Awe.. Thump,, first and foremost = WELCOME BACK,, sorry to hear about the health issues you folks been dealing with brother but glad to hear your injuries are coming around.. Also sorry to hear about you selling the Venture but I do get it and wish you all the best therein! I think you should post some pics up here by the clubs cement pond so all us lop eared expert bike pricing varmints can , ,, ,, , and see if we can come up with a +:2cents:x:witch_brew: for you. Maybe a good place to start would be to gather some factual carb rebuild numbers.. I have no idea but I think I remember bongobobny once stating he thought $800 would cover parts for a complete go thru on a 2nd Gen... Still a good idea on your end to stick some fresh gas in her, charge up her battery, check her oil for fuel smell (incase she had a stuck float valve), pull the air cleaners and look for mice nests, cycle the fuel pump till it primes solid, pull the choke, keep the throttle closed and give er a try... One never really knows about that old Yamaha Venture sitting in the shed

What in the wild wild world of soggy left over Hot Dog buns is going on here!! Enjoying your ownership ride reports and updates Rich = thank you!! Also enjoying any and all 's (I LOVE 's) = thank you for taking the time to share those too!!! Got a question for you. Noticing here that you owned and rode a Strat for ten years. I have spent some time on an 06 Strat owned by my nephew. After attending the unveiling of the Venture at Americade and calming down some (I was one who was really for a 1700cc VMax V-4 Venture), my wife and I packed up our 83 and headed for Sturgis to demo them. Having ridden the Strat considerably and many V-Twin Harleys/Indians - I thought the new 113 Venture felt considerably detuned in comparison to its counterpart Strat motor.. To me it felt like it was missing 10 to 20 horse by my "seat of the pants" dyno and its memory of my nephews 06 Strat. Matter of fact,, I commented to my wife and even the demo guys that it felt "88 inch Harley Twin Cam"ish to me in its performance (those were 70ish horse - maybe).. Later I noticed a cutaway motor (have posted vid of it) at the Star tech tent and, seeing that Yamaha added an extra balance shaft and an extra alternator to the motor it occurred to me that the extra weight on the crank of the new 113 may have been part of the lack of performance I had perceived. Having not had the chance to ride an Eluder and as a comparison, I would be curious of what your "seat of the pants" dyno tells you when comparing your old Strat performance experience with the new one? I also had quite a conversation out in NY and also at Sturgis with the Yamaha/Star guys and some of that fun :Im not listening toing centered around potential heat problems that riders may experience by Yamaha going with air cooling.. Having listened carefully to the techs in both places explain to me that "Yamaha had 100% solved that issue" I/we were anxious to find out just how true the claim was. Before we demoed the Venture I told my wife that I thought comparing a stripped air cooled bike to a fully faired with lowers bike would not be fair. I questioned the techs at Sturgis about the possibilities of removing the lowers and it was confirmed the lowers were not removable so I formed my opinion (and have written about it for months now) around a comparison between Harley's non-water cooled 103's and the 111inch that Polaris puts in their Indian model and the Venture all with lowers.. I thought the Yamaha fell right in between the Polaris (hottest IMHO) and the Harley (hot but no where near as hot as the Polaris). I also felt the new Venture was considerably warmer than the Strat but considered the Strats open air profile and the fact that its exhaust is tucked in differently (both sides exit on the right) than the Venture to be part of the cause for this.. Does this line up with your thoughts on a heat comparison? Glad you found us and really look forward to maybe meeting you somewhere on the road this season!! One thing for sure,, that GORGEOUS scoot of yours will not be hard to spot when out there CTFW Puc

Jeff, are you on a city sewer system? If you are, while I have NO experience with such - I did work with a guy one time who was working on his home sewer that was hooked up to one and somehow he ignited some methane gas associated with the sewer and blew the system up (no idea if this is true but I was told he popped sewer pipe covers down the road when she blew ). I also know that I had to hire a contractor in to do some work on a pump station at one of our locations back when I was Managing a warehouse and I noticed those guys working on that system wore air supply whenever entering "the hole".. Reading all this stuff about the smells associated with your project and thinking there is probably no "water trap" providing an air gap/gas blocking spot in the system that far downstream = wondered if you had given any thought/taken any precautions to keep from getting gassed or getting hurt down there from such??

