How about getting her a para-scope? Just duct tape it right to the helmet... How about a hack? Now that would solve all your problems. Bill

There was a crotch rocket? And ya, that would be funny as hell!

What do ya think? Do ya suppose this would help get a cager's attention? I already build custom sequential LED turn signals for the rear that some of you have seen. I'm now finally getting around to putting LEDs up front. I thought maybe this would be even more noticeable. Has anybody else tried one of these? http://www.customled.com/products/flasher_relay/clrelaypro.wmv http://www.customled.com/products/flasher_relay/flasher_relay.htm#LayoutRegion2LYR Thanks, Bill

Very serious thread "What can we make this do on a Venture"
a1bummer replied to dingy's topic in Watering Hole
Come on you guys! Don't you know anything? That's for the power windows. But where does it go? I can't find it anywhere in my schematics! Bill -

Vent resistance?
a1bummer replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I put a small dab of CA glue on the wholes that the vanes snap into. If you put just the right amount on, that's all you need to do. If you get a bit to much, ream the correct size drill bit. If you use a tooth pick to put the glue on, it helps too. Bill -
looking for easy headlight upgrade
a1bummer replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well I got it all taken care of yesterday with some daylight left. I did the RLU by-pass per Flyinfool's write-up and jumped the headlight reed switch. I had already done the brake and turn signal reed switches some time ago. Now the high & low beams work as they should. At the time I though only the "L2" reed switch was all I needed to jump. So when I turned on the high-beam, the white "headlight" dummy light would come on and no blue "High-beam" light. Not knowing any better I just switched the two bulbs around and it looks as it should. I later found in another recent thread that the "L1" reed switch should also have been jumped. Apparently its for the low-beam. I thought maybe it was for the side stand or the low fuel light. I'll have to jump the L1 the next time I have things apart. So if I have it right: L1 = Low-beam..............Not jumped in the pic, but should've been L2 = High-beam..............Red jumper in the pic L3 = Brake/Tail lights.......Green jumper in the pic L4 = Turn signals.............Black jumper in the pic If I have this wrong, PLEASE, somebody let me know. Later towards dark, I called in my take-out order General Tso's Chicken to the China Buffet about 15 miles down the road so I had a good excuse to see how the new HID light worked. Talk about seeing things in a whole new light! It was like going from a CRT TV with an analog signal to a HD LCD TV with a digital signal. On the down side however, my running lights now look dim and yellow... Bill -
clutch handle loose
a1bummer replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup I had the same issue when I got my 84. I found four things that needed tending to. First was a dent worn into the clutch handle by the button on the clutch switch. I built it up with some Alumaloy and filed off the rough spots and took care of that. Second, the brass bushing was very worn. I built that up with Alumaloy as well. It's been holding up quite well ever since. Third, the clutch switch didn't stay in place as securely as I thought it should and it wiggled to much. So I simply drilled and tapped a hole in the holder and installed a set-screw. Now it doesn't wiggle and is held firmly in place. Pic is a bit fuzzy though. Fourth, the handle didn't fit in the holder as tightly as I liked, so I made a couple shims out of an aluminum can and slipped them in to take up the slack. FYI, make sure you put the clutch push-rod put back in the right direction. When I got my bike the clutch would slip when in high gear. Then I found the push-rod put in backwards by the PO. It allowed just enough pressure to be excerted on the clutch to let it slip a bit. After flipping it around, it didn't slip nearly as much. Apparently I got to it to late. New disks and Barnett clutch springs, and good as gold. Almost 40,000 miles later and no problems since. Hope some of this helps, Bill -

I assume RLU = Reserve Lighting Unit? No I didn't. I didn't know it was going to be an issue. But I found Flyinfools write-up on it and am heading out to do it now. Thanks for the heads up! Bill http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45603&page=2 -
looking for easy headlight upgrade
a1bummer replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So I noticed that when I switch my Bi-Xenon-HID light from low-beam to high-beam it works as it should, but when I switch back to low-beam, it stays in high. If I have the switch set to low when I start the bike, it will switch to high as it is supposed to. But then it's wont switch back to low, unless I turn the ignition key to the off position. Bad relay? Any ideas where I should start troubleshooting? Thanks, Bill -
Anybody else here have Restless Leg Syndrome? What do you take for it or what do you do to help cope with it? I've been on Tramadol for quite some time and it worked well for me. It as also very cheap. But now it has been giving me migranes. So now I either deal with migranes, or I don't get any sleep. Thanks, Bill

Ya, I would also like to know what a "complete" tool kit consists of. Thanks Bill

Looking for oil leak solution.
a1bummer replied to wags8440's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Looks similar to the boneheaded thing I did some years back. Only my engine had fallen off a trailer and bent that area bad enough it cracked. I had it welded up and had a small annoying leak after that. So I put on one of the spin on adapter with a larger diameter o-ring the others mention and have had no problems since. Here are some of pics. Just make sure the guy knows what he's doing, otherwise the oil will leak right through the weld. Hope this helps Bill- 21 replies

Finally got my HID in a couple days ago. Just got it installed a bit ago. Not dark out yet, but with the garage doors closed and the lights off, I can already see a huge difference. Now I just have to wait till dark so I can see how much of a diff there is on the road. Here are some before and after pics of the difference in light output. The first two are the OEM bulb on low/high, the 3rd & 4th are the Bi-xenon on low/high. The last three are of the bulb itself. Bill -

Looks like it could be a comfy ride. Engine sounds a tad small however. But I like it as well. Bill

antenna bracket
a1bummer replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Looking at some eBay pics of trunk mounts, I see MKI's have only one antenna bracket. I put a MKII trunk and mount on my 84 last year and it will accept antenna mounts on either side. I just hopped out of my tent and took a look and the antenna bracket will fit either side. I had assumed all MKII's were the same. But after looking at the eBay pics, it looks as though that may not be so. Cold it be that only the MKII's equipped with CB's had mounts on both sides? By the way, there are both a 90 & an 85 antenna bracket on eBay right now. I'm jumping on the 90 as I plan on adding a CB at some time in the future. Here's the 85 http://www.ebay.com/itm/85-Yamaha-Venture-Royale-XVZ1200-ANTENNA-BRACKET-/130641632047?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e6ad91b2f&vxp=mtr Bill -
Class acting up
a1bummer replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ty guys, I'll try the controller connections and reflow the solder jounts first. Then move on from there if I need to go any further. Bill -
Definitely! I've seen that as well. Once I seen so many air bubbles in a weld that it leaked oil right through it. And as Condor stated, replacing would be the best choice.

Class acting up
a1bummer replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well I swapped out the compressor and everything else under the cover with the one off my 83 parts bike. Cleaned it up good and replaced the decadent. Still does the same thing, only I've noticed more symptoms if ya will. If I leave it on the center stand for some time, like over the winter, it wont air down. The CLASS says the pressure is going down and it even makes a hiss as though air is being released, but it doesn't go down far. The opposite is true if I leave it on low for a a period. CLASS shows pressure is rising and the pump runs for a short time, but the suspension stays put. But if I put it on the center stand, and rock it off while the hit the button on the CLASS, it works as it should. Are there any valves or anything that might be sticking somewhere other than in the pump are? Still no error codes as of yet either. Thanks, Bill -
You can have it welded if you have somebody with the proper equipment near by. Bill

Road wagon hey? I tried doing some searching and can't find them. Not that I want one, for many of the reasons stated, but I'm curious about the specs. I just can't help myself i guess. Bill
