Mecum Auctions? Any of you lop eared varmints ever dealt with em?
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
lol,,,,, LOL,, LOL,, good one Spence LOL... Nooo,, no no no,,, wasnt me LOL.. I showed this to Tippy and she and then said THANKFULLY that wasn't,, is not on your bucket list LOL.. I/we did win the bid on a gorgeous 67 but ended up with a mess up in the auction and the seller would not let it go for the amount of the bid.. They (Mecum) REALLY put the pressure on the sellers to remove the reserves and I think there was a mess up in communications therein.. Oh well, back to the drawing board.. I am currently working on a deal on a 66 Big Block roadster in California, not to far from the kids so I have a storage place for it till spring if it all works out. -
Let cha in on a little secret,, Tweeks, Tweeksis's sister, got bad enough in her oil usage (mostly leakage) when she crossed the 250k mile point that I regularly kept track of her oil using the throttle and the oil level gauge. I would just hit her hard once in a while when taking off and watch her oil light. If the light came on for more than a few seconds I knew it was time to add a quart. Her last 30k miles I rarely changed her oil, I just kept dumping in fresh when her light said it was time and peridocially stuck in a new filter. Now that I think of this,, does the 2nd gen even have a Oil Level monitor light on the dash? Not sure.. If not, that one off method of checking your oil is probably not relevant.

Back in my more adventurous days I actually made a set of those things out of leather I got from soaking large dog chew "bones" in water to soften the leather, cutting it into strips and stretching it over a couple sassy frass branches I cut down out of my dads front yard.. Now that I think about it,, Bum,, your cache is a lot nicer looking than mine were.. Quick question, are you absolutely positive that you got both those Dutch White Wash shoes (aint saying the S word - Fool may be down but he aint out) from your buddy Carl? I always thought the Dutch only used one white wash shoe and that caused them to walk in a circle resulting in the person doing the walking always finding their way home for dinner...

Hi Unc!! @uncledj , those Nighthawks were fine scoots - you got yourself a worthy project there of which I implore you to work thru it step by step and end up getting to experience the breeds real/full potential. Because of that Honda's vintage and also the demand for them back in the day I ended up refurbishing more than one of them. From that I divulge my amature knowledge of such. They did have some particulars you might want to be aware of: The Nighthawks real achilles heel from my experience can be found in Honda choosing to use hydraulic lifters in them. All of the ones I brought back to life had to have those lifters addressed. The lifters are tiny, about the size of your pinky finger from the 1st joint forward. The tiny feed holes that feed the lifters love to plug up causing lifter collapse and ending up destroying the top end, especially found with bikes that have not been run for a while. Another issue therein also has to do with cam saddles being dry from sitting and ending up smudging at first start up after a long sitting time. The answer to both is not trying to start the bike but to pull the covers and make sure the lifters are cleaned, cams prelubed before cranking her up. I ALWAYS also double check the fuel tank to make sure no rust is in there. If you find rust, a product called Red Kote will become your best friend. BAR NONE (and I have experimented with many), Red Kote is the best of the best. As far as the carbs go you can always safely use spray carb cleaner as sold at Menards or Auto Zone iinjected into the carbs with a syringe like I have mentioned on the site many times if you dont want to pull the carbs and/or do the full tear down of the top covers on the valves like I mention. Simply remove the throttle slide from an outside carb so you can look inside of the carb body and watch the amount of fluid you are injecting. Now open the drain, fill the syringe (large horse syringe like found at Farm/Fleet) with the spray, fill up but note on the syringe where you are starting the injection. Hook up with hose, inject and watch the emulsion tube where the metering rod attached to the slide slips into the emulsion tube (that metering rod controls the amount of fuel entering the carb thru the main jet). Keep pushing cleaner in until you see cleaner coming out of the emulsion tube hole. When you see the fluid coming out of the emulsion tube hole STOP - close the drain and note how much fluid you have used from the syringe. Now do all the other carbs with the same amount of cleaner. You can let that spray cleaner set for days,, wont hurt a thing. I have tested numerous cleaners and found Seafoam useless for active cleaning, as mentioned - Berrymans B-12 works great but you gotta not leave the stuff for extended times or it will effect rubber parts - I have used B-12 successfully for years. The very very best cleaner I have ever used is Chem-Dip but that stuff is real active,, any more than 1/2 hour soak without a good thurough cleaning/flushing and stuff inside will be wrecked. I have successfully used Chem-Dip though - just gotta work fast and beware that you eventually may be rebuilding carb Unc, I know you have been inside of our V-4 carbs,, remember those 700's carbs are only 1/2 the size of our V-4's. The idle circuitry in their will be hair size in spots BUT if those hair sized passages are not open and clean the bike will never run right. Looking at what I see in your post, if it were mine I would just go ahead, pull the top down, prelube, put a teaspoon of Mystery Oil in each jug, spin the motor with drill motor with the plugs out, drop a compression guage on it to make sure it had good compression, pull the carbs if it does, and do a real good thorough cleaning of the carbs with a CHEM-DIP soak of the disasembled carbs. Seal the tank if needed. Put it all back together, put a 1/2 teaspoon of raw fuel in each pot and screw in new plugs each gapped correctly so it pops right off at first push of the button. Beware when ya go to riding her ya lop eared varmint.. Those little 700's were big twin slayers!! Been a long time since I saddled one but I am thinking your looking at 80/90 horse at the wheel there and on that light little sucker,, FUN!!!

