I was just outside about 2 hours ago flying my little helicopter around the front yard when, out of nowhere,, that great big naughty tree in the middle of our front yard reached out and snatched up my little Helicopter.. There sat my precious little flyer, about 30 feet up, lights still on but not enough power on the rotors to free itself as I throttled up on the transmitter,,, lousy rotten tree = pick on someone your own size!! Walked into my garage, grabbed a pellet gun and shot a good half dozen rounds at the skinny little branch that held my Copter hostage to no avail,, just not enough umphh.. I went back inside,,, grabbed my little 410 single shot, slipped a #6 shot in its little chamber and headed outside to rescue my chopper.. I looked up and down the neighborhood,, making sure that no one was watching,, I held the shooter along my leg in careful camo as I sought the perfect angle to insure that when the lead shot returned to earth after being launched it would not land on someone, or someones vehicle. After finding the perfect spot where the shot would land in the woods to the west of us , I located that skinny little branch and picked a 1/4 inch spot on the branch where a teeny little branch was sprouting from the larger branch that held my Helicopter.. Perfect!! The spot was about 14 inches from my chopper so I was pretty sure it would not be hit.. One more headcheck of the neighborhood and BANG!!! My little Helicopter hit the ground just about the time I nonchalantly stepped back into the garage,,,,, an unnoticed tree branch assassin with PERFECT stealth!!! Mission accomplished with only one tiny #6 shot hole thru a rotor!!! Ready,, if your reading this little true story I want to add one thing,,, 3 inch slugs are still available for my little shooter and it is even more accurate with slugs than it is with bird shot and I do loan it out Also,, as you well know,, them Bambi's make EXCELLENT Tamale fixens, talk about win win!!

Thanks brother,, I/we REALLY appreciate the offer!! At this time it appears that Vaz will be coming in sometime earlier in the week (Monday/Tuesday) so we can go explore those awesome roads in the upper regions our fine State.. Plan is to, like a couple of kids,, tote our tents and hit the State Land camping and/or behind dumpster camping (ooppss,, failed to mention that part of our planned expedition to Vaz ) from here to Sault St. Marie and back.. That said,, Lord only knows if/when or even how we will get to getting to Dons BUT we are planning on it.. I know,, like you and a few other Michigan lop eared varmints, I gotta be watching my back cause I done been there once (I actually got a P.M. from another one of my favorite Michigan brothers who has been there/done that and he said it best in his P.M. by saying "leave for Don's on Vacation and come home on Probation ) and, like you, folks have those preconcieved ideas of us but neither Tip nor Vaz have been there so it really is VERY important to us to make it so folks can make their own call on those two .. Meeting up Friday,,,, is a noon meet up to late in the day for you bro? I know it's 3 hours across state to your place so if we could get out of here by 9 (I would say earlier but WOWZY,, my poor old body cant handle the cold) we could see noon at The Motor City?? Also Jay,,, if any thing changes and we decide to go ahead and shoot over for a night in your campground,, what is the latest in the week that I can give ya a heads up without fear of Jeannie poking her Smith n Wesson .44 mag out the back door at us? Gonna be fun,,, looking forward to hanging out with ya again brother!! Puc Oh, by the way,,,, goes without saying,,, got lots of room over here for you and those other east siders to shoot over and ride upstate with us next week if any of ya's are interested... Puc

