  1. I am right there with you Tuffy!! I have owned many handguns thru the years, had a scoped Smith 29 6 inch in 44 mag I did a LOT of deer killing/hunting with which was another of my favorites but gotta tell ya, my 5 inch 1911 is by far,, my favorite to shoot and have around. I know it is wayyy old school and this probably dont mean much by todays standards but it has a Gen 2 hardened slide, adjustable trigger, National Match Barrel/bushing (stuff you military folks used back in the 60's for competition shooting - THANK YOU for your service by the way TuffTom!!), Signature Pachmyer grips and Bo-Mar adjustable sites on her. I have ran thousands of rounds thru it in everything from +P 230's to Hornady XTP Hollow points (for hunting) to 150 Grain flat nose reman's and it will gobble em all up like @Condor and I eatin ButterNut ice cream as long as it's tuned for em. Matter of fact, that is one awesome thing that I have ALWAYS loved about my 1911, it is super easy to tune and clean. Last couple thousand rounds (just ordered and received another 1000 rounds) its been spitting out cheapy 200 grain flat nose remans. Tuned to spit the cases out to 6 feet with a 12 pound recoil spring - the thing LOVES EM! I know the National Match stuff is a thing of days long gone by but I gotta tell ya, this thing will roll a 5 inch ground roller indestructable target ball out past 75 yards if ya practice with it a little - its deadly.. WHAT AN AMAZING OLD SHOOTER FOR SOMETHING DESIGNED/CREATED IN 1911!!!! @videoarizona,, David,, my AR15 upper parts are suppose to be here today if I am reading the tracker correctly (and if the Post guy can get thru all this white stuff that @Flyinfool left in my driveway)!! Keep an eye on this,, thing is gonna be AWESOME FUN!!
  2. Not everyone is as fortunate as our good friend and my brother VentureFar when it comes to getting to test, write reviews and keep one of those really cool new riding Jackets like he just did a review on (GREAT READ NEAL!! THANK YOU!!), here is a Puc tip on keeping that old zipper zippin!!
  3. GREAT FLYINFOOL,,, dont tell me your sending another one our way !! Talk about a fine tuned WWW - that thing is working GREAT!!! I TOTALLY agree with the take this ANY DAY over the 90+ BUT that only applies with the southern, HUMIDITY infested stuff! I have always held to that which I learned longggg ago,,, that being that the best riding, best weather is that of the desert regions! Yes it can get HOT but IMHO, there really is truth to it being a dry heat.. 105 in the desert is far more comfortable then even 90 degrees in 90 percent humidity.. I have always said that ya gotta get to the west side of the Rockies before real fun biking begins.. Weird eh..
  4. Another most AWESOME review by the best of the best as far as I am concerned my riding in the winter, southern California brother!! VERY WELL DONE!! It is AMAZING what biker jackets have come to! While I am an old school fellow who really likes leather, I can clearly see the advantage to one of these modern wonder of wonder's jackets, ESPECIALLY in the rain/cold! I LOVED the pictures too, all except for the one where you failed to smile (didnt mom teach you nothin Neal? You are suppose to when your gettin your picture tooken ). Seriously though my brother, as always, VERY VERY WELL DONE!! Now,, how about sharing that new best friend neighbor of yours? I would even skip the clothes testing and go right for the bikes!! I LOVE that Honda:biker::guitarist 2: Lucky lop eared getting to ride all those new bikes varmint!! By the way,, keep an eye out in the Water Hole. I am in the process of doing a demo on how us not so fortunate lop eared's can keep our poor old worn out zippered leather jackets in use,,, the demo will be mostly for us less fortunate than that of yourself (not all of us are blest with a new best friend neighbor like you have ) but you can watch it too if you'ld like
  5. Anything yet @Vickersguy? Hopefully that little cosmetic cup didnt end up getting used as an eyeball for one of @Flyinfool's Snowmen on its way to you!!
  6. Oh yeah,, concerning what your sending over next week,,, ya missed us on that last attempt to freeze the planet,,, ya think ya may have the trajectory set on those nozzles correctly this time?
