  1. I just checked my replacement points at 5k miles on them. They look brand new. Anyone replacing the points remember it requires a single UNsolder and solder it is totally "gross " as opposed to fine soldering so make sure you have a way to solder Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Sure glad you came out of it relatively OK. AGATT -- All gear all the time is what I preach too. Good reminder to all. Some of us get complacent after 1000's of miles and decades of incident free riding - Everyone: mind your P's and Q's all the time. VentureFar...
  3. Me too! I tired of the heavy handling. I sit on my tailbone. You will only notice lighter steering and if you go to a 130 front tire from the stock 150 it will get even lighter but you give up lateral stability in high crosswinds - that means in high crosswinds you will have to have both hands on the bars instead of just one. And, I have noticed - but it could just be me that riding hands off seemed to track straighter instead of sort of moving around but who is supposed to be riding hands off anyway....... By the way, they are easy to replace- I agonized over the job until I actually got down on the ground and looked at the bolts. I did mine alone in 20 min and did Beastwood's in 35. Remember that old saying we charge $10 per hour and if you help we charge $15.... just kidding, Beastwood and I spend more time talking than doing. I will be happy to walk you through it on the phone, my number is on the member page. VentureFar...
  4. Is the problem the points? having been on most of the threads on this topic I purchased new points and installed them after coming to a stop next to the fast lane at 80mph 2 up. I took off the side cover - tapped the black cover of the fuel pump and it started clicking - and rode it home - in the slow lane. Then bought the points and 5000 miles later same pump working fine, just the points were VERY bad. Look at the uneven wear after only 15k miles on my 07 RSV Replacement points are $30 ! My local Yamaha dealer service manager says that on his personal bikes- KTM has same pump and same problem - he puts on new points, but as Service Manager of a Yam dealer he can only recommend the whole pump K&L Supply Universal Fuel Pump Point Switch Kit 18-4615 10090009 search on that on ebay - lowest I saw was $29 free shipping just now http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/wornpointsventure_zps3cc5dd48.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/workingonfuelpump_zps13cc4808.jpg VentureFar...
  5. I went into a corner climbing right hander on i70 15 miles west of green river UT at an excessive rate of speed due to in attention and my enjoyment of high speed claiming turns- that particular turn was a severely decreasing radius climbing , slightly off camber turn. I have leveling links - thankfully as they gave me a bit more lean angle. I don't think the car tire would have allowed me to lean over far enough to have survived my mistake. Sure cruising down the interstate a car tire is great but what about that one time when you need ALL the rounded sidewall to not die ? VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Congrats my young brother! Name suits you well. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. If that is a pick up line you will have to fight Tippy for him- and you won't come away unscathed...I'm just sayin' VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. When I replaced the fuel filter - what a pain till I realized taking out the battery would have sped it up--- there was a "thing" rubber mounted on a slip down on it mount in front of the fuel filter. Is it that "thing"?---- like I said, help the helpless - no PUC not hopeless, helpless :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Help the helpless... What does the solenoid switch do and where is it located? Thanks VentureFar...
  10. Ha, this reminds me of my first post on this forum. "When will my 07 RSV stop marking its territory? " Turns out the dealer overfilled the bike when I bought it and it really does BLOW out and DRIP out. VentureFar...
  11. Puc, if it is the end of the day then pack it in, but if it is the middle of the "movie" then ....shhhh don't tell anyone - 5 hour energy. You guys "organize" your trips a little different than I do. I plan every mile. I call the gas stations ahead of time to make sure they are open at the time I will be there and I book the motel I will be staying at since I know my limits - sometimes my limits are stretched with shhhh... don't tell anyone.....5 hour energy and other times I am high on the "movie" and thinking about what great new friends I made ( at The Dalles). But even with my 17 and 21 hours in the saddle for the Iron Butt's, I wouldn't ride though the night and into the morning, my personal body clock just won't run from about 2-5 am. at all. Hi to that special gal! VentureFar...
  12. What everyone else said ! I did the links and also the narrow front tire- to me the bike went from feeling like an old no power steering truck to a current power steering. Someone asked about center stand - Having done it twice - on mine and beastwood the rear tire just needs to be off the ground completely and since you are putting on SHORTER links you may have to do some manuvering to get the bolt through - but honestly I can't remember if I had do change the lift or just pull a little on the shock. - I think just pull a little. You will notice a big change in the muscle requirement in the twisties. VentureFar...
  13. Hey Big Lenny- I am not retired and I am going to be in Little Rock this week - 7-14 through friday. Any chance we can connect up? My phone number is in my profile. I am landing about 4ish - Monday 7-14 Have Monday Tues and Thur even available. I will have a car. Would be great to hear first hand about "retirement" - too bad I will never see it personally. VentureFar...
  14. Wow I just noticed her twin sister came along. I can't handle one let alone 2, but it is fun to wonder what it would be like to have 2 in the garage.....how does one choose one over the other ? VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. One can only hope to be rewarded in this manner once in lifetime. Puc you make the world a better place for all of us to enjoy! Thanks my friend! VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I thought he let it down 'nicely'. When I 'let' my RSV down at a gas station because my wife wiggled left as I was lifting the kickstand, it looked a lot like that only with a lot more cussing and swearing....... VentureFar...
  17. Is it a one off or manufactured custom? Looks great. Besides straight, how does it handle? VentureFar... PS - My mistress eyes wonder toward the Yamaha Raider but I am too loyal ..... http://raiderperformance.com/safricover2.jpg http://raiderperformance.com/safricover2.jpg
  18. Wow. I am speechless but happy for you and your memories. The worst that happens to me on the road is, ah, well, just scenery. You got real memories! Glad you kept the right attitude. Did you take a page from Cowpuc's book: “The difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude" Good on ya! VentureFar...
  19. My ears were burning and up popped this thread. What is your next unscripted trip? Thanks for the kind words. Keep on 'Puc'n ! VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Wow - that was easy - to watch and evidently to do also, when you know the trick [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TShysJyHb-0]Changing the rear wheel on a Goldwing GL1800 - YouTube[/ame] waaaay easier than the RSV ! VentureFar....
  21. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way from California. VentureFar...
  22. Can you be more specific where to look for this relay on the 2nd Gen? since I had worn out fuel pump points at only 15,000 miles, I want to investigate any potential "weird" problems. Thanks VentureFar...
  23. If the above was correct then wouldn't the designers of the tire have done that? I'll stick to the normal way but thanks for sharing. VentureFar...
  24. I love waking up to this! Happy 4th all. VentureFar...
  25. I don't understand. Please explain both outing the wider rear tire on the front- as that is opposite what everyone is doing for steering - and why put the tire on backward? Or are you joking? I am too naive to know. Thanks. VentureFar...
