Thanks for reminding me of this you lop eared wild man varmint,, this one still makes my knuckles white when I watch it :dancefool:.. IMHO,, uncorked - that new Beemer American would sound sooooo pretty stretching her legs out across the Salt like the second vid of Tweeks.. Unstable over 101 mph because of a rear trunk = poopy on that,,, have to find out for my own self!!

OUTSTANDING FIND TRADER!!! Definitely a worthy piece of awesomeness sitting right there!! Get that puppy rolling this winter and come to Michigan in the Spring of '18 for a zillion hot dogs:178:!!! ROCK ON!!!

NICE!! I like it!!!

I have always LOVED those things!! Have passed up a number of them at the dealer auctions thru the years cause we just never really got enough snow to justify owning one IMHO. Back when I was still running dirt scoots I was part of the Michigan Cycle Conservation Club and alot of our group trail rode all winter long (night riding in the snow = talk about FUN!!).. Hardened "Kold Kutter" screws worked awesomely! It was not legal to just head out across State or Federal lands on a sled or a bike (we have "marked" designated trails) and the sled trails here were always groomed in the winter time (no powder) making those Kold Kutter screws the absolute MAXIMUM (5 gear wheelies on a KX500? No problembo) so very very few of the "snobikes" were ever seen/sold. One of my buddies moved out near Helena Montana and now sells these devices!! He SWEARS by em and contends they are wayyyy more fun in the open/loose powder of the mountains then even a high hp, long track mountain sled!

Thanks you guys,, your thoughts, prayers and "being missed" are ALWAYS greatly appreciated!! Gotta say,, I feel the same way,,, almost like a day without two way with you lop eared club member varmints tends to be a gloomy one at best!!

I get that and really do understand the reason(s) but what I still dont get is why.. Why do I need someone who thinks they know what is best for me to make the final decision of whether or not what they think is best for me is the same as what I decide is best for me = totally old school straight up American individual independant thinking - I know,, but still,, its the way I think.. In my way of thinking, those old stickers on the new bikes and quads and stuff that read = always wear your helmet, operate under adult supervision and obey all traffic laws should be good enough :big-grin-emoticon:101 I have read a lot about possible "litigations" being the reason for the limiters too.. It would seem to me that if the manufacturer says they are limiting the speeds at 101 mph because the bike can be unstable above those speeds that if some knuckle head now gets in an accident at speeds below 101 because he lost control - he could very easily sue and win against the company by claiming they were negligent in stating the bike was suppose to be stable under 101 mph.. Thanks for the well wish Riv - getting stronger everyday again but getting down right tired of foolin with this nonsense.. Truthfully brother = I'd rather be shoveling Wisconsin White Wash but I do totally appreciate your concern!! Casey and Riv,, I aint much learnered in tweakin on the efi/ecm/ecu scoots = more of a carb/points ignition old schooler myself BUT - I have tinkered with some of this stuff (almost exclusively HD). I am aware of and have fooled with HD's in using their "Screaming Eagle" tuners of the past which gave total access to mapping and making it possible for the owner/operator/dyno guy to adjust all parameters at will = WAYYYYY WAYYY cool stuff and TOTALLY my kind of thinking AND lines up with what you two are talking about!! I would be 100% good with this if it were still good to go.. Problem: Not to long ago HD got nailed for these "tuners" that left it all up to the owner.. HD ended up having to pay fines for these now "illegal" tuners (millions of dollars is my understanding) and had to purchase them back. There is now a "street tuner" available that no longer allows adjustments of certain things that have been deemed no pass zones. I think it is wayy cool that you could "chip" your Beemer Riv (hey Riv, did you happen to notice where that chip came from in Greece? Thessolinca? Wonder if thats the same Thessolinca as the one in the Bible = 1st and 2nd Thessolonians?? Ol Puc,, he may be slippin but his pea brain still dont miss that much!! Tip just said it was ok for me to order a "chip" like you got just to get something from the Thessalonians ) but I have my doubts that it included a speed limiter eliminator if your scoot had one? I just have this underlying thought that this speed limiter thing (not talking rev limiter - those typically protect the engine from grenading and most authorities dont care if our engines blow up) is straight up not gonna fly. Will the aftermarket have one for us? I think this is slowly becoming a thing of the past with smart motorcycles with big mouths now being the norm. Some of this stuff records every move we make including tip overs, top speeds, top r's, ecm's that are ONLY functional on bikes that match the original VIN's and on and on.. I know that HD has become VERY strick on what they will work on, what they will warranty and the like because of the outlay in fines they have paid. Maybe it's all this medical stuff I have been going thru or just grumpy old age setting in that is turning into some kind of a conspiritory suspicious type but I really dont like what I see happening.. Sing this to the tune of "dont fence me in" = Give me R's lots of R's with unlimited horse power at my control = dont fence me in.. Give me R's endless R's at my choice of when it's used = dont fence me in.

