  1. Spot on on all counts... Take ya more time to line up the crank or cam marks to make sure the lobes are 180 off the tappets than it will to do the actual adjusting.. Pretty cool actually,,, no feeler gauges reguired,,, just good micrometer feel with your fingers to bottom them out and cakes all dough,,, easy peasy:thumbsup:
  2. "The Engine" he says "The Engine" with a funny look on his face 76 horse:fiddle: I said it when I rode it out at Sturgis,,, felt like I was back on an Evo,,, maybe an 88 inch twin cam... Definitely rear view mirror of the dinky little 1200cc V-4 1st Gen material Now the Honda,,, I still think if anyone deserves to be paid in cold hard cash for RnDing the new machines,,, it's Honda,, they actually have earned the price hikes if anyone has IMHO... Mom Yam should have sought design advice on Venturerider instead of Star Touring
  3. So what do you think Duey? Are we talking nothing more than than a wireless 1/4 turn throttle as such and what the new owners of the 113 are feeling in performance gains equate to nothing other than a twitchyness that can come as of the result of such? I am eagerly waiting now to redo a test ride on the one and cant wait to see if this is wrong.. I am hoping to see a huge change in rev limits and power delivery increases - we'll figure it out,,, one way or the other...
  4. and that my dear brother is why I LOVE my "job" here of being a and, at times, feel sorry for you and the moderators who have to do the tough job stuff around here to keep things upright .. When Tip and I get to MD and I introduce you to her,, look at her and say = Puc tell's me that he was/is the "Party Parent" and you have always had to be the "Party Pooper Parent".. Then ask her to define the meaning of that and her answer will give you some insight into why I make the comment above pertaining to our club "jobs" Really brother,, ask her,,, she is gone right now and will have no forewarning of what is coming,,, you will get a kick of how she responds,, guarenteed I see your point Don,, THANK YOU for taking the time to explain this,, it is greatly appreciated as are you and all of our moderators who volunteer their time to make our club so amazingly special!!
  5. Not me be baby,,,,,, I still wish Mom Yam would have taken that exact fairing/body style of the new Venture and dropped a big block 1700cc V-4, watercooled, shaft drive motor into it.. Then,, instead of only using the very bottom of the Jet Intake looking grills as actual functioning anything so those same old/same old side deflectors of yesteryear that bolt onto the sides of the fairings had to be incorporated to get any form of actual cooling going on,,, those awesome looking fake intakes could have been put to REAL use as air intakes for the injection system to feed that great big gorgeous V-Maxin big block V-4 all the air in needs to put a major stompin on any other touring bike on the road all while taking it rider and passenger on the most awesome cross country touring expeditions possible no matter what ambient tempts it encounters... I know,,, I am one sick puppy
  6. I am not surprised,,, I KNOW, at times, I am hard to follow... Lets try this angle and see if what I am trying to say comes thru clearer.. I wish it would be ok for me to post the following in the Watering Hole for discussion purposes with out violating any forum rules: EXAMPLE of the type of post I wish I could make = EXAMPLE ONLY (well,, not completely,, I REALLY do love this little bike): WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,,, LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!! Click on the CL link below and tell me what you think = aint that the purdiest little whippin 2 stroker street scoot ya ever did see?? Any of you varmints ever own one?? https://grandrapids.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1973-suzuki-gt185/6593729975.html ########END OF EXAMPLE Currently, under our forum rules the above post is in violation of our rules.. I would vote that the forum rules be changed to allow the above and others like it... Thats what I was getting at with my fishing example,,,, which, by the way,,,, I thought was very cleverly done and I am glad I used it cause it Marcarl and woke him up!!! THE END,,,, till next time
  7. Actually it's not a complete redesign of the 113, the bottom end is the only complete redesign, most of the top end goes all the way to the 06 Strat 113. I had read a similar comment about this but when I looked at the cutaway under glass, the top end looked very familiar and I asked about it and was told that very few changes were made on the top end design. Here is a parts shot of a Raider 113,, notice the adjusters on the ends of the rockers for the second set of valves on each one? and a link to the diagram: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/500479fef8700209bc798ae5/valve
  8. Pt. 2, 2018 Blessing of the Bikes, I found my HD riding friends way up north!! Look on a map of Michigan,, follow M-37 north until you get to Baldwin,,, did you find it? Now keep going north, up past Government Lake,, up past where 10 comes in from the west,, keep going but watch off to the left side of 37 and you will see a little town called "Irons" - I spent many many many years in this area deer hunting with my Dad when I was a kid and then doing the same with my own family,,, hunting, camping and playing in the wilderness was a way of life... Funny my Harley riding buddies chose this spot not 5 miles from where I call my second home to park their amazing rolling motels!!! Had a blast!!! Get out and ride!!!
