Are you sure the tabs on the chrome piece are not broken? That seems to be the only issue with the chrome piece not "locking" in. VentureFar...

air suspension readings
VentureFar replied to orlean1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Question about "why" air pressure at all? If the factory says zero psi front and rear, why did they put in air shocks with valves? What do you feel differently if the rear is at 40 and the front at 7 vrs Zero all around. Thanks all VentureFar... -
Shuttlebug - it is your lucky day. I am in Granada Hills, One RSV 'Bob' is in Valencia and another 'Bob' is in Chino Hills. We can have a foursome for a lunch ride soon ! VentureFar...

I have been to the Rally 6 out of the last 7 years. Not going this year. Wife has other plans for MY vacation this year. Everything written above is awesome info. No mention of the caves - some of the best caves in the world are around Sturgis. If you are only going to go to one cave, I suggest Jewel Cave but I have been to many and they are all interesting. I didn't see you write how many days you are planning to stay in Sturgis. Northwest is one day ( devils tower, spearfish cyn etc), East is one day - Badlands, SD Air and Space Museum at Ellsworth AFB, wall drug etc. South is really two days - lots down that way. Great concerts if you like the band playing at Buffalo Chip - watched ZZ Top two times sitting comfortably on my bike about 100 ft from the stage. Full Throttle Saloon - fun nighttime hangout- don't go for their buffet breakfast ! ....you will notice bikers stop waiving to each other about 100 miles from Sturgis- you are no longer greeting a fellow "lone traveler", you are now one of 500,000 bikers. I suggest you get gas anytime you see an open pump and try to eat at "off hours" due to the crowds. Early breakfast, 11 lunch, 5 dinner etc. Always, always carry rain gear. On the bike and when you are hanging out - use a backpack and carry a quick poncho and a sturdy umbrella. There are places to swim so have a small towel and proper attire on the bike - it can be 110 F or 50F so be prepared for all. Are you bypassing Yellowstone? At minimum enter the north entrance and exit through Cooke City - maybe spend the night in Cooke City but book now. Then leave over Beartooth Hwy or capture the two greatest scenic rides and exit Yellowstone through CODY WY - go to the rodeo in the evening and get an early start out north bound over Chief Joseph Highway then it T's into Beartooth and make a right over Beartooth. Sooooo much to see. You will have an epic journey.

No, actually not a bug on it as it was too cold for California bugs, must have been about 50 degrees on the evening portion of the ride...oops did it again. Back to the thread, I am not yet saying I am coming but I did book the Motel6 and I did 'tell' the wife to find another date for Friday night June 20 as I might be at the RSV rally - hmmm, didn't seem to bother her:confused24: VentureFar...

Hi all, Great response. I am a 9/10 of my 3rd Iron Butt away in Los Angeles. I wasn't planning on taking time off work for a ride this year - usually do Sturgis but wife has other plans for my vacation this year. But, there are so many of "us" coming that I feel I would really miss out if I didn't join in. Can't commit yet due to other issues but I am definitely leaning in the right direction. VentureFar...

Two So Cal members meet up - leveling links
VentureFar replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
Absolutely, I Am less than 10 minutes from you. See my PM. VentureFar... -
VentureFar... and Beastwood met up today for a little meet and greet and leveling links install. Several months ago VentureFar ( me ) installed the leveling links on my Midnight RSV in about 20 minutes and was very pleased with the results. Beastwood mentioned that he wanted some help doing the install so we finally arranged a time to meet and get to work. Although my first install only took 20 minutes to complete, of course it took over an hour with all kinds of small things hampering our progress - like my craftsman ratchet decided to stop working after all the times I beat on it - oh maybe that is a bad thing -- and we needed to jack the bike up an additional 1/8 inch to get the top bolt in. Nothing major, just little things but in the end no one wrapped their knuckles and no threads were stripped. All in all a good experience! ( at least from my side ) - I don't think Beastwood was too worried about my amateur wrenching. Here is a photo my wife took just as Beastwood ( on the left ) was ready to head home with the "power steering" modification. The other tip is of you are running battery devices like Bluetooth make sure you have a backup or charger as they only last 8-10-12 hours not 17+. VentureFar...

