Winchester I believe, FMJ = in a white box with red lettering.. Wish those .45 Auto's they had would have been 100 count instead of 50's,, I'd have grab a box or two for sure..

THANK YOU for the pic,, would LOVE to see more!! MAN-O'-METER that is Sharp (pun fully intended!!)!! Puc P.S. - sold a BUNCH of my antique air guns on Gunbroker before selling out the left overs outright.. Did REAL well on those auctions = GREAT site for the sport/hobby I tell ya!! That where you landed the Sharps?

CONGRATS on the total survival techniques you applied perfectly in that amazing act of proving you still got it brother = THAT is AWESOME!! And thankfully your family still allows you to test your amazing abilities in such a way.. My daughter came home from California for a visit last Christmas and, thinking she knows more than she does just because she is medical doctor,, took my 8 foot ladder away from me when she caught me balancing on the top of it in our living room to change a simple light bulb ... She promptly announced to my wife that she never, ever, ever wanted to hear of me doing such a thing ever again and then she told me she would send me a list of approved ladders for me to use for this task.. For an anniversary gift I just dismantled our living room and our bed room to have our carpeting in those areas cleaned and, in the process,, proceeded to drag out the ol 8 footer to change over to LED lighting in those areas... My wife, Tip, noticed my intent right away and within a matter of seconds we were on our way down to Menards to pick up my new 26 foot fully adjustable sissy ladder = seen below.. Amazing how things change when those youngens grow up and think they are soooo smart

Tip and I went grocery shopping earlier today at Meijers in North Muskegon Michigan and while she was working her fingers to the bone grocery shopping I snuck off and headed over to the sporting goods department (she fills the cart, I unload on the little conveyor belt, load the car and then unload the goodies when we get home = its The Code).. I discovered that Meijers has a special going on 9mm Ammo - 19.99 for 100 rounds!! Caught my eye cause I thought for a minute that the .45 Auto was the same but the .45 turned out to be 19.99 for 50 rounds.. Anyway,, got no 9 but thought I best stick this up in case any of my lop eared 9mm varmint shootin buddies needed ammo.. Thinking that aint to bad of a price,,, is it???

Speaking about brush guns, my home use to sit right on the Michigan shotgun/rifle zone line Don (been a number of years since I checked - may still be the line if there is one still).. Do you folks down there in Ohio have such thing?? I did a LOT of brush Hunting down in southern Michigan (where Tippy is from) and,, after a very short time, found out just how amazing even a shotgun can be for plowing thru the thick stuff and knocking stiffer than a board... I had a 3 inch chambered 870 Remington 12 gauge Pump that I picked up a slug barrel for and gotta say,, out to 100 yards it was amazingly accurate and that great big honkin slug coming out of that 3 inch chamber could almost bust em right thru solid oak trees... That sucker was nasty and kicked like a mule.. Hit a pretty good size 7 point with one once at 45 yards and it flipped em over like he got hit by a semi

