Pics as promissed
GigaWhiskey replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What's your address and when will you or anyone not be there, anywhere around that bike. There are some parts on that bike I am interested in. BTW, Nice!!! -
As some of you know, I have a pair of squids brackets and am still looking for a pair of lamps to put on them. I see that Walmart has some called Platinum Burners. Are these even worth it? They are like $15 and $20 a pair, seems kind of low for something worth buying. PIAA's are really nice but far more than I am willing to spend. I could see spending $50 for a good pair. So, are the Platinum Burners worth my time and money or would it be like putting a pair of my kids night lights on the brackets?

I am jealous! I want to ride out that way again. Only rode out there once and really had a great time. It was little tricky keeping up with the gixxer and boofa's i rode with, with that warble i had. The one with really tight and crowned twisties was great. Slinging that bike from side to side, even saw the whip antennae slap the side of the hills a few times.

Bike kicked, brackets bent - what is with people today?
GigaWhiskey replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Kinda happened to me in the past. About 15 years ago, I came outside of the apartment I was living in, found the VR laying on its side. It was on the centerstand too. I think it was pushed over by a car cause it went down perty darn hard. Fairing busted, still think the fairing frame is bent, destroyed one of the ventureline wings, bent and engine guard... Sad thing was it pissed me off so bad, that picked the bike up and then it sat for over seven years untouched and unridden in the weather. Misplaced my anger and I have paid for it trying to bring it back. There was no note and no one ever admitted to it. -
I have been looking into them. Found some on the internet but could never figure out the different kinds.

Was that feel like Charlie or like the feel of Charlie? lol, that is what I got out of the pic, lol.

A MAC may cost a few more dollars in the beginning but is far cheaper, than a PC in the long run. Stardog said he has a Power Mac G4 400 MHz, that is prolly 6 years old. And with out a hardware upgrade, still works. Not many PC's that can last that long with out a hardware upgrade and still have support from the manufacturer. An upgrade the OS 4 times. Upgrade a PC to a new OS, time to buy a new PC and/or make some heavy upgrades. Then you will start to see that the PC costs more than a MAC. But, this is not a MAC discussion. Good luck with spyware removal.

Ribbon Cable Behind Console?
GigaWhiskey replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup, will do! I hate seeing her apart for too long. Got itchy and sewed her back up. I still have to finish the battery mod and add the resistor, getting tired of the red light. Also, need to do the gas gauge fix in the tank. Still haven't decided on what to do with the bum thing. Looking at the gel pads in the seat, I just have to drum up enough nerve to cut the foam in the seat to make them fit. I got squids light brackets and still have not put them on yet. Still need to find lights that I actually like and that are 35w like I read, from posts, everyone recommend. Talk at ya later! -
Ribbon Cable Behind Console?
GigaWhiskey replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No need, thanks anyway, I put it back together already. -
Hey Y'all, I might be blind and my site searches are not working to well. I could have sworn that I saw posts on fixing a ribbon cable behind the console that gets messed up over time. I am doing the speedometer lube stuff (pulled the whole thing out and tore it down to the speedometer, I should have read the instructions better) as mine was squealing louder than the radio (iPod and Radio volume combined) this Friday (whew, was it cold that day). Since i was here already, i figured i would check it out. Can someone help me out on this? PS. JT, I am still here!

Hey all, got CCOerika liking the 2up thing. She now schedules rides and tells me in the morning unexpectedly. No cryin' here, I am all for it. Well, since this is happening more often and we are going a bit further, the bums are getting a little sore. An hour an half and it is time to get off and rub em off. I need some help on what I can do and who y'all recommend to do it. I had my seat and backrest re-covered a while back and like it and do not want to change that. The padding under it is original and has had more than it's share of weather on/in it. I had to have the covers redone because they melted and parts were staying on the pants. Help keep the bums lasting longer!

I visited some sites that have Denray Hitches and see these both listed. What is the difference, I was unable to find much on these sites. Looks like kids made them, the same info, just looks a little different. $245.00 ~~ 00069 ~~ 1200 Venture Royal 1983-84-85 [equiped Drag or Choei] $245.00 ~~ 00067 ~~ 1200 Venture Royal 1983-84-85 [Custom bumper or moto mania] Looks like four types there. Whatya got?

Temperature Switch
GigaWhiskey replied to Freebird's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Running my '85 when the temp is @ 100+ will take the temp gauge to redline after about three hours of riding (might even have to stop to let it cool). My calfs start to burn from the heat pouring out from it. A very uncomfortable ride. Done the hoses (yamaha thinks these are made of $gold$), new fan, new t-stat but not the switch. Keep the thread going, and I did thing for it to show in my email. -
Here is an idea, just put the iPod in your pocket and reach in to change songs. If I do not have my first gen shuffle hanging off the faux tank cover rack, I put it in my pocket. Sometimes I just leave it under the cassette cover and let it play what comes next. The wife puts her 3rd gen 20 gig click wheel in her pocket and reaches in to change songs. She sits on the back so she can also pull it out to look at the screen if she needs to. After a few days use, you should have it mastered with your fingers without even looking. Kewl low cost idea for mounting it on the handle bars though.

Followed that video of FM51 and it was perty kewl. Now, if you get done Kerrville way, ya gotta run the three's. One of them has Cattle Grates (not to thrilled about that) but the other 3's are perty sweet. One of them has nice high speed sweepers but the other has some really tight twisties (I like that). Lat time I was there, I led some boofa's through the tight twisties. I let them by but it shore took them a while to loose me. There were some nice tight 15mph curves back to back. You can scrape the exhaust on both side and slap that whip antennae on the side of the hill. I ran with a Gixxer that whole trip. Whole lotta fun.

Lets git it on, redneck style! Er, I am not a redneck although it is getting a bit hot here.

I shore would like to have a hitch on mine. If for just looks or a place to put the Knob Creek after buying it from the Liquor Store. Oh yea, and to trip out the crotch rockets at work.

I had no idea second gens were not linked, if I am reading what you said correctly. If i am dropping into a sweeper or a corner a little harder than comfortable, hitting the foot brake has slouched the whole bike to where it feels safe and comfortable. Then I can goose it out of the corner. If second gens are not linked, then maybe in a addition to the proportioning valve, maybe just linking them would be another solution. Hmmmmm, if that is the case, first gens win again to me!
