Sure enough,,, back in my younger days I LOVED snowmobiling too and used to summerized my sleds in the same way.. I actually LOVED walking out back during those warm summer days after spending a month CTFW on the bike, pulling the cover off the T-Cat while it was sitting up on blocks, snugging the track back up and then firing up that 165 hp, winter fun machine and sniffin the 2 stroke fumes ... WOWZY,, where did the time go .. Now I think I matured into your line of thinking here Lar!!

I may be crazy and only dreamed this (I do this a lot lately,,,,,, sure, go ahead and laugh fuzz ball BUT in your laughter REMEMBER,, we all get old!!) but while reading the forum on that tiny little screen, didnt I read where one of you lop eared varmints was looking for a rubber plug for the Anti Dive on a 1st Gen? If you are you and your reading this,,, did you find one?

I KNOW,, right.... -7 is a bit nippy for these tired old bones.. I used to not mind playing in the stuff but for this phase of life,, not a good plan.. What da heck,, I grabbed the 1911 and went shootin yesterday and even my trigger froze out after only burning thru 50 rounds!! Speaking of riding,, I did have Tweeks out a couple days ago! Seriously brother!! I went downstairs, cycled her fuel pump with the kill switch until her bowls were good and full, pushed her out of the basement, crank her up (sounded and smell AWESOME), took her right off chock so I didnt blacken er plugs, let her sit and idle till she took throttle, revved her up on the mains a few times,, brought er up to temp, shut er down and pushed er back inside!! Indeed,, this has always worked great for keepin the carbs cleaned but I think I enjoyed it as much as that beat up, tired old worn out sticker covered pretty girl did!! Another flaw in my charachter I spose LOL

Personally,, I still use good old cheap Dollar Store 20/50 when CTFW in the desert and 15/40 when CTFW anytime I am in @Flyingfool's region . I know,, not normal and wayyyyyy old school but hey, I never minded dropping the oil out of em at 3k miles or when the shiftin gets sticky or the oil looks dark thru the site glass (which comes first) and my 1st Gen's always seemed to love the stuff!!!

Speaking of smelly opinions,, I have long held the thought that this is exactly the reason that HD - longggg ago went with Roller Lifters on their pushrod, air cooled V-Twins and also why, right after seeing the "113 under glass" out at Sturgis I mentioned being amazed that Yamaha decided to not follow HD's lead thereof but instead chose to not use them but go metal to metal flat lifters on the new bike. Perhaps modern day oils as being discussed have eliminated the need for the added costs of running rollers cause the new Venture seems to be doing fine - a tribute to Yamaha and to the oil industry for progress being made in there house!! Personally,, I still use good old cheap Dollar Store 20/50 when CTFW in the desert and 15/40 when CTFW anytime I am in @Flyingfool's region . I know,, not normal and wayyyyyy old school but hey, I never minded dropping the oil out of em at 3k miles and my 1st Gen's always seemed to love the stuff!!!

My Dad was a Cop back during the original Woodstock day and age. He had a REALLY close friend named Jason Kraii who owned and operated the Grand Haven Roller Rink in Grand Haven Mi from the late 50's up into the 80's. From the early 60's into the early 70's Jason hosted a Friday Night venue at the rink called "The Grand Haven Beach Bash" which was pretty much our area's (west Michigans Lake Shore) miniature version of Woodstock. My Dad was the head of security/main bouncer at the Rinks weekend end events during those amazing years and rubbed shoulders with the likes of The Beach Boys, The Doors, The Monkeys, Alice Cooper, The Byrds, Bob Seager, The Archies, Tommy James and the Shondells, Sha Nah Nah, Bob Dylan among many many other all time greats when they came to town and LOTS of the one hit wonders of that time that we lop eared hippy varmints who grew up during that time remember so well. Jason also welcomed many local Michigan artist like Dell Shannon (anyone remember "Runaway"?). I was 1 of 7 kids and the "Black Sheep" of the family so Dad had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders in keeping things together/funding the family so he was always VERY grateful to Jason and his wife for the extra weekly income. Mr. Kraii LOVED our family/us kids dearly and us older offspring pretty much grew up on roller skates going round and round at his rink (FREE ACCESS TO SKATE ANYTIME THE RINK WAS OPEN SKATE). The Kraii's had a pet Chimpanzee that he would often bring to the rink to let us kids play with. He (the chimp) never did figure out how to make himself move on the rink BUT he LOVED to stand in his skates and be pulled around the rink by us LOL.. Roller Derby was a real thing too and I always DREAMED of getting involved in it BUT, this was before the day and age when just saying you were a girl would get you an open door onto the girls team and it was the girls Roller Derby I was most interested in so I didnt bother to attempt a verbal switch to the opposite sex LOL. More about the chimp, I will never forget sitting on the stool in front of the skate rental room and listening to Mr. Kraii tell my Dad about what had happened the week before when he left the little ape skater home and went to the rink without him.. Seems the little lop eared varmint found a way to get his pen open and proceeded to DESTROY the interior of their gorgeous home - that rascal definitely defaulted to the LITERAL meaning of not monkeying around!! What an amazing time to be a teenager that was!! It was CRAZY fun that I would not trade for anything!!

