  1. Michigan's bad too.. Few years ago I got stopped by the Michigan State Police for riding the passing lane on the ick-spressway at night when not passing - were no other vehicles around.. After explaining to the Trooper that I did that on a regular basis as a survival tool.. He ?'d that comment.. I told him that deer were always trying to trick me playing around jumping out of the ditch at me and having that xtra lane between me and them had actually saved my life a couple times.. Knock on wood = he said "sounds reasonable" and let me go.. Scariest close call for me was Tip, Tweeks and I were traveling 50 (Loneliest Highway in America) headed west out on Connor Pass.. Had just summitted the Pass, was magic hour, 3 Cow Elk crossed in front of us as we made a corner,, slowed wayyyyy down, below 10 mph to watch em,, very short way farther around the corner and there stood a MASSIVE Bull Elk standing on the shoulder of the road facing us.. I road the center line very slowly and could see his great big brown eyes staring at us as we putted past.. All of sudden he charged right at us.. I gunned Tweeks and his body came within inches of Tips leg.. Pulled down into grassy knoll about 1/8th mile from there and dropped the tent for the night... Nuff of that nonsense!!
  2. Wonder if that's cause the 223 runs out of gas from being the smaller cartridge and not so much cause of the smaller caliber .. I had 22/250 bull barreled 700 Remington that was a real flat good shooter out to several hundred yards.. Seems like ballastically that thing had a muzzle velocity of 3100... ,, didnt Colt put that bump handle device on the 16 as an anti jam device? Any jam issues like that with the 14? Is that one of the things you were referring to when you mentioned the 14 being the better rifle DanL?
  3. Did it ever,, this new stuff is amazing.. I still cant get beyond sticker shock on any of em but my oh my,,, do they ride..
  4. about us having the new HD Tip and I had just demoed make a fool out of both of us, his laughter turned into a sneerish moan when he heard what I had to say about all this new touch screen technology nonsense. After signing up for the demo, Tip and I climbed onto the gorgeous $32,000 motorcycle and pulled out of the parking lot. A voice came over a speaker and said "turn at the next intersection". Thinking those factory boys had programmed the demo route into that touch screen gps contraption staring me in the face I obeyed it's command and hooked a right.. That same scenario played out for the next 1/2 hour as our touch screen guide took us all over the county on one of the best demo rides we have been on in a long time. We would probably still be riding that new scoot had the little person behind the screen who's voice we had been listening to not decided she wanted us to go down a road that was marked impassable.. When that happened I stopped the bike to play with the touch screen and while doing so I told the little person behind the thing that I would gladly head down that muddy motocross track of trail but I wanted to go home and get our tent first. Unable to communicate with the person in there with neither my fingers or verbally we CTFW in a back track to return to the HD shop where the demo's were taking place. All the other demo bikes were put away when we arrived and a lone factory rep stood in the parking lot grimacing at us as we pulled in.. In a very nasty tone he asked were in the h e double L we had gone.. He then proceeded to remind us that we were only suppose to have gone around the block.. After he calmed down I explained to him about the touch screen giving us directions and how I had thought he had programmed the route he wanted us to take into the annoyingly stupid thing. Once he realized what I was saying he started laughing and the told us that everyone there had tried to shut the thing off but no one could figure out how to do so. After a short period of shared laughter I started telling him my opinion of all this modern day gizmo stuff being attached to what once was a simple motor hung between 2 wheels. He really did not seem to care for my opinion that all this modern touch screen stuff could actually be deadly as, in my opinion, it seemed to be more of a distraction than it was worth. I shared with him that in my meager motorcycling experience, even taking your eyes off the road for 1 tenth of a second a the wrong time could be deadly. Of course, his response was that the modern day biker is used to touch screen technology and most, if not all of his customers loved this new stuff.. Sorta made me feel a little old fashioned if you will.. That was until I watched this clip I am posting.. Seems my thoughts were to far off when applied to driving a car. Sure am glad that modern day bikers are more equipped to handle taking their eyes off the road than these folks are saying cagers are!! https://www.today.com/video/in-vehicle-tech-dangerously-distracts-drivers-new-study-shows-1063179843526
  5. z GOTTA AGREE = THOSE SCOOT OF YOURS ARE GORGEOUS DAVIN!!!!!!! By the way,, I too had a Metz delaminate on me... Thank fully I noticed it before she blew.. Glad you did too!!! NICE WORK!! Puc
  6. Daws,, I am TERRIBLE with this stuff and far from any sort of a military person.. Is there any way you could forgive my ignorance and explain why that bird is "The First Lady" and why the General you spoke to may have such a strong attachment to it? Also,, can you elaborate on the General too = 1 star,, 2,, 4?? Any pics of him?? THANK YOU again for the pics and sharing!! Totally wayyyyyyy of a ride ya got yourself into there Peter!!!