OUTSTANDING BKN!!!!! Looks GREAT and a double :thumbsup: on a BYOB well done!!!! While far from any form of expert with the Voyager Trike kits, I did get to ride one similar to yours for a couple miles once cause a really good friend of mine ( mirider ) who used to be a member here (may still be) had one before he bought his Harley TriGlide named Candy.. Personally, I dont remember Miriders Voyager steering that difficult. Matter of fact, what I do remember (remembering it cause I really liked this about the Voyager) was that it maintained its bike lean when you turned as opposed to a normal trike with 2 wheels on the back = completely different steer techniquek. I am thinking that this is because with the voyager, you are still riding on the bikes original 2 wheels and using the additional outer wheels more to maintain balance then anything else.. Dave (my buddy Mirider) told me a little about what it took to get those outriggers set just right,, I believe it was no small task and getting them spot on helped in the bikes handling a lot. I also know from Tip/Tweaks and I chasing Dave and Sue around corners on that Voyager Triked Gen 2 of theirs that when cornering rear wheel of the kit that was on the outside of the corner arc would be off the ground due to the bike leaning in like a normal bike in a corner does.. I write all that cause I cant help but wonder if you may have those outriggers adjusted to tightly so the machine is taking on characteristics similar to a traditional trike that only has three wheels... It seems like if this were the case, indeed it would/could make it steer harder... This could all be a bunch of hoooey too:missingtooth: Just thought I would toss it out there cause I love bikes with my buddies!!! It seems like other lop eared VR varmints have some real life experience with the Voyager Kit - hopefully someone who really KNOWS about all this will jump in and either scold me for my nonsense or throw me a hot dog cause I am close to correct = thinking maybe Condor ? So here's what happened Rich.. After waiting and waiting and waiting for Yamaha to update yesteryears little V-4 powered Venture with the new 1700cc injected V-4 V-Max motor,, some of us were THRILLED beyond words when we heard the announcement.. Yamaha's words were: The new Venture was coming and it was going to turn the touring world upside down!! They didnt say = the Stratoliner Tourer was coming and it was gonna turn the touring world upside down - they said = Venture and "Venture" to some of us varmints means V-4... Along with that announcement came the story that they (Yamaha) had left the design of the bike up to the USA "Star" riders - which, at the time meant very little to a few of us (me included) because the Gen-2 Venture was in fact a "Star" motorcycle and it was a V-4.. Personally,, I been riding these Ventures for a long long long time and I get VERY excited about em cause,,, well,, cause I love em and I love the V-4 part of em.. I also LOVE the V-Twins too though so dont miss understand any of this,, its just that for my touring needs,,, I have come to appreciate the V-4 performance and character.. I have never owned a 113 but have nephew (who thinks I am his Dad) who rides a Strat he bought from his brother who bought in brand new in 06 though and I have accumulated many miles on it = definitely a respectable,durable, AWESOME engine but one that, IMHO,, would fit me better in a Raider than the Strat and certainly not my type for "touring" but that is strickly my opinion.. Being a bone head full of for what I thought could possibly be in the touring bike history makings (thinking = +180 hp, water cooled, shaft drive, 6 speed, injected,fixed fairing, detachable bags, care less about radio or GPS (flaw in my character), mid ship controls, ergonomically designed for 2, R1 brakes or better and on and on = a REAL history maker touring bike that would spell nothing but BYE BYE for any competition on the road = the wife and I headed to the unveiling out in New York last year on our 83 Venture just to be there to watch history be made.. Long story short,,, after they introduced the Star Riders who actually designed the new Venture they pushed the buttons on the starters of the hidden bikes hiding off to the sides of the stage and,,,, POOF - thats when I knew I had misunderstood. I said "OHH POOP" a little to loud (people actually stared at me) - looked at Tip and said "Strat".. Sure enough.. My "OH POOP" did have a small side effect in that it caused me to be noticed by the wrong people and I ended up being used as target practice during the half time show as seen in the vid below.. After the unveiling, I did get to chat with some of the "Star" rider/designers who made it completely clear that from their perspective - the bike setting before them was EXACTLY what they were hoping for and what they asked for.. To them (and many many others) the "Venture" name held no sanctity for being a V-4 but more toward denoting "Touring".. Having now spent time riding the new Venture both 2 up and solo and getting to know it better,, I can certainly see why folks LOVE it - it is a GORGEOUS scoot.. Strangely enough,, I think if Mom Yam would have just named it a "Stratotourer" or something other than a "Venture" I think a lot of the confusion on behalf of bone heads like myself could have been avoided BUT,, on the same token,, what difference would that have really made?? ,, SPEAKING ABOUT YOUR NEW SCOOT,,, WANNA SEE INSIDE ITS MOTOR = SEE 2ND AND 3RD VIDS BELOW = WAYYYYY PRETTY:thumbsup:!