:thumbsup: On the other hand, and just thinkin out loud here,,, I KNEW there was a definable reason that @Flyinfool has been working so hard on Jet Propulsion air craft.. WWW delivery system? :guitarist 2::guitarist 2: An FYI,, I been harassing him about development of High Temp White Wash, yesterday I was standing outside in 42 degree temp and it was like crazy, today it was 31 degrees and (still is). WTTW,, never underestimate what may be going on between those two peeked on that lop eared varmints head:Cool_cool36:

Go in the bedroom, unlock the gunsafe, grab the 1911, go shoot a couple rounds and see where the casings landed = perfect recoil spring tension should put em out a 5 feet. Now go to ebay and order a full set of springs = 7 pds to 24 pounders and start tuning.. CONGRATS ON THE RETIREMENT SLY!! Don't worry about finding things to keep you from getting bored,,, things to keep that from happening WILL FIND YOU!!!

:no-no-no::no-no-no::no-no-no: never ever under any circumstances share your riding plans in the same thread that you mention @Flyinfool and the WWW .. Go riding = YES,, post pics of the ride on the club house walls afterwords = ABSOLUTELY, harrass Fool when the ride is ALL DONE = TO INFINITEY AND BEYOND!! But I gotta tell ya brother,, you are walking on mighty thin Wisconsin White Wash covered ice when you put em both in the same post... :guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2:

,,, WIN/WIN!!! When you need heat, just tap on the Blower switch to shut the motor off and wave your hand to move some air so the burner will light,,, easy peasy.. As cold as it gets around here, having to physically control the unit like that may keep you busy enough that your WWW plans for this winter will be set aside.. WIN/WIN... Sounds like that switch your tapping on is done.. Makes no sense that tapping on would seperate the contacts if they were being held in by a current flow. I would start there but,,, consider the source

One more thing before I do though,,,, Tip is standing behind me APPLAUDING your little paint can man message brother!!

Thats just cause you were outside in the WWW shed finishing up the tweek on those nozzles,,,, noticing that fluffin ya gave us today,, looks like ya about got er dialed in. Speaking of crazy stuff,,, you know what a good set of old school 0-1 Starrett Mics go for (talking real deal stuff,, like we used back in the 60/70's - not the fake stuff).. Look em up a second ago,, 600 bucks sound right Makes me feel like a dinasour, some great memories though,, I LOVED machining,,, would have never left itf the trades wouldnt have x3 my wage just for climbing steel to tig up a bunch of high pressure boiler walls. I gotta SHUT UP,, another one... :ignore::ignore::ignore::ignore:

GOOD QUESTIONS IMHO!! Gotta try and get this in here before Jeff or another Guru jumps in here. If I were doing this job, had a surface grinder in my pocket and needed shims cause I couldnt find new I would probably grab my old Starrett 0-1's, work off a good clean surface before I hit the magnetic clamp on the grinder and, choosing the most worn surface to grind on if there was one, run em down to tolerance needed by taking the stock off one side. Mic em up so I knew what I had, take the edge off the edges of the fresh grind if I had lost radius (maybe with a hone stone) and then I would place the shim in the bucket with the freshly ground surface facing downwardly into the bucket where it has nothing actually wearing on it. Leaving the factory surface upwardly in the cup would maybe leave a good factory surface to contend with the rotational wear/pressure from the cam lobes meeting them , at least in my grossly negligent back yard feeble mechanical mind Now lets see what the guru's say ,,, uuuuu hooooo,, @Flyinfool,,,

Bump,, but not a hard one like Tweeksis took us over when she took out that U-Joint,,,, just an itty bitty one to keep this thread active

You lop eared engineering marvel varmint walking around with a Surface Grinder in your right pocket .. Probably got a Bridgeport Mill in the left pocket and an Engine Lathe with all the tooling in your jacket When I grow up I wanna be just like my neighbor and buddy Flyinfool,, ,, minus the Wisconsin White Washer though cause I don't have ice in my veins :guitarist 2::moon: I think your offer to custom up some shims is awesome Jeff:thumbsup: .. The kind of stuff that makes being a club member here so much fun!!