CONGRATS to both you and your new scoot = now GET OUT AN CTFW brother:Bunny:!!!! That repair on the waterpump tube is a common one = easy fix as you already know.. The decel popping is VERY common if your scoot has any form of exhaust leak any where in its exhaust system.. Even loud KABOOMS are common place if this is so.. One of the things that can help is making sure your idle is set at spec = a grand, even with exhaust leaks this can help a little BUT - the real fix is making sure the exhaust has no leaks.. The collector on these commonly develop a rattle as the inner web in them LOVE to come loose.. I actually pulled a 2 inch by 4 inch web out of one of my headers one time cause it was doing what you are talking of.. Another common ailment is a rattle like you speak of that shows up if you have a worn clutch hub bearing surface but usually this stops when you pull the clutch lever.. Sounds to me like you nailed it with a collector problem thought.. Might still not be a bad idea to double check tire air pressures tonight - fill to max PSI suggested on the tire carcasses. Also double check your oil level in the site glass = should be in the middle of the glass when standing upright.. WOWZY =very happy for ya Ty!! Have fun out there, ride safe and take some 's of your maiden voyage for us if you have time!! Puc -
Absolutely with no doubt about it,, you and any other varmints interested in investing into this amazing new product.. Just make all investment checks payable to Puc and FlyinFool Made Off Incorporated and send it to @Flyinfool so he can deposit it without me having any knowledge of the existence of any investments therein.. Careful there Kretzy,, you know how things work around this joint,, all its takes is for some innocent bystander to make such a suggestion and then,, another innocent bystander to make a comment as to how crazy that comment was and before ya know = POOF,, ya can end up with one of us taking the challenge seriously and out of it some bone head will actually put on a pair of superman jammies and go riding thru down town Sturgis in front of a bunch of wild eyed Harley riders = dont laugh = it could happen!! See,, that story right there is exactly why I LOVE this place = VERY VERY WELL DONE BROTHER!!! Gotta say too,, I personally know GeorgeS = guy is a GENIUS and total GURU!! Sure seems like folks like George have gotten on shorter supply around here.. Still numerous geniuses around but seems like more and more are sort of disappearing from the forums.. I was thumbing thru the maintenance records that "DenDen" kept on the Tweeksis as her previous owner - now that person right there was another guru!! Yep,, to know of the likes of GeorgeS is a true honor aint it brother!! See @Kretz ,, what'd I tell ya,,, this is EXACTLY how things get out of hand!!

I hear that brother!! Comes a point in a mans life when its time to ride more and work on em less IMHO.. I been a life long wrench spinning gear headed mad man and ya know what,, days are coming here that I often think about no more wrenchin and only riding.. Whats happenin to us Roller?? You just an ol Hippy trying to adjust too:missingtooth:? Hey,, speaking of ol Hippies trying to adjust,,, take a look at this vid of the new one being unveiled at Americade in NY.. Notice the crowd in the opening shot located in front of the guy doing the world wide simulcast of the new machine, look right on top of and toward the back of the trunk on the grey Venture = should be viewable before you even click start on the vid.. Notice the varmint with the VR West Virginia International shirt (one of my very favorite shirts of all time = I wear it with pride) sitting in the front row just to the left of the announcer = just another ol hippy,, trying to adjust ***** P.S. = if you watch the vid in its entirety you will even get to see Tippy in there helping me with that adjusting - as if thats possible!!

Not me baby,, I have learned my lesson and have changed my ways.. This year I am trying something different and completely going cold turkey on .. Working pretty dog gone good too cause here it is the end of September and WOWZY has it been PERFECT for CTFW here in West Michigan = even better than some recent summer months here!! I should have thought of this a long time ago and left @Flyinfool and his infernal Wisconsin White Washer alone... Now all I gotta worry about is over spray covering me from other lop eared errant biker varmints down south and Fools twisted mind and causing him grief... I sure hope they know what their doing when they do what they do cause I KNOW from experience = Fool LOVES to watch those who have him .... -
NOW we're cooking with hot touring grease Chuck!! ,, you go over, under or beside those heads sticking out down there on that puppy ,,? ,, that right there would be the VERY best of both worlds IMHO = would LOVE to see a pic or two of what you came up with if ya happen to have snapped a couple
-
I figured that and pretty much read that into what you originally wrote = we think a lot alike 08.. You are thinking of a hunting gun,, something to inexpensively bust thru the brush with and knock down some deer = have some fun and not have a bunch of cash tied up.. Yep,, like Fool above,, I would DEFINITELY go stainless.. Even toss on some camo spray if I was worried about it being to shiny.. I would do it up in 44 mag flutted stainless and stick a cheap 3x9 scope on it for looking for horns with a set of see thru's or flip down mounts so I could still use my open sites if needed (thats how I have my 30/30 set up above).. That would be one deer killin machine right there IMHO.. I love the old school true blued weapons but gotta say,, stainless is soooooooo much better = can beat on em, put em away wet and not end up with a rusted out mess at the end of a long day in the woods.. Speaking cheap hunting stuff.. I picked up a BSA 24x scope a while back for 50 bucks.. Brand new,, got all the fixens (end cap extensions for sun block).. Anyone ever have any experience with BSA??? Sorry for the 08,, its a flaw in my flawed character..

