Hey eveyone Duck again When i picked my bike up the front headlight bright didnt work then the whole light went out i got a new bulb and it works fine on low now but sometimes when riding around the white light flashes like it has a problem and the little light on the dash that looks like a light sitting near the gas gauge is always on so i tried flicking the high beam on and it still doesnt work. I dont know much about wiring but i know someone over the years took all the wires wiped there a$$ with them and put them back in backwards (the wires are all messed up and covered with tape and cut in places I want to try and get the high beam working again any thoughts I see the fuses are all good under the the false tank but behind the light i see all the little boxes i think they are called relays but not sure how to check those and how much are they to replace if i have to just randomly replace some Thanks guys

It is running just fine again fuel filter getting fuel and the bike idels just fine for as long as i want in the garage i can rev it up and everything is fine Im not sure lol i dont want to ride it far because i dont want to get stuck again this is so weird i dont know whats going on lol i am wondering if it is dirty carbs But i notice the screws that you guys said loosen to see if there was fuel they are kinda wet on the outside and they are as tight as they will go but the screws are kinda messed up i know it will need work over time but im trying to get to school first and fix the bike there so i want to make it safe to ride my trip does this sound like a big problem?
-
i had the same problem on my 05 ninja 2 hoses were crossed coming from the tank and it wouldnt let gas flow and the bike would die same as this lol drive for miles and miles then bam die
-
So i got the bike back to the house and i started pulling the panels off to get a better look at everything and i spayed carb cleaner righ tinto the carbs and it fired up. I left it running for a bit and noticed the fuel filter running out of gas. I ws told that after rifing for ahwhile and with having a gas tank the way it is my vacuum lines could be wrong or unhooked i have a vacuum gauge on the bike that doesnt work it has one line coming out of the gauge and it is going into the right front cylinder and there are no other lines from the gauge to the tank or anything Then after pulling the body panels off i found a hose just laying there it has a small what looks like filter on it but the line seems dry so must have been off for awhile i am wondering if this is my vacuum line and if anyone has a diagram of how the lines run i hope this is the problem cause the carbs get fuel to them but only for awhile then it stops
-
I will open it up tomorrow i cant go get the bike tonight so i have to wait till morning to get it home
-
i have already filled it up with new gas cleaned out the crap in the tank and filter i put seafoam init already but i havent looked at the line from the pump to the carb. i do not want to take the carbs apart at all i am not there yet. I will check the plugs and the line going from the pump to the carbs
-
can the fuel pump be working but maybe clogged or not working the way it should like it turns on but wont keep up?
-
yea no problem starting up and battery holds a charge and charges no problem. I didn tjust hook the radio up last night but i dont think that would do it after i rode it for that long would it? It still trys to start battery wise no problem
-
So the bike died again Not to sure what did it this time. The fuel filter is still full and clean and the bike is getting fuel from the tank to the pump. The pump turns on and i watch it pull fuel from the filter so i dont think its the pump.I rode it for 50 miles then parked it at the house started it right up and it went just fine.I took it onto a island i live near to do a lap around the road is about 10 miles went not even 5 miles and it acted like it ran out of fuel again and wouldnt start back up not with choke and didnt even sound like it wanted to fire after the first few seconds of trying it would crank just fine just not give me a trying to fire sound you guys know right? lol Reason 1. Maybe lost spark now i tested it with a plug i had with me it sparked so maybe bad plugs in the bike now? Reason 2. dirty carbs Maybe something made its way thru the pump and into the carbs. Reason 3.The carbs arent setup matching maybe they need to be matched Reason 4.When it gets warm ( i took it for the long ride didnt have a problem let it cool then took it out again then had a problem after riding a bit and getting to temp) I loose spark due to the CDI? I do not know much about this little thing but i heard it can have a effect on the bike running at temp. So im lost LOL gonna go down tonight and try to pick the bike up its at a resort in the parking lot nice and safe. Iff i cant get it to start and baby her back home ill call a tow truck and pray i can get her running again tomorrow lol. I have till june 3rd to get this thing running to the point i can take it on my 3-4 hour drives. If you guys have any tips that would be awesome i dont want to pull the carbs apart so im trying to avoid that till the last thing because i know it can be a job and a half. Ill be doing alot of today so ill be online allday LOL

