Ok y'all, get serious! Our 1st gens will outrun a 2nd gen without even trying but a crotch rocket is a whole different story. I have run with boofa's and a gixxer. We all can play in the twisties, although we are leaning and pulling really hard compared to them but in the straight away, beyond 70-80mph, we are all dog meat! From a rolling start, I have held with a '97 Gixxer 750 until about 70 (on the back wheel from about 30-50mph). Boofa's in the twisties on the tight 3 in Kerrville, still all over my backside. Each of those were honorable runs and surprised them with what that old bike can actually do. My bro, on the '97 Gixxer, could not believe I held so well and even had her on the back wheel for a bit. There was some smoke off the back tire when we hit it. So, don't lose the pride we have in our rides. I never will! But the sunshine is boring when it gets stretched too far.

Changing the rings down there is not a big deal, it is getting to it that is plenty of work - Like removing the carbs.

You may want to look at some of the toys at this site. I have never used it but I feel that I got this link off of this site and kept it for future reference. http://www.cellset.com/Motorcycleitems.html

I see some green in there I think. Wonder if you are getting some antifreeze in there. What is weird is I see purple in there, what would be purple to get in there?

Whats up with this gap?
GigaWhiskey replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have had the fairings off a few times. Wonder if I did not place them back correctly. Looking forward to the package! To me, that gap makes the bike look bad and I am continually trying to make the bike look good. I have had her since 94 and want to keep her around and looking good for much longer, even if I do end up picking up another bike for myself. Still looking for a bike for the ole lady. Trying to be cheap about it but would like a project for myself. -
Whats up with this gap?
GigaWhiskey replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yea JT, they are not there, they have been broken a ong time and I have been in there many times since then, even had the fairing off to fix some tabs. I hope I do not have some sort of frame issue. Can the upper fairings/frames push forward somehow? -
Whats up with this gap?
GigaWhiskey replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The top pins on both covers are broken and yes the gap increases with out the pins. I do not have the pins, never knew where they went to fix them. When I do lift the covers, it takes quite a bit of pressure to get them up there. So, i feel that the force pulling it away is what was strong enough to snap the pins. i am afraid if I just come up with a fix to replace the pins, they will break again before long because there is quite a bit of force there. -
I have had this gap for a while and do not know the whole cause of it. This gap is on both sides but this side is larger. The top pins have broken off on both side covers an I feel that what ever is causing the gap has something to do with it. The other pic (3068) is me lifting on the side cover, most of the gap disappears. What do y'all think?

We have a WADDLE
GigaWhiskey replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Could it be a particular model Avon? I have read a few posts concerning this but do not recall what model or sizes they were. Everyone just says Avon. It would be interesting if some type of compilation can be put together to come up with some kind of factor. Bike model/year, Avon model and size, tire pressures, weights of rider(s) and baggage with location, trunk/saddlebag type, spoiler option added and type, suspension mods (progressives), spacer used and size in the front (for the progressives), bike mods (solid engine mounts) and so on. Maybe we can find a common denominator or few solutions to resolve this long standing issue. -

After all that I have read, it is these tires and the 1st gen. They mist not be compatible in some way, shape or form. It must have something to with how they are placed on the road, weight, stickiness and how they are put together and all. it seems to be a waste of money on what would normally be a great tire. Something i would not put on a venture but put on other applications. -

This was interesting to read. Could this be a difference in the tire construction on Avons versus other tires? Does this mean that the additional weight (100+ lbs) centered more towards the rear tire changes the geometry of the tire enough to handle better at speed? Are these tires rated for more or less weight than other tires to give this waddle effect? We do not ride crotch rockets. Most of their weight is at the front wheel where we are not. I have no idea and figured I would drop my thoughts for y'all to ponder. -

GigaWhiskey replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You sure the waddle you are speaking of is not a warble, lol. Wonder if you have the other issue that is not steering related but frame related and the stickyness of the Avons bring it out. My warble kinda felt like it came from the rear and not from the steering head. Added the six solid engine mounts to clean it up. Or, you have some worn bushings in the rear that the Avons bring out. Without feeling it for myself, that is my idea. -