  7. I got a .50 caliber machine gun bullet that a WW2 vet (exgirlfriends father who served in the Pacific Theater as a Sailor) gave me.. It was a live round when he gave it to me as a very young man but I long ago pulled the bullet out of the case and dumped the powder out of it to disarm it.. It's bullet is all copper.. It has no sign of painting on its tip.. Being as old as it is, what are the chances that it is one of those 75 dollar hard hitting outfits?? Anyway to tell with no paint on it?? Wanna see a pic?? Wonder if I can still find it.. Also,, when my boy was just a kid he and I used to have a blast going up to a place called "Steel Gate" up in Waters Michigan.. Steel Gate was (probably still is) a part of camp grayling in the northern lower peninsula of Michigan.. We were at an air show viewing the Cobra Helicopters when a Vietnam Veteran came over and told us about "Steel Gate" = said - I can tell you where to go to watch these guys practice.. Even gave me a video tape that he took of the area,, we went and checked it all out and = SURE ENOUGH = AMAZING!! Wayyy out in the middle of nowhere were two flight "towers" that called in the troops.. Bet that place is long ago shut down to citizens,, maybe not but I cant imagine it not being that way.. Besides getting to see countless types of aircraft fly in and do there thing (WOW are those 20mm cannons LOUD when those Jets come over the tree tops, tip em back and let em buck!! AWESOME!! Another was the Wart Hog when it would light up a truck when you didnt even know that bird was up there... Anyway,, we picked up all kinds of spent cases that fell outside of the fence area while out exploring where the tank two tracks were at... Allso got empty rounds of something with those snap together belt sections that hook em together.. Come to think about it,, those may have been 50's too... Got those memories in a box somewhere too.. My son and I had a BLAST back then... Raising kids is SOOOO much fun!!
  8. ,,, ,,, ,,, ,,, :rotfl::rotf::rotf:.... Wonder if those GI's came home and went to work as ground pounders used before for preppin for pouring concrete ,, .. I am SOO sorry Sky,,, hopefully laughin with ya cause I am certainly not laughin at cha brother!!! Seriously though,, THANK YOU for your service in defending our way of life!! Without folks like you, people like me would not be able to when our chuckle button is touched by a story like that and I KNOW IT!!
  9. :checkeredflag:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And,, to let ya in on another little trade secret bro,,, if ya happen to run upon one of the new V-Twin's and you happen to be out chasin around on an old, beat up, tired out 1st Gen,,,,,,, just smile and give the as you watch the thing disappear in the mirror.. Having ridden em = The new one is not that far off a stock 74 inch Panhead (maybe +10 horsish),, definitely nose to nose with a stock 88 inch twin cam Harley IMHO.. That big crankshaft being dragged down by not one but 2 balance shafts AND 2 alternators while trying to drag around almost 1000 pounds of motorcycle +payload = "what,, you talking to me?" when ya roll the spurs on er ribs LOL
  10. Talking to the wrong guy Snype,, no plans for doing such a video in the immediate future.. When ever crush a pipe or split a collector from using as a skid plate I just braze her up in place the best I can and keep going.. I probably could make a short video about "how much weight does 300k miles of brazing rod add to a 1st Gen" starring whats left of Tweeks for your enjoyment though.. LOTS of patchin under there.. Get this,, you ever hear of a "Mark's Collector"? It was a pretty cool replacement for the stock collector on the 1st Gens.. Well,, the previous owner of Tweeksis stuck one on her and I been having fun running it.. Works pretty dog gone good.. No box shape = more like a set of headers..
