Any of you Goldwing riders know of a good Goldwing forum I can direct my brother towards? He just bought our Dad's 85 GL1200 Limited Edition from him. Apparently our Dad doesn't fell he can ride it after he got his left leg amputated last fall. Maybe he's just looking for a 1st. Gen. in stead.

I wonder if it's as bad as the beef stew I forgot in mine for a month or so. Apparently it swelled up enough to pop the lid off the container. I washed it out and used some deodorizer, but I still can't get rid of the stink. Especially on the warm and sunny days.

How about just taking the lid off the trunk? And add some cushion for comfort and harness for his saftey? When I was a kid, my dog alway rode with me on my bicycle in a crate that I strapped to my handlebars.

Checked it out. Beautiful 1.88 acre lot. A one car attatched garage and another 1.5 car garage that needs siding. New shingles on both. The house needs some TLC. Gotta redo the kitchen. Not a very user friendly setup, and outdated. Need to replace some facia. The floor in the living room needs to be leveled. It settled after 88 years. And the attic needs to be sealed up and insulated better, then could make another nice bedroom. I think it has potential. For the price, and what It would be worth after some work, I think it could be a good deal. Luckily I have had experience with this kind of stuff and can do the work myself and have plenty of friends with the same experience. I hope they can be bought off with brats, burgers, and beer. Oh ya. I'll check out the banker thing also. Thanks for the tip. No HOA in the area either.

I'm such an idiot! This spring I started hearing a really horrible noise that sounded like metal scraping metal then changed to sounding like a knock. I thought I spun a bearing. So I pull the engine so I caould put in the engine out of the other VR I picked up for parts after I got hit last Halloween. While I had the engine out of the other bike I decided to take it to the car wash and clean it up before I instal it. On my way home I looked in my rear view mirror and saw that one of my straps had come undone. Before I could come to a complete stop it fell off the trailer. Luckily I was only going 5 mph or so. But it was enough to destroy both valve covers, the stator cover, a couple camshaft caps, and the bottom of the crankcase where the oil filter mounts. :bawling:Got the crankcase welded up and replace all the broken stuff with parts from the old engine. Finally got a friend to come over and help me get the engine in. She started right up and run great. For about half a tank anyway. Then I start hearing that noise again. Like I had spun a bearing. Either I have the worst luck and the new engine is crap too, or there is something else causing the noise. Just to rule out one possibility, I yanked off the eahaust collector, cut it open, gutted it out, stitched it back up and threw it back on. Low and behold the noise went away! I wonder where it went. Long story short... I'm such an idiot. With guys like me around, the rest of you look that much smarter!

What gear am I in again?
a1bummer posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What should I check if the gear indicator on my 84 isn't working properly? Neutral light works when in neutral, Says 5th. when in 5ith., Says 4th. when in 1st., neutral, 2nd., 3rd., and 4th. I popped out the sending unit and it appeared to look alright. I can live with it not working properly. It just annoys me. If it's gonna be there it should work properly I figure. -
Thanx for the heads up. I like to think, live and let live myself. If it isn't causing an environmental or health hazard, whose business should it be anyway? But then on the other hand, I wouldn't want my neighbors mess to bring down the value of my own property.

Trying to get out of the whole rental situations and become an owner. Going to go take a look at a house this evening. :banana:I'm so sick of landlords who think they can control every aspect of your being just because it's they own the joint. My current landlords were pretty good till this spring. All kinds of new strange rules. He showed up on my doorstep a few weeks ago saying the neighbors were complaining about junk vehicles. I told him I don't have any. He pointed out my old Ford and said it has been sitting in the same spot since last fall and such. Then he said I wasn't allowed to have any incapacitated or unregistered vehicles in the yard. All vehicles are supposed to be parked in the garage. My garage is not to be used for storage. (Wouldn't keeping your care in the garage when not in use be considered storing it?) I told him it had current tabs and wasn't incapacitated. He started getting an attitude, then I told him to leave. I got a copy of my lease in the mail about a week later with all the rules he thought I was breaking highlighted. :bawling:Not a one of them was I actually breaking except for my truck being parked outside. I don't know what he expects if the truck is to tall to fit through the dang garage door. Now why would a landlord care if you car is parked outside? Why would he care what you keep in your garage? Why would a landlord think it's cool to limit tenants to only two vehicles when it's a 3 or 4 bedroom unit when both parents and the kid all work different shifts? I'll quit my complaining now. I hope this is a place I and my better half can both agree on. I don't mind having to to some work on the place. I'm handy that way. Besides, when is it you find something that's exactly the way you want it anyway? Wish me ?

I haven't tried that yet. It doesn't always make the noise. I think that if it was a bearing or something, it would always make the noise. Is there something else I should look at before taking off my exhaust collector to cut her open? I swapped in a spare engine a few weeks ago because I thought there was some terribly wrong. With the new engine, I hear it again. Either I have really crappy luck, or it wasn't the engine.

Ya, it looks like they are real similar to the tensioner used in the Mitsubishi engines in the old Mazda pickups. I've just been trying to figure out what has been making the annoying noise somewhere on my bike. At first I thought maybe I spun a bearing. But I think I would hear the noise all the time and would have oil pressure problems. What would a loose baffle inside the exhaust sound like?

I have some I'll swap with ya.

Does the timing chain tensioner on the 83-93 VR's ever need adjusting? I would assume it does it automaticly. If it dosen't do it on its own, how do you know if it needs to be adjusted? Would it make any noise or just run different? There isn't a lot of info in the manuals.

I got some weird looks the day I hauled another bike and a C6 trany to the boneyard behind my VR.

Last time I filled, I got just over 39 mpg. That was super unleaded with about 1oz. Sea Foam per gallon. 1 up, 2 up, a little highway, with and w/out trailer, mostly around town grocery shopping and back-road stuff.

That's what I thought. I couldn't find any pics of them on the net. I kept seeing it advertised on the V-Star. Maybe something like that would keep the road rash off my exhaust?

I've been thinking of doing simular to the extra VR I have in the back yard. Maybe not a V6, but something on the order of a 4 cylinder, diesel out of a VW Rabbit or simular. Might not be fast, but it should get great mileage. I had one of those in the mid 80's that got around 40 mpg. Without the heavy cage surrounding it, it should get even better mileage.

Ya, some of those thoughts had gone through my wee little brain. I thought about throwing the recliner on the trailer behind me and the kid could toss candy at people.

What are floorboard feelers?

I think a bunch of us should all get together on the fourth of July and do some advertising for the group and the website, and ride in the parade in Chetek, WI. I'm gonna check and see if there is going to be a bike show again this year too. I got best in show last year.