  7. Yea right,, I can just imagine what my spot in the penalty box looks like Fool,,, probably got me sittin right next to "Frosty" :moon: Don't know where you been brother but I gotta remind you that that Duey,, he has been a Master club :witch_brew::witch_brew: FOREVER!!! Not at your level yet (he would have to invent a WWW or something to get to perfection) but hey,, Master is still pretty dog gone good for a lop eared Duey varmint I would say!!
  8. You might be 100% right on the winter brain strain thing there Sly,, it has been -7 windchills here of late. Couple that with the FACT that Flyinfool's been fairly active for us - we are suppose to get another 2 to 4 inches of his White Wash tonight and another 8 inches on Monday,,,, well that definitely is a good foundation for cabin fever. On the 100 rd drum feed, in building this shooter from the ground up one of the basics is the need for some form of magazine. I know, for a few bucks I coulda grabbed a 10 rounder,,, or even a 20. Thing is though, all of my biken buddies here (Harley riding bunch, always carrying on and on about me riding a cheap ol beat up 1st Gen) are shooters just like you and I. I helped one of the build a brand new Dyna up to 117 Cubes cause he thought it would somehow be able to compete with my little 1000cc R1. It is sooooo much fun to run beside him on that big ol noise maker and then when we hit 100 mph with him in 4th gear to be able to grab 2nd and loft my front wheel = get it? The point of this 100 rounder is exactly that,,, a sort of being one step ahead of this bunch of lop eared geezer varmints I call my buddies. I no longer hunt. I used to be an avid deer harvester but those days are long gone. Now the shooting is all about fun. We are surrounded by thousands and thousands of acreage we own (here its called State Land). There is HUGE valley with a river flowing thru it that dumps into Muskegon Lake which dumps into Lake Michigan. That valley is about 5 miles wide in spots and it is all swamp land (lined with AWESOME climbing hills that, as kids we developed/earned our motorcycle hill climbing skills on). It is a RIOT to take a post on one of those hills and to be able to target shoot into the swamp/valley below. Clay Pigeon shooting is also allowed as long as you use real Clay Pigeons so they disenigrate (turn back to dirt) in the valley below. I just picked up a really cool Range Finder that is good for 1600 yards. The plan is to fill the mag, be able to walk to a comfortable edge over looking the valley, range out some pieces of bark in the swamp and blast away - OLD PEOPLES FUN!! One of the reasons I decided to stay with the 556 is that of which you speak - lighter to tote. Another is the VAST amound of cool ammo to try out (I used to reload and have no real interest in going back into that pain staking endeavor at this point). I know of at least one VERY good source for TRACERS at less then .30 a round!!! I have had numerous AK's in 7.62x39 and never really had a good long distance shooter in them. Back in the 80's, around here anyway, the gun shows had CASES and CASES of SKS's - brand new still in cosmoline for well under 100 bucks a pop including Bayonette and cleaning kit. I bought 5 of them at one time once to see if I could get a good shooter (something that would do sub MOA at 100 yards).. Just didnt happen. I even tryed Romanian and Russian AK's,, suckers wouldnt work for me. In the end, for the "fun hunt" (last deer of the season) I just ended up hunting with my 29 Smith or my 1911 and called it good. Another one now that really has my interest is this new a17 Savage semi that is chambered for the 17hmr! That round (the 17) has been really difficult for the manufactures to get to work properly in a semi (both Ruger and Remington took a shot at it and failed) cause of the higher pressures. I guess Savage figured it out and are now using a delayed blow back to make it work. I been hearing good things about them, think they would be fun shooters BUT WOWZY WOW WOW WOW, try to find one in the 200 dollar range (can buy a brand new 22 mag Ruger for that)! Suckers are selling for 4 bills and that is WAYYYY to much dollar for the fun we would have with one... WOWZY can I .. Sorry Sly,, guns is like motorcycles around this house..
