  1. Tip, Tweeks and I were goofing off CTFW while heading out to see if we could find the farthest North West corner of the U.S. one year and, typical of three drifter wannabe's, ended up getting caught in a cross wind in Minnesota that landed us at the Spam Museum in Austin (that's right,, Minnesota has an Austin just like Texas!!). It was really a fun place and, get this,, unlike many tourist trap joints that ya find now adays, the welcoming committee at the Museum even honored Tweeks with a free sticker, which her sister, Tweeksis, still wears proudly to this very day. If any of you lop eared CTFW varmints ever decide to check out the ol Spammer ammer Museum, another point of interest right down the road is a town called "Blue Earth" and that is the home of the Jolly Green Giant. No museum but a neat little park to snap some pics at BUT,, you paying attention here?,,, Blue Earth has free 1 over night camping at their Fair Grounds that includes a great hot shower!!
  2. Having no experience with the RSV I should probably keep my to myself but being similar to the 1st Gens, I thought I would toss this out there.. The Stock, OEM plates in my 1st Gens have always produced an excellent clutch range of feathering. Their downfall though has always been, at least on my bikes, they also produced a weak clutch that, even brand new, would slip in the top gears as soon as I brought the engine "up on the pipe" (an old two-stroke riders term for hitting the power band) if I had a full load on. I am currently running non-OEM, after market Barnett plates and, although they hook up like a locker when I wick er up, the engagement position out on the perch is now very close to full lever and a lot more sensitive. Reading this thread,, I really wonder if the Barnett plates would not be a PERFECT candidate for setting up a clutch with a cantilevered lever. My R1 has Quick Click adjustable levers on it (but it is cable) that I LOVE so I know the desire to be able to move the lever in but, other than thru the plates, or maybe by adding a few thou to the clutch rod that engages the pressure plate? - I really cant think of any other decent method of accomplishing the task.. Maybe someone like MiCarl , or Prairiehammer or Skydoc or Flyinfool or videoarizona or VanRiver or the likes would have a clue..
  3. Oh believe me,,, especially at this time of year,, the name "FlyinFool" is mentioned a LOT over here on this side of the pond!! Matter of fact, I was in at Walmart today back in the Tire Dept. waiting in line and swear I heard a mechanic with a car up on the lift say something like "Derned FlyinFool" when a great big glob of wet, heavy Wisconsin White Wash plopped from the inner fender of the car he was working on and landed on the back of his neck.. Definitely made me proud just knowing who he was referring to brother:moon::moon::moon:
  4. Judge: I see from reading the charges levied against you and clearly stated in the Prosecuters post found on Starmotorcycles that - and I quote - "This is the same individual who complained about pricing of the SVTC. If you’ve seen the condition of his 1st Gen then the issue of “affordability” comes into clear focus". Do you offer the Court/Jury any explanation for said charges of not being able to afford a new motorcycle? Puc: Well your holy and most high Honor, it's like this. I am part of a bike club that is full of 1/2 percenters, a tougher bunch of lop eared rotten egg varmints the court has never met. Being more of a lover than the fighting sort, I knew when I joined said Club that I would have to find a way to stay out of trouble. I found out that most of those varmints had an insatiable appetite for Hot Dogs. Being sort of a clever character myself, I formulated a plan of action where I would have an occasional biker Hot Dog party. Things got wayyy out of hand and, before long,, Tippy (the lady over there who is refusing to testify against me) - Tweeks (the motorcycle mentioned in the Prosecuters report in question) and I found ourselves carrying packages of Hot Dogs all over the State of Michigan just to keep said varmints satisfied. To date, I have a little over $171,000 invested in Hot Dogs/buns/chips/pops and, of course, Party Beads (what fun is a biker Hot Dog Party with no Party Beads,,,, Sir?) so,, I guess you could say, my quest for keeping the peace and enjoying life with my buddies was more important to me than riding a new bike. Judge: Puc,,, the court would like to know what that streak of Red spotted with little pieces of green things would be in your beard? Puc,, with a funny look on his face: That would be left over condiments from the Hot Dogs I had for lunch:8:. Your holy Honor is quite a perceptive lop ea,,,,, Judge,,, Your Most High Robed Varmint Honor !! Judge: Noting the circumstances presented before the court today, it is clear that the lop eared varmints within the Motorcycle Club in question are not alone in their love for the 1/4 pound hot dogs in question and that the defendents reason for not being able to afford the price of a new bike is here by considered nonsense. It is therefore a decision of this court that the defendent shall herefore and herewith be forever condemed to a lifetime of pursueing life from the seat of a beat up old sticker covered 83 Venture named Tweeks and shall continue to provide the lop eared rotten egg 1/2 percenter varmints in said M.C. with Hot Dogs lest things get real ugly and those varmints look to a normal and peaceful society for their Hot Dog slaying adventures.. Case Closed:biker:
