  1. Deer do really stupid things during the rut. I have seen them just stand in the middle of the road and let you drive around them at 5 mph. Unless you get out of the car and walk toward them, they don't care.
  2. You already posted pics... in May of 2014.
  3. I just switch to a mode of transportation that doesn't need roads. Nothing like travelling at 40+ mph through the woods or 70+ over the cow pastures.
  4. I got mine at a local Yamaha dealer. It is not discontinued. They used that cable on a lot of bikes.
  5. Cowpuc can tell you all about dirt roads on a 1st gen. No worries.
  6. The place you bought the AGM battery form may have charged you a "return fee". Then when you take the old one back, you get the fee back.
  7. If you end up with a larger head count you could plan on multiple smaller groups for the rides. Distance and time were good this year. Maintenance part of the gathering would still work, I think. I would add an extra day on (this year was only 2 days for me).
  8. I'll bet that other guy's air box is one sticky mess if he does what he asked you to do.
  9. I don't like the bodywork. Looks to me like something a 10 year old came up with. No flowing lines or pleasing shapes. Too many flat surfaces and creases.
  10. I would have interest in a meet and greet, except for the leaf looker's ride taking place this very weekend. It is less than an hour away (starts on route 27 from Doc's Bunkhouse north of Merrillan). I don't know where the stops are going to be on our route for Saturday, but maybe we will be close.
  11. Go grab a can of steam for the galley.
  12. I ride 110 miles a day going round trip to work, so I'm not always looking forward to riding on the weekends. I do take on some of the closer meets, but my wife doesn't ride anymore, so I don't like to take too many solo trips. We may find a way to get to more gatherings in the future.
  13. You might want to check the diaphragms before pulling the carbs. Check for pinholes and replace or patch (carefully and temporarily) as required. You may have a slider that is sticking in the bore, until you get enough oomph at higher rpm to move it into a smoother operating zone.
  14. You should get a message out to Orlin Engh for areas in SW Wisconsin. That's his specialty. None better.
  15. What is the rebound damping set at? That would affect how easy the shock moves more than how much air is in the body. The air would affect the ride height, though. I sit flat footed on mine, but the height is perfect for both the side stand and the center stand. Have you checked the linkage arms for loose or worn bushings? I don't believe your '87 would have the grease fittings from the factory, so maybe they are dry.
  16. It hurts to see a first gen sitting in bondage like that. Set it FREE! By the way... nice ride.
  17. My HJC open face lid has a slide down tinted sun shield, and a flip up clear shield (removed and never used). The tinted shield blocks enough wind at 70 (our speed limits here).
  18. I have a backrest but no mounting brackets for my MK2 (1990). I would like to try it out one day, but it seems the brackets are harder to find than the backrests. I only think I would use it if I were using the highway pegs more often.
  19. Are they rated to tow a skier? They look big enough.
  20. BBP is only 30 minutes from my house. I think I will have to run up there and get a new set of lenses in case I mess mine up when I change to LED strips inside. They also have some cool looking star washers and rubber bumpers for the trim rail mounts. It may take a whole afternoon if they got a lot of cool bike stuff to look at.
  21. I will give it a try. What type of flash unit did you use?
  22. If anyone has one of the black fairing bags they don't need, they could send it my way. Mine was one short when I found her. It throws my balance off. Getting tired of going around in circles.
  23. Yes, mine has the turn and brake/running lights (separate bulbs). I have some red LEDs to put in, sooo... How hard is it to get behind the lens? Mine are bolted to the trunk and also fastened with double back trim tape. Of course I also have to take the guard rail off the trunk to get it off. How hard will it be to get the lens off without breaking something?