  9. Heyyyyy,,, look what da cat dragged in!! HI YA NEAL!! All the running around we be doing I almost missed this! Looks/sounds like all is well with my California brother!! Still getting spoiled by that new best friend neighbor of yours I see!! GOOD ON YA - nobody deserves it more!! Tip is well as am I! We both send our love and HUGE pair of 's!! Love ya! Puc
  10. Here's the tube extender taking Tip's FX4 out to 8 rounds (7 in the tube and 1 in the pipe). I haven't grabbed one for her yet cause I figure if she cant hit a clay pigeon with 5 try's of 1 1/8th ounces of 7 1/2 shot hitting the sky at 1250 fps a couple more bangs aint gonna help her much.. Here's the extender Case:https://fedarm.com/product/fx3_fx4_mag_extension/ ,,, only 28 bucks,, maybe I will get it for her for Mothers Day
  11. After taking my new ar15 out and running 50 rounds of ammo thru it, we decided that the AR platform did not fit her well (she needed the angular comb of the traditional shotgun but still LOVED the pistol grip design of the AR!). I actually planned on getting video of this TuffTom but, in the excitement of it all I forgot my camera. I PROMISE I will video a clay busting extravaganza in the very near future of both my AR15/FR98 and her FX4 in action! With the shooting experience under our belts of having shot the AR, we looked at several options (over unders, side by sides and so on), then I went to back to Gunbroker and came out of auction with this sweet little semi auto 12 for a measly 116 bucks!! We excitedly look forward to getting back out as a shooting team in the very near future (as soon as this -0 weather departs western Michigan!). @videoarizona, at the time of this writing 1/26/2019, I am still waiting for upper receiver parts for the 556/223 Wylde chambered AR15 I am building. I did manage to give you a little about the build in this vid though!! It looks like, not including the dual feed drum mag that cost me 89 bucks, the total build is going to come in well under 300 bucks! As soon as the rest of the parts get in I will post a video of that completed build and also of it's field testing. WHAT A FUN WINTER!!
  12. and then there is always the alternative route Sailor!! Decisions Decisions Decision's!!
  13. Duey,,, Duey Duey Duey,,,,,, yah gotta STOP with this V-4 nonsense brother!! All this V-4 this and V-4 that is causing me to be neurotic or something... I know now that I was all wet about questioning Mom Yams build sheet on this new V-Twin by (from my perspective) cutting corners on such things as not using roller lifters and rockers cause it appears I was dead wrong on it causing issues (just finished watching one a couple of Long Haul Pauls videos on YouTube and WOW is he putting the bike thru its paces with NO issues to date) but I STILL have nightmares about what could have been. A real deal game changing 170 horse/140 ft pounds of torque, water cooled, shaft driven big bore V-4 BMW/Goldwing slayer right out of the package is what I am referring to.. Up to this point I been doing REALLY well at staying out of trouble and keeping clear of the clubs penalty box but,,, my friend Duey,, YOU gotta know that its threads like this that cause ol Puc to just go BEZERK :rasberry::moon:
  14. Tip and I pretty much knew at about my 1 year post op from my Cancer surgery. Although OVER JOYED with finally finding out what was causing the extreme tiredness that would over take me, we were warned by the Cancer people that due to my age, even with a good excerise program and watching what I eat that the need to drop everything and sleep may be with me for the rest of my life. We gave it one more shot last year with our annual tour to the west coast aboard Tweeksis and it just did not work. After stopping numerous times during ride time so I could sleep for an hour or so in a Burger King or stretched out under a tree in a parking lot, we decided to change directions and look seriously at other options. We looked at Miata's (I LOVE what Randy and Linda are all about!!) and Jeeps (FUNNEST CAGE I EVER HAD WAS MY 1974 CJ5) but they afforded no where to sleep internally, we looked at Motorhomes and trucks with trailers but those were way to civilized for our doings. While looking for answers on YouTube I noticed a youngsters video about "Prius Camping". A little more digging,, finding the AC in a hybrid works off the Battery, little more investigating and BAM - we ended up with a brand new left over 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Blue that we were able to drive off the lot for $18,754 cash. I can now sleep inside if I need to while Tip continues the journey if she wants to. The amazing little car gets a consistent 59mpg and more if I am careful PLUS, while camping in the desert heat of Yuma Az after really nice nights sleep for both Tip and I in a climate controlled environment out in the middle of nowhere (our speciality) we awoke to find out that the overnight AC cost us less than 1 gallon of fuel!! Life is good if ya make it be!! The end,,, nope,, take it back,, how about a whole new beginning!