  9. A quick ride thru video yesterday of this years Blessing.. Not the best weather but not a bad turnout anyway!!! Sorry about the shakies but riding one handed while standing up on Tweeks pegs and trying to video with the other hand and not hurt an innocent bystander in the process seems to be getting more and more difficult every passing year,,,, still fun though!!
  10. Well,, I am certainly farrr from being any form of a professional mechanic/engineer and I truthfully dont even know what a "B.Y.M" even is but I do know that I have set my share of valve clearances on scoots thru the years and have found that a normal clearance to my likin is 3 thou on the intakes and 5 thou on the exhaust... BUT,,, and this is important IMHO,, those clearances are clearances I have used on non hydraulic lifter motors,, simple and sweet as apple pie.. I did notice the single valve adjustment on each rocker assembly on the cutaway of the 113 down at Sturgis (as shown in the vid below that agrees with the diagram that Duey posted) and truthfully,,,,, the whole sales pitch idea about the single adjustment to zero being related to the Yams advance heat management technology never even entered my mind.. I looked at it and thought it was probably more of an adjustment to "zero" the outer valve clearance on each rocker just to keep the valves in close proximity to each other when opening, figuring the hydraulic lifters themself's would be doing the same thing hydraulically as they have been doing on other push rod engines for years = no adjustment there needed.. Looking at the specs now and rethinking the whole scenario,, I can see where a valve adjustment on one of these 113's would basically be no more than lining up the crank marks so the cam lob would be off the lifter then loosening the locknut on that outer rocker valve adjuster and, treating the adjuster like you would a micrometer - dial it down till ya feel it touch the valve and lock er up with the lock nut - easy peasy so the adjustment stem does turn when ya retighten the lock nut and mess up your valve clearance adjustment job... I am still not sure where the whole heat management pitch comes into play as I see it as having more to do with it being a basic hydraulic lifter scenario only it's serving double duty cause one pushrod is now opening two valves BUT,, again,, I am a simpleton and by no means a BYM...
  11. Try to follow and stick with me here, this could more wordy than a discussion between @Marcarl and @saddlebum about whose lawn is growing faster and I apologise for that but I just dont know no other way to say it so: Picture all of us sitting around a lake with our fishing poles in pole holders, beverage in hand,,,, talking bikes like we love to do cause after all,,, we are a motorcycle club... I walk over and grab the local paper out of Tweeks saddlebag, turn to the classifieds, spy a real pretty Yamaha RD350 in the classifieds, point at it and say "I had one of these when I was a kid and WOWZY did it boogy!!".. Freebird puts his pole back in its holder after freshly baiting his hook, reaches over, takes the paper, takes a peek and says,,,, "I had one too and, as I recall,, my Kawasaki H1 like this - he points to a different classified ad showing an H1 - would put a major whoopin on it". Condor then grabs the classifieds from Freebird and says "Nahhhh,,, I always LOVED the looks and performance of the Arial Square Four right here" and points to yet another ad... I think this version of classified ads discussion should be allowed at the Waterhole's edge and is actually fun and healthy . Now lets try another version: We are all setting around the same lake, same scenario,, only this time I pull the classifieds from Tweeks saddle bag, walk over to Freebird and Condor and say - see this ad, this is my bike I have for sale, it is a 1973 RD350 and I want $2900 for it,, please buy it from me,,,,,, and I keep doing this.. Day after day I keep trying to sell stuff to my friends who are sitting fishing and wanting to talk bikes... Pretty soon,,, less and less of my friends are showing up for the chit chat because its no longer chit chat about bikes, or fishin,, or girls ,,,,,, it's become nothing more than me trying to sell stuff which gets old fast.. Definitly a non fun or healthy scenario cause being subject to constant used car salesman type chit chat is only fun if you happen to be members of a used car sales club - which we are not,, we're a bike club with an eating disorder,,, or was that an eating club with a biking disorder.. Personally,, I wish we could be free to do scenario 1 without it creating problems and just leave the classifieds as they are for folks who want to sell stuff. There,, I said what I wanted to say,,, I see Carl and Ben are still :Im not listening toabout their lawns,,, ,, I wonder who really does have the fastest growing weeds,,,,, hey you two lop eared varmints,,, did I tell you two about the new fertilizer I found? It's got a label on it that says it contains no Bull Manure and spreads very easily and,,,,,,,
