Haaaaaa,,, whaaaaaa,,, you rang? Sorry brother I can't play right now,,,, a buddy of mine of was working on some high temp white wash and apparently cant see real well, got some chems he was using for the type 2 stuff mixed up with the 100% natural stuff he is used to using and he ended up with an explosion that buried everything within 100 miles of the shed in his backyard that houses his evil labrotory with 8 inches of white wash.. Now I am running around like a geezer chicken with his head cut off in a valiant attempt to remove all the leaf blowing stuff (which, because I got side tracked with playing with my Grandson on my tractor, never did finish picking up all my leafs) and getting the blower mounted on Johnny the Deere! I'll be back,, maybe even with pictures of the whole debacle.. God save the King,,, or at least the Puc house!!!!!

I have learned a few things since having to switch over to being a cager for our camping excurtions and purchasing Trooper, our new Ioniq. Yes he does fairly easily get into the 60 MPG range and WOWZY, talk about cozy for camping. One of the downfalls I have noticed though is the days of cheap, Dollar Store 20/50 oil usage are gone. I always changed my oil on Tweeks when it got dirty or shifting got notchy (usually well before 3500 miles) and always appreciated the ease of finding cheap stuff to run thru her. Trooper is a totally different kind of creature though,, a little more uppity I would say.. His 10 year warranty requires a diet of high priced Full Synthetic 0-20 with a strong suggestion to stay with Quacker State, that, IMHO, is one of the draw backs of dropping the cash on one of these new fangdangled things. After finding that out and picking myself up off the floor when our dealership told us that a oil change was 60 bucks, I started watching for a cheap source. I found it at MENARDS!! I have been picking off my first 18 quart batch that I grabbed way back before we headed out for our first month on the road with Trooper. Now I notice that Menards is once again, today only, redoing the sale = 3 bucks a quart after rebate (we LOVE rebating at Menards - we are "Rebate Date" people me Tip, a couple of true one offs I reckon!! Thought I better pass on the savings before heading out to grab Troops next batch of Texas Tea!! Puc By the way,, Gas is at $2.10 here!! Life is good!!

AWESOME STUFF GUYS!! I got whipped on and punished pretty bad just for drawing pictures of choppers when I was in Kinny Gartin (true story) so, I missed the formative years of building models and had to jump directly into building the life sized stuff.. It's all good though cause I actually enjoyed riding the things as much as I did building em..

Bayonet mount for little mini gun would be my first guess..

Sure enough,, bunch of great folks too! Here are a bunch of em! WOWZY WOW WOW = great mems!!

Start problem Venture 1987r.
cowpuc replied to seba7011's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Was that a new starter or a used one? I have heard similar sounds coming from starter drag.. Was it making exactly that sound before you swapped out the starter? My experience with the starter clutch (very limited) has been more like rocks being ground up and/or bouncing around under the stator cover,, that just sounds starterish to me.. Maybe even the mating gear for the starter shaft gear is worn and allowing the starter shaft to spin in it.. Maybe take a peek at the gear cut into the armature of the starter you took off and see if its showing sign of wear. Another thing that could be,, maybe you did not get the starter shaft go all the way into the mating gear when you reinstalled.. I agree with Carl,, maybe redo the video from a couple different locations... LOVE THE V-Max!!! All the best get er back on er feet!! -
Oh,, by the way,, I KNOW ya cant eat horns but NICE 6 point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless things have really really changed and/or you are no longer hunting in Michigan ( I know NOTHING of Wisconsin rules), you might wanna double check your genuine Michigan Hunting Guide and make sure you are not reading "bag limit" in the huntin section Jeff. I have a hunch that 5 a day on White Tail may be over the limit:Laugh: .. GOOD SHOOTIN BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any of those been pistol whooped or all been rifle took (I am sure you aint fooling with no bow hunting now that it's Gun Deer season)? What are ya shootin (shootin iron and ammo wise)? You hunting from a tree stand, in a ground blind or doing one of my favorites of just hiding behind a tree (I use to love tree stand hunting with a rifle instead of my bow BUT,, I also LOVED cleaning out around the base of a big tree really really well so I could hide behind the tree and be able to walk around it very quietly as those creatures carrying the venison to me approached - I actually killed one at 10 FEET away by doing that ). Gotta hear us some good ol deer camp successful hunting stories here:thumbsup2: Come on,, light the camp fire and tell us some "Tails":dancefool: LOVE the pics!! BEAUTIFUL!!