  15. Mean while, back at da ranch.. Got my new shooter back together and ready to go. Gotta say that I was VERY impressed with the quality of the machine. I did some checking on the manufacturer of this cool little shooter BEFORE placing a bid on it and found out some interesting things about them. Probably due to my management background in manufacturing, one of the foremost things I found out about them was the fact that they are ISO 9000 certified - this clearly shows in the quality of this relatively inexpensive piece of shooting iron (it took some patience but I ended up winning this clay pigeon popper on a well known gun auction site for just over 200 bucks!!).
  16. But if I dont em, how will they know how well it works and who to come see when they want their diaphrams fixed brother? You KNOW as well as I do that these people dont fix their own bikes:witch_brew:!! You and I are gonna make a FORTUNE here!!! :guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2: Speaking about making a fortune,,, anyone heard from @Flyinfool? I haven't gotten my monthly cut of the WWW cash and WOWZY WOW WOW is it here!!! Thinking that lop eared prankster may have run off with the cash and left the White Washer turned on
  17. Oh,, and no VAz, this shotgun is NOT what I was referring to when building an "AR".. That story is linked to this story so you will have to be patient and wait to see the REAL build!!
  18. My friend and yours, our fellow club member @videoarizona must have noticed a comment I had made about building an AR so VAz sent me a PM asking me to explain. Those big ol of yours must have also been ringing LOUD ya lop eared varmint cause me and @Condor been yakkin up a storm about guns for EVER .. Anyway, my response to David's PM was a simple one that went something like this: "I think I will start a thread about it all to compete with your "Riding in sunshine while the rest of you are FREEZING thread" (which I TOTALLY have enjoyed following!!).. So,, lets get started!!
  19. While I still think Mom Yam may have made a huge profit margin mistake by trying to understand/compete toe to toe with Harley Davidson's marketing schematic (hard for any other manufacurer to figure out why HD has been such a HUGE seller when even the people at HD havent figured it out ) and I think they could have actually knocked the ball out of the park and realized some of those profit margins/ROI they were hoping for if they would have just read/listened to the clubs input found years ago in this thread :https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?102280-Let-the-discussion-begin&highlight=make+mine+fastest I do totally agree with what Casey is saying here though.. Case in point (no pun intended Casey ), it wasn't long ago that one of those "Palimino" RSTD's was for sale on Ebay and, as I recall, its bid was up to 8k when I noticed it and the reserve was not met. No idea what that 1 or 2 year bike sold for but I do know that its exclutivity DEFINITELY was a draw!! There are TONS of great deals out there on left over 18's (I have seen SVTC's for under 20 now) - perhaps this Just In Time Inventory idea will help clear the path for stabilization of sales and will help with future value..
  20. Anddd your part is on it's way Vickersguy !! I packed er up pretty good so those youngens tossin packages like footballs down at the post office dont squish it and cause issues . Hopefully it serves the purpose and makes that 83 of yours fly full dignity:usa: . I too have used LOTS and LOTS of YamaBond thru the years = GOOD STUFF. Matter of fact, besides it's normal application as a fantastic "gasket" material when rebuilding engines where no actual gasket is found between case halves and such, I also used to use YamaBond #5 for diaphram repairs on my 1st Gens very successfully and ran many many thousands of miles on them - that stuff is AWESOME and there should be a tube of it in every mechanics tool box as far as I am concerned. Now this E3000 that I refer to, well,, lets just say that from my experience with the stuff, it is YamaBond 5 on steroids x5!! The secret to using E6000 for applications like we are talking about here is (and again, this is just my opinion) is you gotta make sure you have a fresh tube and that its warm, not hot to touch but about equal to body temp when you go to use it. The stuff is not as runny as #5 BUT unless you do BUT = WOW is it amazingly resilient and does it ever maintain its flexibility. It also has more of an adhesiveness to it - especially when applied to rubber. WORKS GREAT for restoring cracked rubber intake manifolds too!! Here is a little video I put together for another good friend who asked about the stuff. Take a peek and see what you think! As far as what you choose to use,, that is entirely up to you as the part is no longer registered under my name .