  5. Hi Rick Butler, ya lop eared seat making varmint,, wassup .. Tires eay.. IMHO: Didnt care for the strange vibes the random tread patterns produced when the Venoms got half worn. LOVED the CHEAP (60 bucks) Full Bore I spooned on Tweeks out in Cali one time. GOOD Mileage (5k) on hot tarmac. Great canyon carving, rain tire! Like them so much I actually dropped a set onto my R1 and have now seen 200 mph with em - GOOD TIRE for the $$.. Have ran a couple dozen sets of Shink 230's out now.. EXCELLENT tire (wanna thank my good friend videoarizona for turning me onto them = THANKS again VAz!!). Dirt cheap, super handling, good mileage (5 to 6k) on rear, x2 that on front. VERY stable tire in extreme heat but still sticky in temps under 40. Way easy to spoon on and off. Ran down a couple sets of Kenda's,, very similar to the wear/feel/price of the Shinks but the Kendas get way noisy in the corners when the tread hits 50%. So much so that you can see the "buzz" in the mirrors and feel it in the bars in the twisties at speed. For the price, the Shinko's a much better tire/deal IMHO. Squidly noticed my new Metz when he and I were fixin on Tweeks at his place in Texas years ago.. Commented about a delam problem he and Sweet Nothin had experienced. Crazy as this may sound, on that trip to the west coast via Big Bend and Glacier, coming in from a VR rally in Oregon at The Dalles, sure enough,, DELAM (got pics if ya need to see what that looked like)! Never gave Metz a second chance. I have ridden down numerous flats, not that much fun and dont go lookin for em. Michelin Commander 2 = GOOD top mileage tire at 8k wear off but not worth the price IMHO as I could buy 3 Shinks or Full Bores for price of one Michelin and the Michelin couldnt do there and back again to the coast (ended up a disaster cause I had to do the swap on the road instead of doing at my Daughters in Sacramento). I do my own tires so mount and balance is free,, besides,, I actually like scraping my knuckles and pinchin my fingers between the bead and the rim:223:.. I liked the 404's for handling and all that BUT,, WOWZY WOW WOW WOW did they wear FAST!! Tip/Tweeks and I took one down to the cords at 3500 miles once out doin the desert. Replaced it with another 404 in a Yam shop parking lot and, again, that one barely broke 4k before it was gone. Got a smackin good deal on a couple Continintals and they were good tires too. Wore like IRON in the heat but not so fun in the rain. For some reason I had cupping problems on the front tire with both sets and only got half life from them. I would do Connies again. Brings me to the E-4 that was mentioned. Right now, after a full, solid trip to the west coast and back,, the tire still looks BRAND NEW (down 1/32 on tread)!! For our way of riding, style of packing (we are/were tenters) and riding hot tarmac of the desert,, this tire is the FIRST tire ever to make the full trip out west and back!! I paid for the "dual compound" tire for a test (x3 of a Shink and it was on sale ) cause Dunny says x6 coast to coast in their advertising.. Looking at it now,, I have a hunch they are not to far off. Surprisingly, that hard rubber center on the tire does a great job in the rain and, get this, even on cooler pavement it is an amazing shoe for doing the twisties.. Only REALLY big issue (and one that will be a deal breaker if I ever have a redo because I MUST be able to do my own swaps) is there is NO WAY on Gods green earth that puppy is coming off there without a tire machine. On a Shink I could do a full rear swap in less than an hour. It took me all afternoon just to convince the E-4 that it wanted to go on the rim - SERIOUSLY!! Plus being it aint gonna slip the bead on a blow out I guess but WOWZY is that heavy duty thang!! Ooppsss,, I know,,, wayyy long winded,, sorry bout that. Hope this helps.. Puc P.S. - always LOVED your seat work brother!! Have recommended to MANY = GOOD JOB!!
  6. No doubt about it, front to back it is fairly easy to tell if you know what your looking for and you pay attention to detail!!
  7. ,,, ya did it again Duey,,, Negative Energy ,,,, (Start at 2 minutes) = "it's a beautiful Tank,,, IT'S A PIECE OF JUNK!!,, the fuel system leaks all over da place,,, always wid da negative waves!!!! Forward,,,, HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :guitarist 2::guitarist 2:
  8. I dont think that would be a problem Spence, the same guy you are talking about caught me Auctioning off his brand new Harley at this auction (see vid) down at one of his MD's a couple years ago and we still parted good buddies after that one.