need help with 83 venture
Duck replied to noel cassidy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Have you been able to look in to the problem more? If it seems like fuel start cheap and work your way to more money start with plugs in lines and filters. Then start replacing any of those that are messed up.then from there go to carbs or the more intense expensive stuff. I would try pulling the fuel filter off turning it around and blowing it out see if anything comes out if there is anytihng replace it and take it for a ride if it does it again check the inside of the petcock for a plug and blow it out. thats the basic stuff to start with for fuel -
How about a waterpump project kit?
Duck replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Is this something that would work on a 83 For like a extra in case kinda thing lol i dont know what my bike might need one day -
yea mine is missing that little screen. I will have to pick one up but i am a student a stay at home dad and on a budget LOL i went back into the tank with the sending unit off and pulled all that crap out with a magnet it looks all gone maybe some went down in to the line but the fuel filter will pick that up.i am going to keep my eye on how much fuel runs into the filter i can watch how much fuel is in the filter and if it starts to empty in anyway i know i have a problem. (Duck tip #1 always keep roadside assistance on your bike so you can get it towed if something stupid like that kills your trip) I took it for its longest ride today and it did great didnt die once.I am going to try and upload some pics but i am a new member so i dont know if it will let me
-
so i pulled off the fuel sending unit and looked inside And it didnt look to bad. There is a couple small patches that have some rust but nothing that looks crazy or like its a hole. I got alot of crap out of the fuel filter and the new one is nice and clean. But there is a small flake of metal sitting at the bottom of the tank near the petcock. I need to replace the petcock because it is broken on the out side and the pick up inside doesnt seem to have much going on with it like no sreen or anything around it. I think that this small flake will be a problem can i just stick a long magnet in there and pull her out? also to replace that petcock do i have to pull the tank. My problem is the frame rail under the tank gets in the way and the bolts are not bolts they are screws.i am thinking about just getting a 90 deg drive tool because pulling the tank seems like so much work on this bike. any tips on how to get that off would be awesome it is driving my crazy LOL i would have already changed the thing out
-
Thats what i had to do,The locks were being stupid so i had to take the bolts off and remove the bags that way got to get to the tank and set those aside. So the fuel filter was not getting enough fuel, the fuel coming from the tank to the petcock was slow almost to a drip.I was looking and i thought it would be very hard to take the tank off to get to the petcock ( i dont have a 90 deg drive tool to get to the screws on the petcock)So i took some fuel line and put it on the petcock and blew my heart out to try and get a plug if there was one out. That seemed to work because fuel started pouring out.I then hooked the fuel filter back up (took a small break because i then got fuel in my eye not wearing my safety glass stupid me)and it filled right up all the way.I then started the bike and it stayed full ( the gas gauge that didnt work now works as well? lol) i havent taken it for a ride because My son is only 18 months so i cant leave him alone LOL (he helps me work on my bike) so when i get a chance ill be taking it up the hill i live on (I learned not to go down hill because even thow they will tow your vehical twice in one day with roadside it seems weird)that way i can coast down and get her home if anything happens. If all is good i will post and also go to bike night maybe and let you guys know how it went. P.S. Any spelling errors i am sorry i either missed the correction or you know what i really didnt know how to spell that simple word sorry

Hi everyone Name is Duck and i am going to be a MMI student coming up this year. I just bought a 83 venture to make my 300 mile trips twice a week. Right now i am having a small problem with fuel delivery so i am taking the tank off to clean (I think I already know the problem dirty gas tank and filled the fuel filter witch starved the carbs thanks to this site ...) So i am having a problem getting the seat off and the rear bags Is there a easy way to take the bags off mine look like they have a key lock in the front and thats the only thing but i cant seem to unlock it. Also do i even have to take those bags off for the seat to come off it looks like it does due to 2 bolts holing the seat on Thanks guys

need help with 83 venture
Duck replied to noel cassidy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have the same bike 83 and it is doing the same thing. It will run just fine and fire first thing but after i start riding it dies and wont fire back up it will idle in my garage for how ever long i keep it in there it will get to running temp i can crank the gas and it doesnt die, But when i take it up or down the street when i go to down shift or even just slow down the bike dies and odesnt want to fire unless i choke it then i am unable to release the choke for a long time and try to baby it back to were it will run with no choke in the garage just fine. I am going to look into the fuel lines right now and fuel filter thats what i start with in these problems because its the easiest to fix. Let me know if you find anything out i will be following this and working on my bike as well
