  1. Thanks a whole lot Cammy - ya woke me up out of a fine Autumn, much needed beauty sleep:rasberry: Oh well,, here now,, may as well join in the :witch_brew:fun I still maintain/have a theory as to why Mom Yam failed us on stating any form of HP rating on the new scoot.. If memory serves me correctly,, HP doesn't cross over the torque curve on all gas engines until just over 5 grand = that is a given I believe. Also, in spite of the fun fact that not everyone agrees with this other theory I maintain, I theorize that because of the longer stroke and the dangers of pistons/rods coming unglued because of the piston speeds needed to cover those longer strokes (I think Mom Yam is using what I am trying to say here to make sure the new Venture motor stays together during long distance runs by staying within rpm parameters = who would want a Transcontinental vehicle that had to be rebuilt when CTFW transcontinentally?) Mom Yam chose to rev limit the new scoot at 4500 RPM for durability purposes and = 4500 R's is way short of the cross over point where HP goes greater than Torque so if they did state it = Mom Yam knew it's poor level of HP would be a liabilty and NOT an asset.. I know I have said this numerous times but my seat of the pants fun meter tells me that the new scoot is somewhere in the stock 88 inch HD Twin Cam motor range, mid 60's maybe.. If anyone is peering at that gorgeous Venture motor (and it is purdy thing IMHO = never said I didn't think those great big air cooled V-Twins were not purdy - WOWZY are they gorgeous) thinking ,, hey Puckster = I rode a Strat/Roadliner or Raider and that motor is farrr from putzy I gotta say,, I hear that BUT = this new one, thru items mentioned herein is neutered = big time!! That's my story and I'm stickin to it..
  2. OUSTANDING Zzz!!!!! Absolutely LOVE those shots = THANK for sharing them Ed!!!
  3. Got cha. Just thinking out loud here = those late model 103's had a temp triggered rear jug shut off to keep em from over heating when hot.. Wonder if that is what you were feeling.. Thinking the Motor Company called it "parade mode" if memory serves me correctly.. Its not that hard to shut off if you know the combination but, being a rental,, I highly suspect they would not turn the parade mode off = protect their machines.. Compared to your Victory.. Never did own a Vic but demoed lots of em and had a really close friend who had a 106.. I was actually shocked at what happened with the closure of the Vic line and how they didnt sell and all that.. I was also shocked that Polaris didnt use a little of their Vic technology when building the 111.. Those Vic's were "oil cooled" much in the same manner as our Yam's are water cooled = had oil jackets in the jugs if I understand it correctly.. Never did experience the heat from a Vic like that of a Harley or the new Yam Venture or the 111 (hottest of the bunch IMHO).. How did the HD ride compared to your Vic? Deej,, a quick FYI about Johnson City!! Picked up a chunk of steel in the rear tire just south of there a number of years ago. Got into a place called "Jim's Honda" - they treated us like GOLD = GREAT FOLKS!! One of the salesmen asked about Tweeks,, made a comment along the line of us being "serious bikers" ,, asked my background with biking.. After a short discussion he invited me to take a walk "upstairs" to see the owners personal collection of bikes including a couple brand new 73 CR250M Honda Elsinore's like the one I had told him I had raced back in the day.. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW:178:!!!! There is NO museum that I have ever been in that even comes close:dancefool:!!! Not just BRAND NEW NOS machines of all types but also = aftermarket race parts from days long gone by:thumbsup2:.. If you have the time it would be an AWESOME stop if you have any interest in biking history both European and Metric. I know the upstairs is not open to the public per say BUT = if you mention that a good buddy told ya about whats up there and asked about a private showing = you might just get lucky!! If so,, you will some stuff that will almost bring tears to your eyes!!!!