Steve, Tip wanted me to ask you,, is Disney and the area surrounding Disney (Orlando/Kissimee) still in full swing, resturants and the like or are you folks under the same CCP Virus close down, lock ups as we are? Here in Michigan even the fast food joints are closed except for drive thru's. We celebrated our 40th Anniversary down there (had a planned trip to Hawaii canceled because of the virus so we went down there to Florida and played in the Glades/Keys instead) in September when Michigan was closed too and DeSantis still had Florida open. Are you folks still open for business as usual @M61A1MECH? THANK YOU for the well wish on the bidding!! Puc

No ya lop eared salt air suckin varmint,, I think that warm southern air is messing up my messages or something,, it IS the 67 Roadster that I am looking for, lot B25 at the Muscle Car Museum auction on Saturday defines it exactly and is very possible what will draw Tip and I back down there on that weekend. The only reason I mentioned the 66 was, even though the tri-power was not available in the 66 427 but I may still consider one as I can add tri-power to it and end up with my bucket list C2 427 tri-power. You sound like my daughter out in Sac = sure Dad,, you can keep it in my garage as long as you leave the keys in it in case I have to move it .. Those Museum cars are all in NON RUNNING condition/prepped for museum storage. I had a 1942 Harley war bike (her name was Olivia) that our local WW2 war museum (Silverside submarine is part of it) wanted me to store there. I was SHOCKED at the level of Museum storage prep I would have had to go thru to allow them to show the bike and did not do it BUT I do know those cars will need a fair amount of resurrecting to be driveable. Maybe you and that varmint Barry could push it to your place? LOL

Heyyy,, hiya @M61A1MECH,,, wassup.. Colder than a witches,,,oh never mind, would give ya nightmares if I told ya how cold it is up here LOL. THANK YOU Steve!! Greatly appreciate the heads up on the Vette.. Being this is one of my bucket list items so reason has nothing to do with this (like it ever did in my case) but I gotta have a Roadster. I may,, and I find this somewhat difficult to know for sure whether it will fly in the end, do a 66 427 Roadster Vette and be willing to over look the missing tri-power knowing they did not come with 3 dueces in 66 but the fact the 65 Big Blocks were 396,, those are out too - gotta be a 427. I REALLY do appreciate the link though my friend!! THANK YOU! Knowing you are in Florida I another question concerning the matter if you don't mind.. Mecum has a big auction happening in Kissimee (sp) all this week. I am signed up with Mecum for the year and, going thru thier kissimee cars - I see they have at least (1) Vette I am interested in starting with Thursdays auction. Then the following Saturday down in Punta Gorda at the Muscle Car Museum (place must be closing their doors) there is also 1.. All that said, and having never lived in Florida (spent a fair amount of time playing down there though - touring/camping in the weeds of the Everglades and LOVE the ocean air odors of SALT water in the air so that is why I ask this - probably LAME question) I need to ask someone who will be honest about RUST.. Do Florida cars have issues with rust? Any thoughts? From the hip, give it to brother! Thanks Puc

