CaptN, while I appreciate your thankful spirit PLEASE dont feel to overwhelmed, humbled or impressed by my generousity.. I gotta tell you that my spirit of generousity is born out of dealing with things similar to your experience with the bike - things like being saved by two Texas hero's when my scoot's stator took dump wayyy down in the Lone Star State when Tip (wife), Tweeks (our bike) and I were taking the long way around CTFW to my daughters graduation in Cali (gonna include a little "thank you" song my daughter and I sang for those guys = by the way,, both of them were members here who I had never met) or being rescued out in the middle of the heat of the desert and being hauled into Ventura California to have a flat tire fixed or having a Harley rider stop - tell his lady to sit and chat with my little boy while he hauled me on the back of his bike to fetch gasoline or neighbors showing up with tool belts on to help rebuild a roof on our home after a wood stove fire while the insurance company was dragging their feet trying to figure a way out of paying a claim and on and on.. Really brother,, it's more a matter of living by the code IMHO,, something thats been going on for a longggg time around here at VR.. Back to your bike.. I am taking it here that the addy I copy/pasted is where you want the items sent to? I know I get in trouble sometimes for this and I am also at times sort of hard to follow but I wanna share a little more of my opinion (thanks again for fighting for my right to do that - I take advantage of your keeping your oath to do so A LOT ).. Please dont read anything into this,, like I doubt that the ignition problems may totally be the TCI/Coils = gonna send them regardless and if they turn into nothing more than tools for testing =we're good to go,,, but I have experienced what you are describing many times and 90% of the time it ended up being stator/regulator issues.. For some reason, my 1st Gens always run like you are describing when either the stator or the regulator is failing or weak.. If you watch the volt meter on a running 1st Gen (this is where my opinion comes into play), let it idle, turn on a blinker, pull the front brake lever so your adding amp load and then bounce your throttle you should see the needle snap right up to 14 volts.. Hesitation in that needle is a very good indicator that either you got a bad connection on the ignition wire to the battery or its stator/reg related.. Running wise = if this is happening,, even with a good battery in tow so you can turn the bike off and restart it = it can/will/may still run just like an old points ignition Chevy with the plugs wires out of firing order = cha pow,, vroom,, pow pow .. Also,,, please beware that it is possible that the bike you are working on still has the original stator and never got the updated oil bath - if this is the case - even if it tests fine - you will want to update it cause unbathed - those stators fried up like KFC Chicken only didnt smell as good.. I just went thru this whole thing,, again,, and thought it was another Stator,,, started working on it,, thought it best to not ASSuMe and BINGO - glad I didnt cause it turned out to be the regulator = funny guy that Murphy is when he is around lectricty (this case varifiable with videoarizona = he was there!!). Another thing on that 84. The early ones came with a plastic water pump impellar (my 84 did) that liked to desolve in antifreeze. The update was an aluminum one.. If I recall, there is suppose to be a punch mark above the forward bevel gear on one of the molding circles if this was updated - perhaps someone like bongobobny or Prairiehammer would know if my thoughts on this are accurate? If this is the case and your scoot does not have the punch mark, I will see if I can come up with an xtra waterpump for yours too.. You may end up needing to redo the seals in it if I send you one because this stuff has been sitting but hey,, still a LOT cheaper than buying all new IMHO.. You speaking about Fuses and Fuse boxes reminds me,,, GLAD TO HEAR YOUR TAKING ACTION NOW:thumbsup: = those OEM fuse boxes were nothing but a headache IMHO.. One of those Texas hero's (a varmint known here as " @Squidly ") who rescued us down in Texas gave me Fuse Panel to redo the wiring terminal's that I had revamped into stand alone slide in fuses.. Worked AWESOME IMHO.. I have an xtra one of those here now that has been just waiting for me to pay it forward (thanks again Squid) and wowzy,, you two varmints being Military fellers and with what you are doing in honor of your brother/friend = I DEFINITELY wanna send that along!! You may find that the keyed locks on your clamshells are sticky.. Word to the wise,, dont fight em, pull em off - open em up and relube em - done right the things will work like new for many many miles. Get one of those clamp on cable lubers and while ya got er down for carb work, take the time to lube ALL the cables = I use synthetic bike chain lube - one time with that stuff and WOWZY no more broken cables. Smack the calipers on the sides with a rubber mallet, pull em off, pull the pads on em, one piston at a time run them out to 1/8th inch past the width of a new pad fiber (NOT THE FULL WIDTH INCLUDING THE BACKING PLATE STEEL, YOU DONT WANNA POP THE PISTON OUT = just the pad part) and clean spotless the piston by wrapping a clean slice of rag around the piston - pinch it between your finger/thumb so it stays tight on the piston and then spray the rag wet with brake cleaner - now rotate back and forth on the piston to "polish" it.. Get it clean,, squeeze it in and push it back out with the brake lever and check for smudge marks - continue till no more marks and do em all so brake pistons work freely... Wow this getting long... Sorry... ,, something for everyone to a little,, guess what I found out while fooling with the TCI I am sending you? The OEM plug wires on those bikes were indeed = WIRE WIRES!!! Yep,, wire core wires OEM on a bike that was a fully loaded Royale with ALL the fixens including stock/original CB, intercom, radio-cassette, cruise and CLASS. It seems like there was a discussion in a thread that @Chaharly started about this and now we know (well,, at least I do) that indeed, those bikes originally came with 5k Ohm caps and wire wires.. Puc Singing proof of my paying it forward statement Captn!!