  21. Sounds like you had a BLAST Red!! Gotta LOVE them bike shops!! Attaching a couple vids of cut away of the SVTC engine just for your enjoyment. Here also are a couple pictures of what we frostbitten (thanks Flyinfool) trapped folks over on the westside do with our spare time while its wayyy to cold to Venture down to the bike shop like you did!! It's never to cold to build AR15's or enjoy getting ready for shooting clays with the Christmas present I got Tip !!!
  22. Well,, I got good news and I got bad news,,, which cha want first Vic .. Ok, first the good news,,, all ya gotta do is look at the pics below to get this news . Now for the bad,,, in this very very unusual case,, a picture is NOT worth a thousand words.. The scoop is is that, being tired, worn out and geezerly (seems to be a common issue around my place) those parts bikes of mine have seen better days - especially little rubber parts like we are talking about.. Something tells me that their owner should probably have spent more time detailing his bike then he did out CTFW on them.. I even checked my current 83 rider and found that one of them was nothing but pieces barely hanging on and it crumbled in my hand. The one on the other side did look to be in better shape so I tapped Tweeksis (thats our bikes name) on the headlight and asked if she'ld like some help with correcting that "out of balance look" that was now plaguing her. She gave the nod so I reached down and pulled off that little remaining cover off and that is the one in the picture. Upon close inspection of this one though I noticed it too has hairline cracking going across it in a couple places - enough so that I am POSITIVE that if a person squeezed it - it too would come apart - it is DEFINITELY an original piece!!! Personally,, when it comes to these good old 1st Gens,, my love for them revolves around the fact that they take a licken and keep on ticken and not so much on the cosmetic detail side of the equation. Being an old scoot/chop builder at heart though , I am no stranger to detail work and I asked myself if I were in your shoes, would I be able to use the piece. It didnt take long for - ohhhh heck ya - to pop in there. What I would do is I would take it and carefully clean it really really well inside and out with good spray carb cleaner sprayed onto a swab. I would pay extra careful attention to the interior of the cover and all the little edges in there. Then I would go down to the Dollar Store and grab a tube of "E6000". I have used LOTS of E6 over the years for fixing everything from Carb diaphrams to 3 inch holes punched in my side bags from having to roll the bike over to upright it on a mountain side out in Utah. THE STUFF IS AMAZING!! With the little cover clean and dry inside and out I would carefully swap on a real nice layer of E6 into the internal wall and end cap inside the cover, then I would let that dry.. Then I may or may not, squeeze the cover a little and fill in the cracks and then wipe the exterior of the cover back down = good as new!!! If any of that sounds doable to you, send me a name and address and I will stick the little cover in a small protective box and send it to ya free of charge. If all this sounds crazy and like wayyyyyyy to much trouble, just pass on it and I will keep my eyes open for a nicer one for you!!
  23. Back at cha brother,,, like all normal folks and lop eared's around here, sometimes my opinions cause issues and I end up in the Penalty Box but then there are the other times .. Your welcome! I got some kibble and bit pieces and parts laying around here,,, ok,, 3 bikes worth (all missin stuff though,, I got "friends" you know ) that I can actually see peering at me from under their covers out by my tent garage.. It's a little nippy outside right now so it may take a second but I will slip on my carharts and take a meander out there and see if one of those little covers happen to be still be hanging on for dear life.. Before I do though,,, is it just ONE that you need?
  24. Yea but I think HD still specs 50 is cause they are still running air cooled and they run a lot hotter than a water cooled. I know my Harley's would thin out a 50 to water like flow right quick. Even the few Twin Cams I had would do it.. Of course, they were bigger engines (which I think added to the heat) than the earlier 74 inch Shovels I owned/rode which has to add to engine tempts.. I just thought it odd and potentially an issue when I noticed the non-rollers on the Yams,,, but what do I know... Yep, my 1st Gens have all been warm blooded too VAz and liked to be de-choked right away. Matter of fact, dont know if you have found this but with the small "D" plugs that dont take to kindly to being blackened AT ALL,, I found I can make a set of plug last a longgg time just by getting that choke off as soon as she takes throttle.. Odd that you notice the difference on the 2nd Gen.. Perhaps the run circuits are leaner for EPA stuff... Maybe why they are so much slower too :stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::rasberry::rasberry:.. ,, THERE,, that will teach cha to come on here with your winter time ride stories while the rest of us are hibernatin,, ya lop eared desert riding varmint!
