So I attacked it just now. Don't know what I was so concerned about ....now. Took off the brake perch to gain access to the two Phillips screws that hold the switch housing. Unscrewed the screws. The top one I did with a socket wrench due the the short room available. With it open I had more access to shove in contact cleaner and then wd40. The speed control cancel and the set and accel all are once again springy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2007 2nd Gen and my Set Accel switch is sticky in the ACCELERATE position- can deal with that and just lazy to take the whole thing apart to see why - probably crud build up. Today I hit the CANEL button and it stayed IN. So now I really have the take it apart. Does anyone have experience with the all the Cruise control switches Crudding up or even before I take it apart I should buy a used replacement ? Thoughts? Thanks VentureFar... and a shout out to my good friend @cowpuc

I'm So Bloomin Tired Of Worrying About What Tire To Buy!!!
VentureFar replied to BigLenny's topic in Watering Hole
Hey Big Lenny - Neil here. I just put on my second E3 on my 07 RSV. Got 12k on the first set.- still had some rubber left but I needed to change the rear disc so just had the rear replaced at the same time ( labor cost) ME888 got 8 or 9k but it was a pain in the butt having to keep it at 50# On Los Angeles freeways the grooving causes tire following unless I keep a Metz up front. Best to you, VentureFar... -
When I dropped mine it was at a gas station. Wife likes to stay on the pillion when I fuel. I get back on the bike and 1\2 way through bringing up the kick stand my wife wiggled left and with my left foot in the air bike just dropped. The funny part was me telling her to get off the bike and she says" I am holding it up for you " I almost pee'd my pants laughing so hard. When I composed my self I told her the bike is on the ground and she is not holding it up. She was so surprised they her leaning off the side of the saddle wasn't holding up 900 pounds. Still makes me chuckle. VentureFar ...

Multi compound tire wear
VentureFar replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am now changing out my rear E3 on my 2nd gen - Here is how the tires stacked up 8000 on Metzler 880 8600 on Metzler 888 5000 on crappy Shinko 12,000 on Dunlop E3 ! and just now ALMOST hitting the wear bar. Guess what I am buying again, yup, E3 VentureFar... -
Going to trust the guy I have been buying my tires from since 2004. He is suggesting a US made rear rotor for $108 - 1/2 the price of OEM. Going with factory pads though. Have had squeaking issues using aftermarket pads on other bikes. Great idea to rotate the pads at each oil change. Didn't hear or see that anywhere on the forum. Very costly to NOT be active on this forum ! Thanks all, VentureFar...soon

Hi all, Thanks for the info. My caliper is badly scored on the inside. The rear/smaller piston even wore down and pushed out of the hole, ugggh! I am replacing all seals and 4 pistons. New oem disc is $200. Any suggestions on aftermarket for the disc? My tire store checked the rear pads when I changed the rear tire 12,000 miles ago, said they were at 50% - All good info about rotating the pads. Is there a cheaper disc option? where to buy? Thanks all VentureFar....soon fyi I didn't get any notifications of responses to this thread. Always have before. That is why I haven't responded sooner

2007 Royal Star Midnight Venture with 35000 miles. no drips on my garage floor, brake worked fine getting gas and stopping at the light before the freeway on ramp. About 30 miles on the freeway and then getting off a long off ramp it just felt like the pedal was lower than muscle memory would have it. Each time I pumped the foot brake to check the action it got lower and lower but was working till it hit bottom one time and then it obviously stopped working. I continued a few miles to my friends house just using the front- I was planning on picking up a passenger but this bike doubles the stopping distance with just the front and 2 up would have been totally unsafe in Los Angeles. I checked and the rear tire is totally splattered and fresh brake fluid was dripping from the inside of the caliper area. Getting home I took off the right bag and washed the whole area to not have it eat the paint. the close up is the inside of the caliper and there is a very flat and sharp piece of metal - you can see it in the photo- wedged between the brakepad and the disc. Just took off the caliper and found I had worn the brake pad down to the metal and then through the metal. oops. looks like I need new pads, two new piston things and a rebuild kit Does anything go BOING when replacing those parts or is it straight forward? Thanks VentureFar... except not this time : - ) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-12/20161210_164433_zpsmik6qxsl.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/20161210_162642_zpsqn3awrxh.jpg

If you go that way then leave out the north east exit of Yellowstone and ride bear tooth highway. It was rated the number one best road by AMA members. An even better esperience is out the east exit from Yellowstone to Cody. Then north on chief Joseph highway to intersect bear tooth. And ride both amazing roads. Uggh I want to go too and probably will next year. Been 8x in the last 10 years. VentureFar...

Hey all. I have many stupid daytime rides through the Mojave desert in the summer time. Buy a 10 pound bag of ice and stick it in your jacket. You can ride all day at 100 degrees and feel comfortable enough. It isn't ac but close. Friends it works for the rider and pillion too. VentureFar...

Anyone have "little known secrets" about 2nd Gen
VentureFar replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
I run to reserve all the time. I catch the fuel miles count up within 1 to 2 miles and switch to reserve. FYI if I get gas immediately I fill up with 4.2 gallons exactly. Which left me about 1.5 or 1.6 gal. Also did you see the hole punching of the filler neck to get an additional .4 into the tank? VentureFar... -

In the gas tank? Why would one do that except to futz around? VentureFar... -
Coffey I think of you often. Our time on the road to Venture West was the highlight of that summer but for finally putting a hug on cowpuc and tip. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice and your friendship. Stay safe. VentureFar...

Never heard of him either. I was a little put off with an "old guy" trying to look like the younger crowd but he is growing on me. Not my favorite show but I do tape them and watch as a fill in for any interesting local facts I can pick up. VentureFar...

starting problems
VentureFar replied to Larry1963's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Carry a second ignition key in your pocket. That way you don't have to shut it off to refuel. Hate to tell you it doesn't sound like battery. Sorry Take the car. VentureFar... -
I have the 10 1/2 adjustable for 25000 Miles and plenty of severe rain. I have found leaving it short and using my full face shield works the best for visability. I ruined my baggershield with loctite on the thru screws ( don't use loctite on near lucite! ) Anyway I just ordered the regular 11 inch with no flip up. I never used it in years. Even my wife preferred it down under all conditions. Just a suggestion. Instead of estimating the line to cut, newspaper mask off the lower section up to the place where you can just see over it 25 feet in front of you in your normal "slouch" . the bagger shield adjustable is 10.5 inches tall measured from the center for reference. FYI I was taught and feel strongly that anything that you could see through the dark tint but can't you couldn't avoid anyway---too late. You should be looking farther out than 25 feet. My 2 cents VentureFar...

I just bought the 11 inch to replace my adjustable that I ruined with loctite. The Reason I am going with the straight 11 inch is that I never convert it. Wife says when riding pillion she is comfortable with the air flow. I'm just sayin' Venturefar. ..
