GOT THAT RIGHT So far I have an electric tricycle that Birdie and I gotta repair for him to ride when gets two... Then I got a little lawn mower engine mini bike for em when he turns 4, then I have a Honda CT70H (4 speed w/ clutch) for em when he turns 5 and I have an 01 Kawasaki 100 with 400 miles on it sitting down there for his 8th birthday.... Gotta plan ahead you know!!!

Yep,, all good thoughts IMHO... I would probably get myself in trouble and assume right away that its the ol plugged carb circuitry if it were mine.. Under that assumption I would probably rip the air filter out of er and check to see if the air box had become a mouse house (Michigan mice love LOVE to camp in mine).. Then I would take a long skinny screw driver and carefully push on the bottom of each carb slide and gently move them one at a time up into the carb body, release them and see if they move properly while their springs push em back closed.. Satisfied there I would fill my little spray bottle with gas, start er up on choke, move the choke off and spray fuel into the carbs while I fiddled with the throttle to see if I could get er to hit on all four (even one at a time) while I manually gave er a fuel/air mix... If this showed promise,, I would do the old, fill my carbs with carb cleaner thru the drain routine in an effort to get er to run good enough that I could take er for a spin and figure out whether she is worthy of real deal, genuine carb rebuild/cleaning... All in an effort to find out what I have or dont have before I went spending a lot of cash...

Yea,, that Loueeeeseeeanna deal was a dandy! One of the things I have noticed about recent sales on Ebay is that if you have any interest - it never hurts to run the bid up to your max right at the auction end because,, sometimes (and this is getting to be a very popular thing to have happen) the seller will take the last bid even though it didnt make reserve... Nuther something,, Spence did you happen to notice Coyote's post over in the clubs Ebay section? He's got an RSV posted over there @$2500.. Not a bad looking scoot for the $$ IMHO.... But, yea,, that RSTD down there was really really sharp...

:sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign Rock On::sign Rock On::sign Rock On: Speaking about testing scoots,,, when I was out at Sturgis playing with the new Venture I attempted to check the engine heat with my Harbor Freight infra red temp checker (had read in multiple reports that Yamaha had figured out how to keep the engine temps down even lower than the water cooled V-4's and wanted to do a scientific check to see if this was true) and the reps out there wouldnt allow it.. Have you got a infra red temp gun Neil? If you do have one,, maybe start your RSV and the new one and let em idle side by side and monitor engine temps and see how they compare... Does that Venture have what appears to be the same exhaust pipe configuration coming as the Eluder Neil?? Same protrusion under your left leg?? Wonder if wrapping the pipes (especially the rear pipe) in pipe wrap like we used to do with our Choppers would help?? Personally I thought the engine heat on the Venture was worse then on a Harley Ultra Limited we have spent a fair amount of time on but no where near as bad as the Indian 111's we demoed.. Right in the middle of the two was my opinion.. You got any time on either of the other big twin pushrod air cooled scoots Neil? If so,, care to share your thoughts? THIS IS SOOO MUCH FUN!! Thanks again for sharing with us!!! Puc

Well,, I already called and put a down payment at Harbor Freight in Oberlin Ohio on two of those Tent garages they sell.. The plan was to head to Maintenance Day down there this year, grab the Tent garages and homestead a spot on the Pond Monster lake in an effort to escape all this white wash over spray that Fool's been hitting us with. I was gonna stack those Tents up and then hire the Boss to install one of his powerized stair cases for our upstairs... I was also gonna hold one of those "Dent a Car" events like they used to have at demolition days where you get 1 wack for a dollar using Fool's truck that I know he uses to manuver the White Washer around with.. I was planning to use the proceeds from the "dent a truck" for an extra tent garage to store our stuff in next to our homestead and then, of course,, let my friends stay there when they come to visit us at our home on the lake...... All bets are off now though since reading about whats going on down there... Oh well,, would have been fun.. Guess I better call HF and see if I can get my deposit back..