  9. ""I have a really good friend who lives on the other side of Lake Michigan from me. It is rumored that he has a machine that produces what I call Wisconsin White Wash and he has also been working a new product that is high temp white wash. I recently heard rumors that there was a small explosion coming from his Laboratory last night as apparently, my buddy FlyinFool got some wires crossed and some high temp white wash chemicals mixed up with normal white wash chems. What you are seeing here is a result of that chaotic moment in time some 48 miles away from ground zero. As I said in the video, THANK YOU FlyinFool!!""
  10. Ahhh,, believe me Duey, you are more than welcome and, in fact, the pleasure is all mine brother!! I really need to say thank you to you here though as your timing is/was impeccable!! A friend e-mailed me this link this morning: https://www.starbikeforums.com/forums/130-venture-eluder/115866-i-just-discovered-very-unique-comparison-between-old-new.html which shows that not everyone appreciates my definition of the "finer art form" of living life large . Your comment put me back to equalibrium Duey!! Keep the faith,,, I sure am!!! Puc
  11. Haaaaaa,,, whaaaaaa,,, you rang? Sorry brother I can't play right now,,,, a buddy of mine of was working on some high temp white wash and apparently cant see real well, got some chems he was using for the type 2 stuff mixed up with the 100% natural stuff he is used to using and he ended up with an explosion that buried everything within 100 miles of the shed in his backyard that houses his evil labrotory with 8 inches of white wash.. Now I am running around like a geezer chicken with his head cut off in a valiant attempt to remove all the leaf blowing stuff (which, because I got side tracked with playing with my Grandson on my tractor, never did finish picking up all my leafs) and getting the blower mounted on Johnny the Deere! I'll be back,, maybe even with pictures of the whole debacle.. God save the King,,, or at least the Puc house!!!!!
  12. I have learned a few things since having to switch over to being a cager for our camping excurtions and purchasing Trooper, our new Ioniq. Yes he does fairly easily get into the 60 MPG range and WOWZY, talk about cozy for camping. One of the downfalls I have noticed though is the days of cheap, Dollar Store 20/50 oil usage are gone. I always changed my oil on Tweeks when it got dirty or shifting got notchy (usually well before 3500 miles) and always appreciated the ease of finding cheap stuff to run thru her. Trooper is a totally different kind of creature though,, a little more uppity I would say.. His 10 year warranty requires a diet of high priced Full Synthetic 0-20 with a strong suggestion to stay with Quacker State, that, IMHO, is one of the draw backs of dropping the cash on one of these new fangdangled things. After finding that out and picking myself up off the floor when our dealership told us that a oil change was 60 bucks, I started watching for a cheap source. I found it at MENARDS!! I have been picking off my first 18 quart batch that I grabbed way back before we headed out for our first month on the road with Trooper. Now I notice that Menards is once again, today only, redoing the sale = 3 bucks a quart after rebate (we LOVE rebating at Menards - we are "Rebate Date" people me Tip, a couple of true one offs I reckon!! Thought I better pass on the savings before heading out to grab Troops next batch of Texas Tea!! Puc By the way,, Gas is at $2.10 here!! Life is good!!
  13. AWESOME STUFF GUYS!! I got whipped on and punished pretty bad just for drawing pictures of choppers when I was in Kinny Gartin (true story) so, I missed the formative years of building models and had to jump directly into building the life sized stuff.. It's all good though cause I actually enjoyed riding the things as much as I did building em..
  14. Bayonet mount for little mini gun would be my first guess..
  15. Putting the Grand in a grand Thanksgiving Day!! Now its on to California to see if I can cause just as much mischief with the other little feller over Christmas. Just like yesterdays wine...... Puc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ7sYvYexAs
  16. Sure enough,, bunch of great folks too! Here are a bunch of em! WOWZY WOW WOW = great mems!!
  17. Was that a new starter or a used one? I have heard similar sounds coming from starter drag.. Was it making exactly that sound before you swapped out the starter? My experience with the starter clutch (very limited) has been more like rocks being ground up and/or bouncing around under the stator cover,, that just sounds starterish to me.. Maybe even the mating gear for the starter shaft gear is worn and allowing the starter shaft to spin in it.. Maybe take a peek at the gear cut into the armature of the starter you took off and see if its showing sign of wear. Another thing that could be,, maybe you did not get the starter shaft go all the way into the mating gear when you reinstalled.. I agree with Carl,, maybe redo the video from a couple different locations... LOVE THE V-Max!!! All the best get er back on er feet!!