  12. Hi,, I'm Cowpuc and I am bikeaholic. It's a blessing and a curse of a disease that has affected me throughout my entire life.. I have owned literally hundreds and hundreds of motorcycles of all types, styles, engine designs and breeds and to this day I have not met one I didnt like,, this includes mopeds, minibikes and even bicycles I have hacksawed the frames out of just to put a lawn mower engine in to make them "real" motorcycles.. My disease is so horrid that I talk to my motorcycles like a woman talks to a plant and for the same reason - to let them know that they are loved and have been accepted as part of the Puc family. Usually my motorcycles respond to my conversations but if they do not, I take them out and break them like a Cowboy would break a horse (I am accurate in this because I have literally broken horses too,, been a few years but I did it) and then they always respond. Some of my favorite motorcycles of all times have been,,,, well,, all of the motorcycles that I have owned throughout my life. I never played favorites with my kids and I surely never played favorites with my bikes either - see,, told you,, its a sickness,, an incurable hopeless sickness that if you dont have it - you dont want it because if you catch it (or are born with it like I was) - you will never ever ever ever be happy again with just one motorcycle, its that bad,, really!!
  13. Like I said earlier,, it would be very easy to find out the legitimacy of the auction with a quick phone call to the dealership.. Also, if you go back to the auction and click on "Visit Store" and the look at the store title at the top of the page you will notice it lists the dealership as the store "owner".. In my experience, it is not uncommon for an established dealership to use outside assistance for listing items on Ebay that they are having difficulty selling. As a matter of fact, some dealership will actually have employees who work directly for them list these types of items under their individual accounts - I suppose this helps in preventing development of becoming known as an "Ebay Dealership" which may or may not carry a stigma of some sort and/or it could all have something to do with Taxes stuff - reguardless,, I have seen it many many times. I too noticed as suggested that the bikes are still listed as MSRP on the Allsport site. It also not uncommon for dealerships to do exactly that and require potential customers to "call for pricing". I did notice that they, Allsport wants a person to call about pricing only if they are sincerely interested in purchasing a bike = totally understandable too.. I am not sincerely interested in purchasing one so I did not make the phone call just to prove a point here.. I did notice their email addy did not share the same stipulation so I did send them off an email that read: Could you tell me if the no reserve auction for the 2018 Yamaha/Star Venture TC with the starting bid of $23000 registered under your dealership name is a legitimate auction and is the wording of "no add on fee's" correct? The auction that I am referring to can be found here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-Yamaha-VENTURE-/202316210567?hash=item2f1afc6187 If this auction is not legit, please be aware that someone is falsely misrepresenting your company.. Please let me know one way or the other. Thank you!! Scott (Cowpuc) and, if someone at Allsport responds to my email I will post it up...
  14. I really never cared much for falling down on a scoot but I double cant stand it if I am on someone elses bike.. If it's gotta happen,, I would rather have them drop mine then have me drop theirs.. Tell your buddy that old Pucster knows how he feels and that the only advice I have to help the ego bruising that may have takin place is to save some cash and after fixing yours - pick up one of his own:thumbsup: Glad he's ok Cha!!

  16. I am sure there is some validity to what your saying Yamster cause our country did in fact get sold out economically in the not to distant past by forces who evidently believed in other forms of management then prosperity thru good old fashion hard work BUT,, that still doesnt answer the question of why/ow the new Wing is seeing such an amazing sell out in almost exactly the same location as the rough sell for the SVTC/ELUDER.. I have heard thru reliable sources that one Honda dealer alone in Arkansas has already sold and delivered over 40 of the new Wings and that does not include their increase in NOS Wings and/or used ones taken in on trade.. This leads me to believe that there may actually be something more to it all then simple economics.. I got to meet the Star riders who were behind the whole "lets go air cooled V-Twin" idea down out at Americade last year at the world release and clearly,, they thought following Harley would be the way to go.. I REALLY wish I had access to their forum reports (Star Touring?) just to read/hear how many of those past Strat/Roadliner riders actually did jump on board... THAT would be interesting!! I do find it interesting that Canada is sold out on the new one too though,,, definitely something going on here brother!!
