I really never cared much for falling down on a scoot but I double cant stand it if I am on someone elses bike.. If it's gotta happen,, I would rather have them drop mine then have me drop theirs.. Tell your buddy that old Pucster knows how he feels and that the only advice I have to help the ego bruising that may have takin place is to save some cash and after fixing yours - pick up one of his own:thumbsup: Glad he's ok Cha!!

I am sure there is some validity to what your saying Yamster cause our country did in fact get sold out economically in the not to distant past by forces who evidently believed in other forms of management then prosperity thru good old fashion hard work BUT,, that still doesnt answer the question of why/ow the new Wing is seeing such an amazing sell out in almost exactly the same location as the rough sell for the SVTC/ELUDER.. I have heard thru reliable sources that one Honda dealer alone in Arkansas has already sold and delivered over 40 of the new Wings and that does not include their increase in NOS Wings and/or used ones taken in on trade.. This leads me to believe that there may actually be something more to it all then simple economics.. I got to meet the Star riders who were behind the whole "lets go air cooled V-Twin" idea down out at Americade last year at the world release and clearly,, they thought following Harley would be the way to go.. I REALLY wish I had access to their forum reports (Star Touring?) just to read/hear how many of those past Strat/Roadliner riders actually did jump on board... THAT would be interesting!! I do find it interesting that Canada is sold out on the new one too though,,, definitely something going on here brother!!

Having been reminded now from several sources that the reason the SVTC Demo bikes I have ridden were so putzy when compared to my little 74 inch V-4 Ventures is because I was in "Tour Mode" instead of "Sport Mode".. After reading a particular comment about this innocent mistake on my behalf it suddenly occurred to me that I have, to date,, not read any great detail about what actually happens internally,, mechanically,,, electronically when the new Venture is put in "Sport Mode" that causes the huge increase in performance.. I know it is completely possible for all computer parameters to be changed within a given ECM so instantly things like rev limiters, valve - fuel and ignition timing can be altered and even servo operated "V-Boost" type systems located in intake tracks or exhaust tracks (in my R1 this is called an Ex-Up valve) could probably be affected.. Also,,, I know from riding other bikes that it is common for the "ride by wire" non-cabled throttle system to be affected by this type of selectable electronic control but that is nothing more then what we used to do by putting a 1/4 turn throttle on a dirt bike which did nothing to change anything internally as far as HP/Torque gains so I am sure there is wayyyy more going on with that little button than this... Anyway,,, any of you gearheads out there got a clue??? Anyone even understand the question??

and a massive x100 right back at cha,,, a HUGE THANK YOU for bringing it to our attention Jack!!! It's so easy to get caught up in everyday normal life around the club house here and forget to monitor such things as you pointed out.. Thanks Condor,,, YOU DA MAN and I am proud to call you my brother/friend:happy34:!!! Also,, THANK YOU @Freebird for sending the flowers off to Dan's family on our behalf brother,,, it's hard to put into words how much that was appreciated..... WOWZY WOW WOW WOW I miss hangin with my friend..

Very well done IMHO.. I gotta say though,, the heart throbbing, music to my ears engine sounds that they start out with right at the very beginning of the video sounded nothing even remotely close to what I heard on any of the new Ventures that I have demoed to date,,,,, or,, what I heard at Americade at the world release for that matter.. In fact, had that been the sound I heard coming from the darkness where the new bikes were sitting off the stage at Americade,, I would have been jumping up and down on the seat of my chair and screaming at the top of my lungs "SHE DID IT,,, MOM YAM HEARD US AND SHE DID IT, SHE REALLY TRUELY HAS TURNED THE TOURING WORLD UPSIDE DOWN!!!" instead of just following the planned script of clapping my hands and shouting "Yea" when the camera's came on as instructed by the guy in charge of the new release at Americade..

,, just had this pointed out to me by a good friend of mine,, that original auction where the new SVTC was being offered at no reserve for a starting bid of 24k out the door got no bids and is now being offered as shown in this relist at 23k:scared: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-Yamaha-VENTURE/202316210567?hash=item2f1afc6187:g:YWYAAOSwslda9JNC It appears that this is in fact a real deal offering as the dealership name is stated in the auction and they do come up in a google search as an actual dealer down near Huntsville Alabama.. I am sure that a simple phone call to them could/would easily verify whether or not this unusual offering for a 1st year, newly released bike is legit.. Personally,, if I were interested in buying one of these scoots,, I would call them and inquire and when I did, I would ask about possibly buying one outside of Ebay = subtracting the amount that the dealership would have had to pay Ebay would the sale have gone thru them may in fact land a person one of these new SVTC's for closer to 22k out the door. It appears by the picture and the copy of the ad that they have more than one SVTC they are trying to sell and I just have a hunch that this would be doable because the dealership would still have inventory to sell to those that prefer to work thru Ebay (there is a slight amount of added security in going thru Ebay, especially if the sale involves using Paypal at all). Noting this auction is now 2 days old and it has no bids either,,, IMHO, it will be interesting to follow this to conclusion to see if they drop another grand should it get no bids by auction conclusion..