I was gonna write something to , and create as much mischief here as I possibly could but a buddy called a bit ago to tell me that he heard on the radio that our local Honda shop has the new Wing on display so now Tip and I are gonna go see if we can get the KIA out of the garage (about a foot of fresh snow) and go see that great big beautiful new Honda Goldwing for our selves!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: my buddy wasnt listening to some fake news channel or just pulling my chain = he's a Harley riding varmint with a good heart but he LOVES to :stickpoke: with me!!! Back in a bit!! -
If I get feeling better and if Venturous Randy decides he really is done riding and ever puts that amazing 83 of his with the modified transmission up for sale here in the club and if I can afford what he needs to get for it and can find a U-Haul truck to go down there in Tennessee and get it so I can buy it from him, bring it home and combine Randy's bike with the one I got from Carbon One last year that I combined with Tweeks so Tip and I can get a chance to experience an 83 with that awesome modded tranny, that the math genius gear ratio master Randy almost had me convinced to come to his house and do to Tweeks, all before ride season gets here, it would be a riot to take that bike after getting things all switched around on it and see if it could find it's way back to its home down south even after it had a bunch of Yankee parts put on it and a trip to Ashville would be the perfect way to test it ... Maybe some of those stickers from rides past down yonder would help it find its way,, maybe not,, but maybe.. I LOVE the south!!

Hi Pic, Puc here, wassup!! Maybe a quick call around your area's local dealerships would be revealing... I know here in Michigan the new Yam's are here in stock = both the Venture and the Eluder.. My neighbor called this morning to let me know that even the new Wing is now here locally for viewing (we are still buried under many feet of Fool's White Wash so no demoing yet) and I have been reading that even those are being sold/ridden down there in Texas... Maybe you could just stop by a dealership and take view???

NOW THAT IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT = excellent read,, right from the hip of a non-biased riders perspective IHMO.. VERY VERY well done Neil!! Thank you SOOOO much for taking the time to do that and then to share your thoughts/pictures and adventure with us = YOU DA MAN BROTHER!!! Yep,, you definitely are onto something with your comments about the exhaust,,, still makes no sense to me.. I still think that that bike was designed specifically for the 1700cc Vmax motor = look at it,, it just SCREAMS - dont mess with me - Mom Yam really did turn the touring world upside down with me and all your other touring bikes are MILES behind now, and then someone in the Star group here in the States (I got to meet the Star Riders involved with the decision to go air cooled/push rod in this new one out at Americade) spoke up and said NO = we want air cooled so redesigned Strat motor was stuck in there. Not sure there is even a 1st cooling fan in there Bay, to my recollect the new Venture that we demoed out a Sturgis did not have a fan of any sort for cooling and therefore, I highly suspect that the Eluder is any different.. I wonder if VentureFar could answer for us whether or not he noticed this to be the case?? Neil,, if you get a second, would you mind pouring over that new Venture sitting in your garage for testing (YOU BANDIT LUCKY RASCAL with the bestest of the bestest new found bestest friend for a neighbor ) a little and see if I am wrong on this? I have noticed several comments "Eluding" (pun intended:stirthepot:) to the thought that those new air cooled machines have a cooling fan hidden in them somewhere.. I looked for one (but didnt have the high tempts to ride in or the chance to let one idle long enough that a cooling fan would of come on) I did ask the reps out at Sturgis about it and they said no but they also said that Yamaha had solved the "Heat issue" associated with air cooled touring bikes but never really did explain what they meant by that - maybe I missed something and there really is a "cooling fan" incorporated in there somewhere.. I also am not really convinced that anyone from Mom Yam is still monitoring our club house here.. There is a thread in the 3rd Gen section that Don started for us to develop our wish lists for the new Venture = as I recall, pretty much 100% of those responses (and there were some exhaustive lists in there) clearly stated V-4, water cooled, shaft drive and look what came out.. I know for a fact that Mom Yam sought input from riders here in the States on the design of the new one cause I met them and spoke to a couple of them at Americade BUT - those folks previous experience mostly had to do with the Star V-Twin owners. I also met a super nice guy on the way home from our western tour last year who was returning from the big Star Rally out in Minnesota and is a big wig with some Michigan "Star Riders" group who was all fired up about the new Venture that was out there. He was riding a Strat and was all excited Yamaha finally listening to the "Star Rider" group.. I have a theory that our group here at VentureRider are considered more "Yamaha" minded and less "Star" minded and, maybe therefore lost some connectivity with Mom Yam,, or Mom Star,, or whatever.. Maybe Freebird could shed some thoughts on this cause I am, as usual,, confused by it all...

