Thanks Randy,,, that is very good but I still cant get beyond my life long singin hero,,,,,,,,,,,, "ridin along on a bike they called Tweeksis",,,,,,, "now they rode the Tweeksis from Boston to Boseman,, for not to much money and wayyy to much ride,,, but those were the days when a bike they called Tweeksis,, could jump to the moon and flyyy cross the sky"..... I can listen to Willie hours and hours and hours (and have for years) and never tire of em....

Ahhh haaa,, but lets not forget that Tweeksis was fully loaded (minus the tent and Tippy) and ready to head to Ohio so I dont think the weight difference was that much - we should have ran em around the corner to the weight scales at the Recycle joint = ,,,,, jump back on it,, head to Michigan for another week of fun,,, this I time I PROMISE I will have some pie for you PLUS we can settle this Mano to Mano, Venture to Venture = IT'S GRUDGE MATCH TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool: WHAT A BLAST WE HAD!!! MISS YOU VAZ but THANK YOU for spending time with us!!! Love ya brother,, and LOVE that precious 2nd Gen of yours too - even if it never will catch Tweeksis

:scared:VERY WELL DONE LEWIS = YOU DA MAN BROTHER!!!!!:dancefool:

Very well done and THANK YOU David!!! I am actually looking for one that was in your phone that you were showing me of places you had been... It was in there somewhere with the shots of your boat and various rides you had taken and stuff.. It was a lone picture that I think you may have snitched off the site here of Tweeks and I at our Bike Time = no idea of who took it.. I was talking recently with one of our members on YouTube about why I need to have the lowers on my 1st Gens removed and mentioned that picture as an example of what I was referring to (I think it was @Chaharly I was talking to..).. He mentioned he would love to see that pic for comparisons... If you see it and wouldnt mind,,, please post it brother.. Thanks Vaz!!!

THAT is AWESOME @jnc19610 = what an amazing accomplishment even though you didnt get to complete the entire test on the 1st Gen!!! MAJOR congrats and a HUGE to you brother!!!! Concerning the tank/rust/non running issue... I am sure some have had good luck with gas filters handling rust from rusty tanks but I am not one of them.. IMHO (and that is all this is), I would pull the seat, remove the gas gauge access cover on top of the tank and take a pen light and shine in there and see what I see.. I would also either take a small dental mirror and check on the roof of the tank thru the access hole or I would reach my finger in there and do a test swipe. If I found rust I would pursue either a tank coating (I use "Red Kote" sealer (best of the best IMHO) as shown here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RED-KOTE-GAS-FUEL-TANK-SEALER-LINER-REDKOTE-QT/273326329321?epid=1137271078&hash=item3fa384cde9:g:~pkAAOSwEK9UDcTd or I would replace the tank with a good one.. One of the things you really dont want to have happen is to contaminate your carbs on one of these V-4's (again,, IMHO) and some of that rust can be small enough to slip thru the filter IMHO.. Some bikes are fairly simple to clean the carbs back up occasionally but these things can be both time consuming and costly.... Something to think about I reckon... Ride safe out there and HAVE FUN!!! Puc P.S. - if ya need a short video of the removal process of that cover under the seat,, feel free to give a shout:thumbsup:

So my guess is your not a Darwinian kind of person,,,,, that you lean more towards his brother Dogwinians theory of evolution?? :178::headache::cold::rasberry::rasberry:

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!!! Hey Jeff,, QUICK - BEFORE SHE GROWS UP RIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES = SMELL HER BREATH = OHHHH HOW I MISS SMELLING PUPPY BREATH Have you named her?? Lets start a "Name Fool's New Best Friend" thread... Or,, if that wont fly with ya brother,,, or even if it does,,, I think we should have a "Guess Fool's Puppies Breed" thread.... I am guessing Blue Tick and maybe some Jack Russel Terrier.... WOWZY WOW WOW WOW is she precious whatever breed she is or what ever ya name her brother!! :ice_congrats-vi6886to you, Ericka and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Hookshot (a spin off from Ernest's Jack Russel named "RimShot" = remember? = "who would throw away a perfectly good dog?" says Ernest = "Certainly not my good friend and soft hearted brother @Flyinfool" says Puc ..... My bid for her name (should you decide to open it up to a naming thread) = "Hookshot"