Hello, new here. Have a question about the ride height on my VR.
cowpuc replied to Terry Love's topic in Watering Hole
Hi Terry and a hearty = !!!! Terry,, is your 91's rear shock manual djust on it's air ride or does your scoot have an onboard compressor? Do you do 2 up touring or 1 up? -
Hey Cruise,,, because I am a human bean too and have hit the keyboard at times to participate in our club activities here on several occasions, I can honestly say I know exactly how you feel and where you are coming from.. Something I learned early on during a time when I was taking something said here a little more personally than I should have was that because this is the internet and our communications here are completely limited to the written word with zero access to the all the other modes of communication that support items like contextual support, I needed to do a reality check on my skin thickness meter. That reality check time period for me provided me with the incentive to actually get out and meet,, in real life, numbers of the people here on VR so I could in fact see for myself whether or not my feelings were justified.. Here is what I found after doing just that and engaging all those other modes of communications with Don (Freebird) and many other site managers and members here at VR: 1. Don really doesnt get mad or do things out of spite,,, quite frankly,, that is not in his nature.. What is in Don's nature is the ability to run one of the finest internet websites available and a HUGE part of that comes out in his organizational skill. Once I met Don and thought about the size of the task he deals with on a daily basis just in maintaining equalibrium here on the site I decided to give him a break and try to examine any future hard feelings on my part as a result of actions he had taken on the site under the light of understanding this. In the end,, I think a little thicker skin on my part was formed and, IMHO,, that thicker skin has made my time here in the club more enjoyable. 2. Much mention has been made on the site of a penalty box, club probation and on and on. Quite frankly,,, those things are actually a myth.. We may joke around about being singled out and set aside for a cooling off period or something but the fact is,, its all a myth.. What is not a myth is that, on the very very rare occasion that we really do end up with a real bad egg in our midst,, someone who is out to destroy our club or injure one of our members,,, without getting mad - Don will step in and do the not so much fun job of unplugging the persons membership BUT again,, even that is very rare. 3. I include this ONLY because it is a good example of how easy it is for things to go south when judgement is made only by the written word.. I started picking on a really good friend and brother of mine here on the site and started a rumor that he had a machine that produces snow and that he controls the weather. A while into this picking on my brother time and during a phone conversation with him, I was shocked to learn that he actually had people who were actually upset with him over what he had done to the weather:doh:... He and I chuckled about that but truthfully,, when I looked at my own heart and the times that I had misinterpreted things I had read on the site I realised that, in some cases,, even the thought that someone believed there was one ioda of truth behind my joke involving my teasing of my friend did have a side to it that is not funny.. Fact is,, FlyinFool really does not control the weather.. I guess what I am saying here is that,, again IMHO,, that old saying about judging a book by it's cover may have some really deep value to it for for those who want to look for it.... Oh great,,,, now I am back on club probation for calling Don a book

Please do some Prayers Up for my little grandson this Friday..
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
WOWZY WOW WOW WOW what a day,,, glad to be home to maybe get some shut eye (being a Grampa can be grueling). It appears your kindness and steadfastness of thoughts and Prayers Up for the lil feller took root cause they produced what looks like a really good outcome our 15 month old grandson!! All went well = one more huge THANKS TO EACH OF YOU again!! They decided he was just to little to take his tonsils but they did biopsy and "shrink" them with heat. The tubes are in and the adinoids are history.. Even after being knocked out from surgery and dealing with the pain thru engaging his tear ducts = he smiled at me while he was crying afterwards as if to say "I am ok grampa" - tough little gipper that one.. We noticed already that his breathing is easier and are really excited for him to experience a little less trouble with those inner ears. Tip and I were sittin in the hallway of the recovery room area waiting patiently to hear news from our daughter/son-in-law inside those doors when a lady walked by with a "get well" balloon,, I told Tip I'd be right back and away I went in search of a balloon for Birdie (nickname = grandson). I noticed the gift shop had numerous ones, then noticed the BIG "Finding Dory" Dory balloon and asked if they happened to have a matching "Nemo" (Birdies favorite stuffed toy at home).. They looked and looked to no avail so Dory it was... Sitting back in the hallway, that great big Dory balloon got lots of thumbs up, than a Doctor came over and commented about the "theme" of it all and how applicable it was when she reminded us to tell Birdie to "Keep On Swimming" = really sweet!!! Forgot my camera thru all the excitement but will get a pic or two of Birdie and Dory soon as possible and share here as another thank you for your kindness! Besides,,, something inside me keeps telling me that thats what we grampa's are suppose to do (share pics of their grandkids )... You folks are a blessing = thank the Lord for each of you! Puc -
How to r & r the tires on 2nd gen?
cowpuc replied to VentureFar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wish that lop eared Carbon_One varmint would of invented an adapter for the 1st Gens,,,,, if ya had one of those on that prize table at MD this year I would pull the old "hey you guys,, LOOK at the pond monster" routine while I lured the adapter into Tweeks saddle bag next to the left over fried chicken legs:big-grin-emoticon: -
Proper salemenship code must read differently in Zona cause around these parts its customary to not let the customer know about add-on and hidden fees until they have paid for the product and taken a sip (makes the product non returnable - we also follow USDA rules to the letter)... It's ok though Vaz,,,, after a short time of hangin with Tip, Tweeksis and I and you'll catch on to our way of life up here:stirthepot:

