Air Mix Screw Setting
cowpuc replied to .45Cole's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
.45, at exactly 14:42 in this little video the idle adjustment screw is right above my index finger. I was getting ready to reach in and turn it but the motor was hot and I had to default to a screw driver to do so (not shown in vid). The screw is a knob with a phillips screwdriver head in the center of it and is located low/under and between the drain hoses on the left side of your bike (left as when you are sitting on the bike,,,,,,,,,,,,,, same side as the shift lever). For air/screw setting,,,, aside from having/using an actual exhaust sniffer - using the tool I am showing you in the ebay link is probably one of the most accurate ways in my untrained opinion. It gives you a window into the combustion chamber so you can adjust per flame color (blue burn being best). Other than that, it's a matter of ear and finding the lean setting that creates the fastest idle = delicate job. Heres the ebay link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gunson-COLORTUNE-Carburetor-Adjustment-Tool-12mm-SHIPS-FROM-USA/232813706940?epid=13020431292&hash=item3634c73ebc:g:J~IAAOSwHNxaL~W2 and tthe vid: -
OUTSTANDING YOOP!!!!!!!!!:clap2::dancefool::dancefool: Now thats what I call gettin er done brother!!!! Sounds like your doing awesome on that rear tire IMHO. Dont know about you or others but it always seemed like the last 1/2 of my rear tires like to evaporate quicker then and the 1st half (especially if the roads ahead involve hot desert tarmac). Sounds like you are well versed in already doing so, but it may not be a bad idea to keep an eye on er. It will be interesting to see what you come up with for total miles out of it. How's the MPG's? F.I. and running high torque w/ overdrive - my guess is +40? Thanks for the pic and the ride along = both greatly appreciated and enjoyed!!!

Is this not possible on a 2nd Gen because of the exhaust system?? @videoarizona - I should have paid more attention to this when you were here!!!

Not sure on how the FJR unit transfer Faithful... I suppose as long as its showing proper response to throttle input (touch the throttle and volt meter needle should pop right up there,,, no creepish movement stuff... Also,, turn on a blinker at idle and pull the front brake in to activate the brake light = watch the meter and rev it a little,,, that meter should bounce right to life with the crack of the throttle. My guess is that if its sluggish,,, your issue may be related to a failing Regulator or,,, possibly a weak stator... Any idea if your scoot has the updated oil splash/crank bolt with orvice?

:sign yeah that: I would also pull the plugs if it hasnt been done in a while and drop in a set of stock spec, nothing fancy NGK's and gap em at 32 thou so they got room to grow.. Being the smaller plugs, I have always found them to be more sensitive to blackening from a little over chocking which a good habit of getting it off choke at start-up may help prolong life of the plugs.. On another note,,, I just went this with Tweeksis,,,,, idle and just off idle running eratic = missing under a low R load... Any chance your volt meter may be acting slightly sluggish and not as responsive to throttle (jumping right up to 14 volts at 1500/2 grand?? That stammering and slight bucking and sluggishness at low R's cleared right up when I replaced the Regulator... At first I thought I was seeing/feeling a weak stator but, at least at the time,, it appears that it was all in the Regulator... Just something to check if nothing else!!! Puc

My 1st Gens have all responded well to and did great on 15/40 cheap Dino here in the ambients of the Mid-West but when it comes to the 100 degree + tempts of the desert regions with its AWESOME no bug riding and AWESOME endless beauty = all of mine have LOVED stirring the 20/50 and had no problem turning it to a water like fluidity by the time 3 or 4k miles were gone and that new Shinko on the back end had turned to black dust accumulated on the saddlebags and was almost ready for change too:big-grin-emoticon:...

:sign yeah that::sign yeah that: I still think though that the answer to the whole situation = all countries wanting to participate in the global market place = NO tariffs by anyone and all subsidies in trade agreements should be done away with along with a closing of the door on stealing trade/design patents .. Without that happening and thereby leveling the playing field, is it really "free trade" or a "free market"?? Let the market place figure out by the purchasing that is done by the consumer decide who will and who won't survive and prosper but do so in an evironment where copy cat thieves and sell out artists who stuff their pockets with money received as kick backs on trade agreements are punished severely. You ever watch "Shark Tank" Jeff? Back when that show first started and it was all the rage in the U.S., Tip and I were watching and I made the comment of "this is ridiculous" to which, of course she said "what?".. I told her that what America was coming all undone about (in a good + way,,, ratings for the show were thru the roof) was, IMHO,, something that was/is suppose to be a typical everyday happening in communities all across the U.S. = inventor's inventing and investors investing and it was disheartening to think that average everyday folks had forgotten that that is/was suppose to be an everyday happening.. The factor shown by the listening/watching audience of that show in a strange way (at least in my strange way of thinking) was telling to me of just how far away from the truly American way of life we have somehow drifted.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOUCHHHHHHHHHH READY,,,,,,, WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, just reading this made my eyes water brother!!!!!!!!!! OUCH!!! A while back I went in and had one of my hands repaired as my fingers had closed up and locked down (Dupuytrens) and left it (my right hand) totally unusable. There wasnt enough skin left in the palm of my hand for suturing so the surgeons decided that I would have to do "open wound" healing. This amounted to applying a special bandage material stuff over the 1" wide open wounds (they were wayyyy cool,, when changing the bandages daily - I/we could see all the moving parts in there - I have pictures somewhere but they may be to graphic for VR) and the doctors told me that skin would reform right over those totally open area's = of course - I was skeptical... IT WORKED AMAZINGLY WELL!!!! Keeping the area clean was totally necessary and doing so was as simple as gritting my teeth and sticking my open wound hand under running water x2 a day.. Beyond that, no antiseptic (besides the covering/bandages) was applied... Something to consider.... OUCH

