I have very small flags mounted at the very bottom of the mast to give the wind the least amount of leverage. They are about 5" long. I have only about 2,000 miles on them, but so far so good. I just pick up my oil filters off the shelf at FleetFarm. They have a good price for the Rotella oil, too. About the same as Wally World.

The bearing retainer is a Thermoset material (similar to Loctite thread locker). It will not retain its properties after it has been broken down.

I have the kit belonging to Skydoc (Earl) right now. I should be done by 4-7. You could check with him to see if there are more people waiting for the kit. If it is more than 1 or 2 people, it may be quicker to get on of the tools that Flyinfool is making. My measurements were pretty much like yours. I was able to swap around until I only need to buy 4 shims (the kit does not have all sizes). 2nd gen gaskets help with reassembly.

There was a similar rig in one of the lesser James Bond movies. One with Pierce Brosnan as Bond. They were clearing pipeline areas, until Bond showed up. Then they cut his BMW in half.

So if I go with the Sierra cable, all I lose is the intercom volume control? Will I still have intercom capability? Here is a better shot of the connectors.

I looked at the one from Sierra, but it doesn't seem to have all the connections to hook up to the stock connectors. It does have the headset plug, but I am not sure if I could patch in the other connectors.

Does anyone make a replacement for the front audio cable? Mine was intermittent when I plugged in my headset, and I made it completely shot when I tried to fix it. I looked at Pinwall, but they did not have any of the cords for 1st gens. Does anyone know another place to search?

I suggest checking the connections for the antenna.

Do you have to unhook from the tow vehicle to load?

Since the bike tipped over and started to run right, maybe the tipover switch is somehow involved. Try replacing it or bypassing it for a short test ride.

Picked up my 1990 on a 38 degree day and made the 60 mile trek home. Loved every one of the 7,000 miles this summer. Most of the miles were doing my 110 mile a day comute, but I pledge to do more off-the-clock miles next year.