  4. Indeed,, if its grinding while dropping it into gear,, good chance ya got a clutch not disengaging completely. Bottom line, to much going on in there to leave to guess work.. Also, unless the previous owner actually did some digging and knew for fact the tranny was the issue = I wouldnt leave it to assumption that he was correct. Could be anything from a clutch issue to a stripped spline on the drive shaft to a bevel gear.. I think if it was mine I would center stand it, pull the rubber cover over the driveshaft where it goes into the forward bevel gear back enough so I could watch it, start er up and drop er in gear to see if the shaft is spinning = listen where the noise is coming from.. Also, maybe check the oil for metal particles.. Seems that if it is a failed tranny (pretty rare in the after mid 85's IMHO) - seems like particles would show up on the drain plug magnet..

    Hey PUC

Of course I remember Then Came Bronson!! I sing the theme song to that show a LOT while we are out CTFW!! Just never made the connection Deej BUT = an infinity of thank you's for the GREAT memories brother!!! One,,, of these dayss,, I'm gonna settllle down,, but till I dooo Puc
  6. Absolutely GORGEOUS scoot Rev = she's a BEAUTY!!!! to you on the AWESOME find!!!
  7. Dahhh,, probably the Blue Ultra sitting right behind that last pic of you and Z?? Looks like a new one? Waukee 8 107?
  8. ,,,, now THAT, that right there is what I am talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just dont get no better than that you guys!!! Thanks for sharing WITH pictures Silv, sure looks and sounds like you two lop eared tail twisting varmints had a ball = ROCK ON!! So,, Silv,,, what year and model was the HD? What did you think? Come on,, spill the beans!!
  9. When I was yakking with Terry Hershner about his vast experience with the "Zero" compared with my experience riding a scoot in California traffic compared to the silence of coasting on a bike out of the mountains was the fact that electric bikes are very quiet.. I asked Terry if he had experienced any situation that made him wish his bike had the loud rumble of an open piped Harley.. He laughed and said = LOTS OF TIMES!!! I suggested maybe it was time for the rebirth of the "VaaaRooom Motor" (anyone remember those?) that was popular amongest the rich kids in our area when I was growing up.. Terry didnt remember the Varoom motors but after I explained to him what they were we had a mutual laugh concerning the truth about how applicable to the subject at hand the thought of producing fake motorcycle noises really might be..
  10. This is what I am talking about,, let the capitalistic free enterprize system/market decide what is and isn't gonna fly.. That said, wouldnt it be wayyyy cool if, as a follow up of what Zude heard about here = the electric scoot turned into a submarine kind of machine where a person could strap on a set of scuba tanks and go riding on the lake bottoms!! The new horizons would be endless!!!!
  11. Ya know what,, I think you may have just answered your own question and the answer lines up perfectly with where videoarizona was suggesting. One of 6 of my rear tires for this season Tweeks - my 1st Gen was a Venom X. When I first got the X I noticed it had variating tread patterns which I thought was kind of cool looking and possibly good for variating road conditions/terrain. As the tire wore though I did notice a lot of very similar "feelings" like you mention and those feelings happened a lot more as the tire wore. DEFINITELY not a confidence inspiring hunk of rubber IMHO. Also, IMHO, if you truly are in fact mixing a radial with a bias = I would stay away from that just for fear of setting myself up for the same "feelings" in cornering you are experiencing. I would strongly suggest before doing anything else that you slip a new set of shoes on your steed before going any farther. I put a cheap set of Shinko's on my 1st Gen to replace my Venom's and all of what you are referring to in exactly what you are feeling instantly disappeared. Personally I will not go back to a tire whose tread does not match all the way around (does what I am talking about here make sense? I can make a short video of what I am referring to if needed? May just do it anyway, been a while since I made a video:stirthepot:). After experiencing exactly what you are talking about (not fun) I can honestly say that type of tread design is not for me. Another something that sounds crazy too probably but I also experienced with the front Venom after worn some what Vaz is talking concerning riding thru tar snakes. The new Shinko handled those snakes a LOT better = definitely a major improvement. Never owned a 2nd Gen so no idea if Shinko makes matching front n rear tires for them - perhaps Vaz or one of the other site guru's can answer that.. I do know that if I were you, I would pick out a set of tires that match in brand and that have continuous tread pattern all the way around. Either have em balanced once mounted or have the installer slip in some tire beads.. I think you will be 100% amazed at the ride improvement!!