2019 Star Venture
cowpuc replied to Yoopermoose's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I can't help but notice the change in the vents on the lower fairings. Back when we rode the SVTC at Sturgis I noticed that these vent systems were only functional for pass thru air on the very bottom couple of vents and the top sections of the vent slots were actually non-funtional. Being an air cooled bike I was somewhat shocked that Mom Yam didn't seek to allow as much air flow thru the vents and across the engine fins for cooling as possible. The Yamaha rep on site actually pointed out that there was a fair amount of devices hidden behind those non-functional vents and imbedded into the lower fairings (I have never owned a 2nd Gen Venture either but I believe Mom Yam did something similar with the lowers on that model too, making it difficult to remove the lowers??). I dont know if that all changed with the bikes that were actually released to the buying public in an effort to end up with more air movement available to the engine and rider but, in this video of the 2019, it appears that some changes in that area have taken place? -
WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, THAT is GORGEOUS BOSSMAN,, JUST GORGEOUS!!! Congrats,, and again I say CONGRATS to you two!!! Heyyyy,,, did I ever tell you that right here out our back door, at the start of Michigans BEST touring roads, is a State Park with camp sites that overlook Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan? People come from miles and miles away to camp right down the road from our house and enjoy, besides the great people of the area, taking endless scenic tours along our lake shore!! Of course, we also have a spare bedroom just in case you folks get tired of sleeping in a trailer .. Come see us ya lop eared SVTC riding varmint!! Be a fresh killed 1/4 pound Hot Dog in it for ya if ya do brother! On another point of interest,, I wonder if anyone else noticed that @Marcarl seems to always be having alignment problems (if memory serves me, he was having them with his Trike when he and Dogman came and visited us) of some sort? Am I the only one that is suspicious of who/what/where/when the REAL alignment issues lie with when it comes to Carl?

Thanks Larry, IMHO, just knowing where the oil is appearing helps a lot in possibly helping you. What you will probably find is that the oil seal on the engine side of the water pump shaft has failed. I have knocked a few of those out over the years with the same result as you are experiencing and want to assure you that its really not that difficult of a repair or that uncommon. A word of advice that you might consider though, on my 1st Gens, when that particular seal has leaked, I also check the impellar shaft that passes thru that seal very carefully as it is known to wear a smudge into the shaft which creates a difficult area for the lip of the seal to seal against. If it were me and I was paying for someone else to repair it, I would ask them to replace the impellar/shaft and all replace all related seals and bearings and then to be sure and save all the old parts for me. When I picked up the bike I would be expecting to see parts 6 (bearing), 7 (seal that keeps engine oil from leaking out of weep hole), 8 (mechanical seal - ceramic if I recall - that keeps coolant in water pump and not leaking from weep hole), 2 (impellar with shaft) as shown in the parts diagram link. Again, I have never ever ever worked on an RSV and I suppose it is possible that the impeller shaft is separatable from the impellar itself - if this is the case, I would have no problem with them spinning a new shaft into the impellar, its the new shaft I would be looking for so the seal has a good contact area to seal against.. Make sense? Here is that link: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50047c17f8700209bc79910e/water-pump

In reading what Duey wrote about not knowing what is meant by "pass straight thru the overflow" I gotta admit I smiled, nodded my head and said out loud,,, THAT is exactly my ??.. My thick skull simply cant discern exactly what we are talking about here so maybe,, in pure humbleness on my part,, I wonder if you could explain exactly what is meant by that comment Larry and also explain exactly where you are seeing/finding oil discharge? Going from a little experience with the 1st Gen's (never worked on a 2nd Gen like yours) and assuming they are pretty much the same in engine/coolant system design, the water pump is housed on the right hand, front lower corner of the engine - right above the oil level site window. On the bottom of the oil pump housing is a small hole where coolant or oil can leak from if the pump seals fail. Is this the spot you are getting oil/coolant mix from? If so, please note that there is a separation between the seals on that shaft that should be suffecient enough to not allow oil to pass into the waterpump but should make any oil that gets by the oil seal on the engine end of the shaft drain from the weep hole first, keeping it from getting into the coolant inside of the pump housing. The pump shaft end leading into the waterpump where the impellar resides is riding on a ceramic seal/bearing that, when worn, will allow coolant to pass by and then it will exit the housing and out thru the drain hole before it contaminates the engine oil. A mixture of both coolant and oil coming from that weep hole would indicate that both the seals keeping the coolant in the water pump impellar side and the oil seal on the engine of the shaft that keeps the oil in the engine have failed.. Does any of that make sense? Or, per chance, are we talking about oil in the overflow from the radiator cap area? If so, as mentioned, the "twinkie" coolant exchanger area is a common place to look as would be a head gasket. Another not so common but very commonly overlooked place for issues are the coolant joints up on the heads - located right above the spark plugs. Those plugs are protected from and sealed by "O" rings that also can fail. Parts "8" and "20" are the parts on this diagram that I am speaking of: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50047c16f8700209bc79910a/cylinder-head I am no guru by any stretch of the word and hopefully I am not leading you on a wild goose chase here but I would look in that direction too, especially if you are picking up coolant in your engine oil as well as vice versa (that was another question I had,, are you seeing any milkyness in your oil?). A simple but often overlooked method for testing issues like this is the old pressure testing the coolant system. I think Harbor Freight still sells a cheap pump/kit for doing this, its as easy as hooking up a hand pump to a cap with a hose connection on it and putting a few pounds of pressure on the system and see if it holds. If it doesnt you start looking for leaks. Another something to consider is spark plug conditions. Sometimes a head gasket will seep water and the plug of the jug/head that is leaking will have a different look to it. Also, you can usually smell anti freeze in any amount passing thru a combustion chamber in any form.. I know,, I talk wayyyyyy to much,, I get rambling on and on,, sorry bout that..

