Mine were almost that bad at just 18,000 miles. Thankfully the good people here told me to just change the points for $30. Now 44,000 miles. I need to get off my lazy butt and check them. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I test rode the Eluder (525 mile day ride) and the Venture (iron butt attempt- only 5xx miles that day) and I have to agree that the heat off the left side is a deal breaker for me. I test rode for ultimatemotorcycling.com and it happened to be before summer I rode through Death Valley. At one point I was watching air temp and at 73 degrees on the infotainment screen I was riding about 30 mph and for the first time in my life I felt my body temp rise and my arm pits started actually dripping sweat. I had the bars at full up so my pits were wide open and drip drip drip. Everyone has a different heat tolerance and mine must be low because riding the SVT for just a few minutes at low speed- not stopped- I was personally getting cooked. Your experience may vary.... I heard about it on the radio and pulled over to check it out. Only $150,000 each with$10,000 non refundable deposit. Too rich for my blood. Ha. Imagine going down Main Street in Sturgis on this “bike”. You wouldn’t need a bikini clad pillion to attract all the attention! VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

metal pieces that hold your rear shock in place are replaced by ones about 3/4 in longer . They raise the rear end to change the steering geometry to make the end feel lighter. Do a search on it. Plenty of talk and specs. I bought mine from “ diamond ...something.com cant remember the site name exactly but you will find it with a search on this forum. Some people lower the front end to accomplish the same thing. Venturefar... -
New Front Tire. Dunlap E 4 replace E 3
VentureFar replied to KenM's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I first put on leveling links and that took 50 percent of the muscle out of the steering. Then did the 130 front (gen2) and to me the bike feels like it has power steering. The only negative is in severe crosswinds the bike requires two hands on the bars. With the stock wide front tire I was comfortable in crazy crosswinds just holding on with one hand. FYI ultimatemototcycling.com bought me a set of Pirelli MT66’s and I now have 5000 miles on them. They still look brand new and they actually feel like they cushion the ride. They are really inexpensive. Everyone: remember when changing your rear tire make sure to rotate your brake pads they wear incredibly uneven Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Went back to bias ply Pirelli’s

I rode two up yesterday and my slow speed stability was noticeable. So was the drop into a turn. I can deal with the drop into o a slow speed turn, just takes a little extra attention and handlebar strength but I love the slow speed stability coming up to a stop lite two up. VentureFar... Once again the nice folks at ultimatemororcycling.com magazine bestowed upon me something to test, a set of Joe Rocket gloves This is the ride report they published. I used them on my 7 day, 3300 mile ride a few weeks ago and I loved them. I wore them in the rain and heat. I comfortably added glove liners when it was cold. https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2018/09/12/joe-rocket-cyntek-motorcycle-gloves-review-comfort-and-protection/ VentureFar... Interestingly it was warmer at the top at 10,000 feet than down below in RedLodge. Evidently it was a temperature inversion. I was worried but since I was there already and could turn around and take an alternate route so I proceeded cautiously. I was constantly feeling the air and watching for any water in the shade. I stopped once just before an area of water and got off the bike to touch it and it was just water. Glad I moved forward. It was a great ride. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yup. The mesh is solid black. I am unhappy about that. I wanted a high viz jacket and that is only the over jacket. Bummer! VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
So is it the carb and injector cleaner specifically by name? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A friend has a Harley and let it sit for two years with no stabilizer. Which specific version of gumout should he try before rebuilding the carbs? 1 and done? Carb and injector cleaner? Other gumout names? Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Congrats on the new ride. I put a good amount of test ride miles on the Eluder and the Venture and I agree with everything you said. Even the pain. That is why I had to turn back on my iron butt attempt - no highway pegs. I found after 75 miles that my butt hurt ( the day before), so for my iron butt attempt I used my crazy creek canoe pad - $20 discontinued version of an air hawk. No butt problems for 560 miles when sitting on a lightly filled air cushion. I like the bike but the maintenance schedule seems a bit expensive. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Technical and slow speed maneuvering

@cowpuc I hate to be the bearer of the news but Videoarizona has a lowered front end on the bike you rode which makes slow speed riding easier on the 2nd Gen I just noticed he mentioned that in his response to my Pirelli MT66 tire report. Still stands that your million miles trumps ( no politics here) my 110,000 miles for slow speed riding comfort. I will say that it with 37,000 miles on my Gen 2 it is getting easier to ride. I did find at slow speed in city right turns or u turn speeds that the MT66 does want to dive into the turn (130 on the front with rear raised up. But at higher speeds like in twisties I feel like it doesn’t want to go into the turn making it more stable on the hwy. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Update at 4000 miles. The front and rear still look brand new to me at 4000 road miles. There you go @cowpuc you won’t have to change this rear tire mid way across the continent. I did 3300 from LA to Montana, over Beartooth and Chief Joseph thru Cody to Denver then Gallup NM and back to LA. Had 1.5 days of solid rain. Tires always felt solid under me. Also, and this is very subjective but the whole ride The Pirelli’s just felt “comfortable” under me. Kind of like a new pair of Nike tennis shoes with added gel inserts. I don’t normally “feel” my tires after the initial get to know them couple of hundred miles but these stood out as making the ride smoother somehow. I’ll keep everyone updated as the miles pass by. FYI I do have a 130 on the front which adds the ease of power steering to the front end. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Nice to see you guys out having fun on the 2nd gen. I guess you are right about practice. Your million miles to my 110,000 miles is what makes the “comfort “ difference in slow speed riding. You ride the Ventures at slow speeds like I was able to ride my xr250 dirt bike. Some day when I am about 140 years old and have a million miles I’ll do my slow speed video but I am sure I still won’t be as good at it as you. You always amaze. Love you my brother @cowpuc ! Congrats on the new ride. I sure needed highway pegs badly on the test bike. Had to turn around and only do 500 miles of my test iron butt 1000 because my body hated not having highway pegs. Simple to protect the tank! Lay several inches of beach towel on it before touching the bars at all. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ride report Joe Rocket Alter Ego 4.1 - I love it
VentureFar replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
I just did 3300 miles and out and back across the Mojave desert with temps over 110. In that heat when all the other riders were wearing their wife beater shirts, I put on my cycle gear rain / cold overpants and the Joe rocket outer jacket- all to keep the hot air from roasting me. I sank a 10# bag of ice inside the front of my jacket and rode had stop to gas stop is relative comfort. I was even breathing cool air as I would rest the open ‘under chin’ of my full face on the top of the front of the jacket and up would come cool air off the ice bag. When the temps are that high, covering up is way better than exposing. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I am heading over Beartooth in the am. Here is a screen shot of the video as I was riding into Red Lodge this afternoon. The fuzziness is caused by rain drops. Got rained on all day. VentureFar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
