Talk about heart breaking news,,,,, can't stop crying for em,,,,,, Prayers Up for the families involved in such a horrendous loss of such precious little lives..... -
Not an actual phone call,, it was a text message from someone who obviously didnt appreciate the finer art form of opinion sharing .. Not that big of a deal,, I just learned why folks are careful about posting personal info on the net and made the necessary adjustments therein and also learned to hold some in the bag concerning sharing my opinions (not the first time,,, I spent a fair amount of time in the Principals Office in High School for EXACTLY what I am talking about ) On your balance bead thoughts,,, I was thinking you had a bead breaker that you could employ while the wheel/tire was still on the scoot?? If so,,, maybe break the bead and rotate the tire 180 and reseal it before you take it all back apart again to see if it helps.. This didnt help in my case with Tweeksis,,, she still shook at speeds over 80 and got worse when crossing into triple digits so I went back over everything with lead and solved it that way..... Out of curiousity,, the next time I swap out a tire (which will be VERY SOON,,, got an E4 on its way!! - the new this spring rear shinko is almost bald now!) I will strip the rim clean and check it for balance all by itself, use lead to balance the rim all by itself and then recheck with the new E4 on it to see if it stays in balance.. That will be a good science experiment and make a good YouTube vid (IMHO,,,, ,,, here we go again )

If these lop eared varmints knew what I know about how much stuff you have to unpack from the gorgeous 2nd Gen of yours they would understand why I wouldnt plan on reading about this trip until December ,,,, OUTSTANDING!!!!! -
Not so sure about the "expertise" side of that equation,, or the muscle side of it either for that matter Vaz but what da heck,,, between the two of us we got er done brother!!!! And you are more then welcome and THANK YOU and your scoot for not having the problems on a 5 laner in Chicago !!!! Cha,,, my opinion got me in a little trouble recently (someone didnt like what I had to say, found my phone number and let me know by text that "geezers have got their a$$'$ kicked for that") so I have had to make some adjustments to my personal info access and be a little more careful about how much of my opinion I share here,,,,, that said,,, please keep in mind that this is just that,,, an opinion... I just went thru exactly the same thing as your video shows on Tweeksis!!! I had good enough success with rear tire bead balancing that I decided to try them with the new Shink that I stuck on the front of her a couple months ago,,, beaded the new rear at the time too.. Front didnt work worth a hoot at speeds over 80. Ended up pulling the beads and going back to lead and balancing as shown in the video below. I know my opinion has gotten me in recent trouble but,, once again,, IMHO I think the dynamics involved in the beads being in a steer wheel that is allowed to move laterally plays havoc on the beads ability to balance.. Possibly due to the idea (another way of stating an opinion here) that the beads balance vertical imbalance better than horizontal imbalance .. I also know that my tire buddy that Vaz is talking about holds the opinion that beads are fine with sport bike speeds but I still think that higher speeds play a role in imbalance out of beads too.. I just mounted a new tire on the back of my R1 and stayed with lead and balancing also as shown in the vid below.. 165 = smooth as silk with an ounce and 3/4 of stick on's in the correct spot.. It is also my opinion that when using beads you need to be really careful about getting moisture of any kind internally of the tire when mounting.. Over spray of tire bead mounting soap will instantly ruin the balance bead affect. I know Vaz was extra careful when dumping in the beads on his rear tire here at the house cause I watched him dump em in and THAT is mandatory IMHO when using beads. If I were you I would probably center stand the scoot, bust the tire loose from the rim while on the bike, hold the front brake and rotate the tire 180 degrees and then pop her back on the wheel and run er again to see if it starts the shake.. Take it easy though so you dont induce a tank slapper. I got a sneaking hunch that in the end you will want to redo the balance job though regardless cause (another IMHO here) I dont think balance beads really start working until speeds to the point of balance rotation for them anyway which does nothing for the 1st Gen 40 MPH "shimmy" that a couple of us have experienced and that you want no part of either.... Ok,, I'll shut up,,,, here's the vid,, hope it helps!!

Rear tires for 2018, time to spoon on #2, gonna try a Dual Compound Dunny..
cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
OUTSTANDING BEN!!!!!! and THANKS or jumpin in here brother!!! A big test for me will be to see just how well this new shoe handles that hot desert tarmac (you know the stuff,,, the kind that melts your tenner shoes when you step down on it and you go sliding across the tarmac and that likes to remove your rear tire and place it on the back of your saddlebags ) out west. -

Rock n roll Roller!! Personally,, I will be happier than a bug in a rug if this new thang just gets us there and back again without having to do the normal tire swap, or 2, while out CTFW on the west coast,,,,,,, THAT would be an absolute 1st for us and a huge plus IMHO!!! -

Howdy and a huge to both you and your new scoot Silv.. I dont know squat about the 2nd Gen's but I finally did just get to spend some time on one that belongs to a close friend (he fell asleep on o ur couch and happened to have left the keys in his scoot when he did so,,,,,,) and couldn't help but notice his bike had a leather cover over tank cap.. You would have to ask him (@VideoArizona ) where he found such a cool cover but I would not be surprised to hear that it was something that came from another friend of mine/member here,, @Acehighleather who works with leather.. Puc -
The rear Shink I spooned on Tweeksis a few weeks ago is all but history and it is definitely time for her 2nd new tire for the year. Having heard/read all the great reports about dual compounds I thought I would check prices before reordering another 77 dollar shink and found this: https://www.ebay.com/p/Dunlop-40BR-20-Elite-4-Cruiser-Touring-Rear-Tire-140-90B16/239151697?iid=222838982869&_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D50544%26meid%3Dcb39e46f6f8544958e8e21c9087c1875%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D312070208444%26itm%3D222838982869&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 of which Dunny claims: ""With the all-new Elite 4, you could cross the country six times before needing to replace your tires. ... ""which all made my "buy it now" finger twitch so much that it ended up buying one.. I suppose when June 15th rolls around (day after eta of the new Dunny) Tweeksis will be staring at those endless western skies thru 6 power lenses .. Down girl,, down,, down down,,,, calm down,,,,, we'll find out but cha gotta calm down!!!!!