NOW WE ARE COOKIN:happy65:!!!!!!! GREAT REPORT SILVER = thanks for the ride along!!!! -
:sign yeah that: I know I'm a simpleton but I still think the ultimate answer to a lot of the struggles associated with trying to get the free enterprise system to work when the vast majority of the players have never really accepted that particular system of economics in its entirety is as easy as all parties just dropping tariff's across the board = all tariff's are now ended and illegal FOR EVERYONE, both ways, wanting to participate in trade with the "free world" is what I am trying to say. IMHO, along with this should be (and would be if I were negotiating this "new" trade world stuff) all U.S. subsidies in trade agreements would end, no more subsidies, the free world needs to deal from a level playing field for everyone involved with transparency and fairness being the new paradigms for world trade. As far as HD moving operations off shore,,, if they do so with the intent of selling the bikes produced off shore back in the States (they have been producing off shore for sales off shore for a while now), IMHO,, that would be an act of cashing in their chips and,, again,, IMHO - even the notion of such definitely wreaks of a scapegoat cookin - they (HD) are smarter than that... I think there is more to the whole story in a "Political" way...

@Captaineasy520 , your parts are in the mail and you should see them Wednesday unless Murph reads this and decides to play with the mail system.. USPS tracking # is 9505 5121 2688 8176 1950 14 if you have need to follow it. Absolutely all the VERY best of hopes/wishes your way in the effort to get that bike back on its feet brother!! Please keep this thread updated if/when you have time to tinker with it and dont be afraid to post up kibbles and bits needs as you do!! Where to put those lights?
cowpuc replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'd scrap the little light idea and hop onto something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Motorcycle-Driving-Passing-Bullet-LED-Turn-Signal-Spot-Fog-Lights-Bar-TOP/172542084184?hash=item282c4f4458:g:TssAAOSw9gRaAXBg only higher end,,, gotta be something along the line of a 4" day maker setup.. Tweeksis just dumped her RLU so I jumpered er down and am now running a fan cooled LED 18/36 watt setup for kicks.. I have another RLU to drop in er but wanted to play with some LED bulbs I got laying around and gotta say,,, really impressive.. One of HD riding buddies down the road uses some awesome LED's in his semi and they are the same shape as the MK1 headlight and was thinking of heading that route cause WOWZY does his Semi light up the highway!! Bummer cause I just found out that even though it appears the lights are the same,, the stuff he is running is wayyy to deep... I know there is similar stuff available in 4 inch spots David and it don't seem like it would take much to alter a cheap light bar to accept the real deal high end buckets... Where there is a will = there is a way and I gotta hunch that running those spots up higher like a traditional spot setup would REALLY give the max advantage for lighting up the road and seein those lop eared varmints getting ready to pounce!! Puc Sorry about the Vaz but @Flyinfool - did you ever have a second to iron out the RLU jumper schematic so the white light doesnt become the High Beam indicator?? I think I read you were maybe,,, possibly gonna take some time away from your full time job in the penalty box while on double probation and take a peek at that,,, might be wrong but I gotta pretty good memory... THANKS if you do Jeff! Back to Vaz and regular scheduled -
Towing MC Advice Pros Cons On enclosed and open trailers?
cowpuc replied to dogman's topic in Trailer Talk
Hi Dogman,,, wassup brother?? My vote goes with the covered.. Doesn't have to be huge - like you said, big enough to get the scoot in with some xtra's packed around it.. I think the convienience of having a rolling "garage" far outweighs the hassle of storage.. Not only that, but you could also use the covered trailer for bike storage when back at that gorgeous home of yours in Canuckian Land.. Plus, when you and Bernie come to Michigan to explore our west coast, you will have a LOT more space for that precious wife of yours to fill with goodies to take home and you can follow her on the bike,,, WIN-WIN!! The only down side I can think of with the covered vs open is going to be if you happen to bump into one of those nosey border crossing sniffin dogs who always gotta see inside of stuff.. With an open trailer they can just put their paws on the trailer fender and look things over but brother,, you get sideways of one who sniffs left over Hot Dogs from a Puc's Meet Greet n Eat Meat inside of packed covered trailer and it could be an all day adventure just getting back home from Michigan Your friend Puc P.S. = hi Bernie!! How's your sister? Hope all is well!! -
If you jumpered over the starter solenoid on the large cable/wire that comes directly from the positive post of the battery, basically eliminating the solenoid from the circuit completely, and the starter did not engage and attempt to roll the engine over then, IMHO, you either have a bad/low battery, a bad connection in the circuit or a faulty starter. If the starter makes a clunk noise when you jumper like that and no engine rolling over, it is possible you have a locked engine = if this is were to happen and I were working on it I would put a wrench on the rotor bolt on the end of the crank (stator side) and see if I could roll it over by hand..