Thanks CaptN,,, hope all is ok with your health brother!!! I just ran that tracking number thru USPS and am seeing this message (see below). Might not be a bad idea to check with your post office when you have time or go to their web page and fill out the forms I am seeing there.... idle and sync issues?
cowpuc replied to luvmy40's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
IMHO,,, Go down and buy new plugs - NGK DPR8EA-9's, get 4 of them and gap them at 32 thou so they have room to expand to grow into high spec, look at your plug caps carefully for carbon tracking and ohm em out/do a resistance check, clip 1/4 inch off the end of each plug wire and screw it back on the caps if they are good. I am far from any form of an expert in the stuff but to my untrained eye looking at the blackened edge of those plugs,,, I am gonna guess that at some time or another they got a good over choking... Plugs are cheap,,, dont bother trying to clean em,,, opt for new IMHO... That may help a lot in your bikes stumbling. I am with MiCarl and Cha,, look that exhaust system over very carefully for holes and leakin gaskets - a tiny little bit of air leak can cause a lot of snortin!!!! -
Might be hot hot hot tarmack related Don... I chased a 404 off the back of Tweeks one time in just over 3000 miles by CTFW on that western stuff that will melt the soles of your tenner shoes and you really truly can fry an egg on.. Funny stuff and definitely different then what we experience here in the mid west IMHO...
-
Your more then welcome Yoop - you two EARNED that award IMHO.. Would love to see/hear more of your ride reporting brother!!!!! Be safe and have fun out there CTFW!!!!
-
I agree Sir Bongo... One of the issues why, IMHO,, is that when they ditch the mid ship foot pegs and make having your feet in that forward ride position an absolute instead of it being a choice, you loose the controlability that comes with having your legs/feet planted under you and also the option of stand up riding (which, IMHO, is one of the best ways to ride if your looking for real control). Another issue revolves around ground clearance for cornering and passenger seat height differences between them and the driver. Having the weight higher does reduce the flickability IMHO... Of course,,,, if your spoiled like Vaz and have both then I guess none of this matters but we also discovered that the 1st Gens are also wayyyyyyy faster which,,, at least in my case makes em that much more funner too

idle and sync issues?
cowpuc replied to luvmy40's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
As I mentioned before and maybe what got you looking at your volt gauge in the first place .40 , if your stator or regulator is acting up (and what you are describing is exactly what I had issues with on mine, those issues being irractic running/popping too = that being the reason that I suggested checking that in the first place) running strange at idle or under a load just off idle can be symtomatic.. All that said, I would definitely pull the side cover and ohm out the three white stator wires, do a voltage test at the battery to double check your dash meter.. In the end, unless the stator shows absolute signs of problems after testing and cleaning those terminal leads (suggest hard wiring those leads = that terminal has always given me fits) - I would give that regulator an evil eye close look,, replacing that puppy seems to have fixed my similar issues with popping/sluggish off idle/idle. On another note,,, I have found that a lot of decel popping/backfiring/little fartish type noises can and usually are attributabul to air leaks in my exhaust system.. It is amazing IMHO how one little hole or loose gasket can cause so much ruckus. Personally, because I am always running over stuff and/or even seem to find myself changing back tires so the gasket on my right side muffler never really seals correctly,,,,,,, my bikes always pop and snarl at people on decel and will even do the big bang thingy (fun if timed perfectly and done next to a person driving a car while on the cell phone ) as the fresh air thru the leak meets those hot gasses inside the system.. Maybe check your exhaust system for air leaks..... Lots and lots of things like pin holes in diaphrams, poor sync and poor tune up or even sticky brake calipers can cause poor MPG IMHO,,,, but I think you got a handle on all that.... And even on another note yet, Maybe its time to check out dropping your metering rods on the slides by shimming them down. IMHO, the down draft design of our carbs with the side mount slides (and the constant "bounce" of those slides cause we are talking CV carbs) is a little more susceptible to emulsion tube (or what ever ya wanna call that brass tube that the metering rod slides into) oblonging/wear. I have a theory that when this happens, as the metering rod is closing off the main jet to allow only pilot/idle jet circuit to operate - if its oblonged,,, raw gas can enter thru the wear area and BINGO = running fat,,,,, getting poor MPG can result.. I dropped those metering 65 thou worth of nylon shims on Tweeks instantly got my fuel economy back and also lost the heavy exhaust odor and dark coloring on her pipes.. Bottom line I reckon,,,,, keep playin with the thing,,, you'll get it!!!!! just dont let er wear ya down in the process.. -
So sad and happens wayyy to often IMHO Ready!! I think someone should start a thread where we all share in defining what "ride safe out there my friends" mean to them.. As bikers sharing the roads with folks who, many of them anyways, obviously really dont care what happens to their fellow man/woman - I think part of riding safe for us entails something along the line of not just riding our own vehicle but also developing the ability to predict/determine what the other driver(s) around us are going to do.. One thing for sure,, the open road is no place for practicing the basics of throttle, clutch, brake control - things that should be done out of habit way before he/she hits the road so the rider can use his brain power to "drive" those vehicles, like the one who hit the 50 year old in your story, for the people out there who are behind the wheel but absent in all other ways....... Sad

Sure... Gather up 4 little clear glass baby food jars or something similar and drain each carb off into its own jar. Let them set for a few hours and then look closely for sediment/water/debris gathered in each jar.. Worth a peek IMHO..