Actually Harley Davidson, by the definition explained above,, has not been pure air cooled for many many years.. They, HD, have used oil cooling by getting the oil out of the engine cases and exposed to air movement over the hot oil to cool it since way back at the beginning.. I have had many models of Harleys and can assure you guys that this is true.. Case in point, one of my most recent old Harleys, a 1942 WLA (I named her Olivia) that served in WW2 came to me from the original owners family who's Patriarch served in the European theater and owned Olivia from the time she returned to the States after her tour of duty until I purchased her and I can assure the readers here that what I am about to explain is, in fact, true 100% stock HD with no aftermarket oil coolers added. If you look at the pictures or watch the video below you will clearly see that Olivia's fuel tank has 2 caps.. In all actuality, the cap on the right hand side of that tank is actually an access point for her oil tank - believe it or not,, it is fact that 1/2 of what appears to be Olivias fuel tank is actually engine oil. While it may not appear to the untrained eye as an oil cooler per say,, the oil tank on Olivias back was actually designed exactly with that purpose in mind - to cool the oil by air passing over it.. Most of Olivia's predecessors had a similar design of oil an oil cooler (there was a short time that HD employed a "total loss system" where the oil pump was actually no more than a syringe mounted on the oil tank half of the fuel tank and to provide lubrication to the engine the rider would occasionally "pump" the syringe which would result in oil flow thru the bearings/journals with the exiting oil exiting out on the chain/ground and NOT being returned to the tank) - even the real early model Harleys with the rectangular tanks had them.. On other HD's that I have owned,,, including Choppers I have built from HD parts,, housed their oil bags (what us old timers called their oil tanks) under their seats but exposed front and sides to allow air flow for oil cooling. In 78 I won a brand new Shovelhead Low Rider on a job site and my Low Rider (named her Hoglia) came fully equipped with a factory HD forward mounted oil cooler that had the structure of a "radiator" as suggested above and it was, in fact, a genuine HD part.. -

Hi ya Slynk and ,,,, !!!!! Very glad you found us and also glad you took a second to jump in here and share your experiences with us!!! Also,,, on the new scoot Slynk,, she is GORGEOUS!!!! Some questions,,,, I too have been wondering how the response to the new Venture has been within the Star Riders as they are who Yamaha chose as designers of the new Venture. Basically wondering how many of the Star Riders have jumped on one of the new Ventures like yourself.. To date,, I have not been able to locate any forums that lead to answering that question (although I have not spent the money to join up with "Star Touring" - I guess I am just to cheap to spend the bucks just to ask the question)... Noticing you mentioning the Strat/Liner/Raider forums to be used for research - could you direct us to those forums that may hold the answer to that question? Also, noticing your experience with the Strat (I have a little too as I have a nephew who bought a new one in 06) and your comment about not having looked at the new Venture had it not had the 113 in it.. Does that comment also apply even if Mom Yam would have named the new bike a Stratotourer or Roadliner Tourer and then put a V-4 in it?? Because of your very good past experience with your Strat,, would you have then over looked the fact that even with your excellent experiences with your 113inch air cooled, push rod big twin, if the 113 had been abandoned to promote a water cooled V-4 placed within a new bike that clearly stated it was Yamaha's all new Stratoliner and all new Stratoliner Tourer - would you then have given the V-4 a try?? I know,, I am often told I am VERY difficult to follow sometimes,, if you need me to reword my questions,, PLEASE feel free to ask... Puc -
I highly doubt we will Jeff,,, doing so would involve rockin the Windy City and I think best to avoid those breezes this trip.. Initially Vaz had mentioned possibly grabbin a boat ride on the Cross Lake but the last I spoke to him I got the impression that he moved the search for a good old fashioned Thunderstorm up in priority over the boat ride and I think even his plans now include a trip thru the southern route instead of the boat ride... I know brother,, at some point here we gotta hook up,,, got LOTS to catch up on including seeing that super sonic sound barrier busting Jet air craft of yours in action... So many things to do,,, so little time to do em... PUC

Speaking of being reminded Snyp, a long lost crazy memory popped into my feeble mind when I read this... Years ago my oldest daughter and I were on one of my 1st Gens headed cross country for some daddy/daughter ride time,, we had just stopped and topped off our cup holders big gulp with another round of Mountain Dew and had gotten clearance from the tower to fly by a semi traveling at 15k feet.. We wicked up the turbine on the V-4 and just as we cleared the big rigs rear duelies a loose cannon pot hole appeared in the shade of the rig. We hit it square on so came thru it ok but the impact tossed the styro cup into the air in an end for end fashion of such that when I caught it with my left hand the lid popped off and we got an instant ice cold bath of Mountain Dew... After calming down from the instant ice bath we both started laughing and held the laughter all the way to the point of where the Dew dried up and we realised we were glued together from the sticky sugary mess even closer than we as a father/daughter team already had been... Ahhhhh the memories of CTFW's past...

