  1. Thanks for the shout out my brother @cowpuc Ultimate Mororcycling gets in a lot of bikes to test but I only like to ride Touring Models and most came and went before I met them. Maybe when the 2019’s come out I will get a chance to hop on some new bikes. One can only hope. VentureFar...
  2. I agree. Do you know where the fuel pump is and what to look for? Left side above the left passenger foot pad. Fuel pump is a 3 inch round cylinder with a black rubber cap. Tape off the cap and see the points. Mine were burned uneven at 15,000 miles. Totally stuck together but possible to unstick just by tapping on them with the key on. If so, buy points not a very expensive fuel pump. Venturefar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I put 570 miles on an Eluder (single day) and about 680 on the venture (100 Saturday 2 up and Sunday solo trying for an iron butt 1000) The highest temp I saw was 78 degrees f riding at 35 mph for about 8 minutes on the eluder. I rode to Death Valley round trip to test the eluder’ long day experience. At 78 degrees at 35mph for 8 minutes the heat on my left thigh caused my body temp to rise enough that my arm pits dripped sweat. I am 66 years old and had never experienced my arm pits dripping sweat drops until that moment. Would I purchase the Venture in spite of the severe heat issue on the left side? YES! But it would be something I would know from the start I will have to put up with. Like being careful not to hit bumps in high speed turns on my Gen2 RSV because it will start to wallow and scare the crap out of me.
  4. I think the idea of a second person holding up the bars is great but what if that person has stinging wasp fly up their pant leg? Aren’t you going to wish you put padding over the tank? The dent it makes is really ugly... VentureFar...
  5. Very important to put about 4” of padding on the tank if you are going to adjust the bars on the eluder or the venture Trust me! VentureFar...
  6. Maybe I missed this part. What exact led are you running? Lighting is excellent. I have two 25w led mounted on my mirror stalks on a separate switch. I can ride 75 in pitch black and see to stop. I bought an led replacement but then realized I would need to spend another $100 on the kisan headlight modulator. I won’t ride without it. Now if I had @cowpuc smile I wouldn’t need a headlight modulator [emoji112] VentureFar.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Yup used the sky doc spring kit and all solid now. VentureFar...
  8. Wow they is quite a seat. Really an eye catcher. Enjoy it. VentureFar...
  9. How is the seat for you? i started squiring at 60miles so when I did 540miles I sat on my air pillow and then I was fine. I wonder if Rick Butler has tried to make one comfortable yet ? VentureFar...
  10. Evidently Kuryakyn mounts do fit. I saw a post either here or on ultimate motorcycling .com where a new owner had already mounted them. VentureFar...
  11. Yup finally did yesterday. 120 mile lunch ride. Very positive feel to the acceleration now. VentureFar...
  12. Hi all those new to the forum or new to the Gen 2. Here is what I know are the weak spots to be proactive about or at least be aware of. I have done them all and I only have 39,000 mostly long distance highway miles. Everyone please chime in. 1. Clutch spring is weak and will cause your clutch to slip on hard acceleration coming into the powerband. Mine started at 5000 miles and I am only an occasional hard accelerator. Replace the spring with a stronger one. Easy job imho 2. Points on the fuel pump fail and cause fuel starvation. If you are ever running down the highway and the bike acts like you ran out of gas but you know you didn’t, pull over safely, take off the plastic left side cover (kick stand side) and tap hard on the black fuel pump cover to jar the points loose. Try to ride home. The clicking you hear is the points ( same as when you turn on the key before hitting the starter button. Buy new points-not a whole new fuel pump! $30 verses $250? Easy job requiring a single solder spot. 3. Ignition key switch burn out. Proactive -buy the ignition relay bypass and install it before your ignition key switch burns out. 4. Rear brake pads- rotate them at each rear tire replacement and if you never checked them and have 20,000 miles go out and check them now! The inner pad wears heavily and can wear through all the way to allow a piston to pop out and you (me) lose the rear brake on a 70 mph downhill off ramp with hydraulic fluid spraying all over the tire. 5. Not a repair but you can get an extra 4/10 gallon into your fuel tank and/ or fill it faster by bravely punching holes in the filler neck. Everyone jump in and share. VentureFar... 13. All good! Clutch friction zone with sky doc spring kit is comfortable. No slipping at all on roll on in any gear at any rpm. The install was easy- even for a non wrench- Thank you all for your support and guidance. VentureFar...” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Awesome! That was my experience as well. Just a reminder if you are going to move the bars up or down put 4 inches of jacket or towels. If the bars drop the switch towers will dent the tank. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I didn’t write that in either review. I did write it up on our forum in two places. I was very embarrassed about that and the magazine has a large readership including the folks at Yamaha. It made a sizable ping in a 400 mile new bike tank! VentureFar
  16. Lucky for me it was a Yamaha factory loaner for magazine testing. Did you read my reviews of the venture and the eluder? https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2018/02/07/2018-yamaha-star-eluder-test-death-valley-bust/ https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2018/03/01/iron-butt-comparison-2018-yamaha-star-venture-vs-personalized-2007-royal-star-venture/ VentureFar...