In sept 2010 I took a week and ride from La up 395 thru Tahoe, Shasta etc up to see Mount St Helen's then back down the east side and to Reno for the air races. Nice week !!! You are correct. From redding north is where all the scenery is. Stopped in at voodoo donuts in Portland for a laugh and sugar rush. VentureFar...

It is just 1000 miles. What do you have to tweak on the RSV? They are rock solid, aren't they? VentureFar...

Christmas Day (last week) i left Baltimore md to drive my aunt's BMW car to Los Angeles. That was 2700 miles in 56 hours. I love my RSV but there is no way I could have done that on the bike. I only did this second IB because I really want the Mile Eater T shirt that you can only buy if you have done 2 IBA events. No "rally's for me. I enjoy 500 to 800 mile days but adding the last 200 miles seems to stretch my comfort/ enjoyment limits. VentureFar...

Wow, that is a tough day. I wouldn't want to be in the saddle for 17 hours and have most of it in the rain. Night is hard enough but worry about hydroplaning is serious food for thought. VentureFar...

Yes it is. Actually on the way home after dark it was 0C in places and I had hand warmers in my warmest gloves - and every bit of warm gear I own was on me. it is 71F and clear blue skies in Los Angeles Today - watch the Rose Parade :-) VentureFar...

Make sure to build up to it. Mostly gas stop to gas stop. 200 miles at a sitting. If you are like me, you will need to take more breaks at the end side of the ride. Also the first one we left at 3 am. That totally messed with my sleep schedule. This time I got a good night rest and left at 7 am - which is normal timing and got home at midnight - which again is about normal. This ride was easier from that point of view because it was "on my normal schedule " Oh and try not to go with a Harley rider. They tend to break down and cost you 2 hours - ---did I say that out loud? Oops. VentureFar...

You know it is NOT the butt - ( thanks to Rick Butler) - for me it is hardest riding 75mph at night for 7 hours. -- and 2 5hour energy's -- is that cheating? I have good light but the concentration at night is so much more taxing. I wouldn't have considered IB on my Honda Shadow 1100 Spirit - did 876 one very special day but that was IT. VentureFar...

I really want the "Mile Eater" shirt from the Iron Butt Assoc and to get it you need to have accomplished 2 events. So yesterday I took off for my 2nd SS1000 at 7am from Los Angeles and Road 8 hours to Redding CA. Turned around and took 9 hours to get back. 17 hours and 1026 actual Miles ( odometer showed 1064 ). I didn't expect it to be so cold but I did plan for that and took all my cold gear so the worst was feeling cold but NOT teeth chattering. I wanted to make it up to the turn around point as soon as possible so I carried a two gallon gas can that I used on the side of the Freeway. So I made it 513 miles up with only 1 gas station stop - two freeway stops. I don't know how many more IB's I have in me - it is a cool accomplishment but a really LONG day in the saddle - especially in winter when the days are so short. So much more concentration required to ride in the dark. Anyone else done 2 or more ? Again Kudo's to Rick Butler for making my RSV saddle so comfortable that I never felt my "rear". Happy New Year all, VentureFar...

I am running the stock bulb on my 2007 RSV and using two of these to make the night into day. At 70 mph in the dark I can see far enough ahead to stop comfortably- don't outrun your headlights - http://www.visionxwholesale.com/black-optimus-led-20-degree-light-kit-two-lights-and-an-install-kit-xil-op120kit/ I have measured the distance they light up an object in the street - 600 feet ! I have them mounted up high on angle braces off the mirror stocks. I have the right one fixed and the left loose enough to adjust as needed. VentureFar...