VanRiver,,, Hey Riv - been somewhat laid up for a tad here and spending some time poking thru bike rags.. I may (or may not have = depending on ones need for performance) have found the elephant in the room on the new Beemer.. From what I have read, they are speed limiting the American tourer at 101 mph:95: .. Apparently this is being done with the ECU (no simple little snipping of a little grey wire like on the Yamaha dual sport bikes of the late 90's). To many varmints I am sure this doesnt mean a lot but to some folks (myself included) I highly suspect that waving to an old 1985 1340cc air cooled v-twin EVO Harley touring bike passing them at 109 mph (their top speed back in the late 80's) would be problematic = especially people like myself who have ridden a sport bike (R1) that sounds similar to that AWESOME tone of the 1600 Beemer but has a top speed of 104 mph,,, in 1st gear .. Personally,, I like my right wrist to be the sole speed limiter.. Not attempting to brother but,,, common - give us 160 AWESOME horse in a scoot that sounds like a Formula 1 race car and then neuter it? Might be something in the water though,, some kind of legal stuff going on cause I also just read that the new Wing is also gonna be speed limited to just over 100.. If my hunches are true with the legal stuff (international legal/regulations having to do with the upcoming EU regulations that have been rumored for 2020) being reasons for this = maybe there is more to Mom Yam's decision to not go to the hassle/costs/RnD involved with using the new V-Max motor in the Venture.. Now I wonder if it, the new Venture is speed limited too.. We may be in the era of seeing the return of the smaller, less powerful touring bikes... I keep looking at pics of the new one and have developed another one of my infamous theories = I think Mom Yam engineers were right in the middle of designing that exact scoot around using the 1700cc V-Max motor and then something went hay wire and they decided to use the air cooled powerhead.. The more I stare at that new Yam the more it just looks like it is set up for the V-4.. Thoughts? Anyone? Am I on the right site? The one where we still talk motorcycles?

Congrats Ready and Family!! Hope you folks are 100% enjoying your new home!!

Dear Santa,, as agreed on, we are square - thanks a zillion..... Speaking about being square though, I went shopping for my new grandson Birdie's (Sam's) Christmas present and found this amazing present fit for young and old trouble makers alike.. WOW your elf's are doing a BANG UP job this year = congrats on the new staff!! Being Birdies grandma is still working thru the rule book on what grandpa's can get away with in purchasing for grand children under 1 year old and, with Birdie being our first, just a little overly sensitive, she thought Birdie might be better served with the 3 trucks, highway signs, snap together building blocks, rug with the "highway" built into it to begin his CTFW abilities/build on, a bunch of diapers and a trainer buggy for helping him learn to walk (so far) - I ended up having to leave the "Tiger" on the shelve.. After reading Big Tom's (and others wish lists too) it suddenly dawned on me that the Tiger would be PERFECT for most of them = especially Big Tom.. Below is a short video of the exact toy of which I speak should you need the recollect..