  11. INDEED!! Sure makes one wonder why those green tip with white under belly "RAUFOSS" rounds are so special.. Think I am gonna have to do some googling... Ever had the pleasure of touching such a thing off Fool?? Something else that's got me ,,, I wonder if there ".50's" are the same round as a person reads about from WW2 50 caliber machine gun.. Seems like I read a lot about those used as anti Aircraft stuff??
  12. I have been using the same shield for many many thousands of miles now on Tweeksis - it came off Tweeks so it really has a lot of miles on it and is plenty worn but still very usuable.. I keep the shield alive by using this stuff called Plast-X or something like that from Walmart.. It is very inexpensive and amazing stuff IMHO.. Biggest issue IMHO, is after cleaning with Plast-X to get scratches and stuff out, NEVER clean your shield with any form of paper! Carry a clean micro fibre cloth (I use mine to carry my sunglasses in in my tank pouch so I always have one) to clean your windshield.. If you have bugs on the shield, spray with water (just fill your mouth with water from your water bottle and spit on the shield = FUN!!) and then take your finger tips and make circles in the water on the shield until the bugs come free - then spit again and wash em off and them wipe clean with micro soft... I use Rain-X (heard Rain-X is coming out with new plastic safe product) on my shield but most folks dont.. Most add a coat of Lemon Pledge to keep the rain rolling..
  13. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!
  14. If this one REALLY does turn the touring world upside down in both huge performance, amazing handling and outstanding new comforts for both rider and passenger maybe you and I could by a new one together.. I could keep it here and run the socks off it April thru September and you could torment the poor thing down in the heat during your ride season from October thru March!!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW:big-grin-emoticon:
  15. Spot on Jack, here are some incendiary rounds on Gunbroker = 10 for 65 bucks,, http://www.gunbroker.com/item/704373369 Still way to $$$ for this ol lead slinger BUT,, if I was a wealthy lead slinger = oh heck yea!!!!! P.S. = The attached notes in that gunbroker ad are really interesting IMHO...
  16. :sign yeah that:
  17. HOLY YAMAHA RnD PEOPLE JUMPING SHIP AND GOING TO WORK FOR HONDA AND REALLY TURNING THE TOURING WORLD UPSIDE DOWN LIKE THE SAID THEY WERE GONNA DO BATMAN AND WOWZY WOW WOW WOW:scared:,, IS THAT GORGEOUS!!!! That HAS to be a photo chop shop job,, there is so much high tech, high dollar RnD going on there that no one but the extreme wealthy could afford it (if a simple design air cooled v-twin HD, Polaris or Yamaha is MSRP +$26k the bike in the pic HAS to be in access of $75k MSRP or something is really wrong in our valuing system). That thing has so much going on it's hard to even look at!!! Some things that my untrained/unskilled eyes think they see: = some form cantilever, mono shock, girder front end that, WOWZY do I like the look of. Did Honda find a way to pull the extreme neck pressures off the steer bearings and increase stability of the front end in the process = LOOKS RIGID = LOOKS AWESOME!! = is THAT a delta boxed aluminum frame spar like on my R1 I see ? THAT has to be a teaser!!! If that is real, Honda just got very very serious about hp to weight ratio's IMHO (although this mathematical ratio is pooo pooed by many torque minded v-twin addicts as pointless, IMHO - this ratio IS the benchmark maker for anyone serious about real usable performance). Is it possible that they, Honda actually went against the rules of engagement and are gonna actually LOSE some weight from their current wing? = is THAT some form of boosting apparatus on top where the intakes would be? Is that a turbo tube coming up from the front of exhaust manifold? = are those precision sport bike brakes I see
  18. Right there with ya Vaz!!! It will be interesting to see if past Wing riders who have been waiting for this next generation also agree with the past Venture riders who Yamaha's design teams responded to by going to an air cooled, belt drive big twin and see an all new air cooled V-Twin VTX Wing .. Wonder what those faithful Wing riders will say if the new Wing really is another air cooled V-Twin... It would be really interesting to go onto a Wing forum and post a poll asking just that; How would you respond to a new Wing if it were built around a belt driven, air cooled V-Twin? Personally,, my money's on Honda actually building a touring scoot comparable to, or even harder hitting than, the BMW1600 lots of long distance touring folks have been over.. I think it would be cool even if those guys at Honda upped the ante on their current 1800 by going 4 valve = get it into the 170 hp range.. Maybe pull the weight down to increase the hp/weight ratio.. Either way,,, V-Twin, 6 banger or 8,,, THANK YOU for the link Pix!! Definitely REAL exciting times to be a far rider!!!