While I am absolutely no expert on any of this stuff,, I think what your hearing about the rev limiter deal actually is linked somehow to a few people who were a little let down cause they were really hoping for a hard hitting, high revving, competition stomping out of sight torque and horse power 1700cc V-Max motored new shaft drive Venture and were just caught off guard by Mom Yam's move to an air cooled stump puller in the Venture line.. Here is a good example of the type of person I am talking about who explains what I am saying in a little more detail.. Noticing the 1st gear on the old old old 1200cc Venture = 70mph, 2nd = 80mph and 3rd = 95 mph compared with the numbers showing on the new one as it bounces off the rev limiter ...

I like to use that 80 pound question when thinking about passenger weight because if your intending to carry a passenger you can get a pretty good feeling for top heaviness on a bike by tossing a bag of 80 pound redi mix upright on the saddle behind you if your passenger is +80 pounds. I have ridden a number of bikes that sit higher between the ride height of the driver and the passenger and have experimented with the redi-mix with them (when my wife, Tippy, was preoccupied) and have noticed that the greater the difference in ride height on the saddle - the more top heavy the bike "feels" - especially at slow speeds below the point of being able to countersteer/when you lose gyro scope effect of the spinning wheels.. Using this theory, a person can go to """ http://cycle-ergo.com/ """ and search thru the scoots comparing those seat height differences and get a fairly accurate idea of how top heavy a bike may be.. Fun to consider and fool around with if nothing else.. Grubs I hear ya about your wanting to stay with the batwing fairinged style of bikes, if that were not the case I would strongly suggest you do some digging and see if you could find an early Kaw Voyager 2.. Had a number of them thru the years = those things were amazing bikes IMHO.. My neighbor who is 5' 6" sat on one of mine just after he had purchased a new Ultra Limited and about balled his eyes it out cause the Kawi fit him so good and he had just spent the big bucks trying to get his new one to fit even as close to as good... I cant help but wonder if your experience with not being able to lift the bike of the stand may have resulted from having the kickstand in a low spot and down before your passenger disembarked.. If so, it seems possible that when the boingers unloaded the bike may have ended up at an abnormal lean angle and it dont take much of an extra lean for any of these big ole heavy touring scoots to over power us when that happens..

Talking more about bikes, I just found this bike buying/selling site ( https://www.rumbleon.com ) and have been checking em out.. Pretty interesting twist in that they offer free pick up on a bike you sell to them if you accept their offer (which I am sure is "trade-in" or below based) and then they offer free delivery if you buy a bike from them.. Going over their sell point pricing = not bad at all IMHO (also why I imagine their purchase offers have to be 60 to 70 cents on the dollar).. May sound strange but, due to the scammers on CL, Ebay and the like plus the hassles commonly associated with dealing with tire kickers plus the condition of the bike market - I honestly think this new kid on the block has a real good shot at staying in the black.. If nothing else, they appear to offer a fairly straight forward, reality based view of what particular bikes may be worth on the open market at any given time IMHO. Definitely a plus for the perspective buyer and/or seller alike.. Thoughts? Experiences? Anyone dealt with them?