What to do for Christmas??? New York, Florida, West, North South?
cowpuc replied to etcswjoe's topic in Watering Hole
I/we LOVED NYC during Christmas = just amazing!! My daughter was going to med school at Cornell in Manhatten so we just lived in her dorm room - A LOT,, other wise = no way could we have afforded it (get your drift on cost brother!!).. IMHO,, winter time isnt a good time to learn NYC,, learning it is way more fun in the summer - just my opinion.. I guess you know what we would do dont cha Joe? We would, with out a doubt,, travel the southern border of the States and catch Texas, New Mex, AZ, Cali while its reasonably rideable. Toss on the tent and LIVE IT UP!! I know when we toured down there and visited Big Bend during the end of May a few years ago we were SHOCKED at NO bikes.. It was HOT but still,, not "summer" hot.. A customs guy down there told us that during the months you are talking = CRAZY with bikers - sounded like a great big amazing rally!! There are also THOUSANDS of miles of neat CTFW down there that, for most folks (at this age - most folks includes me) isnt doable during summer months - the time period you are talking is PREMO bikin (maybe get someone like @videoarizona to chime in here and correct me if I am wrong).. Personally,, I would make it out to "The Slabs" (google it) to play with the hippies, do a BUNCH of ghost towning, chase up some spirits in Tombstone and the like and then make sure I do a couple nights of night riding Death Valley (full moon - turn off your lights = like riding on the MOON = AMAZING!!! - WOWZY I would LOVE to do a Meet n Greet VR rally out there)... Regardless of your doings,, hope you and Bobbi have fun!! -
That most recent surgery kinda knocked the wind out of me and I am just catching my breath some so I am actually REALLY glad that ol Saddlebum (thanks Bum) has been holding off some @Flyinfool... On another note though, one of my kids will be flying in from Sacramento in 10 days,, if you two wanna really have some fun,, set it up so we have a real nice snow show for the week of the 11th.. I know last time this happened, her and her sister had to rent a car and drive back to California after Christmas cause we got like 8 feet in 3 days - they ended up having to stay an extra week and ran out of time waiting for the air ports = PERFECT TIMING for a couple ol lop eared White Washin varmints I tell ya!!!

Indeed Woody, and a very Happy Thanksgiving right back at cha brother!!! Sorry ya gotta work but ol Puc is hoping ya get quadrupal over time for doing so!!!! If ya cant have a big ol fat turkey dinner I hope ya get a big ol fat wallet out of the day!!!!!!!!

I know '17 has been pretty much atrocious for you folks my brother and I want you to know that you, your family and especially your brother are still on my mind and in my prayers.. I am just still speechless over all that has happened.. On the other hand though,, after just having my 3rd cancer surgery of the year a couple weeks ago and still struggling with recouperation from it, and looking back at what they found and removed in there back in January when I was wondering whether or not I was gonna get to hold my new Grandson being born in February. And then ending up not only getting to hold em but also getting to wear out 5 rear tires on Tweeksis over the summer with my best friend... Well,, it may sound crazy coming from a person who really doesnt feel good this Thanksgiving morning but

NICE!!!! Speaking from a prepping in case we went 3rd World all of a sudden though,, I think I would go shopping for one of these little critters.. ( http://www.gunbroker.com/item/719722056 ) I like the idea of being able to easily tote a thousand rounds and, I also like its durability factor.. Ya know,, something else maybe being missed here has to do with medical supplies.. I got a hunch that if the power grid went down so normal sewage handling abilities went south - it wouldnt be long and lack of food may be the worst of our worry's,, maybe,, possibly.. I had a buddy (more like a brother, his mom and dad gave me a place to stay after I left home and lived on the street when I was 15) who was really into being a prepper sort.. He had a small farm set up where he raised animals for meat and did his own thing.. He scratched his arm on a barbed wire fence, didnt take immediate precautions and caught some kind of strange flesh eating bug. After a few days of home treating the wound (like we all like to do) it sort of got out of hand and he went to the E.R... The Docs were totally ,,, admitted him, scheduled him for immediate amputation,, survived 3 days after amputation!!!! Less a week after the scratch and my buddy was a goner = HORRIBLE!! Sometimes I think we forget how close to having those microbes and insects and stuff take back over we are.. Things like Small Pox, Polio, Ebola and stuff are right there just waiting for us to drop our guard... My daughter who is a Pathologist does a lot of work with the CDC and I love picking her brain about that kind of stuff when she comes home to visit. She does a lot of blood work studies in dealing with all kinds of nasty nasty Cancers but WOWZY, some of those other things that are out there just waiting to wipe out man kind are even more spooky..

Yep, ya gotta either drain it or put a pan under it and catch the oil that will come gushing out when ya crack the seal on the cover... I did open one of mine up one time while out CTFW and laid it down on its right side first without draining the oil and it worked pretty good. Easiest to just drain it though as long as your working in luxury IMHO.

Good for you Dave!! I would do the same thing but I made a deal with @Flyingfool that I wouldn't tease em no more and he wouldn't crank up the White Washer and let it run for more than 15 minutes at a time until February so I can get my leaves picked up.. By then there will only be 3 weeks till spring riding returns so I wont have to officially put the scoots away....
-
I like it!! Only I think I would get bored doing something like that like he did, alone without Tippy with me..