I hear ya Bill,, only problem there is,, at least around here, its 40 to 50% $$ more to shop retail for the same tire if your talking cash and carry (some shops will give you a discount if you pay em to mount/balance - I prefer to do all my own work).. I have ordered many many tires, both street and dirt, online and seriously,, this is the very first one I have had an issue with.. I have ordered and had sent to my son-in-laws out in California at least 20 tires (doing some quick math in my brain) from the company I am dealing with on this Dunny and never had a bad experience,,, till possibly now.. I always order thru Ebay and pay with Pay Pal cause I know that they have their own VERY strict policies about returning and getting the money back if something like this happens.. I once sold and item to a person (used bike part) that was defective and I did not know it was. Instead of contacting me, the person filed in the reselution section on Paypal and Paypal locked up my account until it was resolved - they take this stuff seriously.. Knowing that,, I was/am trying to be decent about it all and dealing with the seller first but truthfully,,, in the end I have no doubt that the refund will take place. My VERY biggest concern with it all is the lingering question of the inconvienience had this of taken place while Tip and I were CTFW across the country when the real business face would have had a chance to reveal itself in the form of them even thinking of saying something like "it may take 6 weeks to get you a tire" right after I had explained to them that we were planning a trip with departure way sooner than that... Definitely revealing... I will say this,,, the other company that I reordered the same tire thru was indeed The Motorcycle Superstore who I had never ordered thru before.. I found them on Ebay, same price as the other company, got here in 2 days and that E4 appears to be perfect (still not mounted = got about 1/8" more of time to go on the Shinko I mounted before I headed to Gimby for the Ontario Rally (went playing with the Canuckians).

A buffing wheel and some polishing compound on those aluminum covers behind the passenger pegs will really make em zingo too .... Personally though,,, I still prefer the left over salt from the Bonneville Salt Flat/Georgia Red Clay/smeared bug/sticker approach Speaking of making em pop,,, I was out diggin for parts for a buddy the other night and noticed a still in the OEM package little "1300" sticker that goes somewhere on one of the MK2's.. Thinkin it was like 1/4" wide by 1" long,,,,,, maybe sets into a recess on a side cover somewhere??? Anyway,,, if any of you lop eared varmints are looking for such a thing for a restore,,, let me know and I will dig it out and mail it to ya! I would use it but I still ride the 1200cc's cause they are faster

I am with PatMac, Now thats what I am talking about too!!! Good on ya Rod:clap2: Freebird , is there any kind of a "Brotherhood Of The Wrench" or "He Made It Run" award in our clubs trophy cabinet? Or would this fall under the Exceptional Member Award if a person wanted to give someone like Rod a pat on the back for there ingenuity and action? If anyone else is wondering what I am talking about, look up on line above and find the "Awards" button, it's between the VR Chat button and Membership button. Click on Awards and the list of awards will appear and as will the icons for nominating a person for an award. That is also where the clubs Military Honors are kept but as far as I know, those have to be requested by the person receiving them.. Just an FYI cause my fingers needed a work out:missingtooth:

