  1. I had ask others about this possible problem a while back in here before. Yesterday after class here at the CVTC, (Chippewa Valley Technical Institute), in Eau Claire, WI., there was a parking ticket on my bike both for it not being a MC parking space and that I was parked in a disabled parking space. I do Have a disabled parking permit. And I do have a legitimate and very well documented disability. For some reason though, even after 2.5 years of having these problems, my doctor will only give me a temporary disabled parking permit. After my last post on this subject, I did find out that WI. does have disabled plates for motorcycles, but only for permanent disabilities. So that mean that until my doctor gives me permanent disabled status, I have nothing I can legally display on my bike to show I have a problem. Anyhow the jerks down at the parking enforcement, even though they have seen the proof that I have documented disability, refuse to void out this ticket. Depending on how a person interprets the paperwork I got with the parking permit, it can be a little confusing. They way I read it is that the permit is not valid on a mc so therefore I needn't display it on my mc. The guy behind the counter at the DMV agreed and told me to carry my paperwork if there was ever any question. The jackass here at the CVTC parking enforcement interprets it that motorcycles are not permitted to park in the disabled parking spaces period! She called someone at the DOT, and the woman on the other end agreed with her. She also stated that only a mc with disabled plates are permitted to park there. Therefore this would mean that if I have a temporary disability and a motorcycle, I don't have the right to park there. But on the other hand if it's a permanent disability and I have a bike with disabled plates only, then I have a right the right to park there. But still even with all that, I still can't park in one of there car parking spaces with my bike. Does this sound like some discrimination going on or what? Should I start looking for a lawyer? Any input on this matter will be greatly appreciated. P.S. I rode my bike to school again today, so I expect to find more tickets on my bike again. If this is the way it is gonna have to be, I will not be able to get to my classes anymore.
  2. I picked up an old 78 Honda CB400 TII Hawk that was in really good condition for a friend of mine that has never ridden before. After I got my VR he went out and got his MC lisence so he could ride too. There is no way I am gonna let a greenhorn ride my VR, so I've been keeping an eye out for a good first bike for him to get used to before getting a real bike. Anyhow, I got this CB400 from a classmate for free. He said it would still start but ran like crap. He had it for a lot of year and could never let it just go to the boneyard. Ya, it would start, but only would run on the 2nd cylinder. I pulled the plugs and the first thing I saw was splitfire plugs:bang head:. First thought was a hole burnt in the piston. Stuck my thumb over the plug hole and started it up. No compression! Got a flashlight out and turned the piston to TDC. The hole is about an inch or so big. I've seen way to many vehicles come into my shop that had some sort of severe problems due to some fancy type of sparkplugs. Now that I've made this short story really long, anybody know where to get old Honda parts at a reasonable price:confused24:?
  3. I was just kidding. I don't trust anybody else getting that intimate with my :bowdown:VR
  4. It's just a little solar powered, phototropic, photopopper. Phototropic is a fancy way of saying it seeks out light. And it gets the term photopopper from the fact that when it build up enough energy in it's capacitor, it fires one of the motors. The infrared detecting eyes steer it towards the brightest light source and the feelers detect objects in its way so it will steer itself around them. I built it from scratch as part of a project on photovoltaics in my Nanoscience Technology class.
  5. Isn't that what the old lady is for? Or is that just me?
  6. I have finally created life. Well sort of... maybe.
  7. I had one of my pins break off as well. It didn't cause a gap though. I used Plastex to repair it. Man i love that stuff! I've used it to fix any stress cracks I find and it works just like they claim. I learned about this stuff here. Here's the link http://plastex.home.att.net/
  8. I don't know if this will help, but... I had a problem with what I thought was an oil leak too. It kept making a mess on the left side of the bike. I would clean it up and then take it for a spin. for the life of me, I couldn't figure out where the oil leak was coming from. Then my Rear brake reservoir got low a couple times before I made the connection, ( sometimes I'm a bit slow). My metering block was leaking. I changed it out and no more messes.
  9. That stuff did cross my mind after my last post while sitting in class. After I get some homework done here, I was planning on starting it up and shooting some starting fluid at whatever might be leaking. On another note. Is there a screen in the fuel tank over the petcock like all the others I've seen? It's kind of hard to tell from the picture I can find.
