petcock assembly leaking
GigaWhiskey replied to hipshot's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have no idea but wonder if there was gunk down there that was sealing it and it cleaned it up. Now it leaks and it took all this time for it to rear its head. Just a thought. -
...for the console that I can buy that is in one piece? I have never had one and the console I got has one that is broken. It would be nice to see that button covered.

I know it gets dark in Texas but OMG, those things are huge! People will not see a bike coming at night, just something that resembles a UFO.

I haven't had a virus in about 10 years. The last time I had a virus was when it renamed the norton directory and collapsed the application (Windows PC). I got rid of norton shortly after. I use McAfee now, it is free to me, on any Windows PC I use. One major tip in not getting so much spam is to not enter your full email address where a web spider can pick it up and add it to a list. I may only see one spam email about once every 4 or 5 months. Naturally, the other tip is to switch to a MAC.

28 mpg is not normal for this bike, you should be getting around 40mpg. You could need a carb sync and you might have some vacuum leaks around the carbs. It is possible that you need new diaphrams. Those can easily be checked for pinholes. The low speed wobble could be related to a cupped front tire or you are getting fork flex that a superbrace or condorbrace could resolve. Check the tire for low pressure and cupping first. It is possible that the head bearing need to be retightened. The engine oil type should not be energy conserving. This labeling can be found on the back of the bottle. Do a search on this site for Rotella. On those threads you will see what people choose to use and why. Changing the oil might resolve the engine noise but it could also be the clutch slightly engaging. Could also need some work on the clutch basket parts. References to your bike are 1st Gen and MKII. MKI's are the 83-85 models. Just so you know. Keep searching this site for questions to be answered and do not be afraid to ask any questions. This is not just a motorcycle site, it is a family. Attend a Meet and Eat (M&E) and/or Rally in your area and get to know some of the other members around where you live. Generally, we are all willing to help in ways you cannot imagine! First Gen Vents/louvres

http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_select.asp Enter your year/make/model, select go, and then select FAIRING from the drop-down menu. You may find them in that fiche. You might try and add some type of grease that will not damage the plastic to some of the moving pieces. That might hold the old ones open. -
... and need some ideas on what I could do. I believe the console is from an MKII and the Venture Cruise light is in the tach on my installed console. Why would I want to change tachs? Well, my installed speedo is irrepairable and need to replace it with the one I got from Poledar. The guage colors are different between both consoles (Poledars looks better too). So to match the guages, I would need to replace all the guages. Now since the Venture Cruise light location will need to be moved, will I need to add that center console (between the handlebars)? Will the current wiring on my 85 work with the center console? I do not even know what is on the center console as lights. So, what can I do y'all? Btw, Poledar is a great person to work with. Gotta give him some kuddos as he has been great with me. Thanks,

'85s have the side vents too. Thought I would drop this in so you have an extra year to choose from if you go that route. -

you should be able to still get them at flatout. If they are old, the flaps will close on thier own. If their new, they will be a little on the tight side so they will stay open if you want them to. -
Found the thread here now. I will make sure and let Ruck know they are coming, lol. Per the date of this post, he may see them next week.

GigaWhiskey replied to JayLaveroni's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Then you can finish the mod by adding an Odyssey PC680 battery and those nice 4 gauge cables. -
Color-rite only had one of my colors but not the other.

Where you get 4 pages? This is the 4th post on the second page on my screen. You must have a small, um er, computer. Yea computer.

Wiping the plastic with some acetone helps make the plastic sticky. Mashing a piece of fiberglass cloth between two layers of that stuff works great too. And, a dremel tool is great for making the holes, edging and doing the cleanup.

Know the feeling. I have to put myself on restriction from the bike when I get that way. -
That's a nice form Bill, didn't even know it was there. A form for us older folk to understand and the phone for them youngin's. So, we got all age groups covered.

I have had ICE contacts in my cell phone for about 2 years now. It is numbered one through six - most important naturally at number one. It is surprising how many people do not know what ICE is other than hard water. Hope the right people do though, they should.
