  1. I posted this deep in another thread but thought it might not be a bad idea to stick it here too just in case someone does a club house search looking for RLU answers and cant find it..
  2. OUTSTANDING MY BROTHER OF THE ROAD!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup::dancefool: Tip and I LOVE Gettysburg and, hopefully,,, someday in the future - plan to return to spend a BUNCH of time exploring the antique shops/Civil War museums in the area - like most other places, weeks instead of days are needed to really get to the bottom of things when dealing with something so deeply touching!! You find that too?? Speaking of time,,, if you ever get back out in the eastern states and are thinking of doing an east to west tour,,, give some thought to riding "50" from Ocean City to Sacramento!! As the sticker says - it's known as "The Loneliest Hiway In America" but it is actually an AWESOME ride on a bike!! Lots of great VR club members not to far off that trail either that I am SURE would love to make you and Charlottes aquaintance IRL too - THAT is always icing on the cake IMHO:thumbsup2:!!
  3. :stickinouttounge:
  4. Casey,, if you chose to try and read that first part of the story and are able to make sense out of it and would like me to continue just let me know.. Looking at the pics,,, I cant imagine anyone other than myself being able to follow it
  5. TOTALLY 100% right there anticipating that sniffin the aromatic odor of 2 stroke oil filled exhaust mixing with the fine smells of the woods brother = if nothing more than in memory in my case - I REALLY REALLY DO "KNOW":big-grin-emoticon:!! LOVE your K-TOOM and share in your excitement of whats coming your way Casey!! Indeed you folks do have an AMAZING area for single trackin in those Hills brother = GORGEOUS!! You ever play the Hills from Spearfish Canyon over to the Wyoming state line and then over to Sundance??? Have never ridden on a dirtbike but bored my way thru the quad/two tracks a number of times.. Camped it numerous times (to regain some sanity after a couple days of playing at the Rally) too = WOWZY wildliMfe in that area = Elk!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway,, THANK YOU for sharing about this other side of riding Case!! In an effort to assist/encourage you while your out of town and give you something to read in your spare time, I am going to try and share an article I wrote and submitted to Trail Rider that got published.. This all took place years ago before I broke my back in a car/deer accident and spent over a year in a body cast - the end of over 35 years of motocross, enduro's, harescramblin and just good old single trackin.. Back then my dirt riding buddies called me "Woodsy". Read on if you would like:
  6. Hot off the press and just for you Geo (I used to have a buddy named "George" who had the name tag on his shirt shortened up by an errant disc grinder and what was left was "Geo" = his nickname from that day forward was GEEEEE - OHHHH so thats what I call you in the vid - hope thats ok?)!!! Hope this helps in some small way!! Puc
  7. I hear ya brother!!! When I bought Maggie the Bucket List Bike (my R1 shown in the vids below) from her previous owner she came to me with brand new - Carbon Fiber tires on her.. A buddy and I were out playing around on our bikes recently - he on his new 103 inch High Output motored new HD Ultra Low and me on my little 61inch motored R1 when a guy in a new Corvette went screaming by us. Maggie got caught in the Vettes tail wind and when her and I pulled up to his car window at 160 mph the driver of Vette gave us a and a .. Later my buddy and I were standing in my driveway about the Vette incident when I looked down and noticed the pencil width exposure of carcass thread showing thru in the middle of Mags rear tire ,,, of course I was :scared::scared: when, like you I discovered the value of those Carbon Fibers.. I have never ever done "burn outs" with Maggie but have always been amazed that her puny little motor can break the rear tire loose easily in 4th gear when ya wick on it and even in 5th at 160 if you roll the spurs into her sides to hard you can feel the rear tire breaking loose.. I have a habit of being heavy with the spurs so I am sure this is the reason for the fairly early tire wear.. Having said all that,, I located a set of non Carbon Fiber tires that are "ZR"s (rated for high speed of sport bikes) that are well under $150 for the set and made by a company who I have lots of experience with on my Ventures (Full Bore tires - ever tried em Yam?).. Got em coming along with a pair of Paddock lifts just for Maggie.. Be interested in seeing pics of your newly shoed scoot and will provide pics/vids of the tire swap process on Maggie if your interested... Back at cha Puc
  8. No but the Reserved Lighting Unit (RLU) can be accessed by pulling the headlight.. Would you like a short video of such?
