  1. Have you ridden in the rain at 40psi? Any issue with hydroplane ? thx venturefar...
  2. Ok- just put on the new rubber on 2007 RS Venture. Got 14,000 on front Metz 880 and wasn't at wear bars - probably 2000 miles left on it. Shinko was at wearbars after 5000 miles. Now metx 880 on front ( narrow) and Dunlop E3 on the rear. Felt nice riding home about 10 miles on the freeway. Tire guy recommends 36 front Metz and 38 rear E3. I ruin 38 on the front with great success but no experience with E3 rear. What do you E3 fans recommend for tire pressure on the rear. Thx VentureFar...
  3. Going today to have narrow metz 880 front and Standard E3 rear put on. Looking forward to new rubber for my 3500 RT to Sturgis in a few weeks. Nothing like the feel of new rubber on the bike you love. Hey since this thread has a lot of subscribers -- anyone going to Sturgis take a look at the thread. Have some meet ups and dinner plans. 9. Thanks for the info. I am going to TRY to get a spot at vanocker campground just south of town. It is so close I feel can avoid the stop and go on lazelle coming in and out from that direction. From vanocker there is a back way to Main Street. If that doesn't work out look for a royal star midnight lumbering into the iron horse around 7pm sunday. VentureFar...
  10. Just curious- why the iron horse? shade? Location? Sights around dusk? thanks venturefar...

  12. Hey Big Lenny thanks for the shout out. I really enjoyed our visit. Your wife if delightful and she will be in my prayes for a quick recovery. Please tell her hi from the "unexpected" guest you brought home. 😎
  13. I want to thank TDunc for coming out on a 'school' night to have dinner with me in Charlotte. We spent a good 3 hours jawboning about bikes, airplanes, riding, family and life. Just like everyone I have met from the forum on my travels, TDunc is a great guy and I am proud to call him my friend. I am so grateful to all the forum members that open up a few hours of their busy schedules to make a fellow member feel welcome in their town. I do travel a lot so I hope to get around to everyone eventually, I may even get to Michigan to see my pal @cowpuc . I started a new job so I haven't been on the forum for quite a while. Like all of us, I am sorry to hear about so many friends not keeping the rubber side down. Please ride safe out there and leave extra room between you and the cages. VentureFar... hanging around NC for a few days...
  14. VentureFar is in the house. I agree that anything we can do to keep from being "unseen is important to do. I use the kisan modulating headlight and high mounted bright led flashing brake lights. And of course double back off whips. Good topic VentureFar...
  15. In California, due to the grooves in the freeways I have found I will only ride with Metz 880 front. the thread doesn't track the grooves and cause you to wiggle for your entire ride on the freeway. But Will be replacing my rear soon - getting rid of the worn out early Shinko and going with E3- seems to be the consensus that E3 last longer on our Gen 2 with no issues. I have 18k on the front Metz 880 and it still has safe tread but not enough for riding to the International in July.
  16. Keep it coming PUC, your fans, friends and audience are hanging onto your every word. VentureFar...
  17. My second SS1000 only took 17 hours vrs 1st at 21 hours. Was short daylight winter ride. Couple of things. I carried 2 gallon gas can and instead of getting off the freeway for the first stop I used the 2 gallons. That allowed me only 1 gas station stop in 500 miles. huge time saver. I carried with me pb&J sandwiches, bananas, nuts and power bars in my tank bag and ate while riding. I have two water bottle holders and used both with reserve water in my side case. Doing all that I averaged 74 mph for the first 510 miles - riding at steady 78 mph. Not using the 2 gallon gas can on the last 510 miles - and that it was dark from 5pm to midnight my daily average speed for 1028 miles in 17 hours is 60 mph. That was eating on the bike, cool enough to not drink a lot so limited 'physical' breaks, and skipping a gas station. riding at cruise control 78 (daytime) on the GPS I averaged 60mph. The only way to do a better mph average for the whole thing is to have more daylight. Higher cruise speed is not the way to go faster but eliminating "non riding" time is. I normally tell other riders to expect to average 50 mph for an average day riding 400-600 miles. Taking your time to enjoy the ride, take a photo or two, stop to smell the roses, eat a 30 minute lunch etc gets you 50mph, but even with hustle, over the course of 17 hours, 60 is about it. Hope this helps with anyone's planning. VentureFar...
  18. *****since you don't have to turn in originals, immediately take a smart phone photo of your receipts as you get them. Every time. That way if you lose the zip lock bag you still have all your documentation. VentureFar...
  19. Puc you are too kind. Thanks for being you. We are all better with you in our lives. VentureFar...
  20. Interesting, I think esurance is Allstate.
  21. Yes - spoke with agent on the phone - he called me actually. We spoke about how he couldn't picture doing an iron butt since he has only ridden max 100 miles in one day. But I digress. Yes we spoke and he said the price increase is due to OVER 8k miles per year - would be cheaper if I didn't ride the bike.......go figure
  22. How many miles did you tell them you ride? I have had the bike since 3/13 and have added 17,000 miles to the odometer - avg 809 miles per month= 9708 per year as a non commuter.
  23. My Allstate agent just phoned me and said that there is a $100 difference between stating UNDER 8000 miles per year and OVER 8000 miles per year. I happily put on over 8k miles per year - riding only on weekends and a few LD vacations- or an IRON BUTT thrown in for good measure. I guess this price is in line... ugghh
