new Venture - that being the issue of "heat" and how it applies to modern day touring scoots and those that ride them.. See,, the little 74 inch water cooled motored Yamaha Venture motorbikes that I/we have logged over a measly little million miles on have all been covered in plastic in an effort to keep the scar giving heat off my precious kids and endlessly gorgeous wifes legs and feet... To make matters worse,,, my wife - TIP (stands for Treasure In Person - she has earned that biker name and grins every time someone uses it cause she KNOWS I meant it when I gave it to her) - has actually shown just how much of a sissy she really is when compared to all those other masses and masses of real deal touring bike passengers out there riding 900 mile/16 hour days in the passenger seat while scaring their legs and feet and enjoying every minute of doing so! Blunt honesty? Tip has actually even complained a couple of times of heat from our water cooled - plastic covered - tiny motored V-4 Yamaha sneaking out from under Tweeks plastic side covers during heavy crosswinds in obscure places (obscure to us,, I am sure that real touring riders and their passengers who seek out "the burn" and scars from the heat they paid so greatly for, ride these places during the heat of the summer by the droves just to get the need for those scars fulfilled) like Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada, Montana and Utah.. And then, to make matters worse,, instead of explaining to her that real touring riders actually do seek out the scars and memories associated with that heat rolling off their enormous historically modern air cooled V-Twins (sorry Tip,, I truly had forgotten how necessary that heat and those scars are), I actually added an extra set of foot pegs on the crash bars that protect the saddle bags on Tweeks sides so Tip could move her feet up and out of the hot air flow to keep them from getting burned giving us the ability to continue riding in high cross winds in 110 degree tempts and even crawl out of other situations like being stuck in traffic for 4 hours in California. Quite frankly my sweet love - it appears we cheated and I cheated you out of the opportunity to have earned those scars = I hope you will forgive me.. I have been enlightened = I truly have.. And I am thankful for this enlightenment.. My bone headedness is still giving me problems though.. My children, of which I have 4 and which all four have also crossed this country from one end to the other in the passenger seat of one of these under powered, lack of scar giving heat old water cooled, plastic covered, shaft driven cheater bikes have also been cheated of their rightful scar tissue from earning the burn.. I now cant help but wonder if I should reclaim the biker names I have given them until they are willing to lay their legs against the rear ward jug or exposed exhaust pipe on one of these history making modern air cooled V-Twins and take their rightful place by doing that which has been deemed necessary?? Or,, at a minimum,, be willing to wrap a dollar bill around their wrists and see if they can find someone who smokes so they can earn the burn that way......... It's not easy being a Puc I tell ya....

Right on! Problem is,, if the drug of emotion gets involved and affects that gut feeling, making a good judgement call can get cloudy.. My LEO dad use to say that if a person is prone to be affected by things like road rage aimed at him/her (or even worse - has a tendency to commit road rage = get upset with other drivers activity) and is the type that simply cant pull off the side of the road and let the road rager go on to avoid issue - that person really should chose not to carry a weapon.. It's sort of like modern day drinking laws,, the laws are set up to suck people into the court systems where the only ones that actually win are those who make $$$ (Judges, Lawyers = there's that old "follow the money" idea again - another one of Pop's favorite philosophies) thru situations that the victim of the drug finds themselves now intertwined. Those laws require people who are under the influence of a drug (alcohol) that by its very nature affects a persons ability to make life changing judgement calls at the time when they most need to make a good call (while under the influence and getting ready to stick the keys in the ignition) to make a bad call and end up in the clutches of a system where the only escape is thru $$$'s.

Prayers Up bro - PRAYERS UP!!

Yep,, my thoughts exactly N3.... Got a BUNCH of buddies here that all carry on their scoots and in the cars - almost never go anywhere without packin.. They stand in amazement at us when we travel all over the country unarmed and camp in the places we do.. I get asked a LOT about what I would do if confronted... Dont get me wrong,, I am a VERY staunch 2nd Amendment lover - lifetime NRA Member and all that but my response is - if they want my wallet, my bike, my shoes, my jacket = here ya go, no problem BECAUSE - there aint a ONE of those scum bags that are worth me having to sit the rest of my life in prison for or,, at a minimum, have to give all I own financially now and in the future to the courts and their scammers to keep from being locked up just because I buried one of the bad guys.. Aint none of that stuff worth it... My favorite Concealed Carry Rule (and something also that my father taught me - he was an LEO) is - never ever pull it out unless your planning to practice with it or kill with it,, its not a deterrent - its a life and death survival tool..

