  1. Just talked to Buddy and it will be a while before he can make me a cable. Anyone out there know where I can get my hands on one soon? I'll be splitting the fairing soon and I would like to knock this out while I'm in there. Any thoughts?
  2. Glad you're OK.
  3. +1 on the Garmin. I love my 660.
  4. It's a kit custom. Previous owner built it with some additional goodies.
  5. Holy Crap! I wish I had known that 3 or 4 times ago!
  6. I decided it was time for a second bike again. Now I have the two extremes; the RSV for total comfort and luxury and this beast which is not much more than a motor (110 cubic inch), fenders and a gas tank. It's a blast to ride!
  7. Just a follow-up to let you all know how it turned out. I ordered a set of saddlebag liners. Rolled the pants and folded the shirts in accordance with a video I watched on YouTube. I kept the trunk relatively empty so I could fold the sport coat loosely inside. Bottom line: after a little ironing of the shirts, five days worth of clothes were good-to-go. I didn't need to iron the pants at all. Thanks for all the tips.
  8. I didn't want to hijack dbltrb's thread, so I decided to start this one for a simple question. Mic mute is about $130 and requires some simple install. 5 pin inline mic switches would be about $70 for the pair with no install required. Any opinions either way?
  9. Are you kidding me??? Those are beautiful!!!
  10. Made the trip (at least the first leg, return trip soon). What a great ride. 460 miles in just under 8 hours. The weather was severe clear all the way. So much for forecasts.
  11. Excellent input. Thanks for helping shape my decision. Certainly is nice to have this forum to get thoughts from experienced touring riders. I'm goin' for it!
  12. I'm heading out on an 8 hour ride soon. The weather forecast for various cities along the route is for 20 to 30 percent chance of rain along the entire route. Would you ride or take the cage?
  13. Amen Brother!! In my business, we call this mishap "pilot error". You can't blame the equipment for a rider who gets outside of the envelope.
  14. Thanks all...seems pretty simple. I guess I was making this more complicated than it needs to be. I'll post some pics after the trip.
  15. I'm leaving in a couple of weeks for a week-long course. Attire is business casual, which in this case means dress pants with open collar shirt. A sport coat will be required for two of the sessions. The campus is about 450 miles from my home and I'd like to ride there. Soooo, any pointers on packing this type of clothing so it isn't in a knot when I get to the other end? The route is beautiful and I'd really like to do it on the bike. I don't want packing to be a show-stopper.
  16. As an aviator I got pretty excited about the title of this post. Darn...
  17. Very helpful.
  18. What about riding in the rain? Other than making the bike look like crap, what are opinions about the effect on the longevity of the motorcycle?
  19. I'm wondering how he was able to balance those big brass ones on some of those spots. That guy is nuts (pardon the pun).
  20. ...for bikes that is. It's impossible to notice that this site is saturated with owners of older bikes that are in great condition. I was wondering...are there tips that any of you could share for keeping bikes looking and running great for years to come?
  21. Holy cow! That is one clean looking '89. Congratulations.
  22. "Smooth" by Santana
  23. I recently did a detailed cleaning of my wheels. After using a foam wheel cleaner and a lot of elbow grease, I still have what appear to be stains (for lack of a better term) on the wheels in just a few spots. Any suggestions for getting them clean? I'm afraid to use anything too harsh because I don't want to damage the finish.
  24. Very cool. I'd love to link up with him sometime.
  25. I took a test ride on a Vision yesterday during Victory Demo Days at a local dealer. It was a surprisingly nimble bike in turns considering the size. I felt very comfortable laying it over on the twisties. I didn't like the transmission "clunk" at all. I don't know if I could ever get used to that. I also didn't like the mirrors. While they look sporty because they're molded into the fairing, at least half of the field of view was my gloves and the clutch/brake levers. They sit too close to the grips and you can't adjust very much for a better view. I loved the adjustable windshield. All in all, my Venture smooth and friendly after about 30 minutes on the Vision. While there were things I liked about the Victory, I wasn't inspired to make a change.