  12. While I am far from a guru on this stuff and hopefully if I steer you way out into left/center field with my thoughts here a realdeal guru will jump in and school us both on this but, in the spirit of good ol campfire back yard mechanicism,, I will go out on a limb and give my opinion.. The throttle plates actually are more of vacuum control than anything else.. Most non CV carbed scoots that I know of (and there were LOTS of em) have no throttle plates (some do have something like a throttle plate that is only used for choking the engines air supply for cold start).. They simply use the slide and metering rod on the end of the slide to regulate fuel.. On the CV carbs with diaphrams like ours use - the throttle plates control the vacuum and the vacuum controls the slide activation instead of having a cable connected directly to the slide = make sense?? Probably not,, if not dont be afraid to say Puc,, your crazy.. If it does make sense = read on for more idea's from the mind of Puc.. The Main Jet sets at the end of the tube where the metering rod that is attached to the slide slides in and out of .. The Main Jet feeds fuel up into the area that the metering rod is metering. Most metering rods on both CV Carb slides and cable slides are tapered. They are tapered because they actually control the fuel for the fuel/air mix from right off the very bottom R's (idle) all the way to WOT (wide open throttle).. The main jet orvice that is replaceable and also adjustable in size in lots of increments is actually a big part of fuel air mix from the point the throttle comes up off idle all the way to WOT and basically shares this responsibility with the Metering Rod.. At WOT the metering rod is no longer in the emulsion tube where it slides in and out but is raised high enough that ONLY the main jet is in control of the mix at this point. Before that, starting right after the throttle opens off idle - its a mix between the taper of the metering rod and the main jet itself = still making sense?? If you pull a diaphram cover off your scoot and remove the diaphram with the slide attached to it, you will notice a long pin/needle sticking out of the bottom of the slide.. That needle is more commonly known in my world as a "Metering Rod".. If you now look into the carb body where the slide just slid out of and notice a hole at the very bottom of the slide area where the Metering Rod would slide into = thru that hole and laying right in the very bottom of it is where the Main Jet resides.. Make sense? Thinking out loud here a little.. If I were tinkering with what you are talking about,, as well as doing as priorly suggested in this thread - I would also look very carefully at the Metering Rod and its relationship to the slide it is attached to.. I would make sure that the cap inside the slide is still in place and that the metering rod is not able to move around because the cap/spring that holds it in place has came loose.. If this were to happen, the Metering is still not able to fall out but could bounce around = maybe causing irratic running.. Sorry for the long windedness,, I know, I get and get carried away.. ALways in the spirit of trying to help though
  13. Talking 650 dual sport scoots (early "adventure" bikes but I was in it real deep even before adventure bikes were called dual sport bikes = back in the day they were called "Enduro's,, named after racing enduro's" and Yamaha stole the name and used it on their early dual sport bikes.. Anyway,, I like to split dual sport scoots up by a ratio of road use friendly to woods use friendly.. An example is (this is my opinion formed from owning/riding both) the Kawi 650 KLR is a "tank" of a scoot when used in the woods = it would be 80% road and 20% trail friendly. The Honda XR650R is wayyy cooler for off roading,, definitely a worthy piece for both but more trail oriented with its lighter weight and more responsive motor (the KLR is CV Carbed - Honda is mechanical just to start with = Honda is way lighter too) resulting in more of a 60% trail, 40% road.. Either of those bikes have been popular for years and should be easy to find a good one at a reasonable price.. Of course, KTM is wayy ahead of its time and very popular in the Adventure scoot bikes.. Problem is (IMHO) that they tend to get pricey in both initial purchase and in repair stuff.. Other hand, if it matters,, is that in the enduro/adventure bike world = KTM is like HD in the street world = HUGE following,, almost cult like in its presentation.. The KTM brand was born out of the Penton world of the late 60's/early 70's.. I raced against a lot of the Penton riders back in the day. Later in life I got