THANKS JACK - BEEN A WHILE!! I actually had the honor of meeting @GeorgeS years ago at the Venture West The Delles, Dalles, Dellas Rally (how do you spell that @Condor ) .. I hope he chimes in as I would love to hear from him!! If George was in Ham he will have the scoop on mounting on a scoot!! P.S. George - the speedometer worked AWESOME!! Puc -
THAT is GORGEOUS Roller!! @slowrollwv,,, is your Remington one of those R1's that is double stacked in the mag?? Shootin from the hip here ( ) ,, it seems I remember seeing a Remington 1911 once in a Shooting magazine that was a high cap,, not one like yours was it?? Chuck,, did I ask you that once before?? Tweeks aint the @only one slipping gears these days,, I may have lol.. What dah heck brother,, its winter,, lets see her innards.... Still yakking 1911's,, hey ya lop eared varmint,,, you and that Sly varmint ( @Sylvester ) and maybe even @Flyinfool and @Condor,,, you varmints seem fairly knowledgable about 1911's.. Take a look at the front of my beat up old 1911,,, notice the National Match # on the bushing - that mean anything to you? How about the Bo-Mar sites? I had a gunsmith evaluate mine for value recently (was told its value was under $300 by someone interested in it a while back so I took er in for a second opinion) who made some interesting points about it (gunsmiths tend to be deep thinkers,, at least around here). I have friends who stopped shooting with me and my '11 cause the little shooter is possessed,, thats right,, it has a mind of its own and that mind makes it never miss,, it is VERY accurate even out past 75 yards and I shared that experience with the smith... He said it was obvious that some very knowledgable individual had hand fit her vital organs. There is more to the story but I will just leave it at that and see what you lop eared shooter loving varmints think... Thoughts?

DEBUNKING THE ANTI-AMERICAN FAKE NEWS AMMO SHORTAGE REPORTS!

DAWS I am 100% with you on the rather have them not know my brother BUT,, I am trying to promote a new movement up here.. I am promoting Jan 6, 2021 as our first NATIONAL OPEN CARRY DAY = a Patriots Holiday!! Just thinking how cool it would be to see Americans taking advantage of their Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear and also as a reminder to those who hate our way of life that there are still some ready/willing to defend it. I wish we could get Constitutional Carry here too brother!! Lots of Western States have it (not west coast), one of those things I ALWAYS appreciated about the west!! -
Exactly BP,, AFTER SURGERY!! My hand had been closed up for so long that the skin could not be stretched out for stitching. I ended up with the coolest open wounds I have ever seen! You ever see the show Terminator with Arny? Looking into my hand reminded me a lot of one of those robots,, I could watch the tendons pull and muscles work right there in front of me.. It made Tippy gag a little and did make me light headed some what BUT,, not that dissimalar from the operating parts of Deer I/we had processed thru the years so it wasnt that bad. I never even had heard of open wound healing before that happened to me. Had to completely dismantle the bandaging 3 times a day and run water over the gaping holes you see.. It took about a week but tiny little bubbles of new growth started taking place right over the muscles/bone/tendons that were exposed.. They looked like tiny little fish eggs.. As time went on skin formed and now look at what is left (see pic).. The creation of our bodies and its ability to heal is down right amazing @bpate4home!!! I just took the pic,, this is what those wounds look like today!!

OUTSTANDING @RDawson!!! Wish we were closer to your reality than this world of socialism that Michigan has drifted into. I have a friend whose Dad was a Marine in WW2,, he has all his fathers battle gear including his Marine knife with brass knuckles attached that would be so awesome to carry but 100% not legal here,,, soooo cool though!! Hey ya lop eared freedom loving varmint,, can you Patriots down there still buy Switch Blades over the counter? Real ones? The Stiletto with the blade out of the front switch blade? THANK YOU FOR THE PIC OF THAT AWESOME SHOOTER CORPORAL NEWKIRK!! Puc -

