Yamaha fires back on why they didn't use the vmax v4 engine
Karaboo replied to RandyR's topic in Watering Hole
I would find changing the rear tire (assuming you can find one i the right size) hard without a center stand. -
Changed oil in the morning and took it for a good run to town to get a filter for my Envoy. Then I changed that oil, too. I think new plugs are coming soon. And a carb sync. It's getting a little buzzy.

Airflow and throttle position are the only things affecting vacuum. You may want to make sure nothing is blocking the air into the carbs, either. Something may have made a nest or somehow plugged your intake.

Go buy a lottery ticket RIGHT NOW!

Front fender trim
Karaboo replied to Karaboo's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I ordered one from California off ebay (from Prairiehammer's post). It should be here Tuesday. If the chrome is in rough shape, I will need to try another one. Mine was just about perfect before it went AWOL. -
I would miss the fun of running through the first two gears on our V4's and having to back off, because I am over the speed limit by a bunch. The low end grunt of the twin would move it along pretty quick, but it's not the same. I know some of the magazine reviews said how smooth it rides, but I don't think it was a big difference from my first gen (with a good sync and fresh plugs). There was less shaking at idle than I expected (almost none). They did a hell of a job getting that balance right. Cornering clearance: I did not take it over far enough at speed to tell, but the slow speed maneuvers seemed a lot easier. Sorry Puc, I have never driven a Polaris (not even sleds). I will have to see if I can get a ride set up on an Indian, Harley and Wing to compare.

I pretty much agree with everything from Cimmer's report. I was also in the first group ride at Red Wing. I was impressed with the slow speed handling. Add the park assist and it takes a lot of the "do I want to park over there" worry out of parking lots. I also was hitting the rev limiter, mostly in second gear with the "Tour" mode selected. I did not notice it in "Sport" mode. The gear indicator on my bike had problems when down shifting for a stop. That is usually the only time I pay attention to it. Sometimes it stayed at "5" or "-" until I stopped. They did have at least one bike there with the heal-toe shifter. I did not get to ride with one, but I did get used to the forward controls, same as Cimmer. I am not sure if I liked the sounds from the bike while riding. With a little more seat time I probably wouldn't even notice. The shifting was actually better than I expected, and Cimmer was right on about the overdrive gears. You could use 5th or 6th without worrying about lugging it down, unless you were wanting to pass. I did notice a little heat when I let it idle at the end of the ride. It was no worse than having the fan kick on at idle on my first gen. Not a big fan of the "Smart Key" system they came up with. I am not sure why they did this? Did too many people complain about having to lift a key all the way to the ignition switch? The rest of the electronics are well done and anyone should be able to adjust to the controls easily. It was a good time, but I wish I could have stayed longer and made a few more rides.

I might see you there, Rick. Friday may turn into Saturday for me.

I am going to stop down at Red Wing (River Valley Power and Sport) for Friday's test rides. Weather permitting.

I am missing the trim for the leading edge of the front fender. It decided to go its own way on my way home from work, yesterday. I guess I will take a look at Pinwall and Michigan cycle salvage. If anyone has any other places to look, please chime in. Now I will have to get all the old tape off without damage, so it will look presentable without the trim, just in case I never find one. I am looking for the piece behind the bumper.

Yaaay (for 2nd gen guys)!

Flashlight and extra batteries. DUCT TAPE!

Got Friday the 21st planned in for the Red Wing demo ride. Hope we get decent weather.

I swear mine sounds different depending on which way the wind is blowing. Same roads to work every day, yet the engine/exhaust can have a different tone.

what weird a$$ vehicles have you owned/driven?

My dad bought a Catterpillar dozer (small one, don't remember the size #) with a blown engine and made a Ford Model A motor fit. He wanted to use that motor in a sawmill rig, so he swapped it out for a Rambler 4-cylinder. He also made a "doodle-bug" out of several defunct chassis and parts he scrounged up. It had 2 transmissions (back to back, I believe), tall semi-sized tires, and a hand pumped hydraulic dump box trailer. I shoveled a lot of sand into that trailer. He finally found a tractor he wanted to replace it. -
Try pinwallcycle.com for used parts. They have an ebay store to make searching easier.

83 1200t cdi

Do you have an open circuit, or a short? The former will not carry current, while the latter will carry too much and blow fuse (OR LET OUT THE SMOKE). -
Carb Tune Help Needed
Karaboo replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Left side is #1 and #2 . Right side, the left screw is #3 and #4 . Right side the right screw is to sync right side to left side. Skydoc's instructions cover it really well. The adjustment screws are flat head, not phillips. The first gen was from 83 to 93. Mark 1 was 83 to 85. Mark 2 was 86 to 93. -

Some pictures... A cracked rock. As good a place as any, to stop for a break. Some bikes getting ready for the long and winding road. Debating the issues of the day. Camping got moved to higher ground. We knew why on Wednesday. I'll try to get some clips from my dash cam posted, when I figure out how to make some shorter, smaller files.

Real stiff front shocks on a Mk2 89

I am sure that was a lot better on your sanity than trying to sort out the originals. -
AWESOME!

Wednesday looking to get a little damp. We will find a way to have fun, anyway. Looks like my ride down tomorrow will be dry, but Friday may be a little wet for the return trip. Of course, they have a hard time forecasting 2 days out, let alone 5, so it may get better, or worse by then. As long as we don't get torrential driving rain, it'll be okay.

Another Progressive spring post
Karaboo replied to Grez007's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The instructions with my Progressive kit said "minimum 5.5", so I went with 5.9" from the top. With a little extra air volume at the top you get a little more cushion to the ride. Like the others said, you can do without adding CLASS air, and probably disconnect the anti-dives. -
Are they loose just where they clamp to the bar? What size are they? You may have the wrong size clamps.