How many of these bikes were produced?
cowpuc replied to DougS's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
,,,,, what da heck,,,, I will take one on the chin for all V-4 lovers past, present and future and risk repeating myself in the hope that Mom Yam may be listening here instead of to her faithful Strat riders this time (nothin wrong with the Strats,, they just arent Ventures IMHO): """"I have been a Yamaha enthusiast for many many years and they have proven to me over and over again that they are TOPS!! Owned a couple early YZ monoshock MX bikes way back and they were AWESOME!! My little RD350 and RD250 (remains still in my basement) were giant killers - proving Yamaha's superiority in R&D!! My 73 XS650 beat across the country with me on its back several times, chopped it and rode it many more miles until sold. Bought a brand new 650 Special, AWESOME "cloned" mini Harley that saw the west too!! My faith in mother Yamaha has been proven 5 times over by my continual riding of the 1st Gen Ventures starting in 1987 until present day with my 83 that has almost 300k on it!! Fact is, folks at Yamaha, I AM READY FOR THE NEXT PHASE!! All that said, here is my feeble wish list: 1700cc V-4 "V-Max" motor.. Detune it if you must (just like before) but please,, dont do another V-Twin - got enough of em.. You guys can do it,, I KNOW YOU CAN!! Shaft drive! EFI with a tunable tuner - even if its an add on - please provide one so we can tune it!! LED lighting. Engine guarding and saddle bag guarding. Adjustable bars like on the first gen. Factory tank and windshield bags. Fixed Fairing. Get the same Doctors who advised you on constructing the seat of the 1st Gens (cant remember what you call those guys) to advise you on this one - my kids, wife and I LOVE what they did!! Keep the seat height difference between the rider and passenger no more than 3 inches (2 is great) - raising the passenger higher causes weight imbalance and makes slow speed riding harder. Ease of removal of the trunk(s) for changing rear tire. Center stand. Forward boards with normal foot pegs located rearward so standing up while riding is still possible, shift and brake levers at both locations (no heal toe please). Hand warmers. Key removable rear trunk and bags. Grease zerks on all main pivot points. High output stator even though it has LED's. Double check the gear sets in the tranny and make sure they ramp up solidly. Oversized clutch to insure NO slippage in high gears with xtra weight. 42 millimeter front fork tubes with progressive springs. Imbed reflective tape (or use reflective paint) in paint lines (like pin striping) so all profiles of bike light up when grazed by car lights. Add a large foot onto side stand - tired of bending over to pick up stand plate after parking on loose ground. Explore which tire sizes are the most common and build around those standards so tire choices and finding them are easy. Remember those long grips you used on the first gens? Use those, I love bending them back onto my knees. Enclose the motor well to keep ANY objectional heat off both riders BUT - use lots of venting with plenums to act as heaters when needed. Windshield it so the rear rider remains in the protective air pocket - functional vents in shield and fairing to adjust air movement if needed (hey,, could be asking for servo operated shield but I dont care for more things to go wrong). 6 speed Over drive tranny. Use GOOD solder, especially with ECU pins. QC the daylights out of it! DONT go cheap and trust the Chinese!! Dont short us on wire harness leads so wiring is tight - xtra 1/4 inch really helps!! Make fairing panels easy to remove but not so they fall off. Supply printable shop manual disc and printed well written owners manual. Supply GOOD factory tire pressure guage. Chrome is out for me, I LOVE dull stainless (like the pipes on the "New" V-Max),, matter of fact,, build mine with no rustable chrome and all dull stainless!! Intercom, CB and radio would be nice.. Keep the tape deck. OK, if you REALLY are reading this and you like what I am talking,, PLEASE make mine just a little faster in stock form than anyone elses.. Not that I would ever use the extra pazzaazz but I have buddies that I gotta compete with and just KNOWING I have the fastest one would be worth an extra grand to me I KNOW you can do it!! Keep the faith mother Yamaha - I AM!! Puc"""" 2019: The Return Of The Jet Eyed -