  17. Having been reminded now from several sources that the reason the SVTC Demo bikes I have ridden were so putzy when compared to my little 74 inch V-4 Ventures is because I was in "Tour Mode" instead of "Sport Mode".. After reading a particular comment about this innocent mistake on my behalf it suddenly occurred to me that I have, to date,, not read any great detail about what actually happens internally,, mechanically,,, electronically when the new Venture is put in "Sport Mode" that causes the huge increase in performance.. I know it is completely possible for all computer parameters to be changed within a given ECM so instantly things like rev limiters, valve - fuel and ignition timing can be altered and even servo operated "V-Boost" type systems located in intake tracks or exhaust tracks (in my R1 this is called an Ex-Up valve) could probably be affected.. Also,,, I know from riding other bikes that it is common for the "ride by wire" non-cabled throttle system to be affected by this type of selectable electronic control but that is nothing more then what we used to do by putting a 1/4 turn throttle on a dirt bike which did nothing to change anything internally as far as HP/Torque gains so I am sure there is wayyyy more going on with that little button than this... Anyway,,, any of you gearheads out there got a clue??? Anyone even understand the question??

and a massive x100 right back at cha,,, a HUGE THANK YOU for bringing it to our attention Jack!!! It's so easy to get caught up in everyday normal life around the club house here and forget to monitor such things as you pointed out.. Thanks Condor,,, YOU DA MAN and I am proud to call you my brother/friend:happy34:!!! Also,, THANK YOU @Freebird for sending the flowers off to Dan's family on our behalf brother,,, it's hard to put into words how much that was appreciated..... WOWZY WOW WOW WOW I miss hangin with my friend..
  19. Very well done IMHO.. I gotta say though,, the heart throbbing, music to my ears engine sounds that they start out with right at the very beginning of the video sounded nothing even remotely close to what I heard on any of the new Ventures that I have demoed to date,,,,, or,, what I heard at Americade at the world release for that matter.. In fact, had that been the sound I heard coming from the darkness where the new bikes were sitting off the stage at Americade,, I would have been jumping up and down on the seat of my chair and screaming at the top of my lungs "SHE DID IT,,, MOM YAM HEARD US AND SHE DID IT, SHE REALLY TRUELY HAS TURNED THE TOURING WORLD UPSIDE DOWN!!!" instead of just following the planned script of clapping my hands and shouting "Yea" when the camera's came on as instructed by the guy in charge of the new release at Americade..
  20. ,, just had this pointed out to me by a good friend of mine,, that original auction where the new SVTC was being offered at no reserve for a starting bid of 24k out the door got no bids and is now being offered as shown in this relist at 23k:scared: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-Yamaha-VENTURE/202316210567?hash=item2f1afc6187:g:YWYAAOSwslda9JNC It appears that this is in fact a real deal offering as the dealership name is stated in the auction and they do come up in a google search as an actual dealer down near Huntsville Alabama.. I am sure that a simple phone call to them could/would easily verify whether or not this unusual offering for a 1st year, newly released bike is legit.. Personally,, if I were interested in buying one of these scoots,, I would call them and inquire and when I did, I would ask about possibly buying one outside of Ebay = subtracting the amount that the dealership would have had to pay Ebay would the sale have gone thru them may in fact land a person one of these new SVTC's for closer to 22k out the door. It appears by the picture and the copy of the ad that they have more than one SVTC they are trying to sell and I just have a hunch that this would be doable because the dealership would still have inventory to sell to those that prefer to work thru Ebay (there is a slight amount of added security in going thru Ebay, especially if the sale involves using Paypal at all). Noting this auction is now 2 days old and it has no bids either,,, IMHO, it will be interesting to follow this to conclusion to see if they drop another grand should it get no bids by auction conclusion..
  21. Hi Terry and a hearty = !!!! Terry,, is your 91's rear shock manual djust on it's air ride or does your scoot have an onboard compressor? Do you do 2 up touring or 1 up?