It seems like forever now that my friends, neighbors, cousins, uncles and even people that dont know me from Adam who have watched my numerous UTube vids on swapping tires while out on the coast of California have told me over and over again that I should try one of those fancy schmancy big dollar dual compound tires made by Dunlop for my hot tarmac, cross country adventures.. I recently read where Dunlop themselves claimed x6 shore to shore across America was normal so,,, I caved. Noticing that the Shinko I spooned on earlier this year was getting low on tread,,, I thought, what da heck what da hay,,, no better time than the present so I ordered a brand new rear Dunlop E4 for Tweeksis's ol back side.. I ordered from a company who I have bought MANY tires from and who ALWAYS got the tires to me - made no difference if it was here in Michigan or out on the west coast = within 2 days!! GOOD OUTFIT IMHO... I was shocked to have the Dunny take 9 days to get here,,, then I was shocked when I noticed this strange "xxxxxxxxxx" pattern right across a bead area = caused me pause.. I called the company and talked to a sales guy and explained what I was seeing and a concern for possible bead leaking.. I agreed to go ahead and mount the tire and see what would happen if I did under the promise they would stand behind it if it leaked... The next day I found something that was even more alarming,, I noticed that the new E4 had a "droop" in its side tread that lined up perfectly with the "xxxxxxxx"s. Now I am no canyon carver like many in our club but I/we do enjoy occasionally wickin er up in the twisties so the droop really concerned me because of its out of round factor. I decided against even mounting the tire and called the company who sold it to me back to request a new tire be shipped and a return label be sent for the defector.. This time, to my surprise, the sales guy was more reluctant to comply. He wanted pictures (of course) of what I was talking about, sent them to him (see pics below). Next communication was one of absolutely damaged goods and they would replace it and they would send a return label - .. Problems showed up right after I shipped the tire.. My next message was: Please hold shipping, it appears the damage was caused by the shipping company and we will have to deal with them before refunding/reshipping.. My message to them was: to late, tires on the way,, glad you agreed tire was damaged, sorry your shipper messed up if that is what caused the problems, please do not send another tire, send refund full amount:big-grin-emoticon: I ordered and have already received another new E4 from another company = PERFECT tire as far as I can tell.. It will be interesting to see how the initial company handles the refund at this point. They did mention that if the tire has to go back to Dunlop for an evaluation that it could take up to 6 weeks ... At this time I will not post the companies name because I want to give them a fair chance to respond but if it gets ,,, I will definitely pass the info on here FYI... Headed toward the west coast one of these days on a new E4 with of making the complete trip without swapping on a new tire on the road (its a bike tire science experiment gone crazy:255:) regardless of the outcome of the original sellers ,,,,, Watch those tires ya bunch of lop eared varmints,,,,,, even the new, big $$ ones