Your nickname is "Gas"?? Never knew that,,, here I been calling ya Ty all this time.... -
I totally get that Yamster as I am from the Great Lakes region too BUT Mom Yam did give the new scoot star billing as a Trans Continential touring bike and I am sure that there are folks (myself included) that take that title to mean that the new Venture will be at least as capible as the older versions of handling the tour those warmer regions should the rider be so inclined to tour such areas.. Personally,, I LOVE the desert and consider CTFW across it on a yearly basis the very heartbeat of touring a motorcycle - especially when it's in all it's +100 degrees glory and so dry that not even 1 moskeetoe can survive= no bugs allowed!!
-
Funny you mention this Bog,,,,,, I just noticed my membership with that group of lop eared VR varmints club is about to expire and was thinking of putting up a lemonaide stand on the route to MD just north of you to see if I could come up with the quick cash to pay my dues. If you happen to end up taking the Northern route to go South east to Dons and notice a couple old guys (gotta friend I am riding with who has a GPS so we dont get lost), a pretty lady, a normal bike and then a homely one covered in stickers in the ditch selling lemonaid = STOP and buy a cup = it's only $12 a cup (may as well make enough to cover future dues too).. Ride safe and see ya in Oberlin!! Puc

The little lop eared varmints gotta go in for tubes in the ears, adinoids out and possible tonsil removal this Friday.. If you think about him, please lift him up in prayer and/or share some thoughts about him sending him some love.. He's a fun little varmint that his grandpa wishes I could take this surgery for - wonderful thing this being a Grand Pappy is!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOLKS!!!! Puc This is an old vid,,, the little Junior VR member is wayyyyy into walking by his own self now but you'll get the point of what I mean by PURE PRECIOUSNESS by this... Prayers Up Birdie!!

I actually think my tire wear has more to do with high speed desert travel on high high temp tarmac than wear from off roading Chief.. I only say that because it is customary and common for me to find my rear tire gathered in the form of dust smeared all over my saddle bags after touring thru areas like Needles California to Vegas, Death Valley, Area 51, Big Bend Texas, Arizona south of the south rim, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and on and on.. Just my take from my experience... I never really noticed any form of unusual wear from off roading them...
-
I certainly cant speak for anyone other than myself but I have a hunch that the big question about heat issues revolve around a couple of criteria.. One of those is how the new Venture is going to function in higher Ambient temps (+90) as found when touring in area's like the deep south or the western states during the summer time.. I think the second criteria has to do with handling traffic jams and the like when the engine is getting no air movement across its cooling fins - this especially being the case in those same area's subject to regular everyday normal tempts well over 90 degrees ambient. In the end,, I suspect that due to the overwhelming comments being made now by folks who own and are riding this new wonder scoot and clearly seeing absolutely no evidence of any form of heat issues for themselves or their passengers (backing up what Mom Yam has been saying all along, that she had found a way to completely do away with the heat problems associated with past air cooled big twins) that in due time we will see video proof of someone taking the temps of the bike and the rider/passengers legs and feet with an infra red thermometer as suggested by numerous folks to add varifiable science into this debate.. After reading all the comments about no heat issues being found I truly look forward to that day and anxiously await the proof positive that Mom Yam really truly did do for the push rod air cooled V-Twin that which no one else in engine history has been able to do!! Exciting times to say the least!!

,,, heyyyy Tip,, LOOK WHAT DA CAT DRAGGED IN - IT'S THE ECKSTERRR!!!! Missed ya brother!!! Hope all is well down yonder and THANK YOU for the wisdom of the South found here!! Coming to MD?? Feeling better here every day and have full intent and a double :fingers-crossed-emo to make it down there this year!! Would be honored to shake your lop eared varmint paw if your headed up!!!! Puc

RLU BYPASS question
cowpuc replied to s.tyler58's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Nahhh,,, I figured drilling a hole thru the dash to bust that little red one eyed monster was more trouble than it was worth (and probably let water in and create other more serious issues) so I just taped over the thing on the outside.. Kind of cool too because late at night,, after "magic hour" and just when we were tired of riding 16 or 18 hours and covering a thousand miles or so,,, that little red one eyed monster could still be seen trying to peek around the tape..... Coulda made a bigger patch of tape but I sort of enjoyed teasing em...