I have never had either one so my opinion really doesnt matter much but,, I do REALLY like the looks of both of em.. Personally I think the RSTD is one of the purdiest cruiser bikes ever made with endless possibilities to customize to my likings = sort of think along the line of what @StarFan Jonas has done with his and you will get my drift.. I also have always LOVED the looks of the Milliniem RSV and if I ever did own one of those I would name it "The Falcon" for obvious reasons and I would ride it till the wheels fell off!! The only thing that I can think of that I would make a perspective buyer aware of would be just to remind them that the early RSTD's were not a balanced motor and were detuned significantly.. Just a simple read into the clubs "History" section which years this was going on in case a buyer was interested in performance... Here is something interesting.. I have also always loved Mom Yam's attempts at making specialty bikes and have owned a few of them = like the Heritage 650 Special = GORGEOUS!! This RSTD is right in that same category IMHO!! https://syracuse.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1997-yamaha-royal-star-1-of/6486515727.html

I was born with a deformed/twisted mind that, since day one, had only one thing it wanted to instruct me to do and that was think about motorcycles.. Even girls took second place.. When I was in Kindergarten my teacher would scold me for not playing with the other boys out in the play ground as all I wanted to do was draw pictures of Choppers as my mind wandered off in dreamland thinking of the day when that would become reality.. I was a mess.. By the time I was 9 I had destroyed more than one good bicycle attempting to put a lawnmower in it so my Dad made a deal with me that if I would save up some Blue Berry pickin money he would split the cost of little motorcycle with me.. It wasnt long and my first bike, a 1959 Sears Allstate Moped came into my life = $50 cut in half = $25 out of pocket!! Beside the fact that it had two wheels and an engine that was installed at a factory instead by using my hacksaw and hose clamps something else that REALLY sold me on that old moped was the fact that it actually had a hand clutch and the coolest 2 speed tranny selector up on the clutch perch that anyone had ever seen!! I still have the frame from it downstairs and have been collecting the parts to put it back together. Tip knew of my twisted mind when she married me because at that time, besides my MX bikes (was racing Honda CR250 Elsinores back then) I also had a new 78 HD Low Rider that she actually enjoyed riding on even more than ripping around in my 1970 Fast Back 351 Cleveland 4 speed Mach 1 = definitely my kinda girl!! By the time the Ventures were born we were already well on our way into raising a family and I was regularly pondering taking each one of my kids cross country with me one at a time to feed my insane need for biking that Tip knew I had before we were married.. As each one of my kids started to show some of the same inclinations I had concerning bikes,, I knew it was just a matter of time before we would be found out CTFW, sleeping in cemeterys and all that crazy stuff.. In 1987 I was at an Estate Sale and there,, sitting in the corner of a garage was a Blonde, 1984 Venture with 28k miles on it.. The owner had passed away leaving it to his daughter.. His son in law told me that the bike had problems and his father in law planned on fixing it but had passed away before he had a chance to.. IT WAS GORGEOUS! His son also told me his Dad had paid just over $5000 for it brand new and I was shocked when they offered it to me for $900 as is.. I put a new upgraded Stator in it and found out 2nd Gear was gone in it.. The kids fell in love with that great bike and starting calling it "Big Girl" which soon change to "B. G." which soon changed to just "Beeg".. The kids and chased Beeg out to over 250k miles while exploring everything from searching for Tidal Bores out in Nova Scotia to panning for gold using Hub Caps in the Black Hills... Beeg was the 1st of 6 1st Gens that we have owned and worn out and actually the newest one (all others have been 83's) and our only Royale.. Beeg's side covers have been on every 1st Gen we have had and now have over 1 million miles on them.. Those side covers are beat up, cracked out and tie wrapped together or held together by stickers and are not for sale = to us, they are priceless...

YEEEEEEHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! :dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And about that mostest amazingly awesome new bestest friend neighbor of yours = I HAVE GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THOSE :Laugh::Laugh::Laugh: Wishing the two of you NOTHING but the absolute GRANDEST of fun out there on that new scoot scoot VentureFar!! Same old, same old,,,,,,,, ride safe,,, take extra special care of that precious wife of yours and make us proud (again) with some AWESOME pics and stories!! CAN NOT WAIT TO HEAR ALL ABOUT IT!! P.S. - please fill the bags like you were packing to for a 2 month trip so we can get on honest report of its InterContiniental capabilities.. P.S.S. - please put it in top gear - touring mode, fully loaded and two up - camera on speedo, drop down to 35 mph and pin it wide open (stay in top gear) and hold it there till at least 70mph please... We took the attached video to compare with the one we rode but never had the chance to do the test - noting on our vid it took us about 11 seconds to go from 35 to 70 mph on our little 1200cc fully loaded Venture and would LOVE to see what that high torque motor that you will be playing with will produce.. Also please note your R's at 80 mph in top gear if you could - I just read that the new 4 valve Wing 6 popper is 2500 R's at 80 mph. Sorry for sooo many questions Neil,, you know I aint I right in the head = get wayy to pumped up over this stuff Thoughts, prayers, well wishes and TONS OF LOVE from Michigan as you two set out on yet another AMAZING journey!! Best always my brother - love ya and THANK YOU again for sharing all this with us!! Puc -
:scared::scared::scared::thumbsup: Heyyy you guys,,, did I tell you!! I got a brother who lives in California who just got PUBLISHED in a Motorcycle Magazine:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool: OUTSTANDING and major CONGRATS Neil!!! CAN NOT WAIT TO READ YOUR REPORT!!! TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!:clap2::clap2: Now,, about those amazing pictures = THANK YOU!! Gotta love that pic of your puppy in the mirror with the sad face look that says "heyyyyyy,,, I wanna go!!!" = please give her a hug for me and tell her I said that I know EXACTLY how she feels!! Also,,, take a close look at the attached pics and see if the place doesnt look familiar!! I think that fuel station you got gas at is the same one that Tip, Tweeks and I ran out of gas at in the middle of a moon lit ride thru the Park... I have a gut feeling its the same spot (not many fuel stations out in Death Valley) and if it is,, LOOK at the fuel prices in 2012!! What were the temps when you were there VentureFar? That pic of the temp that I snapped was 8 a.m. at the Stove Pipe place making your brother and his wife VERY glad they were riding a water cooled 1st Gen!! Also,, is that Back Off Whip another VentureFar special? Sure looks like it!! Didnt think I would notice it did ya!! That 'Luder may be a hot one but WOWZY is that purdy!! Lucky sucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well worth the wait,, GUARANTEED!!!!:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:

INDEED Dave - now that you mention it I can sure see the pedigree resemblence.. How are you liking your CTX? How about a comparison between it and your experience with the RSV?? Performance about the same? Handling? Two up comforts? Can you remove the rear tire by laying the bike on its side like on the 1800 Wings? What kind of fuel economy?
-
INDEED!! Weed Control = walk along the edge of Don's property with the tupperware lid on the Rum Ball container cracked open and the weeds just fall over while ya walk by.. Skeeter control = Fool opens the lid on the container placed in the back of his truck just as he enters Don's driveway.. All skeeters within 2 miles instantly fall over dead and all skeeters within the 2 to 5 mile radius fly into walls or run into trees and end up with bent beeks.. Octane Boost = never open the cap on your fuel tank within 5 hours of the Rum Balls being passed around.. Doing so will instantly raise the normal 10% alchohol content of your fuel to 40%. Instant Hollywood Stars = after an evening of falling Rum Balls, every tent or camping trailer will now contain people who are convinced that they can sing really really well..

OUCH!!!! Ouch ouch ouchy!! Snype, PLEASE tell your son that old Pucster said OUCH and sorry to hear that... Also,, ya gotta know that sometimes I just to much and I paint myself into a corner,, been that way my whole life and have paid the price for it (should of known me in High School ).. I was not considering those with injuries or other medical handicaps.. I have bumped into lots of riders thru the years that were/are thrilled to be riding automatics because due to their injuries - without automatics they would not have been able to ride = for them,, indeed = automatics were/are a God send.. Couple things, is it only one arm in your sons case that is affected?? If so, have you thought about just moving the controls around on the bars? Sort of custom modding a stock bike to work for him? Another alternative is going to a foot clutch/hand shift.. Current Automatic bikes,,,, there are LOTS of left over 700 Honda's out there brand new cause they really did not sell well once they got beyond their initial offering. Honda also offered both the 750 and 450 auto's years before that.. I know about the Ridley but really,, I would stay away from them as a rider - Honda would be wayyyy easier to get parts for IMHO.. How about scooters? I have had numerous scooters around here and still have a Honda Helix and they are a RIOT!! You can get 150 or 300cc Chinese scooters CHEAP.. Also,, Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki make BIG motored scooters that are fully automatic and wayyy overlooked because of what I was initially talking about but TRULY,, if auto was the only way I could ride - I personally would have NO problem loading one up with gear and heading to Sturgis.. I have seen with my own eyes people who are missing limbs from War or having life thrown at them like you mention your son had who have done exactly what I am talking about (showing up at Sturgis on a Burgman scooter) and get the absolute SALUTE from the gang cause they didnt let life stop em...

Sorry about that brother!! Fixed it!!
