Thanks Red Rider. Will the gas spill from the lines when taken off the pump? VentureFar...

Ordered the points. Will arrive in a week. Does the pump actually need to be off the bike? It looks like it is all done from the top- installed. Thoughts?? Thanks VentureFar...

I am wearing the shirt. We were going to take an artsy fartsy photo of the bike and the Mile Eater shirt it earned, at the beach, but we didn't make it. It fits great- you should see it :-) VentureFar...

Sorry cowpuc I was riding to the beach with the wife in 85 degree weather wearing my new IronButt Mile Eater shirt and zzzzzzzz in the fast lane I have no power and pull to left as there was too much traffic to my right to cut across 3 lanes with no powe. Not a good place to stop. Cranking it would almost catch but wouldn't. I took off the side cover and smacked the fuel pump. One long crank later and it fired up. We opted to ride home and park it. That sounds like fuel pump right ?? 2007 RSV with 15k miles. It stuck once before - this summer after my 1st Iron Butt bike wouldn't start. Didn't hear anything from the fuel pump. - no click- and banged it and bike started. No problem from June to now. Fuel pump?? Thanks all VentureFar...

If your bike doesn't "hurt" you then all that is left to doing an Iron Butt is being able to keep your attention and concentration for 17plus hours. The second one I rode at 5 over during the daylight and speed limit for the 7 hours of darkness. I had a tank bag with all my food and snacks, a liter of water at hand and a cool day - requiring less water intake and the possibility of unplanned "pit " stops. I also carried a two gallon gas can and used it to add distance without having to pull off the freeway (two times) so I could do only one gas station stop for 510 miles. Iron Butt was on my bucket list also but now that I have done it, it really turned out to be mind over matter. The second really was just a long day in the saddle. I can see doing it again "just cause". Uh oh. I sound addicted- nah I could quit anytime but I don't choose too... VentureFar... -
The Mile Eater logo Tshirt from the Iron Butt Assoc caught my eye but I needed 2 completed qualifying events to be eligible to order it. No problem on my Rick Butler modified seat! Hop on at 7am and hop off at midnight with 1000 miles in between and voila, T shirt eligible. I emailed Mike Kneebone, President of IBA today ad he told me he sign my cert a few days ago. I guess it is the small things that make my day lately. I have done two 1000's so far and would love to share do's and don'ts on this thread. Anyone want to share their IBA experiences? VentureFar...

Condor, I was only planning on riding about 3 hours on tuesday after work and then the rest of the way Wednesday. That can actually work to meet up in Dunnigan at 7am. 250 miles Tuesday - spend the night at the 5/ 152 then leave at 4:30am to meet you (all) at 7am and cause the San Andreas Fault to crack as so many RS xx's ride north together. More as we get closer VentureFar...

Had it done about 10 years ago. It totally amazed me that lifting anything heavier than a loaf of bread caused pain, but it passed. It was embarrassing to ask the 17 year old "box girl" at the market to bring my groceries to the car....that was the worst. It healed soon enough. Catch up on your reading the Iron Butt magazines.. Feel better, VentureFar...

Eck - What about doing your trip in reverse order? Instead of sight seeing on the way WEST, make a B-line more southerly for Portland and then sightsee starting a week later in the summer on the way BACK? VentureFar...

California smog requirements
VentureFar replied to RWITT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Beastwood is correct. I know this law well.if a California resident purhases an out of state bike OR car it must have 7500 miles on the odometer AT THE TIME of PURCHASE. If you are an Arizona resident who bought the bike in Arizona and are moving to California then the law does not apply to you. You cannot modify a vehicle to make it become a California vehicle. They check the serial number not the components. If you are a ca resident and bought a 5000 mile bike (bill of sale says so) then run it up to 7510 miles and show up at the DMV at 4:45 pm on a Friday and PRAY the let you slide. They did for me. Pm me if you want to talk about it VentureFar... -
VentureFar and wife AWSMSRV Shuttlebug and wife and Beastwood met near Magic Mountain for a lunch ride to Santa Barbara on Saturday ( January 18 2014 ). We all had a good time getting to know one another and sharing upgrades and mods to our RSVs Beastwood had a little GPS fun but eventually stopped sight seeing and met up with the rest of us at the starting point. We rode as a pack ( pretty spread out due to varying comfort levels) and had lunch on the Santa Barbara Pier - in the sun - moving our chairs to try and get some shade ( put that in there for you Cowpuc ) After lunch we moved the bikes in a line and of course we were blocking the one car that was ready to leave. Shuttlebug convinced the driver to not only wait for us to take a few photos but also TAKE the photos for us. Quite the smooth talker! The good Samaritan wasn't a good photographer and the sun was shining on the LCD ( again for Cowpuc) so he didn't exactly line things up right. So here are two shots that get all the participants without helmets on and then a shot that gets the 4 RSVs. First photo is all of us: Left to right AWSMSRV, Deb with Shuttlebug, VentureFar with Ellen and Beastwood. ( notice us all wearing our Mesh - put that in for Cowpuc http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/161_zps02e154b7.jpg Next is same line up but Shuttlebug has his helmet on but got all 4 RSV's in the shot http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/166_zpsf0cccb23.jpg

air suspension readings

So does 7# in the front and 40# in the rear - solo - raise the bike or just not allow as much compression - sort of air "preload" ? Thanks VentureFar... -

I use Brosh http://www.brosh.com/ jeans from Israel. have 3 pairs and have been alternating them for 10 years - none show signs of wear yet. Total of 90,000 street miles over the 10 years. Even though they are in Israel they are easy to do business with. I had a friend that ordered a pair that were too big and the exchange was a breeze. The will put Kevlar into YOUR jeans for you. Best of both worlds! I highly recommend Brosh. VentureFar...

Awesome! I think right now my plan is to leave LA Tuesday at 5pm. ride 300 miles and overnight at a motel. Then the rest on Wed. It is 995 from my house but iron butt'ing it would get me in at midnight and the ride from north of Sacramento is scenic.