  9. I have enough problems controlling, maintaining and paying the taxes on the centimeters of Earth that I own so I really prefer to not be to concerned with my centimeters out there on Mercury... :rasberry::rasberry::rasberry::rasberry: P.S. = 52 degrees farah facette height here on this side of the pond!!!!!! May just get Tweeks out and hook up the gauges to her and check my centimeters of Mercury brother = White Washer got a thrust washer stuck in its throat?:banana:
  10. Right, wrong or indifferent brother:
  11. IMHO, your boxing yourself in somewhat for pulling a trailer at those weight numbers.. Have considered maybe looking at a touring scoot with a reverse gear? I know the earlier wings had reverse and those can now be had fairly reasonable.. Of course,,, you could spend the big bucks and get into one of the new, light weight, full auto (I LOVE saying that = full auto,, full auto,, FULL AUTO ) DCT trannied, reverse equipped new Wings but if you did that you would have to share it with all your good friends here in the club,,,,,, ol buddy ol pal of mine
  12. I have used all types of instruments for syncing carbs on the 1st Gens (and lots of other scoots too) and actually prefer the 4 gauge setup as long as they are good ones with restrictors for adjusting the bounce on the needles. The carb tune slide tool works good too IMHO but the slides tend to get sticky with use and I dont care to fight that issue so I stick with gauges but that is my preferance. @Condor , as far as balancing side to side,, please take a moment and look at my video below starting at 12:00 where I show how to do left to right balance - is this the area of adjustment that you believe is not adjustable with the gauges?? If this is not and I am missing something, please advise I can correct my syncing advice brother!!!
  13. Like this one that @BlueSky just posted a link to ya dad burned lop eared White Washin cheeseheaded varmint: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?135635-2005-rstd-2200&p=1033122#post1033122
  14. GOOD FIND SKY!!! Thanks for sharing the link!!
  15. You betcha, anytime!! and all the best with the fix!!!
  16. Never ever was much of a blinker man myself Cha and generally still use hand signals instead of blinks but, if he were my friend I would probably tap in a test light in front of the flasher unit and check it for voltage and do the same behind the flasher.. Sounds suspiciously like a bad flasher.. On another note,,, maybe double check voltage across battery at high idle and up for over charge and also A.C. presence as a failing regulator could fry a flasher resulting in that bright flash you saw.. b
  17. Morning Case,,, see your fingers is working faster than mine this morning!!! Pouring rain here and about 40 degrees (HEAT WAVE!!).. Hows weather in the Hills? Sorry for the hijack Ow..
  18. Hi Ow,, good morning back to you and ,,, glad you found us.. First thing I would do on the bike is put your battery on a battery charger (actual charger, not a tender). You dont have to remove it from the bike to do so. Thinking the previous owner may possibly have misdiagnosed the situation and you simply ran the bikes electrical system off the freshly charged new battery until it went dead ], you are gonna want to see if you might be dealing with a stator or a regulator issue.. After letting the battery charge for a couple hours or so so you know it has a good charge, double check the tightness on your battery leads. Try to start the bike.. If it starts, while its idling, take a volt/ohm meter and check the voltage across the battery posts and note voltage. Now rev the bike up a little while checking across battery with meter and see what reading you get.. Idle should see 12vdc, 2 grand or so above idle should read 14.5 vdc . No change means something is up with the charging system.. Lots of old gearheads still use the headlight method for checking the system too, simply shine headlight on garage wall and watch for beam change slightly as you bump the R's. Works great but meter is more accurate.. Hope you can follow my thoughts and it helps.. Puc
  19. Insurance wise, we bikers in Michigan got sold down the stream a number of years ago when the "No-Fault" insurance scam came into effect.. Part of that scam included this thing called the "Catastrophic Fund" that all vehicle owners are required to pay into.. The basis is that whenever someone is injured in vehicle accident and their medical costs go over a certain amount, instead of funding that amount - insurance companies turn it over to the fund managers of the Catastrophic Fund for handling and they (the company's) are no longer responsible = definitely rubbing shoulders with socialism. Digging a little deeper into the whole scam revealed (and it still is this way), a person insuring a bike also has to pay into the "fund" at the same rate as car owners, to the tune of 170 a year.. If you own a car and a bike = 340 a year just for the fund.. The horror story of all this comes up when an unsuspecting bike rider has a run in with another biker, a deer, a bicyclist or any other means of accident other than an actual 4 wheeled insured vehicle.. If no 4 wheeled vehicle is involved in a bike accident that results in personal injury = even though we are forced to pay the fund fee - we do not have access to the fund....
  20. And the components of that particular wild cat load must have found their way off Uncle Sams hit list for high prices this last year because I know Fool is a price shopper like I am and that he dont overspend on nuttin.. Considering that he has been bench testing that load and perfecting it for the last 7 months = DEFINITELY high production, low cost yield of a load!!