Nahhh,,, we already know (C vids),, keeping in mind that this is comparing the little 74 inch vs 113 inch big twin so its really not apples to apples,,,,, what would really be interesting is to see how that other Yamaha scoot with the 1700cc V-4 would compare to the closer in size 1800cc/113inch if loaded down with all the xtra weight on it like Tip, Tweeks and I (or other normal touring riders) typically travel.. That would be interesting.. big one little one -
I just noticed these posted on Craigs - no idea if it involves my friend @Carbon_One but I do know I have seen several members wondering about these... Right there with ya Corporal Newkirk on all points except one. While I hold ABSOLUTELY no ill feelings toward ANY 3rd gen rider/owner/lover or what ever and would be PROUD to ride with and enjoy the company of any of those fine folks,, I DO hold ill feeling toward Mom Yam on this one.. Fact is,, if you read the post below from XV1100/Don concerning what could have been and what many of us were led to believe was GOING to be and my response to that post you are probably intelligent enough to easily understand why a simple nobody 1st Gen rider like myself may have those feelings... IMHO,, it is possible for someone to "earn" the right to be whiny, especially if they have been openly misled thru marketing propaganda over something that they clearly have invested years of their passion into.. Maybe some folks would consider what I am talking about as being some form of being "spoiled"?? I can see that too,,, as a matter of fact, I really truly feel like, after spending my life seeing the world from the saddle of a 1st Gen I actually do feel VERY spoiled = what an amazing machine!! In the end,, IMHO,,, I think some of us have earned the right to be a little whiny if we want to and I certainly do not think anyone has the right to tell me (or others) to move on any more than I have the right to tell them what bike to buy and be happy with..... This almost crosses into the personal attack zone IMHO.. Unfortunately I witnessed first hand Yamaha's marketing of the new bikes where they introduced the Star Riders who designed the new bike and chose the V-Twin platform.. Then later, at the Americade world release I sat in a front row seat and listened to the Yamaha reps proclaiming clearly again that it was indeed the Star Riders design input that resulted in the production of the SVTC and Eluder.. Later I actually met some of these folks and reconfirmed that it was, in fact,, their input and theirs alone that did this.. No sneak teams from Yamaha up into Canada were mentioned... This is why I keep mentioning that I wish I had access to the "Star Touring" forums as it would be very interesting to see just how many of the folks who are responsible for the new bikes design actually now are riding them.. and at the end of the day,,, that IS the rub XV!!! Mom Yam actually gave the new Venture "star billing" (no pun intended) with marketing words that said those words (NO COMPETITION),, they clearly stated the new bike was going to turn the touring world upside down!! It was the play on those very words that is, IMHO, a big part of what is now creating slow sales for them and continued open contriversy about whether or not the move toward as a clone to HD and chasing the Harley world, and going toe to toe with the leader in V-Twin design (HD) on MSRP was a good one or not.. IMHO as well as many others,,, just like you point out, had Mom Yam of sought design assistance from the faithful Venture owners of the past and heard what they clearly stated in threads like this one,,, I whole heartily agree/believe that there really would be NO COMPETITION, the touring really would have been turned up side down AND,, these on going contriversial debates would be one of many voices screaming ROCK ON MOM YAM instead of openly questioning her judgement!!!!! -
,, SKEETERRR!!!! Sup?? Glad to see you back at it here,, all the best on the new scoot and also (nothing has changed here):