Short story CaptN.. I missed the draft for Nam by a couple year's (I am 63) and by the time it came around for me to join and go fly an F4 Phantom (a dream from longggg ago) over there it was all over so I remained a civilian.. I did lose numerous older friends in that God awful mess though and still hold an extremely high regard for all of you men/women who served in Southeast Asia. Fast forward to 1987, married with children who were desperately showing signs of needing biker bonding time with their dad, I picked up a Blonde 84 Venture Royale in pieces out of an estate sale with 28k miles on it for 600 bucks.. I was spinning wrenches on scoots at the time and new exactly what I was looking for in a bike to put a ton of cross country miles on with my kids, one at a time in tow, in an affordable manner.. The kids named our Blonde beauty "Big Girl" shortened to B.G. shortened to "Beeg". Beeg came with no second gear and a bad stator = 500 bucks was a fair price IMHO. A close friend owned the local Yam shop and other than agreeing with/reassuring me that the missing 2nd gear had zero effect on drive train longevity and simply suggested me taking along a short piece of fuel line to blow pressure into the fuel tank thru the tank vent if one of my 4 kids and I lost forward motion if the fuel pump failed was reassuring that I was on the right track for a very inexpensive way to see the country with the kids and get the bonding done.. IT WORKED AMAZINGLY WELL!! A few short years later, with just under 285k miles on her, Beeg brought my oldest daughter and I home from a west coast trip with a very noisy crank bearing(s) (could have been a balance shaft - never opened her up to check) and as we crept down our road after 5 weeks of touring, another Venture (an 83) appeared in a neighbors front yard with a for sale sign on it. Beeg's side Blonde side covers were placed on that Maroon 83 and have adorned the 4 other 83's that followed. Those cracked and stickered covered side covers from Beeg now have well over 1 million well earned miles on them that myself and my family and our Ventures accumulated.. I removed lots of parts and pieces off Beeg thru the years, some I used - some I gave away.. Many years ago I stuck a bunch of parts in a box and shelved them and your call to duty rang deep with me and set me on a course to find that box so my family and I could join you in getting your/our friend and your/our brothers bike back to CTFW (did you know?? that phrase = CTFW which stand for Chasing The Front Wheel was actually "coined" by another brother of ours who served in Nam too - yep,, it's true,,, that was "Yammer Dan" = my friend mentioned in my signature area below!!)... Spent some time doing some digging this evening and LOOK what I found!!!!!!! I have no way of knowing for absolute sure that this TCI is still good but I can honestly think of no reason why it should not be.. It has been stored high and dry for many years and other than a crankshaft that rattled like those steel balls in the bottom of a can of paint,, Beeg ran PERFECT inspite of her high mileage!! Those wires on the Coils are OEM as are the Caps.. I took some pics and am including them here to show you that indeed,,, this is an actual TCI for an 84 but I also snapped some close ups for the lop eared gear head varmints here who were recently talking about the specs for the caps on the MK1's.. As I mentioned in another thread,, all my MK1's came stock with 5k ohm caps if my memory served me correctly,,, well looky looky,,, my memory aint completely gone !! I did have to seperate the TCI from the coil rack to see its label. I did so without using a hand impact to give the TCI all the help I could to being good when it gets to you.. I simply used my "T" phillips - worked perfect.. I reinstalled the TCI after taking the pics.. I would be honored to ship the whole rack, TCI, coils, wires and advance control modual your way free of charge @Captaineasy520 if you still need them? Just give the word and I will stick the whole thing in a box and, using the following addy - send them out: Joseph Davis 9160 S. Avra Tucson AZ 85736 Is this correct? I wish I had a set of Progressives to send you as I would include those too.. I thought I had an extra set but havent located them - if I do find them I will let you know here so your/our fellow club members cease looking.. Personally CaptN,, I think when you open up your deceased brothers bike, you will be shocked at the "ink pen" springs Mom Yam chose to use in those forks (ink pen springs is a phrase that I coined - dont blame Yammer for that one ).. I found early on that those springs that sack out just from sitting are responsible for most blown seals IMHO.. I would suggest that you try installing Progressives with 1" of preload behind them so the fork sag comes back to reasonable. Pump the fish oil that Mom Yam used in the forks out and reup with 12.5 wieght Belray or equivalent (I will look,, maybe I also have Fork Oil I can toss in). Polish/clean the tubes with forks fully extended, clean the seals real well with either the edge of some 35mm film negative or pick up a Motion Pro seal cleaner = you slip either between the seal and the tube and wipe the seal edges clean). Add no air and see if the seals still leak BEFORE you pull the front end down - ya never know,, ya may get lucky.. Look over your project now real closely and see if there is anything,, ANYTHING else that you can see that you may need.. If so, please let me know here before I ship this TCI rack out (may as well take advantage of our Postal Service and get as much bang for the buck as possible:happy34:)... Sorry about the long post but I really want you to know from the horses mouth how much I would LOVE to know that ol Beeg is out there helping someone and it would be a DOUBLE plus if that someone was a friends fallen buddy's bike.. Let's get er done! Puc Puc