Well I got tired of waiting and,,, ok,, a little concerned so I texted Vaz this morning.. Thru sleepy eye's (hadnt had his morning coffee yet and if there is one thing I know about Vaz = he HAS to have that morning java) He said to let everyone know all is fine with him and his gorgeous scoot. I wont tell his story for him that I KNOW he is gonna tell us when he gets home but I will tell ya that he mentioned something about having rolled over 4000 miles on this one!!! WAYYYYY TO GO VAZ!!!! Think I am gonna go search our club award reserve and see if there isnt something out there that honors those who travel such longgg distances on 2 wheels just to say HI to his friends - if not,, there oughta be:big-grin-emoticon:,,,, maybe a "ARE YOU NUTS?" award -
Will these spark plug caps work?
cowpuc replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Here is what I ended up with Cha: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-NGK-90-Degree-Elbow-10mm-12mm-Adaptable-Cap-LD05FP-8070/170478636377?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 IMHO they seem to be working just fine BUT,, that is strickly an opinion from a "wish I knew something about electricty" kind of wrench spinner... Right or wrong,,, all my 1st Gen's came to me with 5k ohm plug caps and the plugs in all mine have been the smaller "D" sized which, all of the D plugs I have used thru the years were 12mm in thread size so that is why I went with the above.. I have no idea what ohm the book specs our scoots out for,, I just know that the 5k's in my 1st Gens always seemed to do a good job,,,, electrically speaking of course. My current scoot does not have stock wires on it and I have no way of knowing how many times your wires have been "snipped" at tune up so no way to know if you will end up with enough wire to make the bend into these right angle caps.. Maybe a quick pic of each of your wires hanging beside the jugs and someone could give you a guess as to whether or not these right angles would work,,,,,,,, or,,, maybe better yet,,,, just hit up Partsnation or other Yam supplier and get the right ones = then you KNOW you are onto it!!!! -
AWESOME CHA!!!!!!!:clap2::clap2::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool: THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US THE RIDE ALONG!!
-
Ok,,, as you know,, I am sort of thick skulled sometimes,,, actually most of the time ,,,, @Marcarl ,, when you mentioned "donations" in your post (which,, once again,, IMHO,, was very well put!!) did you intend to link that post with this one that Jack posted a while back?? See how I snuck that in here @Condor
-
IMHO, definitely timeless words Carl and well put my brother! As good today as it was yesterday... My hat too goes off to our sites "My Mechanic" guru's out there in Cyberland = you are ALL appreciated!!

:sign yeah that: IMHO, Kimber builds a fine shooter.. Speakin of shootin, I just grabbed 500 rounds of 200 grain remanned flat nose ammo for my '11 off Ammoseek for .21 a round = good stuff! Those ol trench guns are fun to shooters

I actually knew that was gonna happen Fool!! He spent the week with us,,, hot and humid as all get out.. Being from Az, poor Vaz wasnt ready for the humidity,,, still had a LOT of fun IMHO.. About the time that the Ferry would have touched base in Cheese Headville, a cold front moved thru here and the humidity died right off.. Tip and I were down at my daughters the next morning and I remember telling her that, yep,,, Fool DEFINITELY was showing off the WWW for Vaz!!!!!!! -
Just finishing up that last left over Hamburger here David and thought I better give you shout brother!!! @videoarizona = you still out CTFW or are you snoozin next to your scoot in your garage??

And thanks for the forgiveness Gunny - it's appreciated my friend!! One of Tip and my very favorite all time rides is from Stewards Point on "1" out on the west coast of California to Geyserville via "Skaggs Springs Road".. Sort of like a bicycle trail for motorcycles with lots of awesome hairpins thru a natural Red Wood forest.. How bout yours? Wonder if you should start a whole new thread about this,,,, betcha there are THOUSANDS of really cool rides for us to discover by probing some of the minds of the masters here in the club and asking this!!!!!!!!!! -
,,,, GORGEOUS scoot Doug!!!! :ice_congrats-vi6886

Ya know Gunny,,,,, sometimes I am a little slow and thick skulled,,, ok,,,, sometimes its a lot more than sometimes that I am thick skulled and slow.. After reading what you wrote here I too gotta agree with ya, enough already. This is gonna be hard for me cause I am truly a :stickpoke:and a at heart and absolutely LOVE the debate (unlike most of you lop eared varmints who did great in College Math AND in Debate,,,, I only excelled in Debate class but I REALLY did well there,,, ,, probably cause I always wayyy over did it - like in this case:scratchchin:) but I promise that I am going to back off on my 3rd Gen jabs.. I am truly sorry for the grief my over zealousness has caused you and the other new members. Thank you for once again taking the time to point out the issue Gunny,, I only wish I could of caught on to it before this last with American that appears to have ended with his pulling up his tent stakes from VR.. For that I make a club wide apology as the last thing I need to be doing is chasing away new members = sorry about that gang.. In an asserted effort to change courses here,,, I am going try something.. American made the comment that I never made reference to anything I liked about the SVTC,,, seriously,,, I can see that happening.. I think I will end this apology with this FACT: I LOVE the looks/style and aggressiveness of the front end of the new Venture!!!!!!!!!!