  10. No plugged jets, no holes in the diaphragms, no clogged fuel filter, fuel pump pumps. time to check the petcock and fuel tank. Could it be that simple? I sure hope so.
  11. Diaphragms are all in great condition.
  12. I figured I might be stating the obvious.
  13. How does an first gen act when there is a hole in the carb diaphragms? Would that cause it to run lean?
  14. Thanx, I'll check it out.
  15. The other day my bike started running like it's not running on all four. If I put the choke on all the way it starts to run better but still not like it should. I changed the fuel filter and swapped the fuel pump with a spare. No change. I also noticed the charging system is not quite up to snuff. It's putting out just under 13 volts at 2000rpm (checked at the battery) instead of the required 14-15 it should be putting out. I know that if these bikes don't have a good battery they don't want to run right. But I would think 12.8 volts would be sufficient. I would also think that if it was the charging system causing the problem that choking it would make no difference. Except for flooding it maybe. All that being what it is. I will put in a spare rectifier & or spare stator this weekend to hopefully solve the charging problem. I don't think that will solve the lean situation however, (only makes since). What else could cause the lean burn? It wasn't the filter or pump. If my assumptions are incorrect or if I'm missing something obvious, please point it out. What do these bikes act like when there are holes in the carb diaphragms? Thanks to everyone in advance. With these gas prices at $3.45, I NEED my bike.
  16. Wish I could make it. But like my Dad always told me, "Wish in one hand, s**t in the other, see which one fills up first."
  17. Ya, this really bite! I've been out of work since October of 06 because I wrecked me knees at work. The workman's comp insurance company isn't taking care of their obligations. So my better half has had to put in alot of overtime to keep the bills paid. The prices of everything has gone up on everything and she can't get much, (if any) overtime these days, so we'll be lucky to not get evicted and have our utilities cut off this summer. Luckily I'm getting some help from the DVR for vocational retraining. We don't know how much longer we can last waiting for the insurance company to take care of their responsibilities. Lawyer says it could be a year just to get a court date. I've been working on disability for over a year and that lawyer says it could take another 2 to get my day in court for that. Meanwhile with all the overtime my other half was putting in has made us ineligible for any kind of help from anybody else. Anybody have any ideas?
  18. Thanks for all the input guys. I find it easier to ride then get in and out of a car, so I ride whenever I can. We're supposed to get some crappy snow and rain mixed today so I'll be stuck in the cage. Luckily for me some of the places I frequent have made a note of my situation, as well as the parking enforcement, so that helps with the little frustrations. If there is an empty space close to the building, I'll take advantage of it and leave the HC spaces to the people who need it more than I do. Sometimes I park in the lined area at the end of the parking spots, but that make me a bit nervous. That's not a parking space.
  19. Holey Cow!
  20. Ebay was absolutely no help at all when I got the shaft. Maybe their doing something about the "buyer beware" attutude that alot of us ebayer's have gotten. Glad to hear your happy in the end. Now I hope this guy gets what he has coming.
  21. Anybody else besides myself have problems with people when parking their bikes in disabled parking spaces? In this neck of the woods we can get plates and cards for our cars but not our bikes. The guy behind the counter at the DMV told me that I didn't need to display anything on my bike but I needed to carry the paperwork in case an officer asks for it. That's good enough for me. But I sure do get some dirty looks and I don't enjoy having to track down the guy who writes me ticket when I'm not around to defend myself. So far I've been lucky and haven't had to go to court to prove I have the right to park there. It would save me some headaches if there were disabled plates for a cycle.
  22. I've had that problem before. I thought I took care of that. You can also email me at a1bummer@yahoo.com and let me know which one ya need and an address I can mail it to. I just unchecked a couple boxes. Try the PM thing again. We'll see if I fixed it THIS time.
  23. I have some Intercom/Radio volume knobs you can have.
  24. I've seen similar problems like that in cars. That was after ya step on the brakes though. The flexible brake hoses would get old and deteriorate on the insides. They would ack like check valves and only let fluid move in only one direction. I wouldn't think this is your problem though. i would agree with the brake pedal adjustment idea. Now that I think about it more a bad brake hose would either cause one wheel to lock up and not release and the other work fine, or one brake not work at all and the other caliper would get all the fluid and cause it to lock up quickly but still release when you let up the lever. That's haw it works on a car anyway.