invited to speak at a Penton Owners Group/KTM business meeting and spent some time afterwards yakking with John Penton (founder = Penton Motorcycles) about the current Adventure bike world.. He let me in on a secret that many of the modern off shore bike producers see the "adventure bike" world as THE next step in the mass production of motorcycles.. That was over 15 years ago and, from what I see happening out in the modern touring world while out CTFW in obscure places = John Penton nailed it!! Suzuki made a 650 that, although it was more of an 80% road,, like the KLR,, it actually sat a lot more like the old twin shock bikes in that you sat more down into the bike instead of feeling like you were sitting wayyy up there in the clouds.. Problem is that anything in that design results in less boingering for the suspention.. Lots and lots of travel in the boingers is a good thing.. The Suzuki tended to be quite a soft/plush ride. I also dont think the Suzi had the following of the Honda or KLR and,, if memory serves - the Suzi was air cooled so not quite as durable. If it were me (if it were me and I was able to go back into the woods,, I would find another KX500 2 stroking RIPPER and street legal it = WOW do they fly!!) I would snag onto an XR Honda, set it up for my weight and ride wheelies coming out of the forests till the cows quit makin the trails slippery with their cowpuc:big-grin-emoticon:

  15. Got that right Jeff.. Only thing is,, I highly doubt that falling over at 200 mph on an electric bike would hurt any different than falling over on a fossil fuel one so those youngin's who will be riding them best start practicing on 2 wheels today.. ,,, looking maybe even farther down the road to future touring,, I cant help but wonder if these mini drones with camera's on em are gonna turn into some form of individual transportation.. Those little things already have a "return home" thing in em so if ya loose track of em all ya gotta do is push a button and they will come right back - pretty cool.. Be neat to walk out to my garage, drag out my drone, punch in your address, climb in the seat,, fly over the pond (draggin a fish line for Salmon), hover over your shed and drop an egg into each of the nozzles on the White Washer, land in your drive way, climb in your 2 seater drone and fly out to that Ice Cream joint your always about... The End,,,, take that back,,, The NEW Beginning
  16. :dancefool::clap2:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully that Therapist also warned you about fooling around in the shed where the White Washer is housed during these cooler days.. Guess you may as well plan on leaving that thing covered for a year or so till your fully healed and both you and that little Brown pooch are back to jogging 4 miles a day:ice_yaw-vi121414111 Jeff!! Glad to hear the good news brother!!!
  17. TOTALLY AWESOME RAND!!! DEFINITELY appears that electric motorcycles have come a long way!!!! Here is another point of interest for me that you all may enjoy.. Coming out of Canyonland N.P. a number of years ago we pulled into a fuel station (kinda pricey place - 5.29 a gallon for 85 octane). There sat a bike that appeared to be plugged into a 110 volt outlet, it had been "streamlined" like bikes that run on the Bonneville Saltflats, had some decals on it and just looked suspiciously like something I should check into (its a flaw in my charector, always nosing around...).. I Tweeks sitting on the fuel island and boogied over to the suspicious bike. Tippy went inside to get something to drink (cool off - it was well over 100).. The bike looked to be an electric motorcycle built for highway usage.. Some pretty elaborate fairing type work and lots of NASA looking wiring and stuff.. Tippy came out and told me that she thought she noticed a guy inside that had probably been riding the bike.. Of course we went right back inside to check him out.. Come to find out the guys name is Terry Hershner (sp), riding cross country on his electric bike. He was on his way to Ohio for some fuel economy competetion with the likes of Craig Vetter, Mr. Vetter Fairings himself (whom he is very good friends).. His goal was 1000 miles in 24 hours (good ole iron butt stuff) at zero cost!! Said he could run about 80 mph for almost 150 miles without a recharge.. I was telling him about our love for coasting downhill and about a 39 minute coast we had experienced at Kings Canyon last year and how I imagined he got the same "feeling" riding an electric bike as we do coasting down mountains - engine off, in neutral (the silence is amazing).. He was amazed at us for doing that - even let me to sign the back of his bike!!!