Anything appear in the mail yet @Captaineasy520 ?

the day that he left the keys in his bike when he fell asleep at our house This is our very first time of riding one of the 2nd Generation Yamaha Ventures (after spending 31 years riding 1st Gens and wearing out 5 of those - we are on our 6th one - one would think we would have upgraded by now LOL) - we owe a HUGE thank you to our dear friend David/VideoArizona for loaning us his bike while he rested at our home after traveling 2000 miles to come visit us!! We had always heard about the misgivings of this amazing motorcycle when attempting slow speed manuevers.. Given, my friend has this bike dialed in it's suspention but I/we found this machine very agile at slow speed riding. Keep in mind when viewing that this was our first attempt at this and, as always IMHO, things can be improved upon with just some good old fashion parking lot practice time... It did AWESOME IMHO Vaz!! NICE SCOOT!!
-
I'd put a set on Tweeksis too but being a 1st Gen, she'd have em straightened right back out after a couple times of wickin her up anyway so it would be a pointless manueuver IMHO :guitarist 2::guitarist 2:

After borrowing a friend of mines bike while he snoozed at my house from being tired after riding from Arizona to Michigan (he left the keys in it LOL) - Tippy (my wife) and set out to solve some of the worlds deepest mysteries/questions - like do the 2nd Gens "whine" louder than the 1st Gens - and actually did go home with some answers!! Yep,, IMHO,, the 2nd Gens are a little louder.. THANK YOU VIDEOARIZONA FOR LETTING US RIDE YOUR AWESOME SCOOT!! NICE SCOOT and what a special treat brother!! HI VAZ!!

Delinked Rear Brakes are weak
cowpuc replied to rrod1393's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Probably has nothing to do with nothing but one of the things I learned early on while out CTFW on a MotoCross track or even Hare Scrambling/racing Enduro's was this thing that I call Trail Braking = defined by yours truly as the act of steering the bike thru the berms, hair pins, between the trees and even setting up for jumps at speed by both body language input with the knees into the side of the tank and applying the rear brake.. For me,, 95% of the actual stopping of those bike when coming in to hot was performed with the front brake - and this was in some narliest, slipperiest, soft sandish of conditions that I knew of... Fast forward thru the years of using the same techniques on our 1st Gens and into this day when, as my bucket list bike I am playing with an early model MotoGP liter bike (it is one of the ones produced before they detuned and applied speed limiters to them of 186 mph) and I gotta say,, it is amazing how similar braking design tactics are/were sewn into these precision built race bikes riaght from the factory IMHO.. The reason I say this is because, at least IMHO, the rear brake on my R1 is about useless as an actual stopping brake but is an absolute essential tool for at speed cornering (enter that same old "trail braking" thingy that I utilized for many many years in a completely different environment. This is gonna sound nuts but, with the R1 (as with my Ventures, other street scoots and all my woods/track bikes) if you are ripping a buck 50 and you wanna stop = you apply 1 finger pressure to the front brake lever and using as a machinist would use micrometer = you can literally control your stopping power to the point that the rear wheel will raise off the ground (these kids that grew up on these amazing bikes and have aquired high levels of skills with them - from practicing A LOT - call the raising of the rear wheel like a reverse wheelie a "stoppie".. I have personally seen watched highly skilled riders/brake users ride down a MotoGP from 170 mph to 0 in a stoppie = those front brakes have that much controllable stopping power!!! If you look at one of the bikes I am talking about you will quickly notice the huge difference in both caliper and rotor size front to back.. IMHO, this is telling evidence that by design,, the stopping power is up front and the rear wheel braking must be about something else.. When riding one of these bikes (any bike for that matter - IMHO) at speed, it only takes a couple times of pushing it in a corner to realise that front brake usage when cornering is not a good plan - touch the front when in a good lean and the scoot wants to right itself.. Use the rear brake and, even though it does not feel like you have much stopping power - what you do have is speed scrub while maintaining lean angle = kind of strange when ya think about it.. I know,,, I boring you lop eared varmints and I'll shut up but that is the kind of stuff that pops into my mind when reading about brakes and scoots.... Dorky eh -
@videoarizona , could you do me a favor Vaz,,,,, when we were going thru the AWESOME pics on your phone while you were here you showed me one you had snitched off the internet of yours truly stretched out on Tweeks - it was an unplanned impromptu shot that I think was takin at our Bike Time here in town.. If you get a second and happen to see that pic again,, is there a chance you could post it up or send it to me... I would LOVE to have a copy of the two of us out doing our thing... I know, vanity of vanities and all that