CaptN, do us/you a favor and take a peek at the intake manifold on the #2 jug on your scoot. This would be the front cylinder on the left side of the bike - left side when sitting on the bike. Locate the nipple on the manifold where you would hook the vac line up to if you were syncing the carbs.. The 83's have plugs covering all 4 of those nipples but the 84's have a vac line that goes up to a vacuum control module on that nipple. Does yours for sure have the vac line attached so it is in fact an 84? Also, does anyone know if there is a way of telling the difference between the 84 and 83 TCI by looking at the unit itself?? All of my Ventures except my first one have been 83's and I think I may still have the TCI/coil rack left over from my 84 in a parts tub - was wondering if there is anyway to verify by a visual? @Flyinfool , bongobobny , Freebird , Prairiehammer ,,, need some GURU

Best wishes for My sweetheart

Roller is your dealer doing demo's on the new Wing??? Our local dealership has walk in demo's on the TC but nothing on the new Wing. Maybe you need to visit us and we need to visit you (I have ridden the new TC but REALLY want to ride one of the new Wings too)...

Comparitively speaking,, I have spent some time on the Suzy 109 and found it to be not that far removed from the 1250cc V-Rod or even a the little motored (74 inch/1200cc) Gen 1 V-Max in performance. I have also ridden the 113 inch TC a few times and would suggest that if you really want to experience/compare the larger cubed TC/Eluder engines performance levels with those smaller scoots listed above (M-109 included) that you double check and make sure your in the "Sport Mode" when you test drive it.. I found "Tour Mode" to be exactly what VentureFar mentions here but understand that Sport Mode = one fire breathing, wheelie poppin machine in those lower gears.. It will be interesting to hear/read your take in Sport Mode in comparison to the 109 that you are familiar with K if you do so. I have no clue how you swap over from Tour to Sport but I believe its just a push of a button = might not be a bad idea to slip over to the 3rd Gen section and ask one of the new owners how to do that so you know the in's and out's before you take off on that baby = wish I would have!!

Now THERE is one awesome riding team = right down on the frame/floorboards in the twisties of The Dragon and even the passenger is as relaxed as she would be sitting home in a chair watchin a movie =

Neil is a spoiled rotten lop eared varmint that Mom always did liked best BUT he still writes the most fantastic, accurate and true motorcycle/motorcycle accessory reports out there = 2nd to none IMHO - ANOTHER AWESOME PIECE OF WORK MY BROTHER!!! NEW PIRELLI'S = You lucky lop eared Ironbuttin Cross Country touring varmint @VentureFar ,,,,,, couldn't have happened to a more deserving chap IMHO = Tip says HI NEIL and sends a huge congratulatory :bighug:your way, Tweeks is asking why she dont get treated so special (try explaining to your motorcycle that we dont get to control who lives down the street from us) and I am totally proud of you,,, ,,,, YES,,, but still very very proud of that far riding brother of mine!!!! Keep up the good work Neil!!!! -
Yep,,, our kind of lop eared varmint eh Casey,,,,, suckin every drop out of the goodness of life anyway he/she can

,,, come on Bongo,,, you know that wasnt me cause you KNOW I take much better care of my can of WD40 than leaving it resting between the beads of my spare tire!!! We were close to Canuckian Land a few days ago though,,,, up at Sault St. Marie for a jaunt

Prayers Up for you and your family as you continue in recovery from the fire and from the heart issues Captn'!! Sorry to hear about the double wammy!! THANK YOU for your service and effort in maintaining our very special free way of life brother ,,, just know your efforts havent fallin on deaf ears or hardened hearts = YOU are appreciated!! About those electrical parts needs,,,, perhaps a detailed list of exactly what you are looking for would help.. You just never know around this joint, I have heard of folks even donating parts just to help a friend get his bike back in service - I know,,, sounds crazy but it does happen on occasion. Besides,, how we spose to know what your looking for if ya dont tell us? Concerning the assistance you have found thru the video's.. Due to recent personal developments I have trimmed back some on sharing my untrained opinions out there in cyber world BUT,,, if you find need of something you think I may be able to help with in the way of advice,, I would be more than happy to produce and post up something for you if it is within my range of expertise.. Probably an even much better way to gain real professional advice though would be to just post the questions here first as I know there are some guru's still hanging out here.. Also,, dont forget about VR Facebook.. I am not a Facebooker but I do know that there are numerous VR guru's that hang out there too!! WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOU GOT ER GOING AGAIN AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE DAY OF READING THAT!!! Oh yea,,,, 's please!!!! Puc