You lop eared varmints to know that pictures, not stories, make it real dont cha? -
I am 100% tracking with you @gmarshall,, matter of fact - a few years ago before my body decided to go on an extended vacation I would be allllll over that! Also,, matter of fact, I use to play around some with leather stuff,,, even to the point of soaking those great big doggy chew bones of folded leather in water to soften em up to repurpose the leather for making snow shoes and stuff, yeahhhh,,,, sounds like fun Marsh.. The only problem for me is my wrench spinning,, fun with my hands days are pretty much over. I am one of those lop eared varmints who got blessed with Dupundrens.. I had my right hand repaired a few years ago with pretty good recovery all except of the part where I can feel anything - gotta really watch carefully to get even a 15mm socket stuck on a 1/2 drive ratchet to stick to my hand nowadays.. My left hand is even more numb than the right one that they repaired and is pretty much closed up and useless - still waiting for Michigans Govna to release us for non life threatening surgerys so I can get my left one hacked on. What I will probably do is wait for the small shops to open up, pick up a toy full sized 1911 and find me sa cowboy rig somewhere to test the fit.. I do REALLY appreciate the thought though Marsh!! Thats a good one!! Puc

You are more than welcome @Condor,, I knew you of all people would really appreciate it .. Made my heart jump for joy and do the pitter patters too,, I totally get that! One of the things I really still do not get is what you are leading too, I get the 556/308/300 black out and even the 22lr but,, 30-30? Jack, I am holding a box of 30/30 shells in my hand that are marked $8.97,, something I picked up a few years ago so my daughter could touch off a few rounds in my Savage 340C. I was shocked to see a box of them at a gun shop a couple weeks ago for $87.50... That would be $87.50 for 20 rounds LOL. I reckon that is why another gentleman drove from Detroit over to our home in Muskegon to pick up the last 5 boxes of 556 I had forgot I had for my AR.. This was on New Years Day, during one of @Flyinfool 's infamous WWW white outs and the cheerfully handed me 50 bucks for them while mumbling Detroit is out of ammo.. CRAZY!! Hey Jack, in a last ditch effort to hi-jack (HI JACK = pun intended) got some birthdays coming up,, any idea how bad 80's been doing thru Reno, Donnor and all places between your place and Sparks? All was well coming home but those hiway gates always cause me pause.. Puc -
Oh my gosh,, @gmarshall you nailed it!! Check this out: From this thread at "Sass - Wild Bunch" forums: https://www.sassnet.com/wildbunch/forum/index.php?topic=2567.0 "That deal from J.Frank sounds pretty good. But I do as Abe mentioned. My 1911 fits into several of my SAA holsters, but the one I use is a 20-year-old Mernickle rig. Fits and looks just fine. I finally got some matching mag holder slides made for it, as I had been using vest pockets and some really flimsy home-made holders from dollar store cell phone holders http://sassnet.com/wildbunch/forum/Smileys/default/smiley.gif But I've also noticed, at least around here, that the local matches are letting folks stage their magazines so really you might get away with that for a while.""" Now I wonder if this would not be PERFECT!! Anyone ever tried such an idea with a 1911? https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-44-45-Cal-Tooled-Holster-Gun-Belt-Drop-Loop-LEATHER-Western-RIG-SASS-Cowboy/312589023885?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200520130048%26meid%3D552f13259732413193ab258d6cd8e8c1%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D282959375876%26itm%3D312589023885%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWebWithDarwoV3BBEV2b%26brand%3DHandmade&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Ohhhh yea my brother, matter of fact, even if I stand alone here in Muskegon Michigan in my endeavor I am starting a new movement and personally declaring January 6th, 2021 our Nations 1st "National Open Carry Day" to give forewarning to any and all Socialist/Communist/BLM/Antifa/Anti 2nd Amendment America freedom haters a taste of what this beat up old geezer see's as the true meaning of "The Right To Keep And Bear" and my 1911 will be found faithfully hanging on my side during that occasion !! Hey Sly,, get this,, I told Tip I may just look around for a Holster maker and see if I can locate someone who produces an old Cowboy rig (you know the type, think Marshall Dillon),, quick draw outfit,, that fits the 1911. Think that would be wayyy cool,, reaching down and tieing that leg string at the bottom with my 1911 hanging there at me.. Your eternal brother right back at cha!! Puc