Something really really interesting... A couple days before Tip, Tweeks and I headed for Americade to watch the unveiling of the new Venture and tour the east coast we stopped at our local Yam/Honda shop to see if they had any insider info as to whether or not the trip would be fruitful (they had no clue but said they highly doubted I was gonna get my wish granted for a V-Max motored new Venture).. After yakking for a while, one of the salesmen took me over and showed me a couple left over CTX's like yours Tooch.. NICE scoot!! Told me they were a hard sell here in West Michigan for some odd reason and offered me a brand new left over for $7500... Rethinking it all,, THAT was probably a real steal of a deal!!! Later,, bumped into a couple guys (father and son team) out CTFW in the middle of Nevada on a pair of brand new CTX's = definitely a worthy piece of touring machine IMHO = extremely quiet and very very worthy of the long road according to them!!

Probably sounds crazy Cammy but a solid mixture of Easy Rider and MC Jockey riding positions IS an absolute necessity for me if we are still talking multi day long distance touring.. I have never owned or ridden an 1800 Wing so I can not directly speak for them but, as far as all the prior Wing Models = they simply were not my ride because my feet were "captured" in a mid peg position which proved to be just as unworthy for a long distance scoot as having my feet captured in a foot forward position = neither allowing multi position foot movement while in motion.. For me, simply removing the lowers and the underbelly spoiler on my MK1 1st Gens, using forward crash bars (a MUST if you wanna protect that coolant tube on the right side from a major crunchy wayyy back in the mountains of Utah anyway) with a set of cheapy clamp on pegs snapped on em and BINGO = instant longgggggg range = 12/18 hours a day of total fun out CTFW day after day after day with no leg cramps, back pain or monkey butt... Also,, your wondering whether or not the new Venture is gonna run with the new Wing... Having ridden the new Venture and ran my 1st Gen neck to neck with an earlier 1800 Wing,,,, ahhh,,, NO,, not even on the same planet UNLESS those guys at Honda decided to majorly detune their present 1800 6 banger because the new breed of Touring rider has no interest in performance = if they dropped the new Wing to under 65 horse max then ya, maybe some competition. Maybe leaving the performance end of the whole touring spectrum totally to Beemer and that 1600 = my moneys on that aint gonna happen UNLESS the same people that somehow broke into Mom Yam's RnD department (Arlen Ness from Polaris?) and got things all mess up breaks into Honda's RnD department too.. Fact is,, this new Venture with it's 113 inch 48 degree V-Twin air cooled, heavily weighted crankshaft motor is aimed spot on at Harley Davidson and NOT at the Wings or Beemers.. That being said,,, having ridden a LOT of air cooled scoots (both owned and demoed) - the way I predict a genuine performance comparison in real life (NOT factory numbers to factory numbers = means nothing to me) would be that a stock Venture compared to a stock Strat (spent a fair amount of time on my nephews) = the Strat is gonna whoop it bad.. Venture vs stock pre-2006 88 inch Twin Cam = very very close!! 103 Twin Cam vs Venny = 103 will peel it like a ripe nanner.. Aint none,, and I mean NONE of them - Harley (less the V-Rod), Polaris 111 or 106, Honda VTX1800 even on the same planet as the Wing, Beemer or even our little ol 74 inch 1st Genners - those air cooled scoots are not designed for, in any way shape or form, competing in the multi cylinder water cooled performance orientated modern day engines world = I LOVE them but they are tractor motors straight out of the early 1900's.. Wonder if folks remember the out cry from Harley Davidson to the NHRA about what was going on in the drag race world a number of years ago as technology began to over rule the age old thought that "there is no replacement for displacement"?? Back then, when the Motor Company was serious about racing, they complained so much about the inequalities in competing Cubic Inch to Cubic Inch because of what was going on (little stock 1000cc Yamaha 5 valve R1's were outrunning Harley's x2 their size) that the NHRA actually caved in and gave them their very own drag category.. That is why to this very day we hear so much about "all Harley drags" in the drag racing industry.. IMHO,, even if Honda just leaves the 1800 alone their is NO WAY on God's green earth this new Venture is even gonna come remotely close to it performance wise in any category.. Now if Honda decides to open those heads up to 4 or 5 valve technology = very very possible that even Beemers 1600 is in trouble should one of us modern day touring riders actually still have any interest in performance.. ,,,, get out the way ya lop eared varmint tato masher ***** PLEASE NOTE ***** The above commentary was written by a varmint who's mind is twisted and very opinionated and, who is also a known source of pot stirring controversy.. The reader herein would be advised to consider the source of the stated commentary before allowing the above thoughts and opinions to affect his/her day in any ill way..