  18. Normal good ol Harley stuff Bexer,,, fact is - for EVER it has seemed to me like NO BODY paints a scoot like the Motor Company boys in Wisconsin = absolutely GORGEOUS!! These new ones have an amazing ride to em, the new "8" pulls strong for a long stroke, push rod motor and, IMHO,, the "sound" is back to where it should be = these are closer to an EVO big twin that a Twin Cam.. Yep,, I like em and would sooner put 30k in one of these then the new Venture or a Polaris if I was crazy enough to spend that kind of $$$ for 2 wheels and an air cooled motor,,,, IMHO of course.. It was an Ultra Limited Raf,, really nice scoot!! Had more whistles n bells than pimped pink Cadillac... Definitely 1st class.. I also spent time on the new Walkee 8 114 inch Fat Bob (NICE = love those pipes, wow is it light and wow does it handle in the twisties) as well as the 107 Limited.. Definitely worthy stuff there IMHO but neither on the same page on a good ol 74 inch 1st Gen performance wise.. Just makes no sense does it Kretz.. I know I am wayyy old school in this stuff and also know that "TV" is not really real BUT = IMHO,, Ramo's word's here cut right to the chase...
  19. If I had any form of my spark of yesteryear left I would go look at the 1300,, if, in my judgment it was as new or very close to it, I would buy it and head to Texas with a clean title.. Strap on the tent and put Tippy on the back to help hold it down, meet you some where close to "40" , trade you for your Venture, slip our gear on the Venture and head for California via the Luguna Burger place in Albequrkee... I like scootin around the country on two wheels and seeing what kind of mischief I can get into...
  20. ,, that was redline in 5th but not off the rev limiter,,, thinkin she coulda saw 180 bouncing it off the rev limiter... Crazy cause Maggie is a 6 speed (whole nuther round left in there) and as strong as she pull's, I honestly think she would bounce the limiter in 6th if we had the space (Tip keeps tellin me we GOTTA take er out to the Salt Flats),,,, and I wasn't such a chicken... Tellin ya Vaz,,, thing is amazing for a puny little 61 inch scooter:big-grin-emoticon:
  21. I still think that real justice will ONLY prevail when those in authority are forced to listen to the truth.. Kick the shysters butt, maybe thru outside news media,, until he agrees to supeenee that lady who knows the truth but has been threatened by the thugs, is scared and now is afraid to stand for the truth.. Get her deposition under oath and force the shyster to present it... Gotta be a way,,, where theres a will there's a way,, somehow.. Just keep some in the bag so don't end up back at your old job only on the other side of the fence bro.. Prayers Up!!! Puc

    Hey PUC

WAYYYYYYY and IMHO but, be forewarned = it's addictive!!! Makes that gorgeous Vic of yours POP I tell ya!! As far as official origin of sticker = I think I recognize it, my guess is: OR
  23. It's a V=Twin,, it's suppose to do tha
  24. After reading of the fun Vaz had on his 950 thru the years and not being one to be out motored. If I were you and I am understanding all this campfire chat correctly I would just have Tippy drive me over to this guys house and drop me off. I would ring the doorbell and have $2200 in cash in my hand when he opened the door. If he said no, I need the other $300 I would smile and pull the rest of the cash out of my back pocket because, in my line of thinking, $2500 is a very good price for an 80 inch cruiser that appears to be almost totally stock and isn't even broken in yet.. I am very opinionated I know but that is my opinion. The End except I forgot to show you the bike I was talking about: https://centralmich.craigslist.org/mcy/d/2007-yamaha/6343292491.html