  22. Hey Cruise,,, because I am a human bean too and have hit the keyboard at times to participate in our club activities here on several occasions, I can honestly say I know exactly how you feel and where you are coming from.. Something I learned early on during a time when I was taking something said here a little more personally than I should have was that because this is the internet and our communications here are completely limited to the written word with zero access to the all the other modes of communication that support items like contextual support, I needed to do a reality check on my skin thickness meter. That reality check time period for me provided me with the incentive to actually get out and meet,, in real life, numbers of the people here on VR so I could in fact see for myself whether or not my feelings were justified.. Here is what I found after doing just that and engaging all those other modes of communications with Don (Freebird) and many other site managers and members here at VR: 1. Don really doesnt get mad or do things out of spite,,, quite frankly,, that is not in his nature.. What is in Don's nature is the ability to run one of the finest internet websites available and a HUGE part of that comes out in his organizational skill. Once I met Don and thought about the size of the task he deals with on a daily basis just in maintaining equalibrium here on the site I decided to give him a break and try to examine any future hard feelings on my part as a result of actions he had taken on the site under the light of understanding this. In the end,, I think a little thicker skin on my part was formed and, IMHO,, that thicker skin has made my time here in the club more enjoyable. 2. Much mention has been made on the site of a penalty box, club probation and on and on. Quite frankly,,, those things are actually a myth.. We may joke around about being singled out and set aside for a cooling off period or something but the fact is,, its all a myth.. What is not a myth is that, on the very very rare occasion that we really do end up with a real bad egg in our midst,, someone who is out to destroy our club or injure one of our members,,, without getting mad - Don will step in and do the not so much fun job of unplugging the persons membership BUT again,, even that is very rare. 3. I include this ONLY because it is a good example of how easy it is for things to go south when judgement is made only by the written word.. I started picking on a really good friend and brother of mine here on the site and started a rumor that he had a machine that produces snow and that he controls the weather. A while into this picking on my brother time and during a phone conversation with him, I was shocked to learn that he actually had people who were actually upset with him over what he had done to the weather:doh:... He and I chuckled about that but truthfully,, when I looked at my own heart and the times that I had misinterpreted things I had read on the site I realised that, in some cases,, even the thought that someone believed there was one ioda of truth behind my joke involving my teasing of my friend did have a side to it that is not funny.. Fact is,, FlyinFool really does not control the weather.. I guess what I am saying here is that,, again IMHO,, that old saying about judging a book by it's cover may have some really deep value to it for for those who want to look for it.... Oh great,,,, now I am back on club probation for calling Don a book
  23. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW what a day,,, glad to be home to maybe get some shut eye (being a Grampa can be grueling). It appears your kindness and steadfastness of thoughts and Prayers Up for the lil feller took root cause they produced what looks like a really good outcome our 15 month old grandson!! All went well = one more huge THANKS TO EACH OF YOU again!! They decided he was just to little to take his tonsils but they did biopsy and "shrink" them with heat. The tubes are in and the adinoids are history.. Even after being knocked out from surgery and dealing with the pain thru engaging his tear ducts = he smiled at me while he was crying afterwards as if to say "I am ok grampa" - tough little gipper that one.. We noticed already that his breathing is easier and are really excited for him to experience a little less trouble with those inner ears. Tip and I were sittin in the hallway of the recovery room area waiting patiently to hear news from our daughter/son-in-law inside those doors when a lady walked by with a "get well" balloon,, I told Tip I'd be right back and away I went in search of a balloon for Birdie (nickname = grandson). I noticed the gift shop had numerous ones, then noticed the BIG "Finding Dory" Dory balloon and asked if they happened to have a matching "Nemo" (Birdies favorite stuffed toy at home).. They looked and looked to no avail so Dory it was... Sitting back in the hallway, that great big Dory balloon got lots of thumbs up, than a Doctor came over and commented about the "theme" of it all and how applicable it was when she reminded us to tell Birdie to "Keep On Swimming" = really sweet!!! Forgot my camera thru all the excitement but will get a pic or two of Birdie and Dory soon as possible and share here as another thank you for your kindness! Besides,,, something inside me keeps telling me that thats what we grampa's are suppose to do (share pics of their grandkids )... You folks are a blessing = thank the Lord for each of you! Puc