Cant help but imagine that Henry would be on the pricey side of a shootin iron... Now ya got me wondering Jack,, gonna go play on GunBroker and see what they are going for... Sure are really pretty guns those Henry's.. I personally am partial to the ol Octagon barrel's = sort of Buffalo Gun look to it IMHO...

OUTSTANDING!! That leads me to ask this ?? though Jack.. Back in my early biking years - mid 60's - to my knowledge there was no Ariel dealership any where near us here in West Michigan.. Did you have an actual Ariel dealer in your area = Sacremento? Indeed,, we had Harley, Triumph, BSA, Guzzi, Honda, Suki (hardware store), Kawi, Yam, Beemer, Benelli, Norton, Ducati, Cushman, Sears n Robuck (Allstate-Riverside), Penton, Hodaka, ACE/Steens, Vespa and countless Mini Bike suppliers but - scoots like the Ariel were extremely rare.... Thinking,, as a young gear headed backyard motorcycle conisuer I was extremely under priviledged and totally over looked - definitely sounds like I missed out on some amazing scoots!! All this makes me wonder what other exotic brands you and your motorcycle spoiled buddies got to see roaming around back in those early days = come on brother = spill the beans!!

This is what I am using now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vacuum-Carburetor-Synchronizer-carb-sync-Gauge-Yamaha-XS-XJ-1100-1200-5mm-6mm-/391372275126?epid=2213025123&hash=item5b1f9afdb6:g:vwEAAOSw2xRYaCCS&vxp=mtr and have successfully used this kit on everything from 1st Gen Ventures (everytime I change the oil on my scoots), early 750 SOHC Hondas and Twins, early Gold Wings and indeed, even one 2nd Gen (how bout that @mirider - back me up?)..This kit comes with all the adapters one would need.. I have owned and used many types = electronic Twin Max (got stolen), Carb Tune = slides got sticky and ya had to bang on it to keep em freed up = pain in the neck and even a good old Mercury Stick (replacement Mercury got hard to find and expensive).. What ever you end up with, I commend you on doing your own syncing and hope it turns out to give you the results you are looking for..