Lost somewhere in the far reaches of my dust covered, round em up, shoot em up, quick draw McGraw, the bad guy always gets it in the end childhood television watching memories, there lies a tender spot with the name "Tombstone" hovering over it. I did not realize how tender that spot still was until I noticed that iconic name on a road sign not to far east of Saguaro N.P./Tucson. Tip, Trooper and I just had to go see!!!!!! -
IMHO (I know,, in trouble already ,, but I figured I'd join the rest of ya'll who are headed for the club's penalty box here ) what we are seeing here transcends Politics. My wife stared at me with eyes of when I pointed at the boob tube screen yesterday when the President of the U.S. kept having to tell the news guy to sit down and shut up and I told her that the scene reminded me of a situation I had encountered back when I was teaching 4th grade. I looked at Tippy, smiled and said = it's a simple rule - ya raise your hand, ya get chosen, ya ask a question, ya get an answer and when the "teacher" says its someone elses turn,, it's someone elses turn = pretty simple one would think. Bottom line? What ever happened to common sense courtesy, respect of authority and the idea of playing by the rules? I don't know if it's a societal spiritual problem, a blatant disregard for respect of even one's own person and personal accountability because the educational systems are failing us or if it's just a simple matter of a society that is spoiled rotten but there is definitely something in the wind cause,, and here is where my opinion is about to get me in trouble again, IMHO - we have entered into a day and age where even sharing a different opinion can get ya in trouble and that's not good. Case in point, not long ago I shared my opinion about the new Venture once to often and ended up getting a text message on my phone that served as a reminder to me that "geezers like me should be careful in sharing my opinion on motorcycles like that as people had gotten beat up for less". I am sure, to most folks, this would have been taken as a joke but in our case, not so much. I ended up having to alter my life style to accommodate someone else's need for being in control of someone elses opinion - AND THIS WAS ABOUT A MOTORCYCLE . More recently and more to do with today's political stuff like we are talking about (but, IMHO, dealing with the same type of person(s) ),, we recently had local politicians stop in and ask if they could put signs up on our corner like they had in the past. Under normal conditions and in the past, I/we have allowed any and all to put up the signs cause Tip and I have always encouraged and enjoyed the whole "GET OUT AND VOTE" stuff (IMHO, voting is part of being an American patriot) and we actually enjoyed seeing the mixture of opinions stated in the collection of signs on our corner. This time though, because of current societal lack of respect and common sense, I had to 100% decline any signage being placed on our property. Later, a good friend who's personal political opinion matches mine, came down with a sign representing a Senator that he knew I would be voting for in the election. He was shocked when I told him nope,, couldn't do it and just as shocked when I told him that the reason why was that I didn't want a rock thrown thru a window. His response was = "if that happens at my house someone will get shot!!". I explained to him that THAT was exactly my point. Think about it,, someone dressed in all black with their face covered steps into your yard and tosses a rock thru $15000 worth of window because they disagree with your opinion, you see em, grab your .45 and blow em away, the cops show up and pull the mask off the body laying on your lawn,, the face of a 13 year girl who was caught up an act of childish rebellion (same type of rebellion that the reporter who lost his White House privileges yesterday IMHO) and was unable to take control of her classroom from her teacher at school earlier that day lays dead on your lawn = now who is in trouble AND who is going to have to live with the memory of having hurt/killed some kid because they broke your window. To me and IMHO,, its just not worth the trouble. I know my buddy did not agree with me (called me a coward ) but I also know for a fact that I am not alone in what I think I see going on cause 90% of the houses in our area that used to have no problem putting up political signs were void of sharing opinion this time.. God help us if we don't somehow, some way find our way back to common sense and respect for ourselves and ultimately each other. IMHO of course

NICE!!!!! Personally, a beat up old KLR 650, V-Strom or Honda XL would be more to my liking but only from the perspective of,,, if it fell over and tumble 200 feet off a cliff out in Moab because I forgot to put a hunk of rock under its kickstand I could afford to leave it in a heap down in the gorge where it lay but yea,,, putting an 80 horse, 500 pound Guzzi like that thru its paces would DEFINITELY be a 1/4 ton of fun brother = DEFINITELY!! Good catch Cammy:thumbsup:!!!

BEEEEEAAUUUUUTIFUL pics brother,, absolutely gorgeous!! As noted, You and I are definitely cut from the same pattern !! On tires, spark plugs, and motor oil.
cowpuc replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would make a comment but I have never ever owned an RSV and have only worked on one of them = helped @videoarizona replace a back tire on his cause he poked a hole in the one that was on it. That said though, I do got to agree about the Champion Spark plugs,,, stuck one in my John Deere LX and 3rd gear wheelies = no problembo!! Good read Bay!! -