  17. Maybe I should patent them but they were @cowpuc idea. We were talking while I was on my attempted and aborted ironbutt ride. They are large c clamps mounted upside down on the end of the floor boards to rest your boots on. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Are you looking at your knuckles in the mirrors? That was my problem on the eluder with the bars up high. It it a great feature to be able to rotate the bars. Anyone reading this make sure to protect the tank with 4” of jacket or towel when rotating the bars. If they fall the switch towers dent the tank! ah...don’t ask me how I know ... glad you found a fix. I needed highway pegs to allow pushing back against the back rest/back of the seat. VentureFar...
  19. Did the skydoc spring kit tonight. @cowpuc was really supportive. Said he would fly to Los Angeles if I got stuck (not really) The hardest part was cutting down the 5mm Allen wrench to fit behind the exhaust. The rest was just following clear instructions. I didn’t go for a ride but I did move It back and forth and the clutch worked! Like I said, I am not a wrench but I can follow instructions. I will update this thread after I try to roll on and see if it slips or not. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Changed the clutch spring on my 2007 RSV. Very proud of myself. It works after I finished ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Congratulations on the new bike. I tried one out for Ultimate.Motorcycling.com for a whole weekend. And got to known it very well. I would need some ergo adjustments but if my 2007 RSV was abducted by aliens I would buy a gen 3 in a heart beat Here is my write up if you want to read it. https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2018/03/01/iron-butt-comparison-2018-yamaha-star-venture-vs-personalized-2007-royal-star-venture/ Safe travels. 22. In September 2005 I rode through Zion with a friend taking in the sights. We then rode a 26 mile dirt road to cedar city and then over to Bryce cyn. Wait, I am getting to the point. Then we rode south and we split up at the east entrance to Zion. It was 5 pm. There was no one on the road except an older idiot in a jaguar cage with another couple in the back who was trying to keep me from passing him. We all know the idiot type- ready to die rather than get his ego hurt by being passed by a motorcycle cycle. I passed him. I know it is sac religious to race thru such a beautiful place but I had just seen it earlier in the day. I decided to time myself from east entrance ranger station to west ranger station. I had to stop for 11 minutes at the one way tunnel. Total time riding from east to west....17 minutes. (Plus 11 at the tunnel) It is 11 miles point to point. Seemed to me like a lot farther and took a lot longer A memorable 28 minutes. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I used to get tired in the twisters from all the arm work. Did the leveling links and that lightens up the bike about 50 percent IMHO and then about a month later went to the 130 and that did like you said “added power steering”. I did notice that I couldn’t ride hands off as long with the 130 and in severe cross winds the bike moves around more. But the light steering makes a huge positive change. VentureFar... 24. This is the last oil I used 3000 miles ago Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Valvoline or pennsoil 10/40 or 20/50 4 stroke oil. Always. Change at 5000 miles religiously. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