If it were mine, the first thing I would do is clean out the hole real well where the supposively bad threads are. Then I would measure the depth of that hole. Then, if I didnt know what size of metric thread I was dealing with, I would remove one of the other screws holding the cover on to help me determine thread size when looking at other screws. I would then dig around in my vast metric screw supply or head down to ACE Hardware or the local bike shop and find a screw to replace the lost one that is 1/2 mm or 1 mm short of hitting the bottom of the measured depth of the hole.. Once I found the new screw, I would carefully screw it into the hole and, by feel as I screwed it in the hole, I would determine whether or not I had cross threaded the original threads. If I had buggered the threads up, I would take a flat tipped bottoming metric tap (or take a Tap the right thread size and carefully grind off the tip of it to make my own bottoming tap) and re-chase the threads in the hole all the way to bottom.. I then would use the new metric screw to replace the one I had lost, I would also put a smear of Blue Loctite on the new screw placed into a freshly cleaned set of internal threads so I knew this repair was the best it could be.. IMHO,, I personally dont care much for Heli-Coil's.. I have used them and,, they dont always fail but I have seen them go south on more than one occasion - you know,, unscrew the screw and the heli coil comes out too.. That, and the fact that you still gotta chase new threads to use the heli coil so your oversizing the hole anyway.. I have found that by going SAE in place in Metric that you can usually just tap in the next size up SAE threads if the entire hole to bottom is ruined (usually this is not the case). Then you just replace the screw with an SAE threaded screw.. I know,, sounds back yard mechanicism to the max to lots of folks but,, fact is,, IMHO,, so is using a heli coil because the fully correct way of repairing such a mistake is replacing the case = lots of work = lots of ..

Those prices are actually wayyy beyond comparable HD parts pricing. Closer to Polaris pricing on their Indian parts pricing. Mom Yam has definitly entered into the exclusivity club. Wowzy,,, that is sad... I will have ran 6 tires off my 1st Gen this summer very shortly,, had that been on the new one that would have been 3600 dollars just for those 6 tires and that would have been if I were able to get them from a dealer who didnt run the price up on me. In other words, I dont wanna get caught out CTFW and needing rubber cause the last time that happened to me was out in Moab and the dealer there wanted 225 bucks for an 85 dollar 404 Dunlop.. Now couple that with splitting a belt by picking up rock while two tracking and there goes another close to 6 bills.. A new rear wheel is cheaper than a rear tire and almost the same cost as a new belt!! Almost like someone selected the higher use parts and ran the prices up x3 or something.. Wow is that sad!!! For those buyers who dont realize how hard on rear tires the 113 is in the Strat, this could be a real eye opener.. Good find Duey but sad non the less..

Here ya go brother!! Hope this helps!! Puc

If you look closely at this pic of the lower I took out at Sturgis you can clearly see that only the bottom two openings on the grill covering the lower is functional.. The grill slots above those two are fake and just for looks.. Behind those fake grill slots on both sides and of the lower case behind those fake grill slots are where lots of components are located.. I have never owned a 2nd Gen V-4 Venture but, as I recollect Mom Yam did the same thing with those scoots.. On the 1st Gens like I have ridden for the last 30 years, those electrical components were mounted inside the fixed fairing. I always theorized that Mom Yam mounted the stuff down there in the lowers on the 2nd Gen to reduce weight in the fairing because the 2nd Gens have a fork mounted bat wing fairing that any additional weight therein would cause additional "top heaviness" associated with having the additional weight pushing against the riders upper body while trying to steer the thing (common problem with Bat Wing design when used for touring purposes - especially in heavy cross winds IMHO).. Thing here is that this bike IS a Fix Wing fairing scoot = makes no sense why they didnt keep those lowers empty and place the components elsewhere where they would be better protected from falls, water and so on and, as you said,, make the lowers easily removeable.. I KNOW I am no guru when it comes to touring bike design stuff but this whole package still makes no sense to my pea brain...

Have done it successfully many many times John.. Using a tubeless tire in a tube type application such as your talking is fine.. Personally I would never do so using a radial tire though,, to much side to side action on the side walls would probably cause issues. Tell ya what,, hang on for a few minutes I am burning a video for you and your son explaining some of this stuff - I think you might enjoy it = I sure enjoyed making for you two!!! While its burning,, tell your son to go ahead and get started on his tire swap while he is waiting LOL Love you guys = my TEXAS HERO'S!!! Puc

Your welcome Ponch,, glad I could help!
