First LONG ride on my Venture
sarges46 replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Lets see if we can help you spend some of your money! Vented windshield sure goes a long way get air moving, even if its hot air. Also you can get lower vent thingys (dang I cant remember the name) that mount on your crash bar, they are great for moving air around the feet. I wobble like a weeble at that last few feet as well if I use my front brake...always have with any of my bikes. Must be that cause if I use just the rear one for the last bit I glide nice and smooth to a stop...well sort of. -
How far a day traveling 2 up with camping gear?
sarges46 replied to 1joeranger's topic in Watering Hole
We have travelled a fair bit with the kids. Daughter rides with Mom and our son rides with me. I pull the camper she has the cargo trailer with the stuff and two tents for the kids. We dont start early..9 ish if we are lucky. Ride some and then get a breakfast. Ride some more stopping along the way to give the kids a break. We have done 600 mile days with them but by then we are into a motel...too beat to set up. We normally try and stop early enough to set up in day light. Eat...light fire have some refreshments. Play some cards maybe have a swim if there is a pool or lake. Enjoy the down time. I do not like trying to find a camp ground nor set up in the dark. That is no fun at all. -
Stranded in Lake City Tenn
sarges46 replied to greyghost's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Grey ghost....dont chance it! Get a tire there and then you will have the peace of mind. Also it will cost you at least half of what you will pay back home. And you shouldnt have to pay or include it with you declaration as this was a neccessary repair to get you home. Take a pic of your old tire to show those border guys. -
You try and force him not to say "eh" eh.

While driving back to Canada
sarges46 replied to E-Fishin-C's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Gord the fella that owns my first 2nd gen was having troubles with his cruise it started like that. It turned out to be the little spring in the switch got turned somehow. They just opened it up and put that spring back into place and all was well. It was the cancel button switch. -
We have Xm and Marilyns boy has sirrius. The reception is betting with his (sirrius). It was mentioned about the higher sats so that must be it. I have no complaints about mine and it seldom cuts out...just downtown when the buildings get in the way. Marilyn has the myfi portable. She is having trouble with it on the bike the antenea plug keeps falling out. She will be switching over to a sirrius car unit very soon specifically because of the better reception.

Well at least she is on the way to recovery! Suck it man and take it.

All of the pics are great Gary! I have to suspect that Mary looks much happier with her feet on the ground or on the bike?\\ What a great adventure.

sarges46 replied to Al Bates's topic in Picture Folder
Pic 29 should be especially popular with the ladies! Thanks for posting those Al they were great to view. Gonna make it to one of these one day. Perhaps once the kids dont need us around for school things. Hey....wait a minute.....did you skip school Dave?! -

With my 1st gen and with the wife travelling with me this is how we did it. She had one saddle bag and me the other. Tools and rags etc. in the trunk and a sleeping bag on the rack. When she got her own bike we had a larger bag I put our into and put it on the seat....it doubled as a back rest. I try to keep the weight to the recommended level of 20 lbs and no more.

From one old gunner to another....have fun with the ears! I cant wear mine while riding as the noise is too much for me. But it is nice to hear again. Fired a few indirect fire missions myself in my day. Grafenwohr Germany, Fort Lewis Washington, plus all the Canadian ranges.

Chrome fairing grill removal
sarges46 replied to majkongb52's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Its a 88 silvt. And if those are chrome intakes at the front of the fairing you have a little cash coming. Those are like gold to the 1st genners! Careful not to mess em up too much. I am sure you could get a decent price for them on this site. -
Deer are my worst fear while on the bike. Not so much when in the cage. They are a matter of life here in rural Manitoba. I will not drive the bike at night because of way too many close calls over the last few years. We are glad you encounter wasnt worse.

Front Wheel Removal questions
sarges46 replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
And dont strip the caliper bolts! Dont ask but I've been working for two days trying to get a striped one out. The dealer previous used a air gun on the thing. After striping the one I borrowed a friends airhammer gun thing and the others came off real easy. -