Think English Sports car Jack = MGBish in foot room,, not bad at all once ya get in really - its the getting in that could be challenging ! As far as the price goes, a new plain jane Sling is 20, middle of the road = 25 and top of the line is 30 according to a flyer I just got.. None of those are boosted and the Van comes stock with turbo and it is 30k = extremely well hand built in Utah - got to chat with the guy who owns the company and gotta tell ya - an AMAZING story and AMAZING people IMHO.. The down side is,, its highly doubtful that a used Van will pop up for as easy $$ as a Polaris Sling Shot.. Just no where near as many made... My thinking it was cheap comes from knowing what a company like "Morgan" gets for something along that line.. I seriously was expecting to see 50 to 60k on that price tag!! Not defending the prices in ANY way brother cause, personally,, I dont see any motorcycle shy of maybe another 1942 Olivia the War bike or an old 4 cylinder genuine original Indian being worth that kind of cash - I REALLY dont but hey,,, that's just my opinion!!

O.K.,, seems how Cha pried the lid open here and there is NO WAY - NO HOW I can end up back on probation with Dan and Jeff (dont wanna do that right now = Jeff smells funny) cause I am just writing a simple answer to a simple question asked within the confines of our clubhouse,,,, here goes: Personally,, I have found the release of the new Wing to be extremely invigorating after what happened concerning the recent release of the new Venture.. Dollar for dollar and technology to technology - I view what Mom Yam did by going belt driven, air cooled, push rod motored V-Twin as a step backward in touring motorcycle progress when compared to what Honda did with this new Wing.. I was so inspired and so intrigued with this new Honda when I first saw it that I immediately went and joined a couple Wing forums just to be part of the excitement and I gotta tell ya = EXCITING this journey has been!!! Some personal highlights and uptakes from my perspective: 1. Having made somewhat of a career of building old school customs and dealing with both springer and girder front ends (the new Wing front end is basically a girder front end that is operated by a set of tie rod ends = pretty cool really) - I have thouroughly enjoyed reading and following along the stories and videos of folks getting a first hand "feel" of such motorcycle geometry.. To hear modern day bikers talk of this "new" technology and how smooth it is brings a huge smile to my face each time I read another article/thread post or watch another video about it!! One of my very favorite stories that I will never forget is one that came from a person who, because of his background with the Goldwings, got invited to go to Austin to test the new Wings and his response after "flying" the Wing (he really did "fly" it = there is actually a video out there showing him and his wife AIR BORN during that test time!!!!!) was simply = I have a completely modified suspension Gen 2 Wing (the prior 1800 to this new one) that rides/handles as perfect as you can get with a Gen 2 and this new one is superior to that fully "Traxxionized" version in everyway = it is perfect and he wrote his findings in an online bike magazine! After that same person purchased one of the new ones though he discovered that his earlier perception was far from accurate. Last that I have read, this same person is now in the process of reshocking both front and rear of his new Wing because, according to him the OEM shocks are far from accurate.. So,, how could such a talented and season rider/Wing owner make such a mistake?? Personally, IMHO, this is a perfect example of someone getting exposure to a "ride" that is probably totally foreign to him (unless he grew up on Chops with a springer or girder front end on it).. Fact is,,, bar none,, there never has been, and never will be a motorcycle as comfortable to cover zillions of miles on and live in the seat of as a Soft Tail Chop with either a good springer or girder front end suckin up all the vibes in the process... 