Dowel Pin(s)?
cowpuc replied to Johnnycyclone's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In looking at this parts diagram: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50042d31f8700209bc789f05/crankcase and noting Parts, 2, 3, 4 and 5 I would concur that only 1 dowel is used for alignment purpose and that would be part ref = "5" just as shown in your pic.. Take note though = Personally, I would want to be perfectly clear as to what exactly parts 2, 3 and 4 do though as it appears that even though they are marked as "nozzels" they may serve dual purpose such as alignment and oil flow area (just guessing).. I would absolutely know what those parts numbers/parts jobs are and make sure that those parts are also in place before I snapped er back together if I were doing it.. Another thing that you can do is pull the dowel (#5) from the bottom case halve and just see if it will fit any other holes that look like they have been reamed to dowel size - if it does, maybe look around on the floor and along the edge of the top half and see if you find em.. You are wise in asking about this IMHO. I have rebuilt more than one motor (Honda singles were known for this) that had been previously rebuilt and had a dowel missing (or, even missing o-rings around a dowel that served as a oil flow = creating a VERY smokey freshly rebuilt motor).. DEFINITELY wise to double, even triple check the work before finishing the job IMHO... -
If you are still a youngen when the poop hits the paddle, the interpretation may be = Bend Over And Kiss Your A"nkles" Goodbye (slightly edited in case the youngens reading this is are still riding a PW50 - Family Site and all that .. If your bending over days are behind you like in my case than perhaps a "Puc's Interpretation" will better serve your future needs if/when the poop hits the paddle = Buy Oar's And Kayak's, Yamaha's And Gun's In the spirit of staying with this thread, it occurred to me that perhaps the varmints in our club who travel the vastness of our desert regions on less then perfect scoots can back me up and/or speak more precisely to what I am about to say.. IMHO, WATER,,, yep,, good old fashioned - clean drinkable WATER should be on the top of anyone's list if you truely want to prepare.. That probably sounds crazy but, IMHO,, it is amazing how fast things can go down hill (less than 24 hours with no water can be problematic with DEATH in less then 3 days in a desert setting) when no water is available.. Here,, during the modern days of my lifetime,, I have personally rescued more than one person out in the desert regions who's car/bike had broke down and they needed water NOW! I have also had people openly laugh at the gallon jug of water that hangs on the side of my scoot and when asked "what is that dorky looking thing?" replied with a grin "you have obviously never camped or had a break down in the desert have you".. Truthfully,, it was very common for people to "fast" (go without eating) for +30 days back in the Biblical days and, in modern times - hunger strikes are known to go on even longer than that BUT = WATER,, water is an absolute!!! All that said, I want each of you preppers who are members here to remember something.. Ol Puc has a pretty good supply of drinkable water in storage right out his front door (Lake Michigan) that he keeps under lock in key just in case.. My plan is to use this water supply for bartering purposes BUT,, if your an upstanding member here in our MC club and crisis happens, you can depend on me for your H2O needs.. The End - well not yet,, but cha never know

Quick Release Tour Pack?
cowpuc replied to grubsie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
:sign yeah that::sign yeah that: """""and it was STANDARD on our Mk1's!!!!!!!"""""" Ya still gotta buy the docking plate and hardware for the HD's to convert them over to quick release but I TOTALLY agree that NO ONE - bar NONE - has the "make it like you want it" parts availability like HD does. Plus, no joke, their quality is second to none even in their clothing.. Grubs,, I have always thought that if I somehow found a path away from these MK1's and on to a 2nd Gen the first thing I would have to do is undergo the project you are speaking of.. Matter of fact,, I also often thought that if I landed a MK2 Gen1 I would have to transform it into MK1 too.. GOTTA BE DOABLE GRUBS!! :fingers crossed:that you share your project with pics and stories when you do it cause I KNOW there are folks here who would appreciate it - mayself included!! By the way,, helped my neighbor tear apart his Ultra Limited not long ago to install the quick release dock for the trunk on his scoot.. Seemed like he had just under a grand in hard ware for the job and it took as couple hours to complete the job (not bad).. WOWZY did that change the look = instant bagger and a GORGEOUS bagger too!! Seems like Mom Yam had it right with our MK1's and this would be standard on all touring bikes, I mean,, COME ON,, it's only been 34 years
