Anyone have "little known secrets" about 2nd Gen

In a different thread we were told it is just personal choice. The switch to reserve is really just pulling from lower in the tank - an NO it doesn't HELP the sediment in the tank to drain from the bottom all the time because the bike is bouncing around the sediment all the time as you ride anyway. -

It does qualify. Anything qualifies. I don't do "local" riding so all my gas stops are planned and stretched as far as possible. . If I run into headwinds or driving too fast and use too much gas I want to have positive control of the information, I see the reserve light come on and I start calculating if I will or won't make my planned stop. - if not- I don't worry as I carry 2 liters of gas with me for just such eventualities. In my old Honda Spirit with no gas gauge, it simple started fuel starvation bucking and slowing. It was the only way I would now to switch to reserve. If I was getting close to reserve and IN traffic, i would switch to reserve before needing to so I wouldn't have a truck eat me up. Also- note for this thread: When I switch to reserve, I swing open the gas cap key cover. When I stop for gas which could be 30 to 45 minutes later it reminds me to move the gas lever back to main. See barracuda that is good info for newbies. Some want faster and some want better mileage like me on the Midnight Venture. -
Good on ya! That must have been a fantastic trip. I am looking forward to an Alaska ride but on an Adventure bike, not my RSV. VentureFar...

I was hoping it was a place the previous owner stached his cash and forgot about. .... -
I just checked with a motel owner a the entrance to Guanella pass road in Grant co. He said that the unpaved area is very hard pack and well groomed. Said they just laid magnesium "something" down to bind the dirt. The other area is very old pave and just just marred with pot holes. I am now cool with the road. Great responses from everyone. Oh- the motel operator said " I hope you are not riding a Harley" said if you get a rock in the belt drive you are out of luck. Ha ha not me! But my riding partner will be. Wonder if I will have to ride two up to get him out of there :-) Thanks all. VentureFar...

Ha, figured this one out on the road about a week ago - if she does get on first - as she is so clumsy getting on behind me, I ask her to lean right - that takes the weight off - if the ground is level -if overly leaning left then me first then her 2nd. -

Clock - 2nd gen - have to press SELECT and RESET at the same time to get the clock. Wow - cool, but mine is way off. How do I set the clock? ? unplug the battery right at midnight Figured it out. Select to get clock. Select and reset to get flashing hour, press reset to get to correct hour. Then press select to change to minutes - use reset to change minutes - then select to end. -

Seat comes UP and off when you take off the two nuts. The reason you have a different nut on one side is one fell off. Rick Butler makes some special hand nuts that make taking your seat on and off much easier - just $9. worth it! Don't know about the Passing lamp switch - what is that about? -

These are great! Keep it up. I am learning - clock? who knew What size fuse ( for compressor) and is the drain to much or is there a time limit since small compressors take a long time to fill a tire ? left side of bike below riders seat is a round plastic cover. Take that off and you can install an accessory (cigarette lighter) outlet (wired with fuse to battery is great for using a compressor) -
I just discovered, thanks to friends on the this forum, that I can fold down the antennas to put a cover on. Took me till my third week of ownership to see the pull to talk switch for the CB ( don't use it but didn't know it was there ). How to get that warning sticker off the gas tank -? Thanks again to this forum - hairdryer and fingernails with goo gone. Like - what is the plastic box held on with rubber bands under my Trunk? Like - anyone rewire the CB trigger switch to open their garage door? Like - Mikewa told me - let the wife get on the bike while it is on the KickStand What do you know that some of the rest of us new to 2nd Gen don't know? Thanks all! PS- nothing is "too obvious".

Need light weight outdoor cover for 2nd Gen RSV

Bought the Bilt at Cycle Gear on sale $19.95. Haven't figured out how to get the antennas under it yet. How much can they bend? -
Like I said I have ridden "dirt" on my 565 pound spirit. Actually the longed was close to 50 miles of dirt road. Also road it into trona pinnacles which was 5 inches of sand over hard pack and I rode through the entire unpaved road of monument valley. That had off camber turns on sandy hard pack and I almost dropped it several times.....but didn't. I have a feeling I will opt for the uphill direction of the unpaved section. Much more control going up hill on iffy ground than down hill. You all are great help. Thanks. VentureFar...

Excellent tip. I used that in the turns on dirt with the previous street bike and when dirt bike riding. I think I am realizing I am more concerned about stopping with poor footing, and dropping the bike. I don't think I will have a problem in motion. I will have about 2000 miles on new rubber, Metz 888 on the front and metz 880 on the back when I take on ( or don't take on ) the 3 miles of no pavement. I can hear the reply now -" then don't stop"- sort of like - Doctor it only hurts when I do "this" - .....so don't do "that" ..... VentureFar...