  19. Back in '73 I spent some time goofing off down there, got out two tracking and found a Military jet scrap yard out there in the middle of nowhere.. Lets of parts and pieces stuff = wayyyyy cool!!! Also LOVED watching the F-14 Phantoms fly in and out of Eglin!! Thinking about the recent hurricane,, back in that '73 time period another one of those great big ugly nasty storms came ripping thru the Fort Walton Beach area,, ripped all the air conditioners out of the barracks windows at Eglin..
  20. This video is nothing short of AWESOME IMHO but,,, did he say $75 a round?? WOWZY!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. NICE but,,, ever seen the ones like attached to the clam shells on that MK1 Jack ?
  22. Wassup Cha!! Me too on those side rail's!! I have never ever seen those before!! You ever seen a set??
  23. :scared:,,,,, !!!! Po ahead Gunk,,,, make my day:stickpoke:!!! Thanks Corporal Newkirk = you really did = make my day!! Sounds like an AWESOME ride your having out there regardless of getting chased away from Daytona = WAY TO GO BROTHER = if gotta run over lemons ya might well aim for the middle so they turn into lemonaide!!! Fort Walton Beach?? I LOVE Fort Walton Beach!! Camped on the white sands in the sound down there a few times not to far from Eglin Air Force Base (wonder if that Base still stands) = had a BALL chasing those little, almost transparent, sand crabs up and down the beach... That area get hit by the Hurricane?? Roads still passable? LOTS of great miles there on your part,, sounds like that RSV is doing its thing in a right proper way!!! Stay safe, have fun and THANKS for the AWESOME road pics!! Puc
  24. Unless I am misreading something here, once again = getting to be a daily bad habit of mine, it sounds like you are talking about the bolt/screws that hold the slave itself in place = is this correct? If so and it were mine I would clean the area up really really well so I didnt start a fire, set a fire extinguisher (or at least a spray bottle with water in it) next to me, drag out my Oxy/Ace torch, screw on a small orfice brasing tip, probably drop my regulators down to 10 oxy and 5 acetylene or less if needed to keep the lil tip lit, after getting a real nice purdy blue tipped flame adjusted on my torch I would put the tip of that little blue flame right in center of a screw and I would hold it there till the head of the screw turned red.. Then I would do the other screw in the same way.. In my case,, and its probably not normal cause I am no guru when it comes to this stuff, brake fluid seems to have some strange affects on aluminum and even more so when steel screws are involved within the aluminum.. The stuff (brake fluid) tends to act almost caustic and can, over a period of time, cause steel bolts/screws to become especially ornry about being willing to give up their terrain.. I have also found that a little heat from the torch helps a lot.. Also,, it is possible that someone changed out that slave before and decided to use Loctite on those screws.. If they used Red Loctite = HEAT is a must.. If they used Blue = heat is still your friend.. If you do what I am suggesting here BE WARNED = you really really really do NOT want to heat the case casting = just the screw head.. Next,, what would I do if the bolt/screw head is screwed up?? If I could not get ahold of it with the nose of set of vise grips and put a set of 16 inch channel locks on the body of the vise grips and break em loose that way, I would probably heat the head to cherry red, take small chisel and drive a slot across the red hot body/face of the bolt and finish forming this new flat screw driver slot with the large flat screw driver tip from my hand impact driver while the head was red. Then I would spray the head down with cold water and use my impact driver to bring it out..
  25. Looking beyond the mess this scoot appears to find itself in reveals some pretty interesting add-on's IMHO.. Some of them I don't recognize.. Anyone else see things here that they dont recall having ever seen before?? https://muskegon.craigslist.org/mcy/d/motorcycle-for-sale-or-trade/6304752627.html