?? - in your second paragraph - what is a "20 payoff"? Is thiseferencing installment Months? Having learned via experience thru the years,,, I do everything in my power to hold making the "getting an attorney involved" statement with companies as using the Attorney statement just never has worked out in my favor.. Instead,, I choose to let my attorney notify them once he has actually been invited to the party... In my experience,, even mentioning an attorney is a guarenteed way to, as you experienced have the doors of negotiations slammed shut and also build a permanent wall between yourself and your dealer that may not necessarily need to be built.. Personally,,, I think I would have called Harley Financial Services as soon as it appeared that the Yam shop was possibly scammin because the bike in question actually belongs to them . That could result in a simple communication/notification from HFS to the Yam shop that may have been all it would have taken to shake the tree and make the fruit fall.. If the Venture is also owned by a finance company I would also get them in the loop as they too are involved too and would actually be someone with authority and probably so much so that they would be the ones calling the dealership after a chat with HFS to shake the tree. I would simply look at my "titles" and find out who actually owns the bikes and go from there... Most dealerships are just a middleman, no more no less IMHO (not all though,, I actually had a trade offer in my dealership on a bike that was owned by a local Dealership who was carrying the loan in house - the seller was attempting to scam us by trading in a bike that did not belong to him = a simple phone call to the owning dealership got them their machine back that hadnt been paid on for over 6 months).. Thinking about this,, I really wonder if what I mention above still might not be your best hope for a quick solution.. I know one thing for absolute sure,, the "wheels of justice" work very very slooooowly (at least in my experience) and tend to be fairly expensive so be prepared for a POSSIBLE longgg summer of making double payments on stuff to keep things solvent if you do indeed choose to hit the courts up,,, also IMHO of course.. SORRY THIS ALL HAPPENED TO YOU BROTHER!!! Puc

,, lets start a Poll and see how many buyers of the new bikes came from the V-4 background such as yourself!! Those are ALWAYS a good time!!! -
I here that American and know where your coming from. If it weren't for my dealership background/understanding how it works with H.M. and contacts I would find it hard to belief as well. The dealership I am speaking of that has indeed already sold and delivered over 40 new Wings is: https://www.hondaofrussellville.com/?utm_source=ReachLocal&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=SEMHondaofRussellvilleMotorcycleATV&scid=3522103&cid=2517976&tc=180521173229869&rl_key=052b3ce709ceea1007807afd1990011c&kw=28195646&pub_cr_id=261045579289&dynamic_proxy=1&primary_serv=www.hondaofrussellville.com&device=c&network=g&rl_track_landing_pages=1&rl_retarget=1 Anyone thinking of a new Wing and buying thru a 5 star like Honda of Russelville should keep something in mind,,, because of Honda's floor planning and franchise agreements, even the largest dealerships are NOT allowed to ship - fact is,, if you want to buy thru a place like the Russelville dealership you will HAVE to show up at the store - in person!! Kind of weird too but that is the way it works..

Seriously and straight from the hip,,, I honestly think you guys are onto something and that something is actually something that has been mentioned on more than one occasion.. I think where Mom Yam may have messed up is in naming this new bike a "Venture".. Like you say,, it is definitely not a Venture.. In that the design came straight from the ranks of the Strat, Roadliner crowd - perhaps it should have been named the Stratotourer or something... The disconnect between what a Yamaha Venture has been since creation and the huge difference between then and now is just to confusing. IMHO (and YES,, this is JUST my opinion) I theorize that Mom Yam only used the Venture name as a lure to try and bring past Venture Riders/Owners into the V-Twin cloud and sort of get as much bang for her buck as possible and I am sure (although I have not seen it happen personally yet) that is happening somewhere and that past 1st or 2nd Gen owners are trading in their V-4's but I still wonder of the whole change over may have gone a lot smoother had the bike just been named after the 113's the Star Riders who designed it were riding... Probably makes no sense to anyone else but it does to me...