  21. You are more than welcome Sha - happy to be of assistance!! You might want to start a new thread about tires and such but I will go ahead before the guru's take over and suggest you consider the Shinko Tour Master 230 line. I just ordered and received my beginning set for the season and I think I have $150 in the set (hold on, I will check) = my 120/90-18 Shinko Tour Master from Chaparrel was 66 dollars shipped and the 140/90-16 Shinko Tour Master from Chap was 78 bucks shipped.. I have worn off numerous tires thru the years and found these to be about the best bang (poor choice of words) for the buck.. GOOD in the twisties, rain and even decent wear in the high temps of the desert region and pretty dog gone good off road charachtoristics for a loaded up tour bike.. The guy that really turned me on to them - a lop eared club member varmint known as "VAz" ( videoarizona ) is now promoting the 777's I do believe = lets see if we can get his attention here and see if he could expound on the how's and why's).. By the way Sha,, around here in the club house - if you wanna gets someones attention you just put a "@" sign in front of their club name and,,, sort of like ringing the door bell on the Beverly Hillbillies = they magically appear - works great!! Forks wise - these 1st gen Ventures came with what I call = Ink Pen Springs for fork springs from the factory.. 1st thing is get a set of Progressives ordered if yours are stock Ink Pen boingers.. If you do the forks, do the bushings along with the seals.. Ditch that nasty fish oil that Mom Yam (and all other metric dirt bikes and streets) used for fork oil,, clean that stinky stuff out of there,, use Bel Ray 12.5 wt,,,, use 1" preload bushings on the Progressive springs - make sure you have the progressively wound section of the springs at the bottom... Add NO air and WOWZY are you in for a treat = especially if you love attacking twisties and riding some off road = good set up!!
  22. Oh yea,,, I usually sync my carbs every time I change my oil at home basically because I am an obsessive compulsive gearhead who has the tools to do the job and Tweeksis LOVES to be tweeked on... Not only that but because most of the modern day touring bikers around here have graduated to bikes with engines almost twice the size of Tweeksis's and keeping her in good tune makes it all the more easier for her to put a smoking on em without speed shifting er... Also, the more carbs/cylinders involved combined with wear that linkages/carb parts get on them from usage and/or the more imperfections occur on things like diaphrams from being dried out from using Ethanol Fuel's = the more sensitive to adjustment needs the system becomes.. Keep in mind to that not everyone has the same "tune" level of need = one of my 1st Gens came from a person who was riding it when second gear started slipping.. Beautiful scoot with only 26k miles on it.. When I test rode I could instantly tell it was not running on 4 just by the way it revved (slow).. I asked him how long the carbs had been out of wack - he said it had been running like that for the 3 years he had owned the bike.. I rode it home +100 miles away - maintaining highway speeds with no problem whatso ever - bike ran great but low on normal v-4 torque and high power.. Got home, pulled the slides and BINGO - one diaphram completely seperated from the slide!! This would have been found INSTANTLY with a carb sync but the previous owner was as happy as a peach riding around on a 900cc - 3 cylinder Yamaha Venture - which,, by the way,,, I am totally good with - its just that I prefer to have my motor to be able to perform its work (torque) as fast as possible (hp) so together we :checkeredflag:even against much larger engined putzy scoots
  23. Snype gets the Hot Dog on this one Ty = go to 10:55 to see the screw that sync's #2 to #1 ,, and then go to 12:15 on the timeline to see the screw to set #3 to #4 and also the one to set left side to right side - all found in the video below
  24. NEVER Sir Bob!!!! NEVER EVER EVER BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!! :dancefool: (start at 1:50 DragonSlayer )
  25. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW ,,, road rage to the limit!!! IMHO,, biker = guilty of Malicious Destruction of property if he touched the car causing damage to it.. If no contact was made = no crime (all sticks and stones stuff). The driver of the car on the other hand,, unless he/she can prove self defense by clearly showing the biker was brandishing a firearm so his/her life was actually endangered = attempted 2nd/3rd degree murder and using a vehicle as a deadly weapon. I too read the comment section on the link = IMHO, we do indeed live in some strange times where otherwise "normal" sane people consistently confuse inanimate objects that have absolutely NO control over their actions with animate human objects who are solely responsible for the results of the use/abuse of those inanimate objects in their possession. What REALLY makes this a scary thought is that there are actually people sitting in seats of judgement who also suffer from this confusion and who, at this time in the history of world - believe that cars/guns/motorcycles/lawnmowers/knives or even peanut butter sandwiches have a brain of their own and are out to get us!! Bottom line: IMHO, if you are riding a motorcycle on public roadways during these days - ALWAYS ride like you are invisible and that no one - other than yourself - cares whether you live or die, cause they dont.. When the road rage starts (and it will) - if you have enough motor to simply outrun the culprit(s) = do so (my favorite ).. One of the HUGELY dynamic things about riding a bike that I have ALWAYS enjoyed is the multiple options that are always present when confronted with road rage and the need to escape thereof.. Even if you dont have the motor to just wick it up a little and say bye bye,, crossing medians or riding up an entrance ramp on the shoulder is always an option as is riding down sidewalks or cutting across yards to escape. Fact is,, I would rather pay a small fine for a citation that an ununderstanding LEO wrote me for doing so than I would end up being dead at the hands of some kid who chose to use his car as a weapon.. Simply pulling over and lettin them pass (I do this A LOT when driving our KIA cause I dont wanna end up K.I.A. with "he lost in a road rage contest" written on my tomb stone ) is another one that gets overlooked a lot IMHO.. Ya just gotta be careful when employing this method because allowing room for the perp to follow you to a stop can be a HUGE fatal no-no..
