I have 10k miles in 9 months on my baggershield. 2 iron butts also. I love it. Period. Use it low most of the time and only up in the cold or rain. I am 5'11 and the freeway wind hits me four inches above my eyebrows. in my normal "slouch" my face shield stays open. If it sit up straight it slams shut. But I get very little buffet from it and none when flipped up. Wife likes the airflow with the top down "says it feels like she is on a motorcycle vrs the stock shield that kept the wind off of her. Baggershield gives a discount to forum members. Remember to ask for it. Make sure to keep the Wing nuts tight. If not they will vibrate lose and drop off along the freeway. It looks super cool and feels great in summer. VentureFar...

BINGO!!!! I just phoned North Hollywood Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and all kinds of other brands dealership that I have always trusted and purchased two bikes from. I spoke with the ServiceWriter. He said that as far as he is concerned the Points on the fuel pump are a regular maintenance item at 10,000 to 15,000 miles. check and clean and replace the points with the after market set as needed. ( obviously if the bike is in the shop they will recommend a pump replacement as they don't just do the points there) NO issues with the internal coils or over voltage of any other part of the system. JUST A WEAK DESIGN. He said that on advrider.com you can look up KTM 950 solid state fuel pump and on there somewhere there is info on a replacement POINTs set that is solid state. He also said that you can replace it with a vacuum pump if you are really paranoid. Since it is just one screw to pop the cap on the pump, I will check them every other oil change and replace with the aftermarket set as needed. I feel better now. How about you? VentureFar...

Just curious, what are you looking for in " testing in the rain". ? I have only used scorpion full face and now modular for 10 years and they don't leak ... VentureFar...

Here in California there is legislation heading for a vote to deal with "printing" of hand guns with no serial number. VentureFar...

You is speakin' the greek. Please translate with points of reference etc. Thanks VentureFar...

Theoretically speaking, if one was going to carry a spare set of points, that special someone could solder a pigtail wire onto the spare set and then simply do a twist and tape on the side of the road, thereby eliminating any necessity for roadside "soldering". I am still not convinced that 100% of the problem is the points. Aren't there moving parts inside the body? Can't they go bad too? VentureFar...

Dont have a tach but is 13.8V steady at my ear listening for about 3x idle I am not one for getting stuck on the side of the road. I think once I prove that the points replacement does work I will purchase an OEM pump and relegate the "fixed" one to a spare in my bag. VentureFar...

Don't know about the voltage as the bike is apart at this moment but I will check it. Thanks VentureFar...

I have the sena smh10. I use it solo with my iphone or with my wife. easy to switch between music and intercom and talk on the iphone if you need to. I haven't tried bike to bike yet but a good friend of mine does every weekend and especially riding as a pair, they have perfect audio for chat. He hasn't tried Three either. there is no interoperability between systems yet so you are on your own about that. Lasts about 10-12 hours on a charge but you can plug it in while riding. On my Iron butt days I bring my wife's unit along and swap out when mine dies. That's all I have for you. Sorry. VentureFar

To replace the fuel filter in my 07 RSV it took me over 45 minutes - 1/2 the time was trying to get a stupid backing nut on the white plastic tie down that is the whole reason the fuel filter takes so long in the first place. I have patience since I know I am NOT a wrench but come on. What lunatic hids a replaceable part so deep? And then to top it off my 92 year old Mother calls me with a computer question just at the moment of thread catch on that backing nut! Gotta help Mom and nicely and calmly too -then back to trying for another 10 minutes to get that backing nut on. Do you really have to take off all these pieces or did I do it wrong? 1. Seats - found I had lost both bolts holding the pillion - glad I did this little chore. 2. Side cover 3. fuel pump 4. other side cover 5. inner cover 6. battery - to get at the stupid backing nut they could have welded on. 7. the little vertical thing that is held in place by a white plastic tie that has a backing nut - that keeps the fuel filter from sliding out easily for replacement. Just to replace the fuel filter? Did I miss anything? Is there a simpler procedure? Not VentureFar... right now, more like down ForMaintenance... waiting on points set for the Fuel pump. THANK YOU VentureRider.ORG forum for teaching me all this good stuff! You all are the best - including my newest BFF Cowpuc !

Wanted everyone to see this as I feel it is a safety issue. This is a duplicate post of my other thread on my fuel pump going out ( sticking) Sunday on the freeway - very dangerous situation at 75mph in traffic and suddenly no power. Look at my points - they only have 15,000 miles on them. They can't even be called "points", more like 'hunks'. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/wornpointsventure_zps3cc5dd48.jpg

So I decide to do a little digging before my points show up. I open the cover of the fuel pump but before I can, I run into the tie wrap holding the power wire being too tight. I finally figured out how to loosen it - see photo. Next I finally take a close look at my "points". Even the untrained eye can see my points are SHOT and I only have 15,000 miles ! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/workingonfuelpump_zps13cc4808.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/wornpointsventure_zps3cc5dd48.jpg

on the points- I will take pix and document. Although there is a great video already linked to this thread. VentureFar...

Amen to that. With 2 iron butts and Sturgis 6x I am many times a long way from home and out of cell phone ( call AAA / AMA towing) service too. Thanks. Hopefully many will read this thread and jot down some notes. VentureFar...

Ok all makes sense. I am going to put on new points and see how that goes. I am not going to run it gravity feed. I am totally confident it was the fuel pump not pumping. Had it happen once in my driveway just pulling the bike into the garage and tapping on the points brought it back. Then same on the INSIDE shoulder of the fast lane yesterday and tapping on the points brought it back to life. Dang this bike slows quickly from 75mph with no power in gear- especially in the fast lane of a crowded freeway... VentureFar...

What exactly is the bypass- what tubes are needed etc? I can't find the exact thread on Gravity feed. Thanks Venture Far...

Not so much concerned with the fuel running out of the tubes as I am with the fire engulfing the my baby inside my garage :-) Thanks for the tip - I will run it dry before starting on it. VentureFar...hopefully farther with the fuel pump working. So what is the work around tubing if the pump goes out on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere? Thanks