  18. Oh,, by the way,, I KNOW ya cant eat horns but NICE 6 point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Unless things have really really changed and/or you are no longer hunting in Michigan ( I know NOTHING of Wisconsin rules), you might wanna double check your genuine Michigan Hunting Guide and make sure you are not reading "bag limit" in the huntin section Jeff. I have a hunch that 5 a day on White Tail may be over the limit:Laugh: .. GOOD SHOOTIN BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any of those been pistol whooped or all been rifle took (I am sure you aint fooling with no bow hunting now that it's Gun Deer season)? What are ya shootin (shootin iron and ammo wise)? You hunting from a tree stand, in a ground blind or doing one of my favorites of just hiding behind a tree (I use to love tree stand hunting with a rifle instead of my bow BUT,, I also LOVED cleaning out around the base of a big tree really really well so I could hide behind the tree and be able to walk around it very quietly as those creatures carrying the venison to me approached - I actually killed one at 10 FEET away by doing that ). Gotta hear us some good ol deer camp successful hunting stories here:thumbsup2: Come on,, light the camp fire and tell us some "Tails":dancefool: LOVE the pics!! BEAUTIFUL!!
  20. xInfinity for me too Drew and right back at cha brother!!! and VR!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. This is Puc Bodett
  22. I can't help but notice the change in the vents on the lower fairings. Back when we rode the SVTC at Sturgis I noticed that these vent systems were only functional for pass thru air on the very bottom couple of vents and the top sections of the vent slots were actually non-funtional. Being an air cooled bike I was somewhat shocked that Mom Yam didn't seek to allow as much air flow thru the vents and across the engine fins for cooling as possible. The Yamaha rep on site actually pointed out that there was a fair amount of devices hidden behind those non-functional vents and imbedded into the lower fairings (I have never owned a 2nd Gen Venture either but I believe Mom Yam did something similar with the lowers on that model too, making it difficult to remove the lowers??). I dont know if that all changed with the bikes that were actually released to the buying public in an effort to end up with more air movement available to the engine and rider but, in this video of the 2019, it appears that some changes in that area have taken place?
  23. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, THAT is GORGEOUS BOSSMAN,, JUST GORGEOUS!!! Congrats,, and again I say CONGRATS to you two!!! Heyyyy,,, did I ever tell you that right here out our back door, at the start of Michigans BEST touring roads, is a State Park with camp sites that overlook Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan? People come from miles and miles away to camp right down the road from our house and enjoy, besides the great people of the area, taking endless scenic tours along our lake shore!! Of course, we also have a spare bedroom just in case you folks get tired of sleeping in a trailer .. Come see us ya lop eared SVTC riding varmint!! Be a fresh killed 1/4 pound Hot Dog in it for ya if ya do brother! On another point of interest,, I wonder if anyone else noticed that @Marcarl seems to always be having alignment problems (if memory serves me, he was having them with his Trike when he and Dogman came and visited us) of some sort? Am I the only one that is suspicious of who/what/where/when the REAL alignment issues lie with when it comes to Carl?
  24. Thanks Larry, IMHO, just knowing where the oil is appearing helps a lot in possibly helping you. What you will probably find is that the oil seal on the engine side of the water pump shaft has failed. I have knocked a few of those out over the years with the same result as you are experiencing and want to assure you that its really not that difficult of a repair or that uncommon. A word of advice that you might consider though, on my 1st Gens, when that particular seal has leaked, I also check the impellar shaft that passes thru that seal very carefully as it is known to wear a smudge into the shaft which creates a difficult area for the lip of the seal to seal against. If it were me and I was paying for someone else to repair it, I would ask them to replace the impellar/shaft and all replace all related seals and bearings and then to be sure and save all the old parts for me. When I picked up the bike I would be expecting to see parts 6 (bearing), 7 (seal that keeps engine oil from leaking out of weep hole), 8 (mechanical seal - ceramic if I recall - that keeps coolant in water pump and not leaking from weep hole), 2 (impellar with shaft) as shown in the parts diagram link. Again, I have never ever ever worked on an RSV and I suppose it is possible that the impeller shaft is separatable from the impellar itself - if this is the case, I would have no problem with them spinning a new shaft into the impellar, its the new shaft I would be looking for so the seal has a good contact area to seal against.. Make sense? Here is that link: https://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50047c17f8700209bc79910e/water-pump