2. When I read "using CRF technology" associated with the new Goldwing back at the release I KNEW I was in for a very very special treat and that is another part of why I immediately headed to the Wing forums to be part of all the excitement I knew was coming! Many years ago during my dirtbike racing career I jumped from Yamaha to Honda when Honda introduced the CR250M in 73 = I worked in a Honda shop at the time and had a heads up of what was coming so I ordered a new one up - site unseen.. It was absolutely, postitively a PHENOMENAL machine. Chrome moly frame, flywheelless ignition (INSTANT REVS), porting like you cant even imagine (looking down the barrel = it had "spiderwebs" for lands for the rings to ride on = BEAUTIFUL piece of artwork!!), magnesium all over for weight reduction, aluminum tanked, SUPER light weight and talk about a wheely machine = anyone familiar with Motocross and riding an MX bike on the back wheel thru the "whoops" could easily take one of these factory race bikes and ride it thru 5 gears on the back wheel (hey Cha,, I included a video just for you at the end of this that features a bunch of my old buddies who I bumped into at our local "bike time" a while back = if you watch that and listen carefully to it - when Beechy mentions thinking I was born on a "Unicycle" cause I used to go by his house on the back wheel - he is talking about that amazing Elsinore doing her thing!! = there is also another friend of mine who bought one and it scared him so bad he only rode it 2x and parked it - he is the one who I bought Elsie #2 from also mentioned in the vid!!).. When I went back to work at the Honda shop toting 2 1st Place Trophies (250 and Open Class) after my first weekend of racing on "Elsie" the owner of the shop walked in the back room and said "WOW,, looks like you and your new Elsinore are getting along just fine" - to which I replied = "THERE IS MAGIC BETWEEN THOSE BARS!!" and I meant it. Thru many years of racing, it wasn't until 2002 when Honda introduced the CRF450f that I once again actually "felt" that same "feeling" in a motorcycle. What Honda did with modern 4 stroke technology was just amazing.. Of course,, it was the total package that produced the magic but, in my mind when I read "CR" or now "CRF" - I pay attention and I was THRILLED to read this in association with the new Wing!! Due to some health issues, having spent many hours with nothing much to do but read and watch videos about one of my favorite subjects (guess what that is) - I can honestly say that I have enjoyed all the RnD vids that show exactly what those guys at Honda went thru in their attempt to put that same magic between the bars of this new Wing.. 3. Regardless of how near sighted each one of us can be,, the fact of the matter is,, no manufacturer no where no how is able to produce the perfect bike for all persons.. Before Yamaha introduced the Mono Shock, many of us track competitors cantilevered (tig welded new mounts for the rear shocks = leaning them forward, giving the rear suspension substantially more travel) our swing arms and went aftermarket on the rear shocks (believe it or not, I still have the original set of CRF250M shocks off my 1st Elsie with no more than 5 hours on them - I went to "Konies" back in the day) and shimmed up or forks to meet our specific needs.. IMHO, it just stands to reason that bike producers will try to produce something "middle of the perverbial road" to please as many people as possible with OEM stuff = makes sense in my pea brain.. Understanding this is how I think,, it will probably come as no surprise to hear me say that I for one ABSOLUTELY enjoy aftermarket supplier videos like the one you posted.. Fact is,, I LOVE seeing new product in development = I'm an American = capitalism is a marvelous thing IMHO!! Experience has taught me that neither truth nor intelligence necessarily go hand in hand with the art of diplomacy.. One of the bike shops that I grew up in as a kid was owned by one of the most sarcastic individuals a person could ever meet.. If this person detected even a hint of one of us young neighborhood gearheads "sandbaggin" him (pretending when we didnt know something when he KNEW that we did know" he would blantantly call us out on it.. He played no games, just flat out honest truth (and he was a GENIUS when it came to Yamaha's = matter of fact, Yamaha engineers from Japan actually came to his little shop on more than one occasion to discuss product development) and he called a spade a spade.. I will NEVER forget when Yamaha introduced the Virago 750 with its clunky starter system,,, he and I were standing in the shop talking about that bike and he flat out called it a "PIECE OF JUNK" right in front of some customers = he was just that way! He also single handedly developed a regrind for those starter bendix gears that solved 90% of the clunking and grinding in those 750's but you would have been surprised with the number of Virago riders who were just as happy as could be about the noises their bikes made and refused to let us "fix" their new bikes... My friend (the owner of the shop) never hesitated in telling them they were "senile" for doing so which is a PERFECT example of why I say that neither truth nor intelligence necessarily goes hand in hand with the art of diplomacy.. I like using Sea Foam for fuel stabilizer,, think I paid close to 8 bucks for a can of it last fall at Menards to treat the bikes up for storage.. Your right DanL',, that is a good price!!!!!!!