Hey Cruze,,, I for one sincerely hope that you do indeed get a chance to demo the new one - I am ANXIOUSLY waiting your thoughts... Something I would be interested in,, you mention how hard it is to get your 2nd Gen off the kickstand = please pay special attention to comparing the new one with this in mind.. I did with my 1st Gen and would be interested in your thoughts on 2nd vs 3rd.. You taking a passenger with you?? If so,, maybe also do a report back from their perspective - lots of folks are asking about that info.. Hope it works out for you to test em, while I am still pretty miffed about Star using the V-Twin instead of the 1700cc V-Max motor (I would be one of those bone heads who are on the other end of your "That to me is like being mad because a camaro went from a straight 6 to a sbc" comment - the way I see it - THAT is exactly what Star did - went to a six popper when I was used to 350 Chevy!! LOL) I still really like the bike and hope it sells well!! I am going over to demo the new Water Cooled Harleys (amazing - HD is going water cooled and Star/Yam is going Air LOL) this weekend hopefully.. Will also try to get a report up on those - maybe by Sunday we can have a really good comparison going on...

Maybe,, just maybe a retake on the Raider... Use the new (old 113) Venny mtr = give it the 6 speeder but drop the balance shafts and xtra alternator (like HD - "A" motor was no balance shaft = "B" motor was balance shaft) so now we can spin em up - rev limit em to 6500 - competition for the no longer built Dyna ('17 was its last year = new "Softail Dyna" is water cooled)... On another note - I been saying how much I thought the new Star Venture looked "Victoryish",,, wouldnt it be something if Star came out with something along the now defunct Cross Country, or bagger Magnum line... Still thinkin Arlen Ness jumped ship or Polaris sold some designs to Star or something = possibly a "bagger" line of the new Venny to compete with HD's Street Glide (their best seller) ,, you know,, lose the trunk and maybe some of the info system stuff.. HD did that and was able to still charge the same $$$ as the exact model (Electra Glide Classic) that still had the tour pac on it (a 3 thousand dollar option).. That one still makes no sense to me either (I am pretty thick skulled when it comes to this stuff),, people could have bought the Classic, removed the tour pack and mounting assembly - had a Street Glide and had 3 grand worth of HD touring equipment hangin in the man cave just in case BUT,, guess what,, the "touring world" (thats right,, these bikes,, like the new Air Cooled Star,, are the new Touring bikes of modern times) didnt want that - the Classic was HD's worse seller because of the extra stuff on the bike (people simply dont want to have to unbolt stuff I guess) and the stripped Classic at the same price as the unstripped scoot became their best seller.. REALLY = all true!!

Wayyy cool,, cannot wait to read their take on the new scoot. Hopefully they give a similar review to that of "Motorcycle Cruiser" that I just finished up reading.. Some of their take I noticed: ""The most technologically advanced luxury touring model in history, the Star Venture features"... ""massive 113 cubic inch (1854cc) air-cooled V-twin engine"" "" Star Venture’s new six-speed transmission with belt driven final drive"" just to name a couple things.. Shockingly,, right after reading the article I quoted from, I received an invite to a Harley Shop in the area who is doing their annual "Lowering of the Flag" - they will also be doing demo's of the new Harley's there - this will be this coming Saturday at Sandy's Harley Davidson in Fremont Michigan if anyone has interest. One of the things that I have read recently is that HD is now experimenting with the next advancement in luxury touring (something that our friends at Star Motorcycles either did not hear of yet or could not figure out a way to make work) ,, something called "Water Cooling". Not that I am not interested in what Rider Magazine has to say (I am VERY interested) but Tip and I have already personally ridden the new Star Venture and,, like many people who have spent time touring on far lesser technology advanced motorcycles (chain drive XS650 Yam's, SOHC750 Honda's and Shovel Head HD's) when compared to this new ""most technologically advanced luxury touring model in history"" and now we are EXTREMELY excited to go over and see what the Harley people are speaking about when they talk about moving touring motorcycles into something called the next step in highly advanced motorcycling techology with this thing called "Water Cooling".. From what I have heard so far, this Water Cooling business is suppose to allow them (HD) to not only increase Horse Power (something that not all touring riders are interested in I guess) and extreme stump pulling Torque (something that ALL real touring riders absolutely MUST have) all while moving the heat associated with Air Cooled V-Twins (motors that I guess Harley Davidson has some experience with) away from the human beings near the machine whether sitting in stopped traffic or moving down the roadway.. I have to admit,, being a lover of open road motorcycle touring and living in these highly advanced times with all this talk of high technology in air cooled V-Twin enginetry and now,, even a possible move toward this thing called "Water Cooling" has REALLY got my attention.. When we go and test ride the new Harley's this weekend and experience first hand this next new thing called water cooling, I am going to ask the Factory Rep from HD if he has heard of anything about another rumor I heard = something called "Shaft Drive" technology being discussed by the higher level engineers in motorcycle technology.. If he has,, one can only wonder if the folks at Star motorcycles will not only follow suit with a Water Cooled touring bike in the next decade or so but will then,, maybe even toy with shaft driven scoots shortly thereafter... Amazing days we are living in,, just amazing!!!
