  1. I am on the road and can't readily in the dry weight of the 2nd gen RSV. Anyone know what it is? Between myself and the wife we add 370 pounds. Gas is another 36 and all the stuff I jam into the bags for "preparedness " adds another 10 ish. Ha ha is there a load rating 100 tire out there??? Thanks VentureFar... 2. I heard from all of you that the mc2 is a good tire so I decided to make a change from my old standard me880 rear that I put 79k on my 1100 spirit and now 9k on my 2007 RSV. I called the dealer I always buy my tires from. Mc tire in mission hills ca. They just sell tires. He told me immediately that it has a load rating of 74 and that is not the 80 required for my RSV. He had another. RSV owner who was cupping and called michelin who told him directly that the mc2 is not recommended for the RSV and take it off. Michelin actually recommended the Shinto tourmaster. So per the factory I am not putting the mc2 on. Also about narrow front the whole reason to put it on is to "lighten" the front end. So everything everyone is saying is correct. But I wanted a lighter front end to not get arm pump in 50-75 miles of continuous twisties and very tight parking lot u turns. I could almost ride hands off in heavy cross winds with the stock width but now have to have two hands on- not tight - just two since I switched. I couldn't be happier with the narrower front tire metz888 and of course leveling links- uh oh :-) VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I have been running Metz for 70k miles on my Honda spirit and now 9k on my RSV. I hit the wear bars and going to The Dalles for the forum event will be 2k round trip - so time to change. And I want to make a change, just so see the difference. After everything I have read I am going with the Michelin Commander 2. I won't be able to get them on till Friday or Sat but will ride report. I was hoping for more than 9k out of the rear ME880 but riding 2up about 40% of the 9000 I am sure is what reduced the mileage. fyi - no complaints at all about any of the Metz 880's I have had on both bikes, just want to try something different. http://www.allmotorcycletirereviews.com/Michelin_Commander_2.htm VentureFar...
  4. I rented a 2004 goldwing for a few days and a couple of different wing riders told me their favorite prank is to push the reverse button. Bike won't start with the reverse button on. If it ain't yours don't touch it! Didn't we learn that in pre-school? VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Rick is on a really long Alaska run right now. He has posted a thread about it. I had business in Dallas so I hand carried my seats to him. He did them Monday to Friday pickup and I have done 2 iron butts on them now. 21 hours and 17 hours. I feel a lot of things after that long in the saddle but my butt isn't one of them. I used to sit on a Crazy Creek canoe pad back rest - similiar to AirHawk but only $20 ! I would only put a few puffs of air in it and it would levitate you OFF the seat so literally NO pressure points. NOT full of air, just a few puffs. After the Butler work I never found a reason to use the air pillow on the bike. VentureFar...
  6. Just want to thank you for this thread. VentureFar...
  7. Just a reminder to all as the riding season is getting into full 'throttle' is to join the American Motorcyclist Association AmericanMotorcyclist.com Your $49 membership ( using a credit card on file with auto renewal) includes Motorcycle and auto towing at no additional charge ! They are the ones that fight for the legislation that helps keep us safer. That includes fighting to keep 15% Ethanol out of blender pumps. In case you are new to motorcycles, Ethanol is bad for bikes anyway but 15% is a dangerous for your engine. ( read all about it on AMA web site. Again, your membership includes free motorcycle towing when you sign up for auto-renew. VentureFar... PS - it surprises me that with the millions of motorcycles in the USA membership in the AMA is only in the hundred's of 1000's. Spread the word.
  8. Please document the trip. I for one will be following in your tire tracks in the next few years. Safe Travels. VentureFar...
  9. My advise? Listen to cowpuc, carry a high limit credit card and a second one and keep an open mind to meeting great folk along the way. Ps call your cc companies and tell them you will be making many small purchases as gas stations in the specific states. VentureFar...
  10. Wow you must have really leaned it over. I went into a freeway right hand climbing turn at 85 with posted 55. Right at the apex it went decreasing radius and I had to lean it hard right while scrubbing speed with front brake. - feet were on highway pegs. I couldn't believe I didn't scrape or maybe all I could hear was angels and didn't notice the scraping. This crazy interstate turn is on i70 about 25 miles west of green river Utah. Good on ya for leaning it that far. VentureFar...
  11. Exactly what happened to me. Luckily the screw fell inside. In reassembling it I was impressed the the simplicity of this mechanism but I agree the two step close is a pain. FYI mine opens to full 90 degree angle anything more would be "over center " VentureFar...
  12. Are you asking about connecting the cb to your helmet? I use the sena smh10 Bluetooth and get intercom and also music from my iPhone. To connect the cb requires their sm10 adapter and special yamaha cable. Then the cb audio talk and listen will happen in your headset. Personally I don't use the cb but if I need to I can listen in the speakers and reply with hand signals if needed. I am very pleased with the sena smh10 Bluetooth headset system. VentureFar...
  13. Hi. Is "Vic " a typo ? That is not the name you sent me in a pm for the name badge. Is Barb coming with a "friend" instead of you ? VentureFar...
  14. 22 long rifle is the right size. U can use a framing nail but if u drop it that would suck. I leaned the shaft ( and pushed down a little ) on the rim on the opposite side for an almost level strike. There is nothing on the other side of the lower collar if you punch thru deep so hit that sucker ! VentureFar...

  19. Funny. I bought a cheap awl with a wood handle. Hit it hard with a rubber mallet and punched thru every hit. Were you being timid? VentureFar...

I also always wear either Under armor heat gear long johns in the summer or Underarmor cold gear long johns in the winter